- Watch as I finally get to drive the world's first Demon 170 Convertible. I initially showed you the build process several months ago, but now that the car has been completed, I wanted to put it through it's paces. If the Demon 170 wasn't crazy enough, the convertible version feels even more insane. Would you do this to your Demon 170?

As an auto body mechanic of over 47 years, I can fully appreciate the effort to do this conversion. I don't however, care for the looks. I never liked a convertible of any kind, maybe because if I wanted that open air feeling when going down the road, I'd hop on my motorcycle.
Me either. Plus, doing that to those cars will bring the resale value down as well I feel like.
The problem is riding a motorcycle increases risk of death or injury by a pretty large amount.
Yeah they look goofy. Removes the aggression immediately from this car
@spectre3492 all convertibles remove the aggression from a car
as a convertible owner and a former motorcycle rider I couldn't disagree with you more the convertible gives you the best of both and are far safer I am 70 years and a lot wiser
I think it’d be pretty sweet to have a convertible, to each their own, those guys do a hell of a job though
They absolutely do
Isn't a rollover bar a mandate ? Why aren't these car having them included ?
@@charlesstepinski9327 Not mandated most convertibles don't have them
@Analyzer52 I remember the 90s mustangs had a beam that arched behind the back of front seats. Haven't really paid attention to much of the convertible thing but with cars like these, you would think it be a requirement from the factory
It is pretty sketchy having a demon 170 with a convertible
But you gotta admit it’s pretty cool 😂
Not as big of an issue since the car is a straight line performer only
@@WineHouse33 Tho it does affect the 1/4mile time’s considering it’s a street legal dragster
It doesn’t really matter cause the convertible is just 🔥
You damn right.. Having a convertible that does a hundred and eighty miles an hour without a roll bar is extremely dangerous.
@@armandsmith1027 But totally worth it 😂
@@YourAverageCarFan Don't get me wrong... If I had the extra money I'd have one on my driveway.
I'm getting up there in years and when I was a kid I fell in love with a 1970 challenger rt with A 426 and a four speed! Wife finally gave up I get to get one used of course and I can only afford a Rt or xrt8 waiting for the right one
Saw a sweet one. 1973 DODGE CHALLENGER RESTOMOD at Vanguard Motor Sales that sold. You can dream on that one until then. Never too old.
A CAR CAPABLE OF 150MPH IN A 1/4 SHOULD ABSOLUTELY HAVE A ROLLBAR.
You seem like the type that would absolutely need one.
Isn't it a mandated requirement. I remember all the convertible mustangs having them built in from factory
@@charlesstepinski9327 I do believe that any topless vehicle is required to have some sort of protection behind you.
@charlesstepinski9327 Not ture I own a 2005 Mustang GT with over 500hp, no roll bar.
@@marcusjohnson7441 Not true most convertibles sold don't have roll bars
Love the custom shops and custom work. Well done.
Very nice. Ty for the content RacerX
The 170 is nuts, looks insane. Would love to see the nash bridges style with white top just for sags.
Awesome content buddy 🙏👍💪
what an insane build. hats off!
Looks great
I freakin love your videos man, keep up the good work💯🫡
AWESOME, Now you got me thinking about doing my Hellcat. You’re costing me money !!! 👍
It sounds amazing. I’m not a convertible guy either but, it looks sweet.
Greetings from Costa Rica 🇨🇷, I love your content 🎉
That is Fantastic Good for him ! 👍
That’s a Badass Demon 170 😎
Looks like top-notch work quality coming out of that shop, nicely done.
That's crazy!
Awesome video! I can tell the owner is just so passionate about his company and their work.
Never cared for convertibles but wow does that Demon 170 look sweet, just love that color, what a awesome
build, job well done.
It looks and sounds awesome. The custom seats look great. Every Demon 170 owner gets to customize and enjoy their car the way they want to. Why not this? Probably are not going to be too many of these, like counting on one hand rare. Two thumbs up!
That is FREAKING SWEET!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing!!
As a previous convertible owner, I loved the feel of the wind, the mechanical sounds and even the smells in the air as you drive. Only a stick shift would make it better yet.
If the challenger came with a convertible option i would have bought one but i went with the mustang. Manual and convertible.
Good to see just car people enjoying the fruits of their labor, love it.
BADASS !!!
Back in 1980 I bought a 1970 Olds 442 Convertible in Matador Red with white interior! Anyhow I had the engine built and new headers and exhaust put on it and that 365 horse 455 really sounded amazing with the top down! So I can only imagine what it would be like to drive a Demon 170 convertible. I am thinking it's must be an unforgettable experience!
Really enjoyed the video, thank you. Liked the moment, when the turbo kicked in and made special sound of muscle car. Is this "in-house" conversion place, that Dodge sends the cars there, or this is 3-rd party not related to Dodge?
that's badass 😊
Thank you ,you legend, from sydney Australia, what a great flick, loved it,I hope his wig wS alright after the ride ,take care mate, lol, regardsha ha ha ha
Thats sick! Definitely the only Demon 170 convertible. That would definitely be cool to see the whole process how they do that from beginning to end. It’s a little spend and I don’t know if I’d like to see my 170 get chopped up. Amazing upload, brother. 👊
Watch the other video Racerx did showing what they do in each step to make it a convertible. It is really cool 😎
That is absolutely nuts.
The sounds are why I put a VMP Odin on my 2012 Mustang conv. just something about the wind blowing and then hearing the supercharger whine!!
I agree with the convertible thing, I see the appeal for one, but not for me. Congrats on driving a 1 of 1 car, that alone pretty special!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Big props to the owner for doing this. When most of these will be sealed in bubbles as investments, this owner decided to cut the roof off!
🏆Racer X🏆 not a big fan of convertibles👀but come on this is 🍀Cool😎✌️
A very special character indeed!!
Wow awesome!!! Anyone that says its not cool to do that to a car like that is just jealous. Nice to see we are still allowed to modify our cars in a free country.
Das ist Uber Wunderbar RacerX! But will it keep up with a Mazda MX-5?
Awesome cool
Holy sh!t that car looks good.
Awesome
Never had a convertable but I have found that the next best thing is having the rear slider window open on your 1974 D100, sounds like youre in a speed boat.
The Chally just looks right as a convertible!
Terminator convertibles are scary enough, thank you!
WELL DONE BACK TO IMPORTANT BUSINESS!!
Badass!
Cool car. Not a huge convertible fan, but thats pretty neat.
I'm not a big convertible guy, but this shouldn't be controversial at all. If anything, this adds value to the car. One day these verts will probably go for big money, because the only way to get one in convertible form, is to go through these guys, or buy one that's already done.
You're kidding right? This 100 percent decreases the value. I guarantee this will be a hard sell. You're taking a purpose built drag car and making it into a convertible. Literally modified the engineering of the car.
I would be willing to be this car goes for 100k more than a normal 170. Only about 10 percent of these cars will ever see the track .. the other people buying these just want something unique or bragging rights.. it’s not my thing but lots of people love convertibles .. if they only 3 or 4 .. it will be one of the most rare challengers out there
DAMN!!👌😍👉♥️🥰👍 That’s one badass Demon!😈
This is one of those ideas I wouldnt do, but think its pretty cool looking to see someone else risk the usual occurrences with convertibles lmao. itll Deffo will be a challenger that'll have a spot at a proper car show.
The dealership I work for ordered one for the dealership. I was told from the day it was ordered as a Scat Pack Challenger then sent to the convertible conversion shop . It took over a year. I was told we have been paying flooring on it since it left Dodge since Dodge showed it as inventory. It showed and the owner has it. ( I believe it was either ordered for him or wife ?)
Good video i think a roll bar would look good and with that many pony's it may save your life someday.High Springs ranks high as a good town to move too how did it look to you ? i know a blur lol 😂
You should try a 427 Cobra
I have a convertible 6 gen camaro and the whole top tucks into the trunk and covers up with metal body plate. Nothing sticking out
What about rollover protection? Did I miss them discussing that in the video?
Great video the car looks very good as a convertible , sounds amazing.
Thanks for sharing that one
Wow.
Salesman at hometown motors showed me the one in their showroom. Was quite concerned with all the additional framing. Ugh! Back in 70-71, the Challenger and Cuda convertibles had extra framing from the factory. BUT rare was the day that came with a Hemi (42 built). Most people knew the drawbacks of high power and cars without a real roof. My 71 Challenger convertible has a 318, as most of them did. Big blocks were reserved for the hardtops....for good reason.
They did make Hemi convertibles. I'm old enough to have worked as a mechanic, at a Chrysler dealership, in the Detroit area, in the mid 70s. We did all the prep, on the cars, for the auto shows. Guys told me how they did a Hemi Challenger, with a 4 speed. A mechanic took it in the back lot, and did a hole shot. The body twisted, tearing the convertible top. The body shop had to do a very quick repair, before sending it down to the show.
@@garyszewc3339 Thanks for the info. According to Hemmings, a total of 42 Hemi E-body convertibles were built in 70-71. Twelve were Challenger R/Ts only built in 70 and thirty were Hemi Cudas built in 70-71.
😍😍🔥🔥
Perma-grin!
How does it ride with the top up?
AwesomeX《☆》Wow F8 Green is my favorite color. I'd do a RollBar as well Brother Just sayin✌🏼😎☯️
Yes, I was wondering about rollover protection.
@@kevinknotts6337 《☆》Ya It doesn't have to be an NHRA Cage. Just a Simple RollBar in the back would add Safety & look cool af with the top down & add more rigidity to the body✌🏼😎☯️
I think its ironic that the Challenger is the best looking in convertible form and yet the only one not offered from the factory as a convertible.
car looks huge in that header photo🤣
Wonder if they added structure supports
I’d imagine that frame would flex a lot
I’m guessing you didn’t watch the video or weren’t paying attention
Anything over 800hp as a convertible is crazy, but I love crazy 😂
Hello everyone, I just wanted to say if you are not subscribed to racer x please do. I reached out with some questions on my new 2023 hellcat charger. Racer x has taken the time to respond and explain options and routes I can take do to living in California. His knowledge is priceless. I say that to say this. Many content creators will not take the time and respond to needs of others. I took a shot in the dark and without fail I received a response right away. You tell me that’s not a character of a person who cares about his subscribers. Racer x thank you for all you do. It’s my pleasure to be a supporter and subscriber.

Thanks buddy.. 👍
How much is the conversion?
I see softcovers do they also convert hardtop drop tops as well????
All soft tops
Curious to know if the conversion lowers the value of the car...
Scat pack with shaker hood would be coolest convertible to me!
Sounded like the “check-engine” light came on, as I heard that familiar Dodge “ding” from the Message Center….
That car looks huge. It makes the person standing next to it look like a midge.
Feels wrong, but so very right.
My guy what happened we didn't get to see it open or close was it manuel or did it have the auto on it😢
It’s all automatic. I showed it in my other video where I toured the facility 👍
This is the og color in the barret Jackson auction for big $$$
No roll bar?
I hate that antenna on the trunk lid for some reason. I'd be ok ditching it for aesthetics. Not many people use car nav or sirius.
These are a gonna be worth alot in 30 years
Never been a fan of any soft top convertible and still not but the idea is cool. They should try a targa top instead
Now put a FA Green roll cage in it so u can track it an with the top down that would look good
Would love to see this running against "Sketchy Vert" Trans AM! Anyone know if that car is still running?
Once you see it as a refrigerator on wheels it cannot be unseen.
😢 I want one 😍
While it looks fantastic, this just screams deathtrap to me. Taking such a high performance car and changing the structutal integrity of the factory engineered body seems awfully risky. I saw there was addional structure added in the video, but the bulk of it likely stiffens the body so the doors will open when the roof is removed. Remember subframe connectors on unibody cars? While they were a different animal, it was discovered they could cause the floor to violently bend upwards rather than crumple as designed in a frontal impact.
I'm also curious if an NHRA track would allow a 170 to make a pass in sans roof configuration without some form of cage installed. However, someone who makes this modification isn't likely interested in racing the car.
Good point. He probably is not going to be taking it to the drag strip to race it
I'd love a black SRT 392 convertible with a 6-speed 😎
That needs a chrome roll bar behind the front seats
I was thinking the same thing. 1025 HP drag car convertible with no rollbar seems insane to me. You flip that thing and you're losing your head. The A beams in the windshield frame would fold like an origami if there were a rollover
How much does this cost to have done,.
how does he deal with the airbag light from the missing air bags
They have a bypass .. no light! It’s part of their plug in
How much does it cost to convert your car?
I want to see this thing fully launch on a prepped track.
That’s the plan 👍
Vert made it slower
I couldn't cut a Challenger like that. Plus, you're just adding weigh to a heavy car.
Its crazy mean drop top 170
Don't like convertibles but I will say the Challenger body without a hood is beautiful
Imagine making a smoke show before running a 9s pass at the drag strip with the top down. If that’s not a flex I don’t know what is
Mopar dropped the ball they should have produced the droptop from factory.
Its a piece of a demon 170 just being pulled right off! Ah hahahaaha
