You would play your game and turn your results in and the store you play in would submit those and there was a live online map that would show you how the war was going. And the different regions of our world were the different battlegrounds of Armageddon. I might still have pictures of that map. But it was a reallllly cool event to see how your games would impact 40k lore. Great times!

Armageddon also has what's called the Season of Fire where every volcano on the planet erupts. When the Season of Fire starts, all fighting stops as no one can march across the planet as there's that much ash and lava everywhere.
Armageddon is where GW started foreshadowing the necrons. The tau didn't exist until much later. And Tyranids were originally on the other side of the galaxy until GW decided to hit pause on ever continuing the storyline by having the Orks and Tyranids fight to a standstill while they figured out what to do next....😢😢
