I hear a similar sound here on the mid coast of NSW at night. I am fairly sure it is a bird. I went out at night and came to the edge of the forest where it was coming from up in the trees. It could be a glider (a type of flying possum) but for me it is a nocturnal bird like a nightjar or owl.

Sugar gliders bark, yellow bellied gliders have a loud screaming call, Indigenous people called them "Hepoona roo." Apparently the thylacine, when hunting had a loud yip, yip call. Returned soldiers from the Boer War who had heard hyenas described the same sound. That's why some Vandemonians called them hyenas. That loud yip, yip I recall hearing while doing the South Coast Track twelve years ago, one night....pretty eerie! Loud.

  • @MR-ns8mp

It's a sugar glider, I live in bushland in northern Tasmania and hear and see them pretty regularly very late at night, their soft but persistent yipping sometimes waking me up when they're in the trees not far from my upstairs bedroom window.
I'm on the fence about wether the Thylacine is still around or not, I'm not convinced in either direction but I lean towards wanting to hold a bit of hope there's a feint possibility. I don't think it's helpful to be too adamant that they are or aren't extinct. Though I do find I tend to get a bit frustrated and amused the times people make oddly confident assertions out of ignorance about a place they've only made assumptions about.

Have you seen Cookie's more recent video about the Thylacine (or similar animal) maybe being in Papua New Guinea?
Apparently there are locals that claim to see them on a semi regular basis in a remote part of Papua New Guinea. Cookie showed that they were known to reside there at one point in time. Even if it isn't exactly a Thylacine but something similar, it would be amazing. I have trouble with all of the shaky photography, long distance video, etc. when it comes to the Thylacine. There are too many scammers and people wanting to fool other people. Unless we get real proof, it's all similar to Bigfoot. Hopefully, this Papua New Guinea thing will work out and humanity can make sure to preserve all animals in the future.

I was on a late night in the woods of Cannock Chase recently and heard , very close, a deep barking. I suspect deer rather than dog or fox because of the depth of the sound. If you Compare a terrier bark to an Alsatian bark you get where Im coming from . Of course I really hope it is a tazzie though.

The closest for sure living relative to the Tasmanian Tiger is the Tasmanian Devil. We know what the T Devil's sound like, so my guess would be that T Tigers sound similar but lower pitched.
Kind of like how many small dogs barks & growls are higher pitched versions of big dogs.

According to people that actually heard them way back in the day, the sounds to listen for are: howls, coughs, growls, yaps, husky coughing barks, terrier-like double yips, short wheezing coughs, and yipping sounds. Some of the sounds recorded over the years could be Tasmanian Devils, foxes or even just dogs, or like he said sugar gliders, but I do hold out hope that Thylacines still exist!

Not only did I hear what I believe was a thylacine just a couple weeks ago… but today I had one run in front of my vehicle. Witnessed by my girlfriend and I both. No bs!
It’s bark sounded scary in a hell- hound sorta way… scary enough that my girlfriend went into the house because she feared for her safety just from hearing the sound. It was almost a raspy growl like bark that was extremely loud.
We live in the middle of a national forest in the United States. In an area known as the old growth forest. Extremely thick and impassable.
When we saw the animal crossing road today it confirmed our suspicions.
If it’s not a thylacine then it was CLOSELY related . Don’t know if anyone believes us, and don’t really care.
Just feel blessed to have witnessed what we did.

I'm in the Pacific northwest of the U.S., you hear weird shit out in the woods all the time. Cougars, fox, bears, elk, especially at night you hear very strange cries and howls. Plus a lot of other factors, like the topography and temp effecting the acoustics. Could be a fox that got his little gonads twisted and hit notes he didn't know he could. And they are all a potential Bigfoot to somebody around here. I wouldn't knock anyone hunting samsquanche. If they have fun more power to them. I feel somewhat similar toward thylacine sightings, if your having fun why not. Plus you may record something cool. I still have recordings I made as a youngster of coyotes working themselves into a frenzy under our tree fort at night. The professional cryptid hunters are pretty lame, as that sort of thing tends to be a bit of a grift. But if i had to put money on one actually being real, obviously the thylacine, it has the advantage of being a real animal. We do have a real marsupial though!

If they were still alive you'd have them on trail cams. That was a fox. I have foxes on my property all the time.

I feel like you just can't trust audio recordings. It could be someone's nan having a laugh in the middle of the woods for all we know. Until there is absolute 100% proof I don't think I will ever believe there is any of these guys left unfortunately

I hope they are out there...and I hope humans never find them. They'll be much safer if they are never found. Great video 👍

I think I have to agree there, it would be nice to know they’re surviving without our interference

Finding them would take away any concern of them being extinct in the first place. Instead of hoping, we’ll know they’re out there and be relieved. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Tasmanians are not familiar with the Tasmanian Tiger, most of us do not know its behavioral patterns, everyone thinks they ate sheep when they didn't, everyone thinks the farmers killed them , no one knows the government put a bounty on their head. No one knows if they are elusive or pestilent, no one even knows if there are multiple species of them. No one knows their diet, no one knows their walking pattern, their foot print and the Tiger that is seen in Western Australia would have to be nothing lie the Tiger seen in Tassie. When people want to tell you things about this, its most likely shit talk.
