Thanks Simon--I started using the London system several months ago. I, of course, have had some losses but have also had more wins. I want to learn much more about the system.
The "very worrying picture" and your delivery never fail to crack me up. Moreover, I've since picked up this opening and can only speak good things of it. Bringing the bishop out of the pawn chain just makes so much sense and makes this opening fairly straight forward to play.
Awesome video! Started playing the London System when you posted your first video on it last month and I really like it. I'm only winning about 50% of my games with it right now but I'm also a beginner. Can't wait for the next video and the DVD to add to my complete GingerGM collection!
GingerGM is simply the Best Opening Instructor ever! Very nicely done video! And yes, I have bought the London DVD. Eagerly waiting to download when it is ready to be released tomorrow! Great Job! Hope to have more of such series!
11:25 Rule 1: Against g6 play Nc3. 14:03 Rule 2: Play e3 and h4!? 17:22 Rule 2: Play e3 and h4!? 19:28 Rule 3: Meet.....c5 with Nb5! 20:53 Rule 4: Use the e5 square.
Very exciting and interesting. Will really help to deal with the London System which casts a dismal shadow over OTB games... but defeating this dreary opening is a very instructive process, so thanks for sharing this interesting material ,
I've been playing the London System for a couple months now, and you're right, I do have great fun playing lines with 4. e4. Subbed and going to give the dee-vay-dee a shot.
Seems like it. After Nb5 black is forced to castle to avoid a rook fork after Nxc7. However after castle, white can attack with the bishop instead, getting the pawn for free with tempo because it also threatens the queen. Queen only has one escape because the first knight move blocked her other exit, a pretty terrible position for her to develop to. From there it's overall a pretty bad state for black and the disadvantages will only multiply.
Thanks Simon for taking the time to make these. As soon as I can I will definitely purchase your Chessbase DVD on this system. On a more important note, what is your favorite beer at the pub? (I know free is best, but I'm looking for a bit more detail)...Cheers!
I'm now subscribed- your work Is great and very much appreciated! I'm 51 and able to follow the basic thoughts- my 8 year old daughter also enjoys this series- I think a knighthood cant be far off (Americans don't really understand that system either so while I feel like calling you sir I could way off on the knighthood)- regardless thanks for the hard work!
Hi Simon, just tried to get back into chess and the London System again and your videos were so enjoyable and informative. I couldn't find your third video in the series, nor your DVD on the London System, and am waiting with bated breath for both (if they're not already up.) Much love.
You deserve more subs. I really love your Vids. Id love to see your premium guide but im still a student and cant afford it. Thank you it help me a lot.
You do a brilliant job giving lower level players, such as myself, easy rules to live by when approaching an opening. I never really liked D4 openings, but after watching your videos on the London system I have won many games with it. Thanks! Any chance of doing some easy rules to live by for the English opening?
great work, Simon. The London System is not something I worry about while playing as Black because it is relatively easy to achieve a draw position in the middlegame. As the saying goes "Win as White, Draw as Black."
Simon, can't wait for the chess base video. lol was hoping it was coming sooner. Treat to hear you Will have some on chess.com. I really like rule 3 about nb5. I used to play the Barry attack but c5 vs it seemed pretty good for it. haha as I watched this I was thinking of you would get to c5 and there it was. Thanks Simon
hi Simon great videos. i am playing the London. will you considering get game from subscribers and comment on them. i know they may not good but with your input it may help a lot of people
Do you have a good way to find these London Game examples from top players? There are many different ECO codes that they hide under? Often when I play the London, the computer categorizes it as the Queen's Pawn: Mason Attack (because I play Bf4 before Nf3?) or just Indian Game.
What about the white king when black plays with c5 and white continues with Nb5 and a4 ? Does he remain in the center of the board ? Or castle short eventually ? Thanks ! Great video ! P.S.: I guess when black goes for a6 and delays castle and we have the plan with Ne5 and g4 in the long run, white may castle queenside, but in the first case it doesn't look too safe for the white king to go there...
you are right, delaying castling with white in the london is a common theme. sometimes u dont even castle at all. it is quite flexible in that sense. remember, the goal of the opening is not always to castle, it is to make sure your king is safe. in not all cases this means castling, sometimes the middle of the board is a safe place for the king.
In the line where White plays e3 and h4 and Black plays ...Nd7 instead of castling, Simon calls it a losing blunder and doesn't bother to elaborate. Man, I feel stupid because I don't see the win! No snap mate in 2 or a piece dropping off that I can find- is it just one of those positions where White is so active that with 'proper play' he should have no trouble eventually winning?
What about against the dutch? I play 1. e4 to avoid playing against the dutch because its what i play as black against 1. d4 and it always seems to give black a decent advantage. Is the london worth the risk of facing the dutch?
Bums on a Boat the Dutch is strategically risky. Practically it can yield good chances for an imbalance but the Dutch isn't popular at top levels because there are a lot of ways to exploit black's setups
5:01 rule 1: meet g6 with Nc3
6:00 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7
11:47 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 g6 3. Nc3 d5
13:25 rule 2: against d5 play e3 and h4
14:20 4. e3 Bg7 5. h4 O-O
18:00 4. e3 Bg7 5. h4 a6
19:04 4. e3 Bg7 5. h4 c5
19:20 rule 3: meet c5 with Nb5
Thanks for the summary Jason.
I felt so good when you said: "Who knows me knows what i'm gonna move" and then you said: "C'mon, Harry!" I knew it! :)
Amazing explanation, amazing humour, definitely a must watch for Londoneers.
Best chess coach I've ever found in 40 yrs! Thx again...loyal customer. :)
Thanks Simon--I started using the London system several months ago. I, of course, have had some losses but have also had more wins. I want to learn much more about the system.
These three videos are gold. I am preparing for a tournament and I have been enjoying the process too much! :)

your guideline is awesome. please do more videos on london system opening. please!!!
GingerGM is an awesome teacher.
11:25 Rule 1: Against g6 play Nc3.
14:03 Rule 2: Play e3 and h4!?
17:22 Rule 2: Play e3 and h4!?
19:28 Rule 3: Meet.....c5 with Nb5!
20:53 Rule 4: Use the e5 square.
Very nice, sir! Just a request: could you discuss the line : 2... b6?
Thanks Simon, love your presentation -very concise and watchable.
This London series is such a gem, thanks!
Very exciting and interesting. Will really help to deal with the London System which casts a dismal shadow over OTB games... but defeating this dreary opening is a very instructive process, so thanks for sharing this interesting material ,
you are not only a nice person, you are beside this a very good teacher
I've been playing the London System for a couple months now, and you're right, I do have great fun playing lines with 4. e4. Subbed and going to give the dee-vay-dee a shot.
At 17:53 I'm not sure but i think the reason Nd7 is a blunder is because of the move Nb5?
Correct! Black has to do something desperate like throwing e5 in front of the bishop, but even that doesn't help because of dxe5 followed by e6.
Thanks for the video Simon! I started playing the London System because of your recent videos!!

Another fantastic instructive video! Thanks, Simon
Excellent explanation.Congratulations GM!
Love it, Simon! Thanks a lot....Loads of people play this against me :)

Going to use this for the frst time tonight in a OTB tournament!! Great info on your channel mate, much appreciated.
You deserve more subs. I really love your Vids. Id love to see your premium guide but im still a student and cant afford it. Thank you it help me a lot.

Thank you Simon - I love the London System and hope your DVD will come soon on chessbase!
Great video, thumbs up for the Improved 150 Attack (3. Nc3 Bg7?! 4. e4), thumbs up for meeting c5 with Nb5!
You do a brilliant job giving lower level players, such as myself, easy rules to live by when approaching an opening. At 17:52 Why is Knight to D3 a blunder? I'm very new to chess, so sorry if it's a dumb question.
Rule 1: Against g6 play Nc3.
Rule 2: Play e3 and h4!?
Rule 3: Meet.....c5 with Nb5!
Rule 4: Use the e5 square.
Thanks my ginga!
thats what i was looking for :D
S
Why it is so important for people
great work, Simon. The London System is not something I worry about while playing as Black because it is relatively easy to achieve a draw position in the middlegame. As the saying goes "Win as White, Draw as Black."
It used to be that way, but he's showing new attacking ideas that don't make it a drawn middlegame. Keep thinking that way though!
Thank you Simon. Your tutorials help me a lot. I could beat some stronger players like 1700 elo with London system!
And man I'm laaaazzzzzy :))
Thanks Simon! great video
Thank you so much Simon!
I recently played in the North American Open U1900 and I won every game as white with this system and got first place!
Eeswar?
You should send Simon some of your winnings.
may i know who r u???

Nice. Any additional readings you recommend, onto ideas and traps maybe? Also, what do you prefer to play as black?
I love this series. Thank you Simon!!
great analysis! ill get the DVD soon love this opening
Simon, can't wait for the chess base video. lol was hoping it was coming sooner. Treat to hear you Will have some on chess.com. I really like rule 3 about nb5. Great explanation on a great practical system
Hey, great lessons. Do you have the link to the first lesson on the London system?
Great videos! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Where is the filmed game against John Bartholomew? If you don't have plans of uploading it, please tell me, thanks Simon
hi Simon great videos. i am playing the London. will you considering get game from subscribers and comment on them. i know they may not good but with your input it may help a lot of people
Great video- and nicely explained-thank you
Still no third video, Simon? Oh, sorry. I didn't notice you still have your finger in there. The first two are good. Thanks.
"Push Harry to the max!" (06:55)
I loughed ... this is subliminal, how could you ever forget!?
17:55 Nb5 and c7 cant be defended
thanks
what if Black plays Rb8 ?
Good lecture many thanks GMSimon
I started to hear this videos from a friend.. I would like to learn more of London Moves..
Thank you for this and ALL your videos. This really helped me counter that fiancetto opening when using the London system!
Any video coming up on the London System move orders when Black plays Dutch, Pirc or e6 defences?
very pedagogic Mister Ginger GM .
Stream more Simon!
Simon! Great job as usual. I have your vids on the Dutch and French. Can't find the London series?
stay in london.....eat in london .....and play too london.....thats what i recommend after seeing this video....its fab!!!!
Great video, what happens on c6? A slav set up? I have trouble against that system.
What about the idea of e6... or c6 followed by Q c7 and then look to the e5 push as black, newer idea in the pirc/modern
THanks Gm Simon! I learned a lot!
great stuff, Simon
Just watched this vid as prep for my next game as white. Thx Pappa Harry!
Do you have a good way to find these London Game examples from top players? There are many different ECO codes that they hide under? Often when I play the London, the computer categorizes it as the Queen's Pawn: Mason Attack (because I play Bf4 before Nf3?) or just Indian Game.
Best of London System
when is the 3rd video on the london coming out?
Really helpful videos, thanks.
when is the 3rd video scheduled?
When is the third Video coming out?
20:54 "Very. Worrying. Pitcha."
great! it's just too instructive! i really doing great with this video!
Thanks, great intro
What about the white king when black plays with c5 and white continues with Nb5 and a4 ? Does he remain in the center of the board ? Or castle short eventually ? Thanks ! Great video ! "Push Harry to the max" looool :)))
At 19.40. I always get hit with Queen a5+ and I have to retreat the knight to the previous position or lose it . And thereby losing a tempo?
If you wouldn't mind some criticism, I'm not sure if the rule format is ideal, rather than just procedural instructions. Or maybe that's just me.
is this the Barry Attack?
Great to watch ,witty :)
What happened to the chess.com videos on the london system? I'm a premium member, but I can't find them...
Simon, these videos are fantastic but I can't help feel that it's all I need to know to play the system at club level. What extras will be in the DVD?
Well explained. Thank you.
What do you do after c6 and b5 instead of Pc6
Its also against pirc defence?
In the line where White plays e3 and h4 and Black plays ...Nd7 instead of castling, Simon calls it a losing blunder and doesn't bother to elaborate. Man, I feel stupid because I don't see the win! No snap mate in 2 or a piece dropping off that I can find- is it just one of those positions where White is so active that with 'proper play' he should have no trouble eventually winning?
Nb5
Ah yes, cannot defend c7 then.
Thanks i didn't work it out either
How about black's bishop move to g4 ?
What about against the dutch? I play 1. e4 to avoid playing against the dutch because its what i play as black against 1. d4 and it always seems to give black a decent advantage. Is the london worth the risk of facing the dutch?
Bums on a Boat the Dutch is strategically risky. Practically it can yield good chances for an imbalance but the Dutch isn't popular at top levels because there are a lot of ways to exploit black's setups
hmm...thank you for your response. I have noticed simon is the only GM I've seen playing it. at my rank (1800 in rapid chess it seems to work out ok.)
Maybe 1.d4 f5 2.Nc3, trying to prepare e4. But there is also 1.d4 e6 (Simon's way of getting a Dutch) 2.Bf4 f5 to consider...
Carlsen plays the Dutch
Carlsen plays everything. Also Carlsen is Carlsen.
can someone send me the link to the first part of this video
What about the Dutch!?
Queen side casteling
is 2 Bg5 the move order of london system???
You are an awesome tutor
ive been crushing with this
