- My transcription/arrangement of this early master piece by Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays. Can you believe they were just 23 and 24 years old when they composed and recorded it? Unbelievable! It is still one of my favorite tunes and I absolutely enjoyed to transcribe, arrange and learn it to play. Without this music I probably wouldn't have become a musician. Thank you Pat and Lyle from the bottom of my heart! 🙏🏻🎹
here is my Metheny/Mays/PMG playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLTFdSA2EkOE0jfY7Z6B2qef23NvBAuR7L
Thank you for your response, Mr. Karcher. Is your transcription available for purchase in sheet music? I would love to play this song.
@@susansykes9110 yes, please write to: uver@gmx.net for more info 🎹
You should work with pat metheny I'm sure he misses the lyle touch . Fantastic !
Heard this in 1978 in a NYC record store. Asked the clerk about it and took the White Album home. Changed my musical life.
Yes! Reminds me of WRVR Radio..
You say it - it changed my musical life, too! And when the Wichita album followed, I definitely knew where my place in music would be...
The first tune I ever heard from the PMG when it first came out; couldn't get the tune out of my head. Been a fan ever since.
Truly Amazing !!! Band nuances captured and reproduced, we can "hear" all other instruments underneath the piano. Thanks
Remarkable as usual!
PS - the "Travel" version is by far my favourite, Lyle Mays' solo sweeps me away :)
Danke Danke Danke This is one of my favorite PMG’songs You rised up my day Perfect sound anazing performance Thank you for posting thus
Thank you, Lyle61 (nice nickname, btw 😁)
Genius!!! You are a genius! Congrats!!!
Amazing one of my favorites of all time’s. Unbelievable how you have brought it back to the memories i once enjoyed. Well done its like I’m living back in 1978 again 👍❤
Your interpretations are always very inspiring. Makes me want to play my piano. Thank you.
As always OUTSTANDING!
Volle Zustimmung!
NICE 💥👍🏾
I'm really impressed!
Damn, very accurate transcription. That must’ve taken a while! And great job at getting the Mays reverb sound. What reverb did you use?
Thanks, mate! I'm using reverbs of LOGIC PRO X.
Great, love the arrangement!
Such a careful and sensitive interpretation. 🙏
Wait, so where is the transcription? I don't see it anywhere.
Hi Paul, just write to: uver@gmx.net for more info about the transcription 😉🎹
Yes, some of the greatest modern jazz pieces written! I didn't know that Pat composes his pieces on piano first. Incredible interview here ruclips.net/video/QEgalcH_-b4/видео.html
thank you, Jim!
I remember hearing this piece for the first time. Stopped me dead in my tracks. It embodies that time perfectly. Couldn’t begin to explain why or how. It’s gone like the wake of a ship. Beautiful arrangement.
Me Too 👍
Excellent. Thank you for that. Lyle Mays would have been so proud.
Flawless, brilliant arrangement of my favorite PM/LM song! Thanks!
Another masterpiece Uwe. I can’t wait to quit my job so I can spend more time practicing piano and learn all of the amazing transcriptions you have created for us. Genius Uwe!
great plan, John - and great times ahead, I guess 😃
Sure you'll have... Better days ahead (PMG) 😀 have a great practice JS
It's amazing that this was the first track on the first PMG album, that they were all so young, yet created such an impressive work of art.
Amazing! Not only playing, but also the heart on Lyle were shown. You are too incredible and I am proud of you. It's been more than 45 years since we knew this song. Maybe I am
very lucky to know that you made our dreams come true.
Thanks so much, my friend!
Just OUTSTANDING! Uwe, you should go on tour. Your own renditions are so perfect to listen to. TY
This deserves way more LIKES! What an astounding rendition of a complex piece for solo piano! One of Lyle's best solos which evokes such triumphant emotion. Well done indeed!
Wow, that transcription is truly worthy of the original and you sir, nailed it.
The best part in the original for me is towards the end of Lyle's solo when he starts his ascent to his climax. This part, if I could only play like you (sigh), I would hammer the chords in full force as it is the culmination of emotions.
Great piece, great playing, so envious. Great piano btw.
No way! I had no idea this existed! My favorite PMG song and imo, one of the best songs ever written.
What a joy listen to this. Pure acoustic piano. Superb performance.
Thanks to Pat, Lyle and you.
Haha starting the clip I was wondering how you were going to deal with the melody in the interlude. Very clever and it sounds really great! Fantastic. Thank a lot Uwe.
Interesting that you thought about that - the interlude was one of the hardest passages indeed 😅
@@ukaykeys totally Amazing talent I have listened to this and many more of your RUclips videos in this past week. Well Done 👍
Top. Samstagmorgen bei Sonnenschein und Kaffee. Super Arrangement.
freut mich, Dan - danke! 🙏🏻
Brilliant.. my all time favourite Song & Piano Solo... Fantastic work.. 👍
Me too listened to it for the first time tonight the good old days for sure 😢
What a brilliant performance...thank you for sharing this with us
Making me melt here, Uwe. You have distilled every note, every emotion, every expression of Lyle and Pat here. Thank you is all I can say, and clap in heartfelt smiles.
Thanks for your kindness, much appreciated!
„San Lorenzo“ and „Are you going with me“ were the first two title I learned to know from Pat Metheny and after almost 40 years I still like them most. This masterpiece is another beautiful interpretation of that song! Love it and thank you so much!
Once again a very good choice, I didn't listen San Lorenzo since years and yes it's mad to compose this at 23 years old, I guess musical talent is not only working hard but also a question of natural gift.
You are absolutely right, Eric. Extreme talent always shows early; if hard work and passion are added, something unique almost inevitably emerges...
Wow, what a tribute to Lyle Mays. Wow!! I've always loved this piece San Lorenzo but I've never heard anyone come close to duplicating that first recording of the Pat Metheny Group. You nailed it! What a pro you must be.
Impressed by both your listening skills, which you certainly exhibit by your transcription, and your technical skills on performance. Not to mention the artfulness of your technique. Ah, go ahead lets mention it. BRAVO.
Thank you, Wesley - hope you will enjoy working on the score 😉🎹
What a great piece.. it really takes you somewhere else. The gospel-y move at 9:11 gets me every time.
This song is like a profound dream
Just by the way this man places his wrist inforns me that this man is a serious musician. Salute!
Just brilliant, Uwe! Drop-dead gorgeous!!
Uwe beautiful work. Fantastic transcription.
My heart is exploding with joy! Your playing of this composition is spectacular. Thank you, Uwe. I’ll be ordering it at some point.
Fantastic arrangement sir....absolutely a beautiful piece from Pat and Lyle
The perferct start for this sunny weekend !
Thank you so much Uwe 🙏🏻
very welcome, Marcus 😊 Have a nice weekend!
My forever favorite by Metheny and Mays. I love this choice that you are sharing with the world. Thank you! I can’t wait to play it!!
your internal sense of time is remarkable
The dreamy transitions are my faves, of course, but there are so many wonderful things in the entire mix and mingle.
You captured it so well!
Marvelous! Hard to believe you could put all that into just one instrument. There's so much filler that all the other instruments (bass, drums and guitar) contribute to this piece of art. The melody certainly was difficult to play. Loved your arrangement, and you did Lyle justice by beautifully playing his part. Bravo
Interestingly, the start of Lyle's solo has always sounded like the first line of "Amazing Grace" to me.
I am in total awe, not only of your beautiful arrangements, but your apparently prodigious memory!
I am truly touched by your arrangement. I think Lyle would be impressed. In fact, I don't think I've seen a live rendition by PMG that was as impressive. I love how you arranged the guitar parts and the synth lead.
Beautiful, awesome!!! Great rendition! You nailed it!
I just listen to this again probably the 10th through 15th time in the past year. Nothing can bring back the original, but I don’t believe anybody could do a better job of reproducing it just simply amazing ! It even brings back the same smell of the ECM record with the plastic sheath. They came in, the album didn’t stick to. I remember the anti-static spray with the record cleaning thing that look like what you would buff your shoes with. 😮❤
So happy and uplifting, yet haunting and pensive toward the end, with a major key silver lining to finish. Love the multiple melodies in this one piece. Your transposition is spot on! I’ll be contacting you to purchase very soon.
Amazing how your channel has grown over the years. Congratulations for the excellent work and dedication. It's always great to hear you playing. Greetings from southern Brazil.
Lyle Mays wäre stolz 🎼🎹
This is beyond amazing. Picking & holding a tempo & including all band parts in a tune that, for want of a better word, "floats", must have been very difficult. But it worked brilliantly. A great transcription, congratulations.
I see a musician writing this comment - thank you very much, Owen - really appreciated! 🙏🏻🎹
Fantastic capture of an amazing tune!
I love that you’re doing the PMG catalogue. More proof that great songs hold up on solo piano.
well said, Roger - thank you!
For those players out there. If you have not gone to UWE's site and gotten these beautiful transcriptions you are missing out. These transcripts go well beyond anything in the song books or even the recent Lyle Mays compilation by P. Pisticelli. I will be working on them for sometime to come no doubt
Thank you very much, my friend - really appreciated! 🙏🏻🎹
..unglaublicher guter Jamaha-Flügel Sound….tolles Arrangement…Timing…Tempowechsel….Intonation..Feeling…einfach nur geil…I live for and Jazz🏆🏆
Liebe Grüße aus München
Danke für den netten mitternächtlichen Kommentar, Adrian 😊🙏🏻🎹
Wow! Lyle Mays would smile!
Lyle & Pat... & Uwe for ever 💞🤗🌍☮️
I have seen PMG so many times. I have met Pat and know Paul Wertico through a friend. Saw Lyle at Chicago Jazz Festival. He was sitting by himself and playing in the Blackstone Hotel by himself. I was just feet away from him totally mesmerized. I have no words for the appreciation have for them.
So wunderschön gespielt !
Elegancko!
Hello,
This is a masterpiece ...
Pat Metheny , Lyle Mays two giants of the music...
Greetings from France ❤
🤙Thank you. Each of your PMG and Lyle arrangements are just fantastic
This makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Magnificent. Playing guitar right along with it. (Memories, OMG.)
Wow! Once again, absolutely amazing work Uwe! Not only is your performance of this great piece flawless and beautiful, perhaps more amazingly, you've once again come up with an astounding transcription! Somehow, you've managed to capture 100% of the essence of this song...melding together multiple voicings of the original guitar, piano, and bass. It blows me away that you're able to come up with these amazing transcriptions...in addition to playing these complex arrangements flawlessly. Hats off to you once again!
thanks for your kindness, Joe - you made my evening 😊🙏🏻🎹
2:00
Amazing note for note perfect rendition of one of their very best pieces! And you do the piece complete justice. Thank you!!!
Phenomenal! Love how you arrange these into solo pieces
You are the only one I’ve notice on the entire RUclips who gives a decent example of what that AMT M40 mic system sounds like ….
Thanks for sharing that info
Lyle is loving you from the Paradise in which he is now and that he has described so exactly with Pat. Your work is so magnificent that i've heard the Lyle's magic touch in yours
Wow! Great work. I love this piece too.
Thank You so much Virtuoso Uwe...I'll have to write to you for more info on this transcription.
Absolut wundervoll.
Leider etwas über meinem Spielvermögen. Aber vielleicht versuche ich es doch.
Another great performance Uwe, I am listening in awe...
Sublime.
Liebe San Lorenzo PMG eine meine Favoriten sehr schönes Arrangement Uwe danke 🙏 Grüsse auf der Schweiz🇨🇭
BEAUTIFUL !!!
Thank you so much for this gift ❤
SUBLIME 🙏🏽💥🙏🏽 … and MAJESTIC 💥🙏🏽🎹
..You really feel this..I'm blown away..
Beautiful💜💜💙
Like any rational person, I am listening to some morning "Play All" Uwe Karcher when I hear this tune. Given that Lyle/Pat/PMG music is what brought me to Uwe's website, I instantly think, 'I don't think I've heard him play this tune before'. I look to discover he just posted it! Fantastic true to the original ensemble solo piano arrangement Uwe. Thanks for adding it to your list of Lyle/Pat/PMG tunes. Please keep'm coming.
Thank you very much, Chip - really appreciated (as always 😁)
Great job!!
Great! Wonderfull interpretation! Hugo.
That was nice, I really enjoyed it. Damn, I wish I could play piano.
Again; a solid piece of quality work from you. And as you say, this tune is written and performed by two very young men. Still, on the original you can hear the musical talent and subtle chemistry between the two playing together. A true lucky moment for the music industry when Pat and Lyle met at Whicita Jazz festival in 1974. Too bad we will never hear the two playing together anymore (or Lyle solo for that matter).
Thanks for your contribution to keep their music alive, and giving new angles with your always excellent interpretations.
Unbelievable
I wish I could like this more than once
