LOVE PAT AND LYLE'S MUSIC (WISH SOME GROUPS WOULD STAY TOGETHER FOREVER SOMETIMES). VERY NICE WORK ON THE INTERPETATION (YOUR PLAYING REMINDS ME OF KEITH JARRETT, LOVE YOUR PLANTIVE SOFTNESS). SAW THEM FROM 30 FEET AWAY AT A SMALL SAN GABRIEL VALLEY VENUE (HEAVEN), FOR THIS ALBUM. ALOHA. FROM GEORGIA (CALIFORNIA EXPATRIATE).
Dear Uwe, I heard this song for the first time in 1986. I was 22 yrs old and living in a new city, with a new job. I was feeling very sad and lonely on a warm New York summers night. I couldn't get my thoughts in order to sleep. Then, across my little clock radio, this beautiful song came on. As a warm breeze began to softly blow across my bed. I felt so calm and alive all at the same time. I bought the CD and listened to the song again, and again over the years, but I just couldn't re
I AM 63 NOW, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS MUSIC WHEN I WAS 18 YEARS OLD, I GREW UP WITH THEM, THE HIGHS AND THE LOWS, THE TRILLS OF MY EMOTION, THE MUSIC OF LYLE MAYS, NO WORDS
Bravo !!!!!!. Gracias por tan valiosa interpretación, es una perfecta transcripción y tocada con la sensibilidad que se necesita y se merece esta obra. Gracias de nuevo.
You capture every precise note and feeling of Lyle and Pat's playing. I've listened to their music since 1978 the white album PMG. This is one of my all time favorites. Thank you for your playing.
@Mattspaiser - thanks for your kind words, much appreciated! Of course, I´m improvising my own stuff, too (and there will be some uploads of it one day). But some tunes are so perfect - to me they deserve to be treated just like classical pieces, worth to be preserved note for note for ensuing ages :-) The Tokyo Encore and Sept. 15th are that category (imho) - that´s that I play them how they are... There will be more Lyle to come: "Close To Home" and "Mirror Of The Heart" - stay tuned!
Dear Uwe, I wish you were my pianoteacher (unfortunally I live in Holland) Very well played. I was about as old as you were when I heard this album for the first time back in' 81 and played it very often since then, but it still thrills me, especially this song. I hope to hear more from you Kind regards Frank
One of my favorite songs from PM and LM. Your rendition is amazing as you succinctly captured the tenderness and emotional depths of the song. I could listen to your version at the end of the day and all the craziness of the day would just disappear!
Uwe, what a fantastic job with this beautiful song. In less than an hour, it will be September 15th (I am on Eastern daylight time) and I thought I would see what was out there. Sir, you need to upload more videos. Look forward to seeing more of your music.
Dear Andrea, many thanks for your comment! I will try to publish the sheet music and talk with Pat Metheny about that issue (I´ll meet him in July). As soon I´ve got some news, I will publish them on this site. Best regards, Uwe
Dear France, the first half is ok for intermediate level, but the second half (or maybe the last third) is advanced. Just contact me if you are interested in a Skype or Zoom lesson 😊 (uver@gmx.net).
Hearing this on solo piano brings out even more emotion than the original recording, I think. With most other transcriptions and interpretations, either the skill level or interpretation can be distracting. Not with this. Your thoughtful playing has brought a new appreciation to me for this wondrous piece.
It is a true honor and an an unbelievable pleasure to listen to Uwe Karcher interpret the works of Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny. The universe has given you one of its greatest gifts, sir. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us.
Lieber Uwe.
I can't stop to listen, such a wonderful interpretation and performance!! Thanks for sharing it!!! I became a big fan watching your videos, one more beautiful than other...
Wow! Brilliant! Bravo! I became an instant fan the first time I heard Pat Metheny (it was the first PMG album) 36yrs ago. This tune (and the album it comes from) is one of my all time favourites, and you've covered it beautifully. A real pleasure.
Thank you for making this video. I’ve been listening to this since Lyle and pat released it and your cover is the best one I’ve heard. God bless u even more.
Wow! I'm stunned to hear someone other than Lyle playing my all time favorite piece of music so artfully. Your arrangement is beautiful. I've listened to the original version of this composition more times than I could ever count. It always moves me toward a state of grace. Your arrangement is inspired, especially from 4:30 to the end. I've been working on my own solo piano version of this (using the Pat Metheny Song Book chart) for a couple years now, and I'm only a quarter of the way through it. I hear such depth in your arrangement. Not sure whether to quit or try harder! :-) So glad I stumbled onto this beautiful offering you've put out into the universe. Keep up the excellent work.
Dear Terry, thanks for your detailed and kind comment! I think you shouldn´t quit but go on working on the tune - you won´t regret (it´s a very satisfying process). All the best, Uwe
Remembering Lyle mays who is too much in the shadow of Pat Metheny (In France) I never tire of listening your version and discover at each time something new like rare pearl!
From time to time I come back here to listen your wonderful version of this Mays-Metheny classic. Each time I'm surprised of the way you catch the Mays soul yet including a personal interpretation.
pretty awesome!!!! your performance brings me sheer spiritual enjoyment and we are sure that how fu**king talented Lyle Mays is....... this song has magic that effects our feelings so deeply,oh my goodness.....
take as long as you like. Its that kind of piece that can't help but be prolonged. I am a trumpet player but self taught poor pianist, always loved to play the standards that could be played slow. Kuz I couldn't play fast with facility! haha. I would love to memorize a transcription of this, like I did for Bill Evan's Periscope. It took forever but I made it (y)
I’ve thought about what music I would like to have played at my celebration of life, and this is the only one that comes to mind. Thank you, just goosebumps! ❤
Das ist wunderschön .......ich habe das Original schon immer gerne gehört.....aber soviel Gefühl.... ich träume mich in meine unbeschwerteren Zeiten zurück...... love it 🙏
I discovered Lyle Mays just a few years ago, always aware of PM group but never explored it (I am a classical pianist, who has loved jazz and listened to TONS over the years). Back in the early 70s about age 13 I discovered Bill Evans in my Dad's LP collection, and have been a fan ever since. I heard him once with my Dad @U of MD probably in '78, '79. So now they have come together for me w/Lyle Mays and PM through all of the years and I have a ton of albums now. This is LOVELY!
Hey, sorry that I´m coming back to you so late - somehow missed your comment - thanks for it, btw :-) To answer your question: the piano is a YAMAHA GA1. I have searched very long to solve the problem of too much reverb in my records. The solution is to keep the piano lid closed with the mic inside (I use the Applied Microphone Technology M40, which is very good). Best, Uwe
Es la mejor versión de piano jamás escuchada. Mis felicitaciones! Tu talento es asombroso! Es un privilegio para nuestros oídos, escucharte es un placer.
I can only agree with the many positive comments on your remarkably beautiful interpretation of Pat's music. May I ask, is the sheet music/transcription for this piece available? Many, many thanks!

You know what mate? I never get tired to listen to your version/performance. Each time I listen to it I like it more :)
Thank you very much!
I just spent eight minutes with my eyes closed and covered in goosebumps. Speechless.
Just found this ten years later. Great solo version. With audio only, it feels like Lyle himself is playing.
Bravo! Wonderful.
Congratulations, this is a great performance and an excellent arrangement of Metheny's masterwork. Keep up the good work.
Bravo !!!!!!. Gracias por tan valiosa interpretación, es una perfecta transcripción y tocada con la sensibilidad que se necesita y se merece esta obra. Gracias de nuevo.
Lyle's solo is an ultimate example of what a piano can do among other things. Incredible music.
simply perfect thank you Uwe....
very welcome, Serge - thank you 😁
AWESOME !!!!!
Great tribute , man ... So perfect ! one of the best romantic mélodies of Metheny/Mays ...Thank you for that ...
You capture every precise note and feeling of Lyle and Pat's playing. I've listened to their music since 1978 the white album PMG. This is one of my all time favorites. Thank you for your playing.

Thanks, just lovely, I'd forgotten how much I loved this tune, with all the beautiful and unexpected color and key changes.
yes, Michael - its one of my absolute favorites, too 👍🏻
Bellissima. Amazing arrangement.
Mille grazie, Lucio!
One of my favorite songs from PM and LM. Your rendition is amazing as you succinctly captured the tenderness and emotional depths of the song. I could listen to your version at the end of the day and all the craziness of the day would just disappear!
thank you very much, Leopold - really appreciated!
Beautiful playing
thanks again, Alan - appreciated!

I'd love to know what your microphones and their placement were, because it sounds so clear and rich.
Profundas raíces Europeas... Zarzuela y Barroco...una extraordinaria fusión melancólica de las memorias Iberas y germanas...digno de las Diosas
Bad day today my friend
:(
yes, Ernesto - bad day, bad week... but we have to come over it. His music is still with us - and will be forever...
Dear Andrea, many thanks for your comment! I will try to publish the sheet music and talk with Pat Metheny about that issue (I´ll meet him in July). As soon I´ve got some news, I will publish them on this site. Best regards, Uwe
This is a great piece...played so beautifully!
Thank you :-)
I love this version! I think it's the best I've listened to - Great job!
Good to hear :-) Thanks, Shai!
This is fantastic! I hope this is published soon.
Thanks, Johnny :-)
Very very verygoooood!!! Fantastic! The only version like the original!!! Almost like Lyle!!!
Too kind, dave - thanks :-)
Thanks, Sabine - have a nice weekend :-)
Do "Last Train Home"...
that will happen one day 😉
I wish you can teach me this song on piano. Im taking piano lesson. Wich grade i need To be? 🎶
Dear France, the first half is ok for intermediate level, but the second half (or maybe the last third) is advanced. Just contact me if you are interested in a Skype or Zoom lesson 😊 (uver@gmx.net).
@@ukaykeys Thank you
I Will get more practice before.
Happy Holliday 🎶
One of the best pieces of music ever recorded and your transcription is exceptional. Well done!

With most other transcriptions and interpretations, either the skill level or interpretation can be distracting. Not with this. Your thoughtful playing has brought a new appreciation to me for this wondrous piece.
This is really a nice comment - much appreciated!
That's true... very well said!
Agreed 100%
listening this piece my interpretation is like feeling lost, confused, sad but there’s always hope ahead
REMINDED ME OF A KEITH JARRETT STYLE INTERPETATION, GOD BLESS HIS SOUL.
Just beautiful. Thank you, sir. A fitting tribute to Pat, and especially Lyle, and of course, Bill Evans, who's music forever resides inside my head.
God bless you, Lyle, wherever you are. And thanks Uwe!
Is this guy is keeping Lyle Mays alive and I love it

Eric Balcon yeah, you are so right - a tune for eternity...

Thank you for making this video. I’ve been listening to this since Lyle and pat released it and your cover is the best one I’ve heard. God bless u even more.
Incredibly difficult piece to play, and you play it pitch perfect...
It's the best version of Lyle Mays up to this point. Exciting. It reaches me to my bones!!!
My Bucket List is to play piano like this guy..
I keep coming back, thank you so much!!
November 10, 2021: Rick Beato calls this the most beautiful song he knows. Check his YT channel for a breakdown of the song.
yeah - and Rick is right 👍🏻

Try Harder!!!!
Never quit something you love Terry 👍
God it's perfect. Amazing.
This is wonderful. I can't imagine Lyle would be anything but pleased and honored.
Thank you so much for taking the time to do this..10 years ago.
Damn. I could tell this would be a tasty rendition after the first chord. Really well played.
Dear toothcomic7, I know to 100% what you mean! It´s fantastic that music can effect such feelings - probably the main reason I became a musician...
a more profound piece of music simply doesn’t exist, PAT AND LYLE are a national treasure, it cannot be better…………………….
Beautiful..brought a tear to my eyes.
I'm not even a musician and this song is so beautiful it makes me cry whenever I hear it.
I heard it when I was around sixteen and I was fascinated.
Just found this. Profound. Chills.
That change at 4:35 always pulls my heart up into my throat... so moving.. and you handled it masterfully... beautiful work..
Remembering Lyle mays who is too much in the shadow of Pat Metheny (In France) I never tire of listening your version and discover at each time something new like rare pearl!
Merci beaucoup, Eric! And regarding, Lyle - its not a specific French problem (IMHO). It is a problem everywhere...
Yeah man. Thanks. This, and Andre Mehmari's tributes are the best.
One of the most perfect pieces of music ever.
what a good tribute to Lyle Mays, RIP. Simply beautiful
thank you! Sad days, these days 😔
Beautiful rendition of one of the most beautiful pieces ever written. Well done and thanks
From time to time I come back here to listen your wonderful version of this Mays-Metheny classic. Each time I'm surprised of the way you catch the Mays soul yet including a personal interpretation.

and we are sure that how fu**king talented Lyle Mays is.......
this song has magic that effects our feelings so deeply,oh my goodness.....
Superb!
Hey John, my version is 4 seconds longer than the original version by Pat & Lyle. So I don´t think that it is played too fast ;-)
+ukaykeys It's not played too fast by any means. Beautifully done. Bravo.
Thank you, much appreciated!
You made my day, for 4 days in a row. May god bless your soul!
Great to hear, thanks a lot!

Beatiful song and beatiful interpretation!!!
So we’ll done my friend~
I am astounded by your playing this piece so brilliantly. i am now subscribed sir.
What a wonderful surprise. One of my favorite PM/LM compositions. It was great hearing it as a piano solo. Nice chops dude.
That's a very skilled, sensitive and accurate realization of the original recording.....well done!!!
Thank you very much, Ted - appreciated!
Very impressive performance. I like so much Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays compositions. Thanks to bring us good moments of music

THANKS for this HUGE! ^_^
I sense a lot of Lyle influence in you. Just like in most of us including PMG…
Fantastic. Happy memories of an ex, we both loved this music.
I can only agree with the many positive comments on your remarkably beautiful interpretation of Pat's music. May I ask, is the sheet music/transcription for this piece available? Many, many thanks!
yes, just contact me for more info: uver@gmx.net BTW, this tune was mainly written by Lyle :-)
How wonderful! I'm here to immerse myself in Lyle's music, my own form of grieving his death and honoring his genius and musical gifts to humanity.
Well said, my friend 👍🏻
Excellent piano solo. Lyle Mays is my favorite pianist. ❤️
