    Nice looking timber, are they pre primed painted pine, hard to tell in the video. In the good old days we used liquid damproof added to the mortar, it seemed to work fine so long as the mortar was a stronger mix of about 4:1. These days though they insist on a membrane whether it be plastic or bitumen strip. But still use the liquid damproof in some non technical applications like retaining walls or parging on the back of retaining wall.

      Hi mate. Yere the pritty straight too. They not treated with anything. They don't bother over hear. Unless it's a old house with damp problems 👍👍👍

    Work looks good. I cant believe code allows for use of 4 inch block. Are the joists that are sitting on the block just sitting there ? Not tied in yet ? What ties those into the block?

    • @markhep
      @markhep  11 месяцев назад

      Cheers mate .yes they get built into the walls there was another story going on top so they got built in 👍👍👍

    Always love to see timbers going in. What hole size did you drill for the resin anchors? I always like the idea of drilling at least 4mm bigger hole than the bolt so I know I'm getting a good amount of resin around the anchor. Did you make sure to brush and blow out the holes, dust isn't going to create a good bond for the resin otherwise!

    • @markhep
      @markhep  Год назад

      Yere I always try to make them a little bigger nothing worse than hammering them in and messing up the thread 👍👍👍

    Looks good mate, how comes the joists aren't pressure treated? Plastic DPCs I suppose you could SBR slurry then under and over but we are bricklayers, get it up and get some weight on them 😁😁👍

    • @markhep
      @markhep  2 года назад

      Hi mate. They don't need to be. I would put dpc and treated joists in a old house. But you don't need to. 👍👍👍

    could you not put slate in for the DPC or is that a no no now ? im a roofer and have never seen how the DPC holds with and grip. i understands how it works but surley there is a better way.

    • @markhep
      @markhep  Год назад

      Hi mate we have to use dpc for the regs now. Yes it does not stick to anything. Just relays on the weight of the building. I think the same as you to be honest. They should have something else by now lol👍👍👍

  • @mattcartwright8272

    Hi Mark, making good progress there. How did you ensure the new joists are the same height as the existing? Or is there no access between the old and new at 1st floor level?

    • @markhep
      @markhep  2 года назад +1

      Hi matt. On this one floor hights are different levels and don't match. So we just had to go with the plans. Think it's because it's having a loft room to get the hight. So the new floor is lower 👍👍👍

    Aren't you supposed to blow those holes out before the resin?

    Does your building inspector ask you to wrap the joist ends with dpc?

    • @markhep
      @markhep  2 года назад +1

      Hi shaun. I never get asked to wrap them. But I know a few builders that do. But I don't sew the need unless it says use dpc then I would 👍👍👍
