Awesome! I’ve been thinking about getting some longbow limbs for mine. Heard they are super smooth! If I do, I might stain some copperheads grey or black and put them on there!
@@gremlinoutdoors4110 The longbow limbs are smooth especially with draw lengths up to 29”. Those canebrake rattle snake skins are really nice with the fade to dark at the tips.
Definitely get you a new string! Big Jim’s Bow Company has a good string, TTT strings are good is what I’ve heard, and SBD strings are great. I just made a laminated bow and I use a SBD on it. Super quiet! You’ll need a 57” for 60” bow or 55” for 58” bow. In other words string should be 3” shorter than bow length. Some people do 4” shorter for recurves but 3” will work just fine!
Looks Great. I've camouflage painted, upgraded string, wilson grip wrapped, and wool puff silenced mine. I really like the recurve and may grab a longbow next.
I’ve always shot my dad’s custom bows and this one shoots right there with them with the new string. You’ll have fun with the bow. I’ll do a how to on putting snakeskins on and wrap on!
Nicely done. I have the same, but it is a longbow. If you buy it from Mandarin Duck (the original makers of the black hunter) it came without the white-painted name on the riser and with the nice Mandarin Duck logo on the lower limb.
Sorry for the late response! I used MinWax Spar Urethane on that and put a Matte finish of that to dull the shine. I’ve also done Tru Oil on self bows and it works well. More of a shine too though. Might try it with a matte finish on top next time!
Mine was from BigJimsBowCompany. I’ve heard great things about Silent But Deadly(SBD) and TTT Strings. I got a 57” for my 60” bow. Might could get a 56” for a few feet per second faster.
If you had put silencers on that stock string it would have been quieter and adjusted the brace height. Personally, that new string doesn’t sound that much quieter-still very loud in my book. Cool job on the snakeskins and grip. What grain weight are your arrows? I’ve owned and shot Black Hunters for over a decade. Yes, they are a great bow for the money. And I upgrade my strings too because the factory one has too many strands(16) for my lower poundage bows. Prefer 10-12 strands and I stay with Dacron b50/55 for a softer feel and quiet. Say, what’s up with so many twists in your string?
I know about the two colors but your string has excessive twists in it. Probably because it was too long would be my guess. Those twists should be farther apart like one twist per inch, not the 2-3 twists per inch your string has. @@gremlinoutdoors4110
No you don’t understand, it has too many twists per inch. Just because someone says it’s a 57” string but how many twists does it have to make 57”. Example, 2 different 57” strings with one having one twist per inch and the other like yours having closest 3 twists per inch. The string with one twist per inch will contain less material than the string with 3 twist per inch, which means more mass therefore slower speed. Oh well, just some of the things one learns over 60+ years of shooting trad bows. And I do own quite a few Black Hunters, but all have longbows limbs which I prefer for quietness and stability.@@gremlinoutdoors4110
Sounds good, thanks for the explanation! I was just trying to understand! I’ve just got the recurve limbs. Have you ever tried interchanging recurve and longbow limbs with the same riser? If so I’ll definitely have to order some longbow limbs to try out!
I have that bow too. The one you have looks really good, great job 👍
Thanks man! They’re sweet shooters!
Yes folks!
I have found myself building yew self bows.
Come check em out
That’s pretty cool, I did mines a few years back in 4k 3m vinyl wrap
Great job! Giving me ideas for my BH longbow.
Very nice work on the upgrades to your Black Hunter. They are great bows! I have the longbow version and am inspired to add some skins.

Thank you! I had been getting them from roadkill and drying their skins. Don’t like them to go to waste! These two happened to be almost identical.
Most bows come with crappy string but for the most part the bow itself is pretty awesome.
Very nice work I just ordered one yesterday can't wait to get it now

Great job on that black hunter recurve young man.
Thank you!
Fancy, looks like high-end bow now well done.

Just bought a black hunter and I love it with an upgraded string. Would love a how to on the snakeskin and grip wrap

Prepping SNAKESKINS for BOW BACKING

Dead quite great job & only $100 to buy from Amazon

Nice!
I put piece bike inner tube on grip of mine ,
New sub like your content
Thanks man!
Nice! Can You explain more in detail hoe tonmake the grip?
I bought the leather from Big Jim’s Bow Company and then put it on myself. I have a video with a little more detail on how to do it!
How did you get that rattlesnake hide to keep so much of its natural color after being tanned? Mine always looked faded and yellow
For bow backing, you just air dry the skins. Tanning introduces oils to the skins making them not stick when you try to glue them down.
With the snake skin, did you remove the scales and just have the skin itself on the bow?
You need to remove scales. You can leave them but they will be falling off everywhere
@@gremlinoutdoors4110 thanks wasn't sure. What did you finish it with?

May I know what string are you recommending for this Black Hunter bow and what size is it? Thanks.

I may try I it a B55 and see how it does, thanks for the input!
It’s just different color strands in the string is why it looks that way

It’s got 5 different colors; black, tan, brown, white, and grey. That’s why it looks that way. It’s a 57” string for the 60” bow

Pine goats and thunder chickens beware...and innocent bystander frogs!
Are y’all in the mountains? I live in the mountains of NC.
We are in Alabama, not mountains just blessed with a great view!
What kind of grip do you have one there for the handle and were do I get one
Black shark skin grip. You can get them from Big Jim’s Bow Company. He has shark, ostrich leg, buffalo, beaver, and sometimes alligator.
@@gremlinoutdoors4110 okay sounds good thanks
Please make the video
I have a video on how to apply snake skins and how to add a grip. Is that what you’re looking for?
Transformation? what transformation? you did nothing!
You're a shitty observer he made that bow look more bad ass than before
