Some info on UP 4005, it still exists currently at the Forney Transportation Museum in Denver Colorado. It was also the only Big Boy that was wrecked in 1953, unfortunately killing the engineer and fireman, the brakeman died later due to burn injuries.
That is one cool Rivarossi smt! down here in California I have actually took an excursion ride on U.P. Big boy 4014 the LAST steam train to still run under its own power there are only 8 left in existence! It recently traveled the country to celebrate 150 years of the railroad being constructed!

I like your hobby. Hey I have some thing to tell you I have a hobby too. Your trains are so cool I am a big fan of you and the tools you had in the box help you fix the broken trains it could help you.
I have an identical AHM Big Boy in an identical box that I bought in the 70's when I lived in Sacramento, CA. While good looking, It has never run well, just like the AHM SP Cab Forward and Santa Fe Y6b (2-8-8-2) that I bought around the same time. If I ever build a layout, all three are candidates for a railroad museum siding or park displays.
If Harrison does a video on maintaining his new Big Boy, watch it. He's a very talented and quite intelligent re-furbisher of locos, and just watching him you could probably learn to make yours better runners. He's taught ME a thing or two!!
Harrison, first, congratulations on your graduation! Peeps! My Mother loved Peeps. But . . . she would poke a hole in the package which would allow the Peeps to dry and harden. She liked them crunchy. Peeps do not exist on my edible items list. Nor do Pop Tarts. Great. Let's sugar-up Harrison on camera. David, you are quite the individual. Extraordinarily generous. Although difficult to see, I suspect that following the unboxing of the Big Boy Harrison was shaking with excitement. All of us would! And she runs. Really, really nice. Might need just a little SMT lubrication maintenance magic but what a beautiful locomotive and special gift. Harrison, if the opportunity EVER presents get yourself wherever UP is running the 4014. Just standing near a 600 ton locomotive is beyond awesome. Then listen to that dragon breathe. It brings the model to life. What a great box from David. Be cautious. Be safe. Be well. - P -
In our family, we liked the Peeps to get a bit rubbery, not hard, but definitely not soft. We discovered it when my sister opened up a carton of them and left them out of the plastic bag she should have put them back in when she was done.
Awesome video, Harrison! Really cool of David to send you the Riverrasi Big Boy! I tended up a little when you started running it because I thought it was going to side swipe your commuter coaches there for a minute, lol!
the big boy is the same exact one that I got from my dad for Christmas, same number as well. if you think it looks nice running by its self, you really need to see how beautiful it looks when pulling passenger cars. from one 'big boy' owner to another, i hope you enjoy running it, at any speed or what ever they are pulling, they look great running!

I had to go back and find this video because I visited Big Boy 4004 today. Until you stand next to one of these locomotives, it's hard to comprehend how truly massive they are. It's easy to see why the Big Boy has such a following, it really is a marvel of engineering.

Hey! I’ve subscribed a little ago and so far I am a big fan. Im a teen myself with the hobby of model trains HO scale. I love to learn a lot about types of locos (types and names are still a little fresh). And I love the office so I loved the reference at the end
Tip for the old rivarossi steam engines: the tender usually picks up the power and through a metal pin and wire transfers it to the locomotive. this causes the connection to not always be stable. it runs great for an old rivarossi, and the only thing is the method of power transfer.
One could always solder a wire directly from the tender to the loco, thus making the connection a lot more stable. Use stranded, not solid wire. This would allow it to be more flexible. And if you can, use black insulated wire. Matches the loco better.
Anton Bruce It doesn’t need to be soldered with just a single wire, if you want to be able to separate the tender. A (small) plug allows the link to be broken, as needed.
