Vassar was too humble to receive all the accolades. Greatest fiddle player of his generation. John Hartford was no slouch either and the fiddle wasn't even his main instrument ! Then theres Sam Bush...what a group!
Vassar and John, Mike and Sam. It doesn't get any better than this. A great tune. Vassar was the master of improvised melody. He rarely played the same notes twice in a tune. Norman was the same way. Great stuff !!
I made the trip down the pike at the behest of my pal Pieman, Tony Amenta and Phreshie(as always at the Vault). Security literally certainly into our box. They came and went. They knew and for that I and all bluegrass fans are thankful.
Nothing in contemporary pop can match these gems .....
Ain't NOBODY could play like Vassar!
quite a piece of history here
These fellers are having an amazing musical conversation! Feel the love.
Holy cow! Two of the best fiddle players ever!

Vassar Clements, oh my! Age 72 and playing like the genius he was.
God bless both of these gentlemen. I wish they could realize the joy theyve brought so many people.
This is GREAT. But I have to say, you should have been there ! I am lucky I was !
Vassar. Nuff said. The fiddle speaks.
How I wish I was there!!🎵🌈🎵

Looks like a young Chris Eldridge (Punch Bros & Live From Here)
on guitar

And so Charlie Daniels joins Vassar and John to play this tune in perpetuity....
Those fiddles don't seem Lonesome at all.
Jjl
Aha! Now I know where Charlie Daniels stole "The Devil Went Down to Georgia".
Likely one of John's last performances as he died less than 7 months later.
