I gotta say I really love the like "casualness" of this channel and how they kinda go on and talk about other stuff for a minute that isn't Warhammer really makes me feel like I'm in a Friend group and not a school lecture
That's honestly something 40k is missing a lot. I love how a ton of lore channels are told through the POV of actually being IN WARHAMMER... but if you're new to the setting, it's either cringe or daunting af. Having just casual conversations about the story is pretty cool.

12 hour heresy video. Not because I'm interested in the heresy, because i want a 12 hour video.
I ain't a potato farmer (have grown potatoes for school though. And because my dad just wanted to) but, rural education is brilliant so i did agricultural science.
TLDR, potatoes are a pretty easy crop to grown. They aren't picky about soil, but prefer acidic ones, mostly just need a decent amount of water but are able to deal with periods of drought, have few diseases you need to worry about (blight is the major one, but honestly it's hardly complex), and you don't even need to weed them much, after like 5 weeks the foliage blots out the sun so they have minimal weed growth. It's not quite Rice, where the water level is "yes", and actively enjoys also being a low intensity fish farm, but they are pretty simple.
That being said, if you want to be profitable with farming, you can get some manic detail going on even with basic potatoes. Aside from the absolute sourcery which is making varieties, and you can make potatoes which also produce tomatoes and i think tobacco if you want (all the same family), they do have a optimal soil PH, optimal water levels, soil consistency, micronutrient levels, crop rotations, you can talk for months about chemical, organic, and biological pesticides and herbicides and which are better, given it's 40K the mechanicum probably have optimal light levels and cycles plus CO2 and oxygen requirements in vertical farming setups, it's a whole process.
And remember, potatoes are an easy crop. May the emperor have mercy on your soul if you try to grow beans efficiently. Or maintain an orchard. You can grow those simply, but when your introducing pruning, multi day harvesting cycles, and supports to the mix, there's a reason every country in the world has a department of agriculture, and there's a reason they get more money than most militaries.
I have a sizable crop of various peppers and holy crap are they an absolute pain to deal with. Texas can be brutal with some plants, and I'm working with homemade juryrigged stuff crammed into a suburban backyard.
I've sunk a few years and a few thousands of dollars into setting up a mish-mash of pseudo-hydro/aeroponic planters. All because ten years back, my backyard neighbor poisoned his yard to turn it into a gravel lot, and the chemicals he used flooded my home from backyard to front.
Lost three fig trees, two asian pear trees, two apple trees, a plum, a pomegranate, apricot, three tangerines, a black walnut, and all fully grown. All dead because an asshole didn't want to weeds or a lawn.
The walnut is barely alive and I just can't seem to fully revive it.
Granted I get a very decent amount for what I have, enough to sell and help cover some bills in this economy. But upkeep can be a drain, especially whwn things turn bad.
@Capsuleer7 bro that loss was catastrophic I was reading it and it kept going I'm so sorry about that seems like a shitty thing to do instead of mowing the lawn once or twice a month.
@lUseMyBlade Yeah, it's a fairly common thing to see here. People kill their lawns and lay down gravel, sand, and so on to make room for more cars or avoid yardwork.
Several near me have done the same, with one guy I used to go to high school with running an autoshop out of this garage. His yard is all sand and filled with cars for sale or being repaired.

One of my favorite anecdotes from WWI was wheb the Kaiser tried to modify the Schlieffen plan as it was going underway.
Helmuth von Moltke, the German Chief of Staff and highest ranking general in the war, denied him, saying "you cannot improvise the deployment of millions! It cannot be done!" The embittered kaiser replied "your uncle would have given me a different answer."
Important context, Moltke's uncle (also named Helmut von Moltke) was the general who defeated France in the Franco-Prussian War, and did so with extraordinary skill. Effectively, he was calling Moltke a cheap imitation of his uncle.
Allegedly, Moltke replied "your grandfather wpuld have known better than to ask for something so stupid."
Important context, Wilhelm II's grandfather, Wilhelm I, was the king and Kaiser who won the Franco-Prussian War alongside Moltke.

That "super smart special force troops" is very true. I had an old squad leader who ran around with an LRRST unit supporting a special operations group back in the early 2010s. Dude had burn scars from being blown up all over his hands and face. And the stories he would tell us would make us squirm from how bad it was. Even recieved an award for helping write a TM for special operations. But he had a Masters degree in astrophysics. And was super intelligent.

They used trains to ferry all those guys back then.... though they had to march the rest of the way to their trenches to keep the railway out of artillery range which combined with Germany's lack of motorization (mostly due to a lack of rubber or any ersatz thanks to a bunch of embargoes) meant that materiel and supplies had to be carried mostly with horse carts. Some say war is hell but logistics is a strong contender.

16:30 I live in the rural heartland of the US and can personally tell you there is at least one farmer every year that gets an arm or fingers ripped off hell there was one guy a few years ago who was home alone working on some farm equipment got his entire arm ripped off and he had to call the ambulance himself and not only did he survive but they were able to sew his arm back on it’s wild how dangerous farming still is

The guy had to make farms, ferment pickles, kill a chicken, and even time everything right for the sandwich to be made. It took so much money and he just said it was "decent". Train your ability to workout while holding your breath. Breath control and getting used to hypoxic states are 2 very easy ways to make yourself "stronger" since it will help you deal with quite a few situations.
