I have always locked my door, but unfortunately one day I forgot and when I came up from the laundry room a man was sitting at my table drinking my tea. Luckily he was happy just kicking me out and I went to the neighbours and we called the cops. The cops went over and found out he was very drunk and had stopped at my house, a block too early. The cops took him home and his wife tucked him into bed. A week later the man and his wife showed up with a dozen roses and a big apology. I have not forgotten since.

This happened with my neighbours too. We lived in six apts above a business. One neighbour came home extremely drunk and entered another neighbour's apt that just so happened to be unlocked. Of course she was shocked, he apologized and got to his own. Turns out, he used to live in the victim's apt. Dumb move but no ill intent, just stupid drunk. She did move.

We also live on a quiet, dead-end road and we've never had any robberies in the area, but even so, I guess you just never know when something like this could happen. But again, when someone is that determined, they'll find a way in anyway. Just very sad and scary. I really hope he has people around him that help relieve some of that guilt, because it's awful for people to blame him.

I live in a safe area so I feel trapped if all the doors are locked. When I lived in the dangerous area I definitely saw that if people wanted in they would get in so all that security felt like security theater.

@@Mimi-hn6iv Ya but 1) making it harder decreases ur risk. 2) if they can’t simply open the door and walk in, that means they have to use an unconventional method of entering, aka breaking down a door or window, which would take them at least 30sec or more to do. That’s a whole 30secs of warning u have to go grab ur gun and call police. If they just walk right in, it doesn’t give u the chance to prepare to defend yourself. So we shouldn’t be telling ppl that locking their doors is pointless, bc it’s certainly not! She could easily be alive today if the door was locked 🤷‍♀️

Yes, stop leaving ur door unlocked!! The harder u make it for them the higher chances u have of them giving up and moving on to the next house. Breaking a door or window makes noise and draws attention, so a lot of them would move on once they discover all the doors are locked. Someone tried it at my house a few years ago, and they did exactly that. They moved on to the next house bc all my doors were locked. Most likely saved my life!!

There was a kid I went to school with who had VERY violent tendencies...he was 16 and beat a minor girl(who he was pregnant with his child...) with an aluminum baseball bat..she survived and he spent 10 months in jail..
He ended up dating another girl who went to the same school, she got pregnant and had the baby...she was out with a few friends one night in the mountains and he showed up with a gun...he tried getting into the truck she was in(jumped on the windshield) but she took off running and he shot her 2, once missed her and entered the ground next to her and the other was in her head...he left their 3 year old in hustling car all night in 30 weather.
He took a plea deal and got 80 years for the murder but they dropped the child endangerment charges..

These criminals had broken in and filmed themselves opening the families' presents and mocking the gifts. I can't remember if they killed everyone or what, I'm probably blocking that out lol. The police found the footage on the family's own camcorder. These two were geniuses 😂

I'm not sure that I could've forgiven someone for such a heinous act, even as a Christian. Hopefully Amanda's father and husband have truly worked through the anger and grief because if not, that will not be good for them either.

I genuinely want to know if there are people in countries other than America where people don't lock their doors. I'm so perplexed by this coming from South Africa, but I'm quite aware than where I'm from is quite dangerous and has high poverty rates.

I live in very safe Norway, BUT I always lock my doors. Even when I travel for work and stay at hotels I always lock the doors extra

In Russia we have 2 doors into our flats or homes. First is a metal door, second is usually wooden. For safety purposes and to keep the cold from getting into a home.
Not locking the door is crazy to me! I'm home - it's locked. I'm out - it's locked.....

I live in the Midwest in the US (actually the same state as Amanda and Davey lived in) and I leave my door unlocked all the time. I live in a smaller community and we just don’t have much crime here

I am from the south and now live in the Midwest. I have always locked my door. Always. I don't understand this false sense of comfort some people seem to have. I'm not saying this to down the husband, but I have seen several comments saying they don't lock their doors because they live in a low crime area. So do I, but anything can happen anywhere.

Thanks for sharing! I honestly thought it was going to be another pastor that cold bloodedly murdered his beautiful wife. I was relieved it wasn't her husband, the case itself is extremely sad and horrifying!! My heart goes out to her family, especially her son. 💔

This is so awful. Another example of why you have to watch the company you keep. Are thieves horrible? Absolutely. But that day thieves unknowingly went out with a murderer and for that they’re paying the price. RIP sweet mom and baby.

Where would the police go if the woman did call 911 and they were dispatched to the callers house? If the caller had no idea where the shots and scream came from, what exactly is the police going to do aside from taking a report?

Take her testimony and knock on the doors of everybody living on this street and possibly even enter the houses of people who didn't answer? They can do that when there is a reason to believe that someone's life is in danger. I know they did that when I heard male screams and banging on the doors one floor below my unit. Also they can ask other neighbors if they can better establish the direction of screams. It's always better to call then to live with guilt for the rest of your life.

Just simply go around the area. The killer was in the home for quite some time. And in the car on her driveway later
