I used to go hear Pollini perform every year and I saw him perform this piece along with others at Alice Tully Hall in NYC in the 1980's. He usually would program the first half with Schoenberg, Webern, Stockhausen and Berg and then play Beethoven or Chopin after the intermission, forcing people to listen to "the Moderns" first. People would still leave. lol

I think it's the best program: first difficult to listen to then I play easier pieces when the audience is tired

Amazing piece! It sounds like being haunted/stalked by a killer, who then brutally kills you and the killer feels a sense of relief, there's a lot of tension and release as well. People saying this piece is bad have no imagination or ability to listen thoroughly.

Strange but still beautiful, just like Schoenberg's other works.

I actually studied this piece! I made this video at the time because there were no good score videos to go with it, and I find looking at the score when listening really helps concretise the piece in your mind among other things. If you have pieces you are studying, but there is no score for it, I'd be happy to make a video on it.

Handling of tempo would require much more rubato to make this music (its phrasing and expression) work.

So its modern art. But the value of the piece corresponds to the artist or composer. Nobody gives a fuck if its dogshit, if it has a famous composers name, they will think highly of it

"No musical talent is necessary to "compose" this... Zero."
Brother, I understand not liking the music (I don't like the sound of it personally), but to say it takes no musical talent is crazy. Look into the writing of twelve-tone music (by Schoenberg, which this piece is based on), because it definitely requires knowledge and compositional talent, even if it doesn't provide nice-sounding results
