  • Hello everyone today I have made a video of me replacing a antifreeze/coolant in my Peugeot 407 2.0HDi with 6 speed manual gearbox. I hope some of you will find this video use full. Looking forward to your comments especially on a suggestion if you have managed to access and remove a cylinder block drain plug, as I have found it to be extremely difficult. In this video I have used 50/50 coolant concentrate/deionised water. you should read your coolant concentrate back label to see what mixture is required for you there you live according to what temperatures you get in a winter. Please ensure your video setting is set to max as a video is filmed in full HD.

    As you said, be careful not to lose the little screw cap of the heater hose/thermostat housing. I did exactly that, while being alone. The quickest solution in order not to lose the whole amount of coolant is to screw on the plastic caps from the tires. Actually, I have seen cars fitted with them driving for years.

    I'll save this job for the spring time, as I mentioned before, living in the wildlands on the Anglo-Scottish borders I don't want to risk messing with the coolant in the winter, esp since the bottom hose clip looks as rusty as yours !.
    The coolant in my 407 looks like river water but it has survived -7°c nights so hopefully it will be ok until the warmer weather and I'll fire it out, following this routine.

    Those two bottom radiator hose clips on mine are severely corroded too. I think everyone should replace those, it's a potential failure at some point! However I would advise to use the spring clips as OEM rather than worm drive hose clamps. Those clamps don't auto-adjust to heat/cooling and natural setting of the rubber and can sometimes leak over time. Finally, often the "leak" point is the radiator cap itself, it's a pressure release valve and the seals fail over time. A few quid on ebay solves the problem.

The radiator have been changed to double cell. It has bled multiple times but it still overheats. The water boils or bubbles while I drive and flows out through the expansion tank cover even when it tight. I need help on where to look out for.

    • @Mad4FrenchCars

      I think becouse its just water and not a coolant it boils and thats why it goes out of the expansion tank. It has to be coolant premixed or coolant concentrate mixed with dionised water. I think normal water can damage this system regardless of radiator

    Hello, first of all thank you for the video, very good. My doubt, taking advantage of the replacement of the timing belt, when changing the water pump, does the engine completely empty of water? Or is it only possible to change the coolant using this procedure?

    • @Mad4FrenchCars
      @Mad4FrenchCars  2 года назад +2

      If you use method above I believe a very small amount of coolant is indeed still be left inside a system after draining. Then you change a cambelt and waterpump you can drain every drop of system. In other words then you change water pump you normally change coolant as its a best option to empty system. This method in this video drains probably 90% of coolant and water pump 100%

    I wonder if the oil temp gauge is not working properly on my car, I have a petrol V6 coupe and the oil temp barely moves on a 15km drive when the coolant has been stuck on 90 for a long time. I understand the thermostat helps a lot and the engine is quite large but still I would expect the oil to warm up quicker than the coolant? Maybe the gauge is just a bit slow because the reading is fine on a long drive

But the good aircon specialist will be able to quickly tell what's wrong with it. And prices are according to what's wrong really. If it's a pump you can get good used one for like 50£ usually.
