- In today's video I unbox four different boxes sent in from some of you out there. There turned out to be some great stuff inside them including two different locomotives (One with sound), a "Chef-Boyardee" box car by TYCO and many other small items. I'd like to thank Paul, Tomy, David (DB Tech and David "Zed" to G for sending all this.
Glad to see that you like the ALCO C420. It's my favorite local locomotive from Northeast Pennsylvania. I know you've seen the real deal at Steamtown and thought you'd like to have the "Pocono Mountain Route" for the layout.
Nice to see what other viewers/subscribers sent along as well. I see DB Tech has been to Harbor Freight. That Varney information will be useful. Nice switcher -- I'm sure you'll get her riding the rails once again.

Great video and I'm glad you enjoy what I sent. Once again, out done by David Z! That's a really sweet engine. That Lima should run great when you get it fixed. Thats a Beautiful atlas locomotive its awesome. That chef boyardee car is pretty neat! Ahh the famous Harbor Freight tools they are good priced tools and they do the job. Sweet baby rays BBQ sauce is very good! That Led project is basically what I have schematics for so i can put an LED in my locomotives that way they draw less power and the gain is less heat. Them varney instructions they are rare to see i never seen them. That lima steamer is really nice.
I was going to comment about Harbor Freight. Their store here in Burbank almost knows me on a first name basis!!! And for your reasons - good tools which do the job and at great prices.
@@antonbruce1241 yeah when one opened up 10 miles from me i was like oh yay. From grease to soldering iron wire cutter etc its all good some stuff is walmart or whatever. Depends on what i need .
Sounds like a great place. We don't have those here but we have Princess Auto which sounds like pretty much the same kind of store.
C420 is from the most recent run of these, announced March 2018 but they didn't actually show up until December 2019. You can look up on the Atlas website under Archive what the pricing was. Knock off about 25%-30% for what they actually sold for.
Delaware-Lackawanna is GVT's operation out of Scranton on primarily the former DL&W mainline going east, plus portions of the original D&H mainline and some other various branches. DL 405 was built in 1964 as Lehigh Valley 405, going to the Delaware & Hudson in 1976 and Indiana Hi-Rail in 1987. GVT bought it in 2005.
The models are nice, I have nine of them so far, six Lehigh Valley, two N&W high hood, and one SCL I found stupid cheap at a show. I almost bought another one today at a show, guy had a DCC sound one for a cheap price. But the C420 is probably my favorite locomotive.

I live in Scranton and actually the 405 is currently in storage with its sister Lehigh valley 414
I inherited one of those 0-4-0 switchers from the 1960s and they are amazingly strong engines. I used to tow consists so long that not even my numerous diesels or steamers made in the last 15 years or so could compare. Sadly it died out for some reason, I think a wire became disattached for some reason, so I threw it away. Then I got into O Gauge...which while I love it I also regret because of how hard it is to fit stuff into a layout and the sheer price of locomotives, track, accessories, rolling stock, and transformers.
Really cool stuff SMT, never saw a Chef Boyardee boxcar before! If that Atls C420 is equipped with what I think it is, which would ESU Loksound, it should share some of the same main functions as my Intermountain and Scaletrains locomotives which would as follows:
F0: Forward/Reverse headlight
F1: bell
F2: horn
F3: coupler
F4: dynamic brake (locomotive must be moving to engage this effect)
F5: numberboard lights
F6: I assume will be auxiliary lights (ditch lights, class lights, etc.)
F7: headlight dimmer (aka Rule 17 lighting)
F8: starts up the prime mover sounds, press again to shut down prime mover sounds
F9: drive hold (this mode allows you to change the engine rpms independently of the train speed)
F10: Independent brake
Again, I'm going by the assumption that your locomotive is equipped with ESU Loksound, if so hope this helps also you can change the horn and bell if you so desire!
I think you're correct. I just haven't worked with something this fancy before.
@@SMTMainline I hear ya, I'm still trying to figure out all the functions on my locomotives, the current ESU Loksound and Soundtraxx decoders work a little differently than decoders from 5 or 10 years ago and it can be easy to get thrown for a loop.

SMT, I think you should ask some manufactures for some samples that you could review. You have the perfect voice, and you'd get free stuff!
It's not a bad idea but I don't think too many manufacturers are interested in my channel for a few reasons, haha.

I don't know when your birthday is/was but Happy Birthday. What a haul in the mail. Wow and that locomotive is incredibly awesome. What a great gift. Loved seeing it run and hearing the sounds The Chef-Boy-R-Dee car is so cool. Not trying to make light of the other gifts by any means. I don't remember that version of Chef Boy- Ar -Dee in TYCO. I bought one in yellow by BACHMANN. Nice gifts always enjoy watching..🙂
Nice haul as always! Love that DLW C420-I saw them working the yard when I went to Steamtown many years ago and it was pure joy seeing those old Alcos in action!
Never in my life did I think I would freak out about a train video, but when I saw Delaware Lackawanna on the side I got more excited than my 3yo. He listens to the old Puff n’ Toot vinyl record at least once a week, and if you know you know. Thanks for the videos! He asks for yours specifically.
I live in Northeast Pennsylvania and whenever I visit the Steamtown National Historic Site or the Steamtown Mall I always see that engine every time.
Hello Harrison, your new loco might have a loksound decoder. F8 will be engine shut down and startup. F8 will Mum while. It is running.

That Atlas model probably has an ESU Lok sound decoder. That is indeed the startup on F8.

PPS F8 is engine startup and shut down. that's a DCC standard on the newer locos.

Yo Harrison, I think your used to bachmann and athearn sound products. The way your DL ALCO C420 is the standard way of doing it. F8 turns the prime mover on, when pressed again its shutdowns the prime mover

About damn time you get an engine with ESU Loksound. F8 is the standard start/stop button on ESU decoders. Great stuff!
Yeah I have an atlas loco like that and it makes those sounds, you need to enter F8 or something like that to make it do idling sounds I was wondering the same thing too when I got mine
Apparently the locomotive needs to be started which is a feature I've never worked with before.

Awesome C420! F8 is usually sound on/off for Atlas and others. There is some DCC programming you can do I think to have sound set to auto-on when it first receives power.

Happy birthday, and a question, have you thought of making your own Hershey's rolling stock, or an addition to the SMT consist, like a locomotive?
Several manufacturers have made Hershey locomotives and cars so I already have some. It's a good idea though.
The alco 420 is one of my favorites, I was lucky enough to see one at the chyohuga valle in Ohio ( I probly messed that up) ALCO POWA!!!!!!

The ESU lok sound V5 that The C420 has is fun because of all the functions they have and F8 starts it and shuts it down or mutes it

that's not an issue atlas locos have esu decoders which are muted by default and start up with f8. I have some rapid and scale trains locos that do it the same way so there's nothing u need to fix.
I have that same C420 and the Monon C420. Atlas Master Gold are great locomotives ( I don't care for their "Classic" line, too noisy).

Usually locomotives of that age just need a good cleaning and fresh lubricant added.

I'm with the one guy that's DCC f8 is startup and then you run it and then when you're ready to shut it off you press f8 again and it shuts down very nice locomotive

All stuff people send in gets added to the collection. Any of it I don't need gets given away (For free). Some of the stuff out of lots I buy gets sold to my local train store.

@@PlasticMoviesWithToySoldiers They aren't the bet runners, with only 4 wheels they tend to lose power easily but they rarely bite the dust. With very little in terms of moving parts they are hard to brick.
