    I switched to a DE/safety razor because of the infamous Gillette advertisement against mens, i bought Rapira supersteel because they aren't made by Gillette/Procter and Gamble and a friend of mine said they are very good. I paid 10€ for 100 blades.

    Usually I use polsilver or voskhod but I have just tried Sputnik for the first time in a moderately aggressive razor and found the Sputnik to be very sharp almost like a feather. They need a very light touch.!
    Thanks for the great review

    • @AKSBSU

      I've found Voskhod and Polsilver to be the best 2 razors I've tried from a sampler pack I've been running through. Polsilver definitely seems sharper than Voskhod, but I only need moderate sharpness (Derby and Shark were too dull, but the super sharp blades are overkill for me) to get down to the skin, so that doesn't benefit me at all. If anything, I'm more likely to get nicked by a sharper than necessary blade. The other big issue is Polsilver costs over 5x more than Voskhod here. Polsilver are superb blades, but they're sharper than necessary for me to get a super smooth shave and cost way more. If I had coarser facial hair, Polsilver would probably be my top choice. It's the only DE blade in the sharper tier that hasn't caused any irritation or burn. I'm was also very careful with it and haven't had any significant nicks so far. Astra SP is also pretty sharp but tended to leave a mild burn/ irritation. Consecutive days using Astra SP irritates my skin.

    Thanks for Video, I will try the Rapira Swedish Supersteel blades, if I like I will order 100 pack 😃.

    Those Rapiras in the red pack are amazing. Some came with my Razorock mission. They gave me a very comfortable smooth shave. I do get the occassional random nick with them but nothing a good splash of cold water doesn't close up in a few seconds. They are my number 2 blade behind Astra SP's I bought 100 pack of each. The Rapiras from Russia on Ebay were $10/100 SHIPPED! For that price I'm willing to really focus when I use them as I have managed several days now using them to not nick myself so I think they are just simply not as forgiving as the Astra that's all.
    For some reason and I'll chalk this up to having Russian friends I had the russian national anthem in my head when I was using them just felt right. Russia produces some very quality blades and the vintage 35mm camera lenses form Helios and Zenit are also of very high quality.

    Nice review. Thank you. Voskhod is my favorite blade. Nothing is finer in my razors. I have heard that it was pronounced Vos-hod, with the K silent. Some pronounce it Vosh-Kod. You seem to pronounce it Vos-Kod and I assume you would know by your accent. Mahalo!

    • @user-hv4ri5mo9e
      @user-hv4ri5mo9e  7 лет назад +1

      Billy Batts ye. There is only word "voshod" in russian language. Means "sunrise". Dont know where "k" came from. May be because of "sh"- its different sound.

    • @AKSBSU
      @AKSBSU 5 лет назад +1

      @@user-hv4ri5mo9e I see a lot of people online claiming a wide variety of pronunciations for this razor. The "k" has definitely been causing a lot of confusion for me. I don't know the language but try to learn the correct pronunciation for names.
      Voskhod are probably the best blades overall I've used so far. Polsilver are also superb, but they are sharper than what I need to get an extremely close shave and cost over 5x more per blade than Voskhod here in the US. 7 cents per blade and a similar caliber shave to Polsilver (at least for my facial hair and skin) is almost unbeatable.

    Great review. I agree, Voskhod are the best of these. The standard Rapira that come 10 per pack are terrible, though. I can barely use them. They're so dull and low quality. I also think you're underrating Ladas. I wasn't sure the first couple times, but after more use I really grew to like them. They're very aggressive, and very sharp, so when you want a really aggressive shave, they do well. After using several of them, I ended up ordering a 100 pack. Sputnik are really aggressive and really sharp, but cause a lot of irritation, just like you said. So I personally would never use them very often.

    Great review! But as you seem to know well about Russian blades and I'm wanting to try a Rapira blade, so I would like to have your opinion about the Rapira Platinum Lux. Considering the four Rapiras, in that scale of sharpness as you rated them in your video at 8:54, where would you put the "Platinum Lux" between these three Rapiras showed in your video? By the way, one of my safety razors is the Fatip open comb, exactly the same as yours. Thanks in advance! Greetings from Brazil!

      I actually bought 100 each of both Astra SP and Voskhod. Astra SP seemed to be a bit sharper but caused razor burn/ irritation with repeated use. 1 shave with Astra SP doesn't bother me, but daily use caused noticeable irritation. Voskhod doesn't seem quite as sharp but still gets down to the skin for me and has given me no nicks or razor burn at all. Voskhod seems superior unless you have really coarse facial hair or a thick beard.

    Yes, most Russian blades are excellent. But ASTRAs are not Russian, and they've never been Russian. They're Czech.
    It's interesting how individual the blades are. I find Voskhods very dull and irritating, whereas RAPIRA Platinum Lux are sharp and the best for me.
    It crucially depends on the safety razor one puts them in. I use two best razors in the world: the TAIGA and the EDWIN JAGGER 3ONE6.
