I am completely enchanted by these 8 minutes and 45 seconds. I have no words to describe this feeling. This piece is the embodiment of human expression. I can die happily now that I've found this piece.
He's still a genius. To transcribe something which would result in this masterpiece is hard work. Granted, composing may be harder, but transcribing also takes skill. This is a piece of art, and it is very very very enjoyable.
+esfir ross isn't that the point of it being called a "paraphrase"? Expressing the original idea while in the composer's own way as well as adding their own colors, I see no problem with this fantastic piece of music whatsoever. Calling it being "distorted" sounds quite ridiculous to me.
Wow how can people feel the need to dislike this performance? Pure vandalism.......probably one of the most complete piano pieces to date......and written over 100 yrs ago........amazing.......

So beautiful. I can play this only in my dreams. But I keep poking at it. :) Thanks for bringing the dream alive and so gorgeous! Love all your vids. Thanks for sharing them so freely.
Wow. A surprising, arresting piece of music! I can hear Tchaikovsky in this, and Liszt, and Chopin, and Shostakovich and Ravel, and even Satie-but I suspect it's really all unadulterated Glinka. Not just a showpiece, this is actually a serious piece of music; I didn't think the waltz form could be taken to place so non-trivial. There are melodic surprises, harmonic jaw-droppers, well-timed shifts of mood, and tunes in the inner and lower voices. And the performance sparkles. Till now I've known zero about Glinka but now I want to learn. June, 2014
I could not agree more with your comments ,Mark. And yes, a scintillating performance. I think we are both astounded at what musical gems there are out there, often hidden away . One of the rich wonders of the musical world...
Thank you, Matthew. You caused me to listen to it all over again after two years, and I'm delighted and thrilled all over again. What an amazing, unusual, vibrant composition. I need to go in search of more Glinka, a composer largely ignored in my musical education. M.V.

This is becoming a daily listen for me! Such a fun masterpiece to listen to. Some of my favorite parts: 2:37, 6:22, and the thunderous chromatism at 7:18. Such incredible talent to arrange this (and of course to play it).
This is so beautiful, you made the piece so much more interesting than the original. It is now my most favourite Valse. I've been listening to this piece over and over. Amazing job!
Это совершенно потрясающее, новое произведение искусства. Чувствуеться русская душа, промелькают листовские и рахманиновские приемы. Вячеслав я под большим впечатлением от Вашего творчества!!! Браво Маэстро!!!
I've just discovered this astounding piece of music. It's wonderful...and a spectacular display of peak virtuosity. The most gripping waltz I have ever heard. Bravissimo and thank you for sharing your wonderful, epic talent with us. This piece promises a lot and gives so much more than you were expecting. You think it's kinda over then the finale hits you like a thump. Totally from the heart 👏👏👏....for me, there is a slur that touches the first note and goes all the way to the last note. The tension builds throughout the piece. Wow 🌹
I listened to this throughout me entire piano performance degree.. and would show this to my friends as if I have found an absolute goldmine with thousands of priceless gems. I almost even tackled this piece my junior year (I got really intimidated and moved to another piece LOL) I think this recording is a standard of performance that every performer should aim for. The technique really leaves me breathless! Even the beginning with these huge RH chords and how you seamlessly make the melody smooth and beautiful... WOW! I hope one day (after much reading) I can actually tackle this piece. If you could ever give a young pianist any advice, what would it be? I don't care to be famous or rich as a pianist/performer/composer. Being able to perform at such capacity like this would be endless riches for me. I just don't know how you did it!
I just keep listening to this piece over and over again, it is absolutely astonishing and beautiful. It makes me feel so many emotions and this is by far my favorite video of it being played, perfection is all I hear in this piece and its magnificent!!! I can't even put my feeling of this piece into full words ;-; I can't wait to go and play this myself
Thank you for your great arrangement. After listening to this , I immediately ordered the score. I’m looking forward to practicing this beautiful piece. I guess It will take years for me to master this valse but I will try. Thank you again.
A stunning transcription, up there with the very best, giving Pletnev a run for his money. And playing to match, in the grand Russian tradition. If I were to be allowed one tiny criticism it is that it seems to be a bit too relentlessly overpowering. But one could say that about many virtuoso transcriptions. The closing chord is very daring indeed.
BRAVO! I was absolutely blown away by that. 4 a.m. unable to sleep and I see a piece by Glinka pop up. "Glinka," I think, "I vaguely remember a piece by him in some random compilation of Romantic sheet music I have somewhere... worth a try." WOW! Not only was that, I think, the most functional Romantic waltz I've ever heard (in a very, very good way) but it was also an ridiculously excellent performance! Many thanks for recording this and putting it on here for a me to find :)
This is absolutely incredible. As a piano and composition student right now, I think it's really amazing how you developed such a fantastic piece reflecting back to styles of the past. It is a breath of fresh air compared to the avant-garde stuff I am regularly exposed to. Rachmaninoff, Liszt, and Ravel are my favorite composers (Glinka is also up there on my list), and it was really neat to see their styles blended in such a creative manner. The virtuosity was great but did not detract from the beauty of the piece. I hope to learn this soon!
Phenomenal playing. Am truly flabbergasted. Thank you so much for posting. Following the sheet music while listening makes one understand the marvellous musical and technical qualities of this extraordinary musician.
I am studying this piece right now and chose to do it whilst studying for the FTCL due to the fact that it will help me in the other masterpieces I chose to do for my exam. I can feel pain, anger but at the same time It's melancholic sound makes me feel happy (hard to explain) - Such a beautiful piece that it transports me to another place. Can't wait to be able to play it at least half as good as this recording. Classical Music is my true passion even though it will not make me rich or famous but being able to perform pieces like these at such capacity would make me the happiest man in the world and would make me feel as though i won a million bucks! Wish me Luck :)

I'm fairly sure the DNA of Lizst and Rachmaninov was spliced together to make this
But M.Glinka might not. Taking out essence of this piece. Call it Paraphrase on Valse-Fantasy. Good pianist distorted original
