- My Perodua Nippa (nee Kancil) gets all noisy again. Does it sound like a Honda NSX now? I reckon it does.
Then I set about fixing the brakes. May contain flashes of Proton.

Again another legend Perodua Nippa or Kancil ( Mouse Deer) from Malaysia. Still hv many thousands of these on the road now. It's one of the gas saving tiny cars around, u will get bang for yr buck for this car.... yet just don't u crash it ok? ;)

Its nice to see someone really into old Peroduas and Protons, they've been building newer models but they don't seem to be able to ship the newer ones to the UK due to European Emissions Regulations. Proton has been bought by Geely now who also owns Volvo. Probably just a couple more years Proton will enter the UK again I reckon.

this type of kancil now being upgraded with 650cc turbo engine by many youngsters here in malaysia..we called it kancil turbo..my cousin upgraded his kancil to 1000cc mira daihatsu engine..more power and more fuel saving he said..
and wasted of money , am i right?
well not really..they have their own community..where they will try to compete with each other..after all its legal here in malaysia..motorspots and wasting money cannot be separated..
When you've got the Nippa completely back to normal it might just be your best and most reliable car.
It's been great to be fair. There's nothing to go wrong! Did have a misfire, but new HT leads cured that.

Why Perodua Kancil or Nippa is good?
The reason is :
1) its small and cheap.
2) save fuel and money.
3) low maintenance
4) some part are easily to be found on local spare part shop or halfcut.
And lastly #5) please don't make Perodua Kancil/Nippa cry because you guys hate that car 😑

I own a perodua nipah 850cc twin cam top speed 100 mph n/a engine odo clocked with almost 200k miles still runs good ..durable.. end of tha day still a daihatsu. Fuel consumption fairly good around 100 km 8 liters avarage speed 110km/h
Ha ha ha, brilliant! :-) Uncle Cecil would be very pleased that his old Nippa is still going strong! :-P I have to admit, that even in 2012 when I drove that car 15 miles down the road, I was rather unimpressed by the effeciency of the brakes, but then again it sort of went with everything else that wasn't great on that car! lol I would imagine that that was probably the original exhaust, I don't remember him having that done! :-P I take it that your partner is happy with her little Nippa? :-)

First generation Perodua Kancil in 90's!
Simple is beautiful.
I still owned the 1st generation. Only hv 4 gears and the top speed reached 120km/h. Running condition.
Sort of sounds like an NSX with just with a little bit more blowing but with some V6 cars with aftermarket sports exhausts fitted on 2.8i Capri's, NSX's, Vectra GSI's etc or even deleting the back box it can make them sound like a 3 cylinder engine.

Those brake pads and pins look very similar to the early to mid 90's Ford Escort parts! I think Mazda of the same era also has similar parts!

Mostly most of the malaysian ready swap to L5 engine or L2s turbo with LSD. Unless those who like to use auto version they mostly will keeo it that way and just change the bodykit.

Not specifically because they are Malaysian to be honest. I just like the cars that other people don't like so much. Malaysian cars were very cheap when sold here, but that doesn't make them rubbish. They're good cars!

HubNut Malaysian cars can be quite decent to be honest. I own 2007 Proton Gen 2
1.6 auto hatchback, engine clocked at 249k miles, did 3 cambelt replacement, installed performance camshafts, engine mounting replaced, suspension bushings replaced and never had major issues so far. Just those tiny bits of issues that i can mend myself. Spare parts quite cheap.
Performance? Im pleased with the current state with that kind of mileage
