    The LED upgrade is a significant improvement over OEM. Those square body instrument clusters were never overly bright even when they were new.

    You could put resistors inline to LED bulbs for the charging system.

    • @RocknusUrbanCamouflage
      @RocknusUrbanCamouflage  2 года назад

      Totally could! I just find it easier to keep the original bulbs. Those two lights are not on when the truck is running so to me it's OK if they are not LED. Thanks for the watch and comment, XC.

    Good video, thanks!!
    Did you find a safe and effective way to clean up the contacts on the thin plastic foil with all the contact strips and on the contacts of the bulb holders?
    Perhaps using a cotton swab with mild acid like citric acid or alike?
    How about putting a dab of non-conductive grease on all those contacts before installing to prevent new corrosion build up?

    • @RocknusUrbanCamouflage
      @RocknusUrbanCamouflage  Год назад

      I just used alcohol and some CRC Electrical contact cleaner. It worked fine. I actually found a gauge housing that was in much better shape than the one I cleaned up so I took the one depicted in this video out of the truck and swapped the better one in. I also bought a brand new circuit for the back of it. The one from this video is ready to go to someone in need. Thanks for the view and the comment, Jake.

    Notice the LEDs say 194 on the cluster lights does it matter 168 or 194?

    • @RocknusUrbanCamouflage
      @RocknusUrbanCamouflage  2 года назад +1

      Semper Fi. At 5:23, look underneath the big 194 and you'll see these also work for 168 and 2825. Again though... Make sure to use a real 194 bulb in the gen 2 spot and a real 168 bulb in the gen 1 spot. No LEDs in those spots.

    I haven't seen any mention of the water temperature guage, mine is broken and I tried tracing it but in the engine bay I have no idea where to look. Do you sell the water temperature guage and could you do a quick video on how to install the water temperature guage and what ever wiring it requires?

    • @RocknusUrbanCamouflage
      @RocknusUrbanCamouflage  2 года назад

      Hi Shawn. My CUCVs didn't come with temp gauges. They just have "idiot lights." The wire for that light goes to your radiator. Passenger side. If you want to run a gauge instead of a light you would need to swap out the on/off style sending unit you have in your radiator now for a variable unit.

      @@RocknusUrbanCamouflage so you're saying the guage in it is a dummy?, I'm learning about this truck, I saw on the radiator a push on thing like what's on the fuel sending unit and was wondering how it works. No I have a far better understanding.

    Why are there two gen lights? What does gen 1 do and what does gen 2 do

    • @RocknusUrbanCamouflage
      @RocknusUrbanCamouflage  Год назад

      It's a 24v system. There are 2 generators (alternators) that each put out 12+v to total 24+v charging (equals about 29v charging).

    I have a m1008 and can't figure out why my gen 1 and 2 lights don't come on when I'm starting my truck....IV been told they should.... And I think there's something slowly killing my batteries also... Any ideas??? Thanks I appreciate any good feedback from anyone.

    • @RocknusUrbanCamouflage
      @RocknusUrbanCamouflage  2 года назад

      Hi Mark. Thanks for watching. Start with the simple and make sure you have a good #168 bulb in the gen1 spot and a good #192 bulb in the gen 2 spot. Those bulbs are part of the charging circuit.

      @@xcelerator67 Take voltage readings at the 2-wire plugs at each alt, key off and key on. GEN 1 should read 12v on red wire with key off, 12v on both with key on. Same for GEN 2, but will be 24v. Those are the exciter circuit. Red wire is from the batteries, brown is from the GEN bulbs. As for a voltage drain, I'd suspect the a regulator in one, or both, of the alts. May want to pull them and have them tested.
