As he kept zooming in, I thought her forehead kept getting bigger and bigger. But when I saw her in the end I noticed that her forehead was never big, and true zoom perspective are the foreheads we met along the way. ❤

Good explanation and demo. This is why getting too close to the face is distorting.

Now you’re differentiating between taking pictures and being a pro photographer. Pros understand this and choose lenses to get the look they want at the working distance they have. Others just take a zoom lens and stand in the same place. I love becoming a sniper and taking pics of people from long distance with 100 and 135 lenses. I can get real emotions and get high quality pics with less perspective distortion.

It may “zoom in or crop” but you still keep the resolution as opposed to cropping in post

That's facts. Lens length doesn't determine distortion. Perspective-your distance from the subject-makes subjects appear distorted, though distortion isn't the right word; people will call a wide image distorted because wide lenses offer unusual perspectives.

That’s mostly true, but wider angle lenses will naturally have barrel distortion as you go closer to the edge of the frame

@@Drpftnst That's also true, but most people won't notice barrel distortion, and it's easily correctible in software. My point is you could have an ultra-wide photo with zero distortion, and people will still call it distorted because they don't know what distortion is.

You understand and teach perspective so much better than "lense charts" with millions of likes

Those focal length lens comparisons always bug me because it’s the camera distance making the difference, as you demonstrated.

This is incorrect. Zoom is not cropping in
