Thank you for the video! Im glad i wasnt the only one who couldnt find that flasher relay to test. I cleaned the corrosion and wow it worked! Thank you!
I was driving with my kids in 2018 Silverado completely stock, no modifications at all and suddenly...lost power for about 45 secs... Pulled off as best as i could... Got the alert "theft detection" and to cycle driver side window up and down.. restarted the truck and the turn signals were sending a fault and flashing faster than normal... I was thinking the worst ... Checked all fuses and relays.. wondering what in the world is going on.. then o found your video and tried it.. they were full of corrosion and dirt.. electrical cleaning spray and dielectric grease .. no more issues... You saved me a ton of $ and time .... Thank you ao much... Very grateful to you for making this video.... I find it crazy that one electrical plug related to turn signals can shut the entire vehicle... I think Im gonna be switching to something more "old school" maybe a 80's bronco or something i can actually work on
Thanks, man, this was just what I needed. My '08 Silverado started flashing fast, but all the elements were still lighting up. Popping the leftmost (driver side) blue connector was the one that I think did it. I did them all, off and back on, didn't notice any dirt or corrosion, but the contact must be improved anyway, 'cause now I've got normal blink speeds! Very helpful and well done.
Hey thanks so much for your video, my 2009 Chevy was having the same issues! You saved me a trip to the parts store for new bulbs!!! You helped me fix the problem👍🏽
Got to love RUclips. Glad I found this. My 09 GMC Sierra did the fast blinking with nothing happening at the left rear. This was after a fuel pump replacement. Found that connector after watching this video and found it wasn't fully seated. Had to clean the dirt and corrosion around the plug so it would seat completely and my signal works again. I need to get rid of this old crusty truck lol.
Just ran across this video!!! Thanks so much for posting. I did what you recommended to my 2012 Silverado, and it fixed the same issue you had. Can’t believe it!!! I was thinking BCM the whole time.
I had the same symptoms on my 2012 GMC Sierra - no left rear turn signals, although bulbs were good. Front signals worked, but blinked very fast. Your suggestion worked. I took the plugs off the junction box, put them back on and that fix the problem. Thanks!
Mine had some corrosion on the top (gray plug). Went ahead and removed the board that all the plugs on it and ran some sand paper across all the terminals. Worked like a charm so thanks! Always appreciate a free fix .
Jimi you saved my wall. Yes I was about to beat it down with my head. 🤦🏼♂️ Only AFTER replacing bulbs that were still good and a fuse that was also, still good did I find your video. Went straight outside cleaned the sand, grit, general debris. And *PRESTO*! Thanks man. I appreciate ya.

Thank you so much for this video. Right turn signal/BrakeLight/Reverse Light not working. Spent a lot of time researching what could be my problem. This video fixed my problem in 2 minutes. I have a 2010 GMC 2500.
I referenced your video to check my 2011 Sierra 1500 this morning. My driver's side signals don't respond in any way but the hazards do so I was thinking this had an outside chance of being the source of the issue. Still I really appreciated the video and it got me looking at a part of the truck I wasn't aware of. Last week I changed out the rear differential oil so I got to see how dirty and rusty the area was (the top of the spare which may have never been dropped before this was totally filthy). I was actually surprised to see how clean the insides of the four plug connectors in the area were. I'm going to look more around the Body Control Module (BCM) wiring and possibly the BCM itself. Thank you Jimikiwi!!!
Thanks! I hope you find the source of the issue. I'm glad to hear you're keeping up maintenance on your truck. Let us know what you find out. Inquiring minds want to know.
Did you fix the problem? I’m having somewhat the same issue When I hit my remote key to lock and unlock my 07 silverado, both turn signals on the driver side blink once but when I try flipping on the turn signal or hazards, they won’t blink or nothing, however my driver side towing mirror has a turn signal bulb on the back of it and that does blink when turn signal is activated I’m sure I’ll figure it out on my next day off
Hoping this comment gets noticed. I have a 2010 Silverado 1500. Brand new head lights and tail lights. Wired correctly with load resistors. Checked all the fuses as well. But god forbid if I turn that switch to the right or left it keeps hyper flashing. Do you recommend checking those back connections at the junction box still as a potential fix?
Cleaned and greased these connectors and it fixed the problem for about two days. Not sure what else could be going on here. All lights come on when using the remote start, but as soon as I toggle the ignition on, all bulbs in the rear driver housing go out. Driving me crazy!
Cleaned those up didn't look corroded and that was the fix. Took the trailer plug out and cleaned all the dirt out of the plug. 2008 GMC 2500 HD Sierra SLE.
Short and sweet, something for me to check! Also some Chevy trucks of 2000's era have a history of burning out the flasher relay found under the dash panel below the steering column, to possibly help future viewers.
Thank you for this--im gonna go check my '14 chevy silverado. After a heavy snow, I used a set of chains that whipped the ever-loving daylight out of the wheel well (speed increased without pullout for removal). Next time I started my truck up, I had the issue with my rear passenger turn signal not working, and haven't been able to track down why. Based on location and what happened, I'll check this next.
Same issue just came up on my '17 Silverado, and the indicator keeps popping on everytime I turn my right signal on. Guess I'll be checking for dirt/debris or corrosion 🤞
FYI Turning the Hazards on will not show Hyper Flash they are designed to flash by timing and not by current so to test your blinkers put one on at a time.
Thank for the video! Will send my son the link to your video. He is experiencing the same situation with is 2018 Silverado on the right side. He has changed the bulb and it work for a few weeks then started messing up again. The dealership Service Manager told him it is the controller module. I don't believe it is the module. Will let you know what we find out.
I forgot to ask, but what did you use to clean the contacts with? Would a break clean spray work? Or just getting in there with a brass brush and cleaning first then spray with brake clean or carb cleaner
Any auto parts or Walmart carry cleaners specifically formulated to clean electrical connections without damage. I don't know what the difference is, but is a good thing to have around your shop/garage. Sometimes the cleaner will do the trick. Sometimes a bit of scrubbing is needed. Brass brush is a good idea.

Normally you don't have corrosion on the contacts/terminals in the connectors at that junction block, but you will have a lot of sand, grit, etc. that can lead to bad connections. Typical materials are steel that is coated to prevent corrosion, and nonferrous materials like copper and brass that do not corrode easily, but will given the right conditions. The connectors can also become loose just because of the location where the truck bed/suspension bounce around more than the front of the truck. Vehicles including trucks have a safety feature in the firmware that is looking for resistance in the wiring to ensure the bulbs are present and presumably working. For some vehicles, the firmware is only looking at the rear lights, which makes sense when you consider which lights are most important when it comes to safety. The car behind you is not really affected if you have no lights in the front of the vehicle, but is affected if your rear lights are not working. The firmware creates the "hyper-flashing" intentionally as a way to let you know you have a problem.
I have a 1997 GMC cut-a-way Savana 3500 and the blinker is also flashing fast; I have gone though about everything I can find, but after watching this I will go dig around and see if there is a connector I didn't find. LOL.
What was the numbers of your tail light bulbs I come up with someone had missed matched bulbs numbers 3157 and 3156 I guess once it’s a little hotter bolt Thank you for your advice you helped me a lot
Hey bud, I just saw this video after having the same issues with my 2011 silverado. I was wondering if you had to disconnect the battery before cleaning up the connectors?
I'm not sure, but it's worth a peak under the bumper. I used a "CRC" product called QD Electronic Cleaner, but any electric contact cleaner should work. Come to think of it, 2002 might still have the flasher relay. Either way, good luck and let us know how it goes.
Do you think this would help as well, my right front blinker doesn't flash but the back does on passenger side . Drivers side is ok . I check fuses and all is fine I am gonna take all these cables off and give em a good cleaning
2008 Chevy Silverado. My blinkers work but I have no response sound when I use them. Also, front speakers don't work but my rear speakers do. Any advice?
I had a similar issue in a Monte Carlo. It turned out to be the amplifier for the stereo. You can pick one up secondhand for a couple hundred bucks. They go about 450 brand new.
Thank you sir that was my issue exactly except it wasnt corroded it was literally hanging loose from the connection I just dusted it off and pushed it back in thanks alot.
Well mr kiwi even if the turn signals are blinking hella fast when u put the hazards on its gunna blink at the normal speed cause it’s made for emergency’s.

I have this problem but only with the left side not even my running lights turn on just the reverse light and my reverse light blinks instead of the turn signals my break light dont work on the left either
Hmmm. Did you try cleaning the connector? And, are they factory tail lights? I have a friend who installed LEDs. They eventually had to add some type of relay so they would function properly.
Did you figure out what the issue was. I am having a similar problem. When I disconnect my driver rear reverse bulb the lights light brighter. When I put it on they dimmed down. Idk if this will help with our issue.
@@MrGomez77301 i ended up taking all the conections off as he did on video and cleaned them with light wire brush connected them and was perfect try it might b ur problem
Could you please give some idea. I've 2006 Honda Odyssey. Front right turning light not working. Light good, same side tail light blinking fast. I've no idea what to do. If anyone knows appreciated. Thanks.
I was working on a Monte Carlo with similar ussue. The problem was inside the headlight housing. One of the wires connected to the bulbs was frayed deep in the housing. Changed the bulb a couple times before figuring it out. Replaced both headlights for $125 from Amazon. Problem solved.
Great! Anyone know of front drivers turn signal.. same thing, changed bulbs... work then no work .. and these bulbs are a pain to get at! Help?? 2017 Sierra SLT MODEL
Calvin Dunham it's different on the Trailblazer / Envoy. The location I reference in this video is only for your Towing hook up on those vehicles. Sorry
there is no flasher. it's programmed thru the body module. the flasher sound & warning chimes are programmed thru that as well & the flasher clicking, & warning chimes are transmitted thru the driver's side front speaker.
Please help: 08 Silverado 1500 When I turn on the truck the driver side tail light it out and when I have it in park and or put my turn signal the reverse lights turn on I unlock the truck and the driver side won’t turn on but when I lock it they do turn on
@@JimiKiwi no I haven’t cleaned the connector which connector you think it is? Also the brake lights don’t turn on. Thank you for your help I appreciate it
@@JimiKiwi I change the cables as well and still no flash . Am this king of taking my truck to dealer ship in January after the holidays . I have not ask many mechanics cause they aren't electricians for cars and they don't wanna play and then make it worst or damage computer . Stuff like that.
@@JimiKiwi It didnt work for me it was a shot in the dark as it is my front left side. Flashers work fine. I have reseated the plugs in the rear. Changed the Switch on the steering column. Its just funny they work fine for about 5 seconds than the front ones dont blink any more and the rear ones blink fast. All bulbs have been replaced including side marker bulb and all Sockets look good. I ended up trading the truck in for cash late yesterday and the blinker problem never came up. But thanks for this post it was worth the try.

@@JimiKiwi everything factor and yes once i seen the video i cleaned them replaced bulbs checked fuses….
I live along the coast so the corrosion got bad enough on mine that I had to replace the wiring harnesses between the taillight and that connector.
Geez, I haven't run into that yet, thank goodness. If you figure anything out, let me know. Otherwise, I'll share whatever I find.
JimiKiwi will do ..... I’ve been through three bulbs...all tested later to be ok!!??
Good information
Thanks
Thank You!!
Right on 😎👍
The same thing is happening but I changed evrything nd still nothing
I recently had to change the wiring harness. Mine is approaching 200,000 and I guess it was time.
mine keeps blowing the fuse, s soon as i try. Any suggestions??
Hmmm... Maybe one of the bulbs is the culprit?
Can you please move to Minnesota
Haha!!!
🙂
That was it!? Mine didn't even look corroded, but I unplugged it and plugged it back in, works. Go figure.
Awesome!
Search all over the internet and still can't find the location for my turns signal relay.
Depending on the vehicle, it might not have one. This truck controls the exterior lights with a computer :(
Thank you.
You're Welcome!
YeSir.u.The.Man...
Would it be the same on an 06 envoy?
I'm not sure. I know someone with the Trailblazer / Envoy. I'll take a look and let you know. Give me a couple of days.
Calvin Dunham it's different on the Trailblazer / Envoy. The location I reference in this video is only for your Towing hook up on those vehicles. Sorry
Damn I appreciate that saved.my ass 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Rod Hulin Kickass!!! Glad to hear it!
Kickass!!! Glad to hear it!
Can't find my flasher on 2009 Silverado, where the heck is it? Need to replace it, no clicking sounds.
Lee Steele there isn't one. Chances are, it's corrosion in that wire harness block.
Lee Steele it's computerized. It's not a regular flasher like we're used to.
It is programmed through the body control moduele (BCM) unit.
there is no flasher. it's programmed thru the body module. the flasher sound & warning chimes are programmed thru that as well & the flasher clicking, & warning chimes are transmitted thru the driver's side front speaker.
Thanks Jim!
Glad to help!
Please help: 08 Silverado 1500 When I turn on the truck the driver side tail light it out and when I have it in park and or put my turn signal the reverse lights turn on I unlock the truck and the driver side won’t turn on but when I lock it they do turn on
Have you tried cleaning the connector?
@@JimiKiwi no I haven’t cleaned the connector which connector you think it is? Also the brake lights don’t turn on. Thank you for your help I appreciate it
I would clean all 4. It certainly won't hurt.
@@JimiKiwi I’ll do that thank you
Don't forget dielectric grease before putting it all back together.
Corrosion at the fuse block?
I’ll give this a shot. Just not today.
That's the problem with those trucks after '07; the flasher is programmed through the BCM unit.
I did that on mine. Still doesn't work. I don't k ow what it is .
I eventually bought new tail lights. Seemed to solve everything when I replaced the old wire connections that came with the new lights.
@@JimiKiwi I change the cables as well and still no flash . Am this king of taking my truck to dealer ship in January after the holidays . I have not ask many mechanics cause they aren't electricians for cars and they don't wanna play and then make it worst or damage computer . Stuff like that.
That is a sad story, my friend. I hope you have better luck with your next truck.
I'm been asking . Sorry I just read what it says that am king or so lol . My bad sometimes writing can have many mistakes .
No worries 😁
I have tried everything except that I will try in the morning and Let you know
Please do! Let us know.
Wow. That had to be frustrating. At least, it's out of your hands now. I wanna see the look on the technician's face when he figures that one out 🙂
