  • Can Marijuana Cause Psychosis or Schizophrenia?
This question inflames a lot of people.
But with cannabis legalization sweeping the land, open-minded people should seriously consider the possibility that long-term cannabis use might harm at least a few people with vulnerable nervous systems.
Symptoms of psychosis represent one of the well-known short-term effects of cannabis. This was talked about openly amongst cannabis users over the course of many decades. Saying the pot causes some people to experience psychosis is not a controversial statement.
It’s also not controversial to point out that regular marijuana users are significantly more likely to have a diagnosis of schizophrenia than people who don’t use marijuana. This has been demonstrated many, many times.
This lecture makes the case that a causal relationship (the protracted cannabis use being the cause of increased schizophrenia risk) is likely.
This lecture is part of Northeast Ohio University's education(+)consultation service, SZconsult. A PowerPoint file for this lecture is available at szconsult.org/

It doesn't help that weed has been altered and changed, scientist have spent years genetically engineering them in labs, and now they have insane levels of THC, weed is supposed to have a certain amount of CBD in order to counteract the negative effects THC can have, but now its like they almost completely remove the CBD and now your basically smoking very high levels of pure thc... I've seen weed with almost 100% THC content. The weed of today is not the same as it used to be...

my eldest son (18) has had 5 psychotic breakdowns since Oct '21. he's currently on olanzapine, but he's still smoking - despite the significant negative outcomes. His grandfather's brother was schizophrenic; i fully expect that he's on his way to full-blown schizophrenia. it breaks my heart...but there's absolutely NOTHING that i, as his parent, can do. he's made his choice and he will have to face the consequences of that choice.

Trust me it's not as harmless as people would have you believe it's caused my wife to have psychotic delusions which led to hospitalization in the psychiatric ward 5 times now over 20 years but for whatever reason I cannot get her to stay away from the shit and now Justin Trudeau has made it legal in Canada and there is a weed shop on every corner which makes our lives even tougher it's an ongoing battle that me and the kids have to endure

I used to smoke weed every day throughout all of highschool I stopped smoking about half a year ago and recently tried it and it was not pleasent. I immediatly started overthinking as soon as it set in and had familiar voices in my head saying I will be like this forever and this went on until I had to listen to music or something and really focus hard on good thoughts to eventually fall asleep. Not smoking ever again.

stay away from any form of cannabis even CBD. There is no way to know how much cbd a so called cbd has. All cbd oils have some THC it's impossible to separate those two. Why to spiral into psychosis. Better stay the fuck away. It's your sanity you talking about don't play with it.

This is truer today than in the past, due to current marijuana being hybridized to contain much higher levels of THC.
I believe moderate use with low levels of THC, would be beneficial. Like most things, in excess use, will have a negative effect.

Last night I had a massive psychosis after taking 3/4 drags of marijuana with a friend and I am not a regular smoker, had it after 2years. I had the strongest scariest night! And today again a little after some coffee. So I guess I'm still recovering from it... The experience bought me here and marijuana is a massive problem on the planet. I feel I might be an undiagnosed schizophrenic now after reflecting on my whole life.

How do you even regulate something like this which can be safely used by fully grown adults of all backgrounds? considering the unpredictable nature of cannabis varieties that differ from strain to strain? i have a history of psychosis, aspergers syndrome, and psychotic disorder- nos, have smoked in moderation and then decided to quit the experimentation.

Won't cbd counteract the suppression of anti-inflammatory functions in the brain? Thc and cbd seem to be a ying and yang for various things, one being intraocular eye pressure. Not sure about brain inflammation, but cbd does seem to be a pretty good anti inflammatory.
I bring this up because certain methods of consumption like sublingual oil with a 1:1 ratio of thc and cbd seem to be safer not only because you're not inhaling smoke but also there can be equal balance of cbd and thc instead of the much higher concentration of thc in normal cannabis for smoking (12-30%) compared to CBD amount (1-4%)

I've been using marijuana since I've been young. Now some strians will bring on psychosis, not all.
But I also have psychosis when I'm not high, I do not think its the pot. It must be in the water.

pure CBD without any thc is antipsychotic especially from a regular marijuana user. most mental illness or drug use is coping from trauma or PTSD. especially cptsd from narcistic abuse syndrome from sick parents

Was diagnosed with drug induced psychosis and bipolar affective disorder about 20 years ago, it lasted about 3 weeks with manic symptoms, no hallucinations, never had an episode since, I'm 38 now , and I'm suffering from stress related insomnia, tried anti anxiety meds for years and devoloped a habit for Klonopin, I've smoked weed about 4 times since with no problem, but I'm scared of increasing the use of it , the video talks about augmentation of 3x of a manic episode or psychosis but what's the baseline? Does it jump from 10% to 30% chance in any given time? If I roll the dice I want to know my chances. Thanks for your replies much appreciated

I need help. I’ve been smoking weed for years on and off. This time around, it’s been 3 years. I have been smoking pretty much 24/7 for 3 entire years straight, not a day break. That’s a fact. My situation is a lot more complicated but I know I need to cut down before as my usage is so high it’s a full blown addiction with nasty withdrawals. And that’s coming from a heroin addict in recovery.... I have been told to go on the oil. It’s just how do I actually do this that’s right for my situation? Doesn’t help I’m home all the time. And have nothing to do as I’m far too sick to leave my house. So it helps staying sane. Yet it’s made me insane. Being sober drives me insane. Because it hurts to be alive. Yes I know, I need therapy better diet etc... I’ve honestly just given up with everything. With life. I don’t care anymore. But i’d like to not be so sick, so I need to stop smoking bongs ASAP. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Peace ✌️
