- The King of Fighters 98 is my favorite KOF game on the franchise, the Dreamcast got a port called King of Fighters 99 - Dream Match that was based on KoF 98 with 3D polygons backgrounds....

@Joao Carlos Marins Há ports que são feitos para consolas com mais potência e outras para consolas com menos potência, por isso essa do "é claro porque é um port" não é assim tão óbvio. Afinal de contas a versão de PS4 do Final Fantasy VIII (sim 8) é um port da versão de ps1 e é superior à original, só um pequeno exemplo dos vários que há 🙂
Não é bem assim que funciona. As vezes a desenvolvedora quando estava fazendo o port poderia estar passando por uma crise financeira e que por isso fez o port as pressas para ter caixa suficiente para manter o negócio. Esse foi o caso da snk. No lançamento do dreamcast ela estava com o caixa lá embaixo, e faliu em 2003 sendo comprada pela playmore... Então sim, pode haver sim ports cagados. Esse kof do dreamcast foi um deles. A comparação que você fez com o final fantasy não tem sentido. A squarenix não está falida ou estava falindo no momento do lançamento desse port "remaster" do ps1 e pode fazer o port com calma e tranquilidade. Não tem sentido seu comentário.

Ou só estás a oferecer ofensas gratuitas e tentativas de atestado de burrice que saem pela culatra?🤔 Eu disse exatamente isso, que um Port apenas significa que foi feita uma versão de um jogo para outro sistema, pode ser para uma consola superior ou para uma consola inferior, pode ser uma cópia direta do jogo ou uma otimização, o que disse foi precisamente que não é por ser um Port como o amigo de cima disse, que vai justificar a qualidade ou falta dela de um jogo 🙂

Sao diferentes....
A versão de dreamcast, a única coisa que é melhor é a intro, porém a gameplay deixa a desejar, não aproveitou todo o potencial da placa naomi do dreamcast, os sprites dos personagens são menores, as fases borradas sem movimento, a versão do neo geo é a melhor.

I feel like some of the backgrounds are more grand on the neo, larger scale objects and whatnot. But one thing sticks out like a sore thumb to me, and that's the shadows and reflections the DC version is much better in that regard.
On the pixel art neo geo wins, hands down....
But on more advanced effects...of course....dreamcast is more capable.....

It's because the neo geo doesn't uses a pseudo transparency effect, while the Dreamcast has its own.

Because is a ripped version, they shrink the gd rom on less than 600 mb. For that they cut the tracks and reuse some. The original gd rom isn't like that, but still is a great job from the rippers!
@@baigos No, the problem is indeed on the original GD ROM. I own the game and I confirm that in team match mode the music reboots between each round
@@DjMarcusProject well, this thing is common in all games with redbook audio, like the street fighter alpha 1 and 2 for ps and saturn, or the kof for ps and neogeo cd. Snk divide the arranged versions of the stage's themes in 2 or 3 parts with some cuts, like esaka in kof 96, and when the track in the round finish, repeat the same.
yep.. that's the one thing that kills the game.. otherwise it would have been one of the best versions.
Controls are so good on the dreamcast version.. The scenarios look awesome while all nostalgia is there.
Amazing some arena in arcade MVS version Kof98 are pre render 3d CGI, but Dreamcast are real time 3d render

Não sou um grande especialista na neo geo, e ate conheço muito pouco, mas pelo que vejo da uma abada a dreamcast, pelo menos neste jogo.

A neo geo....estava muitos anos a frente da concorrência.....e em sprites 2D era uns monstro.....
A DC era uma maquina muito superior....ate pela idade.....mas em 2D e com o GD rom....era dificil suplantar a neo geo.....
Mas noutros ports a luta foi bem mais renhida.....

Wait. Terry got few Wild Ambition / KOF99 voices in the “Kof98” Dreamcast version?! “Burn Knuckle” is the same as used in Kof99 taken from WA. “Rising Tackle” is from WA but isn’t even used in KOF99. And “Power Geyser”’s Geyser part is the one from the WA SDM which wasn’t used in Kof99.
The rest is the same as the original kof98, taken from RBS/RB2/Kof97.

Well of course its better on the neo geo. On the aes its not a home port its exactlly like the one in the arcade. No changes needed to be made to fit the game on the cartridge is the same on the mvs, just a different format.

No Dreamcast apenas esta com filtro. Estao bem semelhantes, mas se para ver, na cenas dos barcos, no Neo geo a animaçao é mais rapida. No Dreamcast a agua parece nem se mexer. 3:31

I feel like some stages look better on the Neo Geo like the Tokyo Street stage looks better to me on the Neo Geo. On the other hand the "Palace" stage looks way better on the Dreamcast version. The character reflections are far better and very stable, while on the Neo Geo the reflections are very flickery and unstable. The fountain in the background is just a blue mess of pixels while on the DC it actually looks like water.
The music is also better on the Dreamcast since it uses the arrange soundtrack. I'm aware that the Neo Geo CD also has this soundtrack though.
Aside from the DC having 3D backgrounds vs the 2D ones from the Neo Geo both are amazing games and both play equally the same.
Overall I prefer the DC version due to having cleaner hud and the 3D backgrounds.
This isn't a real comparison though. A real comparison would be in real life on a CRT TV which these games were made for. They both look pretty bad on any modern HD TV.

Dreamcast had 3D backgrounds. This and Kof 99 had 3D backgrounds.
And what do you prefer?2D or 3D?

@@RGF oh, well I love 2D sprites but the se 3D backgrounds are well done. Dreamcast also has CD quality audio so in this case dreamcast is superior in graphics and sound plus the additional intros.

Neo Geo Hands down. This is 1990 hardware and its matching hardware ten years newer. It was truly ahead of its time. For that reason alone it wins.
In 2D sprites and pixel art.....man Neo Geo is a monster.....

I love this side-by-side. Its crazy how much more detailed and colorful the AES backgrounds are... they really POP! The Dreamcast backgrounds just aren't as visually pleasing to my eye.
I’d be willing to bet that it would have looked pristine and just as good if they had utilized VGA support. It really sucks that of the few games not supported by vga this and a few other snk fighters are on that list.

I'm not very knowledgeable about VGA yet, other than my computer monitor takes that and DVI. (Forgive me if this is a dumb question) - Some of the 3d backgrounds have new, different assets on the Dreamcast, and they look blurred together. Would VGA support have cleared up the polygons there?

They could be rendered in a higher resolution indeed....
But not sure if they could had a pixel perfect mode without removing the antialising for the 3D elements....

That's true....but future port got better on the DC, so they were still learning how to use the hardware.

Well, the backgrounds on the DC look better. Take a look at the fountain. It looks like water while the neo geo is a bright pixel blue. It's like a better dithering effect. The neo geo is just pixel perfect, maybe it's the 240p? Is kof99 on 240p or 480i before the ossc?
It's a pixel art monster....the neo geo....
Its 240p over rgb....but the ossc does wonders in systems like neo geo.....saturn.....megadrive......amazing quality....👍
