This is the Evolv from Archetype and designed by NathanAlphaMan. Some history with this, I bought into the original prototype run years ago, and it had a fair amount of issues but I just loved the design so much. It ended up being a fun board, but was damaged in transit and had a non working joy stock rotatory encoder due to tolerances being wrong.
Fast forward to today and we have the Evolv 2.0? 3.0? What ever it is, it's completely overhauled without losing what made it fun in the first place, those tendrils as feet. Quite frankly, I like this version and design WAY more. It's sleek.
Archetype also let me know the final price for the entry unit is now LOWER. The all alu builds will be starting at $372 now, which makes this project even better. The board is fun, sounds good leaning more to a louder bassy sound rather than a higher pitch "clack" like I usually like in my boards. The feet as of right now are good, and haven't really been problematic but they are getting better in the final round apparently!
Again with many boards I cover, there is always cheaper alternatives to a sound and layout you may be after. With these premium products you typically get a fun more complex design and sometimes some stand out features. This board has one of those! Using a Joystick encoder which is awesome.

Absurd price coupled with what is probably going to be a very prolonged delivery period based on their last group buy (Minerva)-which has yet to be delivered, mind you-and this is a clear hard pass.
erm good reminder, do they have an ETA on the minerva? Pretty concerning especially factoring in the state of the hobby right now with vendors bailing constantly
@@owerr66 Updates have been unacceptably sparse and few and far between. I wouldn't even bother asking in their Discord as someone else (read: not Mek) usually responds. Again, considering the fact that Minerva has taken well over a year to deliver (with no actual delivery date in sight), I would definitely take the estimated Q4 2024 delivery date for the Evolv with a massive grain of salt and stay far away from this "preorder". Keep in mind the original estimated delivery date was Q2 of 2023. The same issues have applied to a lot of their keycaps. Once my Minerva order has been fulfilled, I'm leaving that Discord and never looking back.
In love with the board but hate the typing angle :(
I NEED a board that has that "piano black" color he has it for the whole case. This board is crazy but the design is not really for me.
The exploded look on any keyboard makes it look cheap to me. imo

Missed this stream but love catching the YT video! Joystick is an interesting concept. Not for me personally, but solid board all around.

the videos quite misleading. Yes this setup for 450 would be decent. But this config is $757.... which is crazy high for any keyboard these days...
Whats misleading exactly? It's stated what version of the board this is, and I even said I don't like this version and would prefer the basic models?
@@alexotos not saying its intentional. Just saying a lot of people can be confused as you keep emphasizing about the $450 price point, yet that's not the price for the config you spent the entire video building and testing
just stick to your membrane board that will be a cheaper option

Board looks sick. I’m not into 75%’s, but this is one of the most unique boards in recent memory. Price is a little (understandably) steep for me, though.

Beautiful keyboards but this spacebar sounds like a 7$ amazon kb
seems pricey for a plastic board and personally not a fan of the magnetic snap on tendrils in combination with piano black, makes it seem "cheap" if that makes sense

To deem this just “a plastic board” is kinda wild considering all the machining that there seems to be going on. Some intricate (compared to a regular box on wedge plastic board) curves this board has

God, I remember seeing the old prototype for this years ago when I first got into the hobby and absolutely loved it. This thing is arguably even better than the old version.
Tragically, though, my fall into the ergo rabbit-hole has made a board like this the mirror opposite of what I like now layout-wise. I'll have to just settle with a printout of that back.
Now if an ergo had a design style like this.....
Not a form factor I like but that looks absolutely amazing and I'm honestly surprised the 'joystick' thing hasn't been done sooner. I'd love to see what someone with a metal 3d printer could do as far as those bottom attachments go
