"She was better than a god.."
Man, Kratos really loved Faye.
Well....Kratos thinks all Gods are pieces of shit. So any decent mortal is probably better than a god in his eyes
Mike Hunt Wonder what Kratos thinks of Tyr then.. I know he hates all Gods (even himself), but Tyr is different ( So we are told)... wonder if a friendship could’ve been built if he was alive... Tyr probably is though
Kratos is a god he is the god of war if you played the original games you will know
FadedCool well technically he WAS the God Of War. I’ve played the games and in this realm (Norse Realm) would be technically be considered the God Of War?... I have no idea where I was going with this point. I believe his status of the “God Of War” isn’t really there anymore.
He still the God Of War though loool
Me: Upgrades Atreus's bow to the max and buys him the sharpshooter armor
Atreus: *Aims bow at me*
Ouch
Yeah... Now we know how parents feel when their children rebel.
So you have chosen dad talk
Let's be honest, Kratos would literally make Boi unable to sit for 500 years after a slapping session
Reminds me of what Rodney Dangerfield once said, “I got my boy a BB gun for Christmas and he got me a shirt with a target on it’s back.”
“She was BETTER than a God, and you shall NOT dishonor her.” I absolutely loved that line.

"You are too quick to temper. You are rash, insubordinate, and out of control!"
That's pretty much Kratos in the older games.
The Melon Man so true that's why it makes sense that he's trying to stop his son from following in his footsteps him through his experience that's good parenting
The Melon Man Lol exactly but at least he’s trying to make sure that doesn’t get past on to Atreus
Now that I made a timestamp and seen this comment at least I know there's someone that thought the same thing 😅. (But for some reason there is someone who's insulting me because of it)
The Melon Man--> Gave you some, too! 👍
The Melon Man
That’s the point, he sees himself and his mistakes in his son, and he is trying to make sure that it does not happen again with him.
1:27 Damn Mimir was about to sacrifice himself for the sake of Kratos and Atreus. What a true friend
Probably one of the best friends he has ever had. Maybe besides his brother but they wanted to kill each other so idk where that counts on the friend scale😂
I hated the fact Baldur kicked him, it feels like he did the worst thing that could ever be done lol
i fel bad about mimir at next games
"odin/thor smash mimir"
Yeah Mimir was probably the one on the mural who died in Atreus' hands
After the trailer, might even be tyr

Yep, that’s his son alright.

Can't help but remember brok mentioning a story too mature for atreus to listen while kratos remembers his past is the same. Killing, cursing and fucking
He wants Atreus to avoid the mistakes he made in his past. That's why he said those things.
Someone should go edit a video together.
CEDL0W agreed
Atreus: What? What you gonna do old man?
Kratos: Ask your half-sister
Tadicuslegion78 Oh you Cold blooded for that one lol
That's DARK but good at the same time.
That's fucked up 😂
Not funny bruh, he didn't want to kill there
Fucking brutal
You can tell how stunned Kratos is the when Atreus raises his bow to him, his worst fears coming to fruition in that single moment.
The circle continue..
"Face me, father. It's time to end this."
"I was a god like you once, but then i took a *boi* to the shoulder!"
Jablze family curse is following him.
Kratos fears no man but this boy it terrifies him
I love how Mimir chose to be silent during all these altercations. Goes to show he actually values their privacy and acknowledges how useless it would be if he were to butt in.
Pretty sure Baldr knocked him unconscious after the one line he spoke in the vid.

Yes, Kratos knows what his past behavior can bring about. Speaking of which, I uploaded a video titled "Like Father Like Son [God of War]", where Kratos lectures B O Y while having flashbacks of his past life.
Here is the link if interested: ruclips.net/video/Z2fOyqMrFpA/видео.html
I think he refers to the patricide cycle Athena told him about. Zeus killed Cronus, Kratos killed Zeus, so he knows he should be careful about any rebel behavior coming from Loki
Despite how tough Kratos is with Atreus you can see the regret in Kratos' eyes when atreus pushes on Kratos' wound and out of instinct Kratos shoves him away, the way he drops his voice as he wants to apologise because he didn't mean to hurt his son is very unnoticeable at first but is fantastic once you realise. It really shows how careful Kratos is with his new family and tries his hardest not to fuck things up again
"Boy....i.... I didn't mean it...."
I mean, he did kill his daughter. So definitely some PTSD for him
2:20 ohhhh I see what you mean. Nice detail
It's not just that. His son just fucking attacked him, pushed him where he knew it would hurt.
He probably saw Atreus readying his bow, and was too horrified to even react. His own son had just hurt him, and now was about to take him down with a bow.
Dude, Kratos himself is nothing else but PTSD. Doesn't matter tho, he's still a great father! Yes he killed his own wife and daughter because Ares fucking tricked him. But he has learned to make peace with that. By protecting his own life blood for real this time.
Something tells me that Kratos destroyed the bridge to Jotunheim with Baldur on purpose not
because he was just attacking him, but probably because it was the worst time for them to
spread Faye’s Ash considering that *BOI* has been disrespecting his mother and Kratos at that time.
True i thought that too
Atreus was slowly becomes his fathers young version with god complex.
I think he was definitely rethinking some of his choices.
Yep
Also pry because baldur was there maybe?
Exactly right. Had they crossed the bridge at that point in time, they would’ve crossed over with the tension they were carrying around and with Atreus’ arrogant attitude, which would have soured the only experience they would have had to get closure to their wife and mother.
It just wasn’t the right time.

Kratos: Werent you the one that slept with everything that has a hole and breathes?
I always thought Kratos destroying the bridge showed how he's a good person. He purposefully did it so Baldur and Odin couldn't find the giants, he didn't know they died yet
Plus atreus was in young kratos mood
So wuth that attidue,he would disrespect his mother
I swear I like your pfp 👁👁
He also did it because he knew he wasn’t ready to release his wife’s ashes yet. Neither was atreus
I think it was because he knew Atreus wasn’t ready to spread his Mother’s ashes yet. Mimir told us that Jotunheim is the only place that the man that cannot be killed won’t follow you to.
I agree. He did it because he knew the Giants had been running back to their realm to escape the Aesir, and he had just revealed to Baldur, and by extension Odin, a pathway to Jotunheim.
As important as spreading Faye's ashes was to him, Kratos put the needs of a struggling people ahead of his own.
I really love how they made Atreus feel like almost real and human because naturally thats how any kids would react after knowing they're big shot and the game captures that really well
yeah. I remember getting big headed after my teacher would praise me for an assignment I'd do well. I can only imagine how cocky I'd have been being told I'm a god and what not🤣
And Atreus has that past behaviour coming back to mess with him in the form of Heimdall:
-Heimdall is cocky, arrogant, egotistical and lacks compassion, believing that being a God meant doing whatever he liked with no regard for the consequences.

I love how this game represents realistic parenthood. Kids growing up and becoming irrational and egotistical is pretty normal, and having good parents who scold you after you make a mistake out of love for you and wanting you to be better. The game really shows the disappointment of Kratos that he doesn’t want Atreus to make the same mistakes he did.
We must be better
Had Atreus not seen the error of his ways, he would have been like Modi, Baldur and Heimdall.
You can see it when Atreus is trying to ask Kratos about his past and Kratos refuses to talk about it. How parents worry that if their kids know about how they acted out when they were younger. Their kids won't respect them. No parent likes being called a hypocrite

@@Mustache128 his opinion of the gods was a 20 and now its -100000
Kratos said that because he wants atreus to be much respectful to his mother
“You will Honor your mother and abandon this path you have chosen”
....”It is not too late”
Hearing his voice break a little at the last line really shows how terrified he is of thinking that the only thing he passed on to his son is his (Kratos) unstable rage and attitude towards other living beings...like he lost his soul without making a deal with a god....Kratos sees it’s his influence that is really affecting his son and how he sees himself as superior b/c of a title
Kratos didn’t see himself as superior because he was a god, nor did he lack compassion for living beings. It’s because of his love for his family that his vengeance was unleashed upon the gods. He hates Zeus for his lies about his brother and what he has done as well as how he treated mortals.
Kratos hates gods yes, he hasn’t changed since the last game in that regard and he would probably still kill Zeus...but he has control over his anger now. When he destroyed all the gods of Greece he no longer had anything to hate and so his endless anger and rage went to the only place it had left to go, upon himself.
When you hate yourself, you are crueller on your actions and self reflective. And so kratos learned from his mistakes and decided to live in exile and see out the rest of his days alone and live with the pain of his guilt and destructive nature...until he meets Faye, who taught him to love again and gave him a reason to live.
The reason Kratos fears telling Artreus the truth is that he fears he will lose him, he fears judgement from his own son. He wants him to live as a mortal, as Kratos remembers his happiest memories when he once believed himself to be mortal. He wants his son to live a life that he never had.
He didn’t lie to artreus because he was afraid he’d take the title of ‘being a god’ as being superior because that’s not what kratos did himself. He did it to try and protect him. He says it himself, as a god ‘you marked, you are a target’.
@@TheArsenalgunner28 Even if Kratos didn't mean for Atreus to become an arrogant little brat, he did basically lie about his past. He did allow Atreus to believe in something that wasn't the truth because it was easier than explaining to him what happened.
And really, Atreus only knows what happened because he saw that vision of Kratos killing Zeus. That wasn't by Kratos's own choice.
And this goes back to a bit of who Kratos was in the first games. He didn't want to deal with his grief and negative emotions so he turned to murdering the people he believed caused it all.
@@TheArsenalgunner28 Oh get real. Kratos was happily slaughtering people in the name of Ares. He only got upset when he realized the woman and child he slew were his wife and daughter. He was perfectly fine with murdering them otherwise. Also, Zeus only killed Kratos because Kratos was doing the same shit Ares was doing.
@@carlycrays2831 But didn't he deny that he didn't see anything?
@@Gamfluent His point was the commenter was trying to defend Kratos by saying "he was never like that!" but he was. Kratos used to be ruthless and absolutely did see himself as superior, why else was he okay with slaughtering hordes of people FILLED with wife and daughters? Even after his family's death, he (literally) stepped on innocent people to get ahead. He absolutely is better than that in the later games, but to deny his origins and try to say Atreus is just uniquely a brat disrespects the character development he's gone through and Kratos' own introspections. He sees godhood as a disease with rage as a side effect, which absolutely does not exclude himself.
I love how at 5:27 as Kratos starts mentioning Atreus' negative attitude the camera pans to Kratos himself. In many ways he is also unintentionally scolding his former self through his son.
He's well aware that he's seeing himself in Atreus, and that horrifies him.

"She was better than a God"
That single line has so much more weight, knowing that Kratos has watched those he loved die right before him. And the fact that he's *WEARING THE ASHES OF HIS PREVIOUS WIFE AND DAUGHTER*
Well, he hates all gods and thinks that there are no good gods because of his experiences with the Olympians, hence why he didn't want to tell Atreus that both of them are gods and why he said Atreus is "cursed", so any decent living being is better than a god to him. But yeah, he really loved her.
What I love about the dynamic between Atreus and Kratos the most throughout this game is that exactly after Atreus messes up big time, obviously Kratos is angry and disappointed, but he doesn't resent Atreus or go all 'old kratos' on him. He understands and warns Atreus of the path he's gone down, and its that sentiment that forces Atreus to reconsider his actions.
Yep. Later on, when you're on the boat, if you go near Baldur's dead dragon, Atreus apologizes and admits he screwed up badly. And Kratos replies, "You did. But... you are my son..." Joy of parenting, amirite? Your kids can be little jerks. But they're still your little jerks at the end of the day.
He has been there. Walked that same path. He knows what the bad choices lead to. So he just wants to do right by his child and teach him. Especially since he didn't have that growing up
Stern but controlled disappointment is far worse than yelling and screaming at someone.

Yeah, now that I think about it, Zeus always spoke to Kratos like an angry parent.
The thing about zeus is that at that time he was corrupted by the pandora's box fear. Also kratos during his time as a god of war in charge caused too much war and lead sparta personally to victory, Zeus was right stopping him, but maybe if he wasnt corrupted the way of making stop kratoa would have been another like: if you stop i will fulfill your wish, i will erase the nightmares of you killing your family
@@fernandobloodborne770 Not in the first game where he actually helped him. This was before he was infected by the Evil Fear.
I don't think Zeus can feel anything anymore.
"you, boy, are not yourself."
People seem to forget this, but this is Kratos's first scolding towards the insane Atreus.
It's clear that, for all Kratos's displeasure with his son's childish exuberance, he still sees Atreus as his son and knows how Atreus is the heart of the two. Kratos needs Atreus's good nature more than he likes to admit because the child brings the best of all situations. And just seeing Atreus becoming a bratty piece of garbage hurts him a lot, and the scolding is the breaking point of Kratos's tolerance.
And for certain, Kratos's scolding is VERY effective and efficient. No long-winded speeches or Aesops. Just a hard calling-out and that's it. Afterward, Atreus is relatively quick to be back to his good-natured self.
Contrast this with Odin's treatment of Heimdall: Odin inflates Heimdall's ego and tells him what he wants to hear. As a result, Heimdall is cocky, arrogant, egotistical and lacks curiosity and compassion.

dad is being kidnapped, oh well, i'm still here
He’s like: hell nah, last time I got involved in these affairs, I got sent back in time with the blow of a hammer
Well, if it was an adult Atreus from the future who blew the horn, then maybe Jörmangandr was literally told to not interfere with that fight? Because Atreus could only see the harm he had done by going to Hel?
As someone who lost his dad at a young age, when this game came out I felt like most of their relationship was my dad teaching me from the other side as one of the things that i love and that's video games. Love you Dad
@arianna thank you 🙏
5:49 I love that tone from Kratos.
4:58 young Atreus just casually took a face fulla concrete there 😂😂
3:14 imagine if kratos stopped halfway and just said, "he was a brat anyway" 😂😂😂🤣

I hate how cocky Atreus gets when he finds out about the god thing
That stab on the shoulder was well worth
Well he's a kid. That's how they're supposed to behave
@@ManojKumar-hn8rc no that's how a brat behaves if Kratos would have been more prevalent in his life he would have been better in distancing himself he turned his son what he was so desperately trying to keep him from becoming a cocky god who looks at humans as tiny and insignificant children are a product of there upbringing not there age
@@bobbohobbo5836 seems like you're oblivious to character development
@@bobbohobbo5836 have you finished the game? atreus thought of himself as a mortal only to find out hes a god. most kids his age are immature, his character develops as the game progresses. you either didnt pass the game or didnt pay attention to the story

If this was classic Kratos, you could add "and rips his head off" to the title.
He was always a family man, I doubt he’d consider doing that. I know it was a joke

A random Rat Hello brother
Kratos would’ve been more aggressive if he was younger
Kratos better daddy than Goku
In fact, at least he tries to be with his son.
Kyuni Gami That’s not too difficult tbh
Kyuni Gami damn right he is
Kyuni Gami Oh look! A ridiculously easy comparison!

That, and the piccolo is Gohan's real father crap.

Kratos scolding someone for being “unkind” is the wildest character development ever.
"Kratos Gets Mad"
Every single person who died to him: "Oh really? I had no idea"
The writing for this is excellent, everyone that was telling Kratos that he should tell his son that he is a god was wrong. This section where Atreus becomes a complete ass to everyone is exactly what Kratos wanted to avoid.
Steven Yim Exactly, which is why Kindness is more important than the truth.
loafhero There must be a balance of speaking truth out of love and kindness.
Steven Yim All this time Kratos fear was not being ready to tell him the truth of his nature. But it was Atreus that wasn’t ready to know the truth of who he was. Sometimes we’re too immature to handle the truth of who we are. And that’s what Kratos wanted to avoid.
Kratos was right about not wanting Atreus to know he’s a god, but he knew telling him the truth would stop him from being sick. He did the right thing by telling Atreus the truth, but he should have warned him to keep his ego in check. Something no god really knows how to do aside from Mimir.

How appropriate that Kratos had the unstoppable aura while he was running to save Atreus from Baldur

*Blades of Athena. The Blades of Chaos were stripped from him in the first GoW when he was fighting Ares.

I find it extremely wholesome that kratos pushes Atreus and then holds out his hand and says "boy...I" like he was about to apologize
Atreus shouldn’t have slapped his wound lmao.

You just watched Kratos get a pillar stabbed into him and you’re questioning a knife to the shoulder?
Chuck Bates Not to mention back in the Greek days, he died instantly when Ares did what Baldur does here.
WonkyTonkBotty back then he was only a demi god since he hadnt opened the pandora box at that point in time
And when zeus killed him with the blade of olympus kratos died because it was a weapon infused with the power of another god (the strongest of them all even)
Its normal something like this wouldnt kill kratos
As for atreus it is weird but it does seem he has some kind of toughness
Like when he fell of the serpents mouth without getting injured
MrXxdarklordxX He's part-Olympian God and part-Giant, so that answers how tough he is.
Atreus: She wasn’t a god
Kratos: *She was better than a god and you shall not dishonor her*
5:40 The slight break in Kratos' tone is what sells it here. He knows more than anyone the cost of vengeance for he had lived a life full of it. He realises its ultimately not worth it, and to see his son take the steps toward being like he was shakes him to his core...
I just got to this point in the game and I think I get it, why his behavior changed so suddenly and changed back as quick....he was drunk, like literally five minutes before his dad gave him some strong wine just before
I forgot about that
If he was drunk, his aim would be crap. Not to mention, that was a weak-ass swig he took. This was just him being a jerk. Even before the wine, you could hear his ego slowly go up, when he said, he felt dumb for feeling bad for killing the Dark Elves. Even Mimir raised an eyebrow going, "Uhhhhh, laddy that's a red flag right there."
His behaviour turn realy bad since he drink that wine
@@squashmallow2006 he's Loki...for all we know he's a better aim drunk 🥴
I just LOVE this scene, Kratos, of all people even when being pissed off at him not ONCE resorts to violence against his son. He may be a monster but knows better how to raise a child. That is character development AND GOOD PARENTING.
“Who’s activated the bridge?”
“hEY I AsKEd YoU A QuESTiOn”
If there was ever a perfect line for a Father to tell his child in real life "You will Honor your Mother and abandon this path you have chosen, IT IS NOT TOO LATE" is one of them perfect lines

3:10 - 5:08 is such an epic sequence of events, really gets the heart going
This game is absolutely incredible and I’ve never even played it, yet I’ve watched every cutscene. The visuals to the dialogue to the plot and father son dynamic... absolute masterpiece.
you need to play it, even if you have not played previous GoW games. Its a work of art imo, especially for sons and fathers.
You absolutely need to play it and the previous GoW games if you haven't already played them.
You realize how much he truly loves Atreus when he yells his name instead of yelling boy when Baldur takes Atreus

Baldur: if you had no mother, then yes?
Kratos: oh, it's just my dad was a real bastard

I think Kratos is patient with his boy because he knows a lot of Atreus' traits came from him lmao. "You are quick to temper, you are rash ..." yep ... sounds like the old Kratos to me
The most respectable thing is that even when he is angry at Atreus, he doesn't resort to violence against his son. He is a true father.
