  • The Voisin L-series bombers, also known as the types I to XI, were a series of light bombers and ground attack aircraft that saw service from 1914 through 1918 during World War 1. This is their story.

      Very glad it helped. What kind of school project requires a knowledge of aircraft from over 100 years ago?

      @@Forgotten_Aviation i'm 75. when i was 14 we had a black and white tv. 3 channels. i'd wait weeks til 3:30 on a sunday there would be a show like airpower and if you missed the time nothing. your content was beyond my wildest dreams. i made model airplanes. joined air cadets at 14. took a 2 year aircraft course in high school. got a private pilots licence no longer valid but i had 72 hours on 65 hp. aeronka, cessna 172, piper colt. even tried to join the airforce to be a fighter pilot but failed the exam. perhaps for the best. i really enjoy your shows. thank you take care gare

      @@garychynne1377 It wasn't around when I was 14 either, but I do remember what TV was like in the 70s. The documentaries I remember from my childhood were The World at War, and anything by David Attenborough.

    i have been so much interested in WW1 aviation. There has hardly been a dedicated youtube channel. Glad I find it now.
    I am mainly interested in strategic bombing in WW1, a forgotten subject. Looking forward to see videos on Handley Page O/100, O/400, V1500, Vickers Vimy, Airco DH4, DH9, DH9A, Gotha bombers, giants, Caproni Ca3 etc. And may be Ilya Muromets and some French bombers of that era too.
    I am a pilot too, based in UK. If I get a chance to fly any WW1 replica, will make a video and share.

    I may be mistaken, but I recall seeing a picture of a Voisin 3 fitted with Le Prieur rockets for balloon attack. I do recall laughing at the sight.

    given what happened when the Hurricane was fitted with 40mm cannons in WW2,
    what was firing a 47mm in a much flimsier crate like? It must have pretty much stopped it mid-air.
    I imagine repairs were a constant

    • @Forgotten_Aviation
      @Forgotten_Aviation  3 года назад

      Well, if I recall correctly, they were stripped down Hotchkiss rotating cannon, so the rate of fire was low. The guns themselves were heavy, plus they were relatively low performance, so recoil wouldn't have been so bad.

      @@Forgotten_Aviation well...they obviously kept flying them, but I'm pretty sure there were some brown undies the first couple of times
