Ragnar speaks to Aslaug in Episode 12 about her keeping the kids true to their father rather surprising Aslaug in it's honesty in this quite emotional scene.
"...but you never poisoned their minds, or stopped them from loving me, and for all of that...with all my heart...I am grateful to you..." - What a beautifully written scene
@@tyroneloki5131 and Lagertha Cheated on Ragnar with his brother. Also, in the last two seasons, she has jumped on just about every dick she's encountered.

@Drama_period_time cuz truth hurts doesn't it. well many people r like that anyway one night stand -> girl got pregnant-> married -> or started to be a single mom some doesn't even get any penny to the guy who got them pregnant.....
It shouldnt sting. The seer had told her and Ragnar that their children would become infamous. Maybe at the beginning their was hope but with Ivars birth, the hope and illusion disappeared.
At this point he was also trying to make things right. Telling Floki he loved him, telling Bjorn he was proud of him, basically saying everything he never got to say. He was broken and might have sensed the end was nigh.
He didn’t sense it, he knew he was going to die, in fact, he wanted to die, he was preparing himself for it, that’s why he took Ivan with him, why he spoke with the most important people in his life before travelling to Wessex, why he decided to give away his riches and treasures (also because he had lost his faith, so he knew nothing material mattered after you died). It’s as Ragnar said to the Seer: he chose to die at the hands of king Aelle.
@@samflynn97 Except she was swindled and convinced by the man that he loved and cherished her. And convinced that he'd take care of her. Not to mention the promise of being queen. She got the status but for what?? Ragnar barely came home, slept with other women often, and treated her like shit. Even smacked her when she yelled at him once.
@@lionspride4821 When did Ragnar ever claim that he has any love for her? Aslaug herself is the one who tore Ragnar out of his previous happy home by sleeping around with him, so what right does she have to complain about it? He has provided her with a queenship which comes with every privilege she could ever need or desire, even after Ragnar's death. She knew full well that there wasn't any love between them when she decided on moving to Kattegat uninvited. A house and provisions would've been enough for Ragnar to carry his share of the responsibility toward the child, but no, he even gifted her with an equal and permanent share of his status. If that isn't plenty taking care of someone then I don't know what is. And then, to top it all off... she belittled the death of Athelstan and the betrayal of Floki, his two closest friends, all while ignoring the obvious difficulty he was experiencing in that particular moment. A smack is barely anything compared to how she was emotionally abusing him.
@Smiles and the Twisted MD Like I said my hatred lacked perspective lol. I hated her, for those reasons, then looked at it another way. Didnt say she wasn't flawed
@Smiles and the Twisted MD ok hold on there she did not deserve to die in the end and in that way, oh by all means cheating is a horrible thing to do yes but isn't deserving of such punishment and she even tried to find mutual ground when she got pregnant and came to accept the position of a second women despite her royal blood, lagertha should've been more mad at ragnar than at aslaug for she is the least guilt person in the whole show considering what awful stuff people did there, aslaug in the end gave her the kingdom and walked away with a smug look on her because she knows that's not what lagertha wants she's envious of her even after defeating her, and i mean who wouldn't she gets everything she wants while sitting on her ass, the old lagertha (s1 , s2 , s3 ) would've been honest to say that, instead of finding excuses like "you bewitched him" or "you stole my family" like please just stfu they really fucked her character up.
@Smiles and the Twisted MD exactly! No woman should be put through that! This actually happened to me and I was even cordial with the woman who stole my husband! She told me to leave my husband alone making it seem like I was the side chick when I called because my daughter missed her dad. Aslaug deserved the treatment from both Lagertha and Ragnar. She could have found her own man and had the love she so desired, but no she decided to take someone who was already happily married. She not only ruined her own life, but others as well. Look at Bjorn and her own children. Nobody because of Aslaug's actions had a happy home. And she is to blame! You know what makes it worse is that she did not regret anything. She did not regret it like Ragnar did he knew he made the biggest mistake of his life and admitted it, but when you watch the scene where Lagertha comes to regain Kattegat Aslaug vindictivly hurts Lagertha by telling her he chose me and you couldn't bear him sons so I did. I mean this woman is pure evil. Lagertha was never happy after she left Kattegat and was never able to get over Ragnar. She did take her happiness, family and her home. Lagertha lost everything important to her that mattered. These things apparently do not seem important to Aslaug she only did what was best for her and at the cost of everyone's happiness. That is why Lagertha hates her so much. She took Ragnar yes, but did not really love him like Lagertha did nor try to. That is what hurts the most she broke up a happy home and didn't even feel regret about doing so!
@Smiles and the Twisted MD That's pretty dumb, she only did as she thought the gods have wanted, if Ragnar were to be faithful to Lagertha he wouldn't have slept with her. Ragnar wanted sons, sons which Lagertha couldn't give him. You're looking at Aslaug with a modern day mind. She did all she could in a time where men ruled the world, and she was more Queen and more woman than Lagertha could ever be. Lagertha was a great shield maiden, but she fancied herself a man in some ways, without doubt she would've cast away Aslaug's sons had she had the chance. Aslaug on the other hand was proud of all of them, even Björn.
She was a beautiful, driven, otherworldly woman, who was more in tune with the supernatural traditions of the vikings than the fighting traditions (she was the theater club to Ragnar and Lagertha's jock club). Her dynamic belief in her part in Ragnar's great destiny and Ragnar's own ambitions drove a wedge between him and Lagertha, so I was never wild about her, but aside from her coldness about the deaths of Athelstan and young Siggy, she was no more malevolent than any other Viking character (and much less than most). She remained proud and strong and raised four strong sons (in great part without her husband's support and sometimes with his enmity; for people of the same culture, they totally didn't get each other's dogma), and though there were definitely flaws in her parenting and leadership (especially during the Hobaerd years), as Ragnar said, she remained loyal to his legacy and honored him to his children. Their relationship was not founded on love, but the reason there is power and pathos behind this scene is that you cannot invest so many years and share a mutual love and hope for your four sons without forming a deep (if often painful and tempestuous) bond. In the end, Ragnar divided a piece of his heart when he separated from Lagertha, and it is a piece he can't get back. He invested it in a life (good and bad) with Aslaug, and you can't say it didn't mean anything in the end just because they don't have Happily Ever After or Soulmates stamped across their file. This is a bittersweet scene because you see/hear all of what has passed between them in Aslaug's face and Ragnar's voice --hurt, disillusionment and grief; gratitude, reverence and catharsis. You don't get any of those things without two hearts being linked together.
@@Agentdouble00negro Not really. He'd snap at her, throw shit around her when he was angry, he basically blamed her for not living up to being the one to bear his kids...oh yeah, and he cheated on her. Then smiled when he admitted it. But sure, he was so much better toward Lagertha.
I guess had to be the level of sincerity that made it seem all that much more powerful... And they brought in the soft tune just at the right time.. Film making at it's best moments... Plus being a fan of the show, you've lived through Ragnars ups and downs and simple scenes where he's just thinking back becomes powerful, in a sense you lived through the highlights of his life as well..
this is a beautiful scene.I always admired Aslaug. I admired her dedication to Ivor and the fact that she didn't turn her sons against their father. Even her demise was class. Arrow in the back. head held high, small smile!
Freya1824 girl shut the fuck up. I hope you hate Björn with more passion for not giving a fuck about his daughters well being like Aslaug didn’t have 4 children to take care of herself
Freya1824 oh so you don't Remember how Bjorn was not able to look in the eyes his Little girl... For what? Just because of thorunn! It's her fault, Aslaug is not to blame
Her death was very poetic. Lagertha was bound to kill her, we knew that because not only did Aslaug steal her life, she was always very smug towards her. Lagertha also respected her for what good she had done and hence, gave her a painless death and respectful send-off.
If it wasn't for this scene I would hate the writer for not giving people perspective of how aslaug was abused and treated badly by everyone. The only one who truly loves her was Ivar
Nah, at that point he planned it all, that’s why he visited Floki, Aslaug, Bjorn and Lagertha, he was trying to make amends and tell them what he couldn’t, because it did needed to be said. In fact, he was a walking corpse already.
For once i feel pity for her. Everything that has happened is because of Ragnar's fault, he grew bitter over the years because he missed his perfect little farm with Lagertha while she kept turning him down so he neglected Aslaug, the babymaker, seeing her as a living reminder of his frustrations and everything he lost and at the end he had already fulfilled his dream of having more sons so he didn't need her or cared about her anymore. She's just a victim among all his failed plans.
You totally missed the point. Lagherta didn't turn Ragnar down, it was made clear she still loved him. Everything Ragnar did was for the ambitions he had for his people, yet what it cost him was everything he cared for: his family, his friends. That's why he missed his farm, he lost the chance to be happy in pursuit of greatness. He ended up alone and miserable, and the very people he sacrificed so much for, now wanted him away, that's why he missed the simple life.
@@ladyhaevn4139 She didn't. But guess who did know Ragnar was married? Ragnar. Aslaug didn't seduce him and she didn't bewitch him. Ragnar cheated, and as a result, Aslaug grew pregnant.
One of, _my_ all-time *favorite* Ragnar scenes. He scores his true feelings to her. His compassion, honesty, and true worth. Fantastic scene. And yes, it needed to be said!
Somehow I feel bad for Aslaug. Marrying a man she didn't love, thinking it was her destiny because of her visions, getting pregnant by him, who didn't love her neither and was just horny and wanted a woman to give him sons.
Ever body likes to hate on Aslaug they feel like she is the homewrecker but in hindsight she has actually been a good woman to Ragnar. I never thought about her seeing herself with Ragnar in a vision and that it was her destiny that's why she went to bed with him. And the next day she was like I am pregnant with your child she already knew what would happen. It was actually a big sacrifice on her part.. Maybe that is why she stayed even after the abuse and abandonment. That's why I love this show the history of these people is so complex and it is so true to life. I loved Lagertha in the first few seasons and didn't like that Aslaug replaced her but I feel like Aslaug got a raw deal. She has always held down the home front for Ragnar, , Aslaug let Bjorn rule Kattegat at her side when she could have tried to put her own sons above him and like Ragnar said she never turned their boys against him. Compare that to Lagertha who never wanted to stay home and rule or raise the kids because she preferred raiding and she rules Hedeby and never thinks to give her son a bit of power. And now that Ragnar is out of Kattegat she is trying to take over never even considering she is make herself an enemy of Ragnar's sons if she harms their mother.
^ This.. I like Aslaug at first.. She was quirky talking about her father fighting off dragons and such.. And later on, got to where I was not liking her at all.... She of total different background than Lagertha... Has power through foresight than of brawn... And what you just posted is exactly why I had to upload this scene as it was the scene that broke me down the most of the whole Vikings show and probably more than any movie ever.... The only other scene that broke me down near as much was the scene where Lagertha left with Bjorn because of Aslaug's arrival... I feel I have connection with many of the characters in this show.. In the beginning I liked the fighting and more craziness.. Now it's more crazy and more fighting and I'm like I'm attached to the chars, I want more talking scenes and less fighting and they all need to stay alive.. haha. But it's Vikings.. expect deaths.. Stephen Hurst said he been wanting to do a Vikings show for a while... It was a rich story telliing period of time with only little evidence of their claims and existence.. Most lost because they were illiterate and most dying early on through war.. No time for writing, just using their weapons.. So tales came in song.. Everything I think is done right in this show.. They treat it carefully.. they allow the actors to work in their ideas.. They push the scenes further, like how can we make this much more believeable and epic without looking redundant or stupid.. And they do pull it off well... This is what I would consider an ideal arrrangement for any TV cast and crew.. Especially for the audience as well...
And I feel for Aslaug as well.. So many women want to be Lagertha and envy her strength outside but Aslaug is strong internally... I'd be happy with an Aslaug type in real life.. She never even let another man sit on his throne even after the other King came and prancied himself around talking about wanting to be King of all Norway.. Most women I see jumping in his bed.. But that wasn't the case here.. Even Lagertha was hopping in beds of English Kings.. But I think she had help from the God's in that Harbard was coming and taking care of her sexual needs and also helping her with her troubles with Ivar and such.. Besides, you couldn't deny Harbard (Odin).. And just as he said, possession is the opposite of love in that one scene...
In a sense yes.. this is also what I believe as it made her develop Kategat much more and stronger. Course, anything related to Lagertha she is bitter about somewhat.. Why I think also she neglected Bjorn's daughter.. However, I think that scene is also showing that it was hard being an orphan and being so much war during those days, orphans were probably too common and probably died from common injury or disease... Much like Ragnar thought his son Ivar would probably die so it was considered more humane to kill them earlier on... However, Rag turns the tables with Aslaug's bitterness by giving her credit where credit is due.. ..
@neoplasmax you can't say Aslaug neglected Bjorns daughter out of hate for largertha. Actual fact Bjorn is actually the son of Ragnar and Aslaug. Don't believe the whole series. Some of it is false. Like the fact that bjorn was the one who played dead to get in the city and to.open the gates. not ragnar, anyways. this is a pretty touching scene.
I've always loved Aslaug since the beginning. She knew her place, she knew how to be a Queen. She proved a capable regent when he was abscent and during those years behind the scenes before Ragnar returned, she and her sons made Kattegat from a small fishing village to a city.
@@ennonek391 neither did I. When Lagertha mourned for Hali, I kept wondering "Where was this when Siggy died?" And recall, Aslaug told Bjorn he needed to be a father to his daughter and he outright refused and never mentioned her again.
@Cam Camille Garon yeah but she got what she always dream of. having a strong husbands though it is a married man. so there you go. she should know what she wishes.
@@jsmith1214 @Nadia K Where did she _ever_ say she always dreamed of being Queen? Not once. She only said she was destined to be the one to give Ragnar sons. That's _Ragnar's_ goal, not hers. Besides, Aslaug was a _Princess_ and a beautiful one at that. She certainly would have had her pick of Kings, more importantly, ones who would have actually appreciated and loved her for herself and not being forever in love with another woman. It's not like Aslaug would not have had social influence either. Her parents were both very famous warriors. Quite frankly, Ragnar benefitted from her, _far_ more than she ever did from him.
I never hated her, I liked her, she brought a lot to the show. I don't dislike lagertha, I just find her to be arrogant at times. But she and Ragnar loved each other till the end.
Aslaug gets a _ton_ of undeserved hatred, mainly because people are pissed Ragnar and Lagertha broke up and they want to blame Aslaug for that, when it wasn't her fault at all. Aslaug made mistakes, some more horrible than others, and she wasn't perfect by any means, but the more I rewatch the show, the more I feel so much empathy and care for her. She is not treated right in this fandom, and Ragnar gets away with a _lot_ by the fans, especially when it comes to Aslaug. People literally cheered and mocked Aslaug when he hit her so hard she fell to the ground, saying she deserves to be beat. For what? For suffering his neglect, especially when he does so in favor of others? For enduring his bitterness and anger? For daring to be upset about all these things? She was wrong for how she reacted to little Siggy, but at that point, she was depressed and clearly very drunk. I doubt she fully even acknowled how dire the situation was. And with her own kids, she literally felt very guilty and had nightmares of what happened. Aslaug is no monster. People love to demonize her, but for the first few seasons, she was genuinely kind and giving and a good wife to Ragnar and very cordial and grateful toward Lagertha, as well as kind toward Bjorn, even freeing Porunn so he can make a life with her. She did not have to do these things, but she did them because she was kind. She clearly deeply loved Ragnar and her children, and it's clear here too that she needed to hear these words from him, especially after everything, including abandoning them for a whole ten years. She was crying because she had loved him so much, but he simply did not love her back, and prioritized everything and everyone over her. She was never good enough for him, just a brood mare really. So she turned to another man for comfort, and even he did not value her. So she had a mental breakdown. The only person who seemed to really need her was Ivar. So she poured all her love into him. I get her so much and I feel terribly sad for her.
But she was an abusive mother towards them, especially Ivar, whom she enabled and spoiled to the extreme. People cheered when Aslaug was slapped by Ragnar because she was badmouthing Athelstan, who was basically a surrogate sibling to Ragnar.
I don't enjoy him Slapping her but.....Remember when Athelstan came back to Kattegat in 2x9 and he said to Aslaug; "I came back because you Ragnar and all of you are my family" Then in S4 Aslaug was like "All he (Floki) did was killed a Christian" like Athelstan was just nothing. Without Athelstan; They would barely have riches and Ragnar wouldn't be as Famous as he is.
It was her fault though. He was just as much to blame, but she KNEW. Her own fault. Consequences of her own actions and decisions. She's one of the most hated characters.
The only people who like Aslaug and defend her are probably the ones who also go fuck other people's husband's and wives and then cry when they end up getting bad karma later on, from said person they committed infidelity with. Not to mention this cow was told about a child in her care being dead and she did not care. She's a trash human abomination.
crazy me He loved her in the actual sagas. The show interprets him having an undying love for lagertha, but in the sagas, even after Ivar was born, Ragnar was in love with Aslaug
I grew up in a family that was utterly ruined by parents turning the kids against the other, it messes with their heads in a bigggggg way. So this scene, shows how superior aslaug really is, by not using the kids as weapons. One day, hopefully, that will be the standard, not getting kids involved, but that's a long way away. Scene actually made me cry. The other scene that made me cry was when Ragnar and Bjorn reunite when he was an adult.
Oh, Aslaug, chained in a life that she believed she might have, having pain and emptiness for most of it without her children.....Ragnar should've treated her better and Lagertha shoudn't blame her for "loosing" her life, it was all in Ragnar
This. So many ignore what Aslaug endured with Ragnar for all those years. I'm glad this was added, because it addresses her pain and her suffering that much of the audience forgets or ignores in favor of bashing her.
Typical for a women to say yes we know women never like to hold themselves accountable for anything despite the fact that she seduced him even though he was with his son even though she was the first to be unfaithful to ragnar even though it was her neglect that led to bjorns first daughter drowning in a river and when her son siggard snake eye told her she just laughed about it lol aslaug is still the victim and we should put everything on him despite the fact that even though she was unfaithful to him he was never unfaithful to her he didn't sleep with queen kwenith in England magnus wasn't his son and he only had a platonic relationship with the asain slave it never processed to intercourse
@@letsbehonest7380 I don't think you know what cheating is, cheating isn't intercourse, cheating is kissing or being intimate with another woman, Ragnar was with multiple. Aslaug couldn't have been unfaithful at the start because she had no husband, while Ragnar had a son and wife yet decided to chest on his wife for a nice ass and pussy.
I think this is for sure the sweetest and most tender loving moment between them. I think Aslaug did love Ragnar, but soon found her new life with him wasn't everything she thought it would be. I never blamed her for having sex with Harbord, she was lonely and neglected, but at the same time she was doing the same to her own children (resulting in Siggy's drowning), and then Little Siggy's tragic neglected life and death. But deep deep down I do believe that she did love Ragnar.
just for aslaug's tribute, i think she deserve this moment from ragnar. am lagertha all the way, but the biggest and selfish mistake of lagertha is by killing her cold blood, she don't deserve to die like that.
Ragner may have loved her for his kids but he wasn't in love with aslaug at all aslaug didn't get ragner like lagertha did and aslaug wasn't his soulmate either, the only thing aslaug had going for her was those kids, she married a man who didn't love her back only loved lagertha, lagertha was his heart lagertha had his whole heart aslaug didn't have that, that why he told her love wasn't what brought us together it circumstance that brought them together,he cheated and payed the cost for it by losing the true love of his life, some men don't know what they have good until they lose it because of a stupid mistake and because of foolish behavior,he made a big mistake in hurting lagertha and it cost him his wife lagertha the only women he truly loved,he loved aslaug for the kids but never actually loved her and wasn't in love with her like she was in love with him
Season 4 dialogue is some of the greatest in TV history. "WHO WANTS TO BE KING?" "And for that I am grateful" "I am proud of you" "If anyone deserves to go to Valhalla it is you Ragnar" To Floki "I love you" "Giddy up donkey" "I was thinking of being burned alive" "Anger is a strength" "They will underestimate you, make them pay for it" "Be ruthless" "What if the gods dont exist?" "Heaven seems like such a ridiculous place, everyone is always happy" "Floki killed him out of jealousy, because I love Athelstan more" "Does that matter? His death is on my conscience" "And yours will be on mine" "But I can see you Ragnar lothbrook, I can see you" "Your gods are wrong, I fashioned my life and my death" "God are mans creation, to give answers that they are too afraid to give themselves" "It gladden me to know that Odin has prepared a feast" "There I will wait for my sons and bask in their tales of greatness" "ODIN SUMMONS ME HOME"
It's times like this when I wonder how much regret Ragnar has that he went with Aslaug. He only ever cheated on Lagertha because the gods foretold he would have many sons, but by this point, he did not believe in the gods. Therefore he lost the woman he truly loved for nothing, but I guess that's why he appreciated Aslaug not turning his sons against him, because they are all he gained from that terrible choice, so making the most of being their father probably meant a lot to him, even if he wasn't very good at it.
2:55 because Ragnar was prepared to die once he arrived in England, so before he goes there he visited one last time to those who were the most relevant to him in his life, first it was Floki since he was his best friend and the only one who lived long enough to be with Ragnar, then to Lagertha because she was his first wife, mother of his first son and the love of his life and finally to Aslaug who was his current wife and the mother of most of his sons
I don't understand people who feel pity for Aslaug. I mean she chose to come to Ragnar even though he already had a wife and a kid. She came into their lives like no big deal. She tore his family apart and chose to stay with Ragnar. She had many sons, at any moment if she wasn't happy she could go back to where she came from but she stayed with Ragnar. It was her choice, her decision. So yeah don't understand the " I feel pity for her💔" comments.
Because Lagertha was the one who brought the problems that came to her later with her impulsivity and lack of tact. If anything, Aslaug was ok with being a second wife.
Never did Ragnar tell her that he was married. He got her pregnant and it was her right as a mother to seek out the father of her child. Not to mention that Ubbe was the son of both a Princess of the Volsungs lineage and an Earl, so he was an important child. You can obviously see she was surprised when she saw Lagertha. Lagertha left and Ragnar married her and to him, she was just a pretty baby machine and only really showed affection when she did give him a new kid. She then gives birth to Ivar, a disabled child, and all of a sudden, that baby machine is broken and he started to neglect her and abuse her and degrade her so much so that she started to sleep with Harbard because she thought he may have truly loved her for her, but he didn't and then she became drunk and distant. She obviously got her shit together at some point and turned Kattegat from a small fishing village to a great city, but she suffered. Rewatch the show or just have an ounce of sympathy for a character that isn't a male.
I don't understand why people hated Aslaug she was a good queen and great mother and a good wife true she slept with another man but I can't blame her and it's vikings that's normal thing in their life
No it was not, marriage was a sacred bound between man and women plus families sometimas clans. This is some new-age wiccan shit. Stop bullshitting MY HERITAGE
I never felt bad about Ragnar treating her how he treated her. Because she got with him in the wrong circumstances like he said “we both know that love was not what brought us together” but i respect tf out of her because she kept his sons loyal to they damn daddy and that is REAL she is a REAL LIONESS 💋 with her beautiful ass
People seem to forget he treated her very well in Season 2, he just didn’t love her. It was only when she started neglecting her kids and repeatedly fucking Harbard that he was like fuck this.
Uh no, it was after she birthed Ivar. He only ever saw her as a pretty baby maker so when she gave birth to a kid with a disability, he started to become neglectful and abusive. Just rewatch the show, it's pretty obvious. Her neglecting her kids came after that when she thought that she could find love with Harbard who may have truly loved her but didn't and even then, she put them in the care of her servants and friends, so its not like she was leaving them out in the woods. The people who were supposed to look after them didn't and then they fell into the ice. How did Ragnar respond to this? By degrading her at every chance and then taking those same kids to a raid as a fuck you to Paris. To a raid. And as of Neglect, Ragnar just up and abandoned all his sons after Paris. Was she the best mother, no, but stop acting as if Ragnar was better because he was worse at every turn.
Ragnar knew he would have many sons, he also knew Lagertha would never give him another son. He may have had suspicions whether Bjorn was his or Rollo's. Both Aslaug and and Ragnar knew they were fated to be together by the Gods. They were tortured by this relationship throughout the last two seasons, Aslaug became neglectful and let Bjorn's child die. She, like Ragnar, was forced into power (though he cared about the city a bit more than she did), she knew Ivar was her only duty. The Gods wouldn't let her escape, nor would they let Ragnar. Ragnar tried to hang himself before talking to her, but the ravens said no. So we see two broken people at the ends of their ropes who have shared a very similar struggle giving a sigh of temporary relief in shared misery.
I never liked Aslaug for Ragnar. He only married her for the prospect of having more sons and she never loved him. It was a terrible mistake to leave lagertha for her and raglaug(Ragnar and Aslaug) was a loveless marriage with infidelity on both sides. Imo Aslaug was a bad woman, showing favoritism for Ivar before her other sons(there's a difference between extra care and favoritism), being partly responsible for Siggy's death and not caring when finding out that she did die. She hated Ragnar and respected him, which is why she thankfully never turned ragnar's sons against him. I appreciate that from her.
Ragnar didnt leave Lagertha, she left him. I understand that she was upset but we must remember that in that time the kings used to have more than one wife. And Lagertha couldnt be a mother again, Ragnar wanted more children and he decided that it was more important to him, but Aslaug didnt make him chose, she was ok being just a second wife in that moment. She protected more Ivar because he was a cripple, not even his father loved him at the begining, many parents are more protective with their disabled kids because they fear that they wont get much love from other people. I have a disabled brother, i´ve lived it and i have always understood that. She was responsable of Siggy but she was too broken back then, i believe that Bjorn was more responsable than her, after Porunn left he never looked at his daughter again.
I think she may have loved, was drawn to him and attracted to him. Especially in the beginning. And I think she hoped he’d love he too once she gave him his sons. Or maybe she was in love with the larger than life, bordering on mythology, reputation, fame and adulation he was garnering at that time. Of course after his death the adulation and fame returned but just before people had forgotten all his accomplishments and only remembered his failings.
While I agree with some of what you said, I think Aslaug did love him in her own way. Neglect and loneliness turned her bitter, she was actually very sweet to everyone in the beginning. And while I've never been able to fully love her for all the hurt she partly caused Lagertha, she was just following what she thought was her destiny. I don't think she took a pleasure out of "stealing" another woman's man in the way we think in the modern sense. She was a very complex character. Both great and flawed in many ways. Just like Lagertha. It's a pity she wasn't explored in more detail. I would've loved to see that teary hugging moment btwn Lagertha and Aslaug in season 2 develop into something more complex than simple female rivalry. Oh well...
Rouskey Carpel because in that epoch that was the reason for marriage. Having children, create a family. Thats why the rich or noble vikings use to have several wives. It was Lagertha' s mistake, she shouldnt have left Ragnar, Aslaug was ok being just a second wife. I believe they really like each other at the begining but he didnt care about Ivar and he acted like it was Aslaug's fault, thats when their problems started. But they cared about each other, thats why Ragnar reconciled with her and she cried, they knew it was a goodbye
@miz katstrophe no she didn't. Think about it. If she bewitched him, he would not have been able to stop himself from being with her like he had when Bjorn scolded him. And he certainly would not be still acting in love with Lagertha.
I love tragedy of everyone's story I think Ragnar is deeply affected after his daughters death I think as a young man at the time he took it particularly hard that his daughter would never be there as he said a man can grow envious of his son but a love for his daughter is pure
The bittersweet nature of "duty marriages". There's no guaranteed for love but two people make family and if love doesn't build over years then children are the only reason for staying together. I wish people in 21st century could understand this simple truth. Then there wouldn't have been such a high divorce rate and broken families.
rewatching this series and i still feel the same. aslaug was nothing more than a baby maker. and in some way, i think she knew that but still expected more. lagertha was his love. aslaug was just his way of getting sons. period. a huge turning point for ragnar was the death of the priest. aslaug boasted about floki killing him, but lagertha never would have done that. in the end, ragnar's and lagertha's hearts were in the same place.... they both wish they never left the farm.
She wanted Ragnar so bad and didn't care that she was splitting up an already existing family so as far as I'm concerned, Aslaug deserved everything she got. Including the arrow in the back from Lagertha. Although I didn't think that was a bit cowardly coming from a warrior like Lagertha.
I think some modern day women could take a few tips on not poisoning their childrens minds against their father :p And im sure some guys could use that same advice :)
My favourite heroes are the flawed ones and yes you should take advice from her because despite how neglected she was and how cold she can be she didnt turn ragnars sons against him which many single parents do. And i love how everyone hates her for cheating yet no one hates Ragnar for cheating. Aslaug was pretty much a son dispenser to Ragnar nothing more
He owed her that apology, and she needed to hear it.

Ragnar had a way with words. He knew exactly what to say to people. Because he was a genius. A brilliant mind and not just a great warrior.
probably cos he was following a well-revised script actually lol
Jimmy indeed a well written script which suits best for his character, but you can't deny ragnar's talent in delivering it with elegance.
you mean Travis Fimmel's talent?
this here has nothing to do with brilliance with words... but just honesty...
Travis is Ragnar lol

@Drama_period_time cuz truth hurts doesn't it. well many people r like that anyway one night stand -> girl got pregnant-> married -> or started to be a single mom some doesn't even get any penny to the guy who got them pregnant.....
It shouldnt sting. The seer had told her and Ragnar that their children would become infamous. Maybe at the beginning their was hope but with Ivars birth, the hope and illusion disappeared.
I believe Ragnar did love her, just not like he and Lagertha.
Stings for her yes. But the audience been knew🤣😐
What was it then?
Lust only?
Thats sad
I believe she's crying because this is the first time ragnar actually treated her like a wife, Rather than a concubine.
This is sad :(
To be fair, she did force herself into this kind of relationship.
@@samflynn97 Yea but still. Ragnar is just messed up

She got the status but for what?? Ragnar barely came home, slept with other women often, and treated her like shit. Even smacked her when she yelled at him once.
@@lionspride4821
When did Ragnar ever claim that he has any love for her?
After watching this scene I realized my hatred for Asalug lacked perspective.
Amen
@Smiles and the Twisted MD
Like I said my hatred lacked perspective lol.
Great summing up of the scene. It almost makes me feel sorry for Aslaug.

Her death was very poetic. Lagertha was bound to kill her, we knew that because not only did Aslaug steal her life, she was always very smug towards her. Lagertha also respected her for what good she had done and hence, gave her a painless death and respectful send-off.
This scene wasn't suppose to be in the show but because Travis Fimmel, he gave us such a powerful scene. Made me tear up a bit.
If it wasn't for this scene I would hate the writer for not giving people perspective of how aslaug was abused and treated badly by everyone. The only one who truly loves her was Ivar

what a beautiful scene I think Ragnar has seen his death coming..
Well he did go to England to get himself killed and have his sons avenge him
At that point Ragnar was planing on suicide
Nah, at that point he planned it all, that’s why he visited Floki, Aslaug, Bjorn and Lagertha, he was trying to make amends and tell them what he couldn’t, because it did needed to be said. In fact, he was a walking corpse already.
This couldn't have been written any better. What an amazing scene!
He forgot to say sorry....
She is an insanely talented actress, she was great in the show
For once i feel pity for her.
Malía Rodriguez - SO 👏🏼 WELL 👏🏼 SAID 👏🏼
Malía Rodriguez She's the one who seduced Ragnar knowing he was married, she's just at fault for this as Ragnar is.

@@lu4212 The one with their old farm was when he got betrayed by Rollo right??
The scene with his family at the farm and when he went to say goodbye to his daughter. These were the most powerful Ragnar scenes for me.
And just as he said, possession is the opposite of love in that one scene...
yes excactly finehair wanted to be king of old norway and aslaug told him you have to overthrow my husband ''ragnar''
this scene was so powerfull
Loved this scene! Kinda make me feel sorry for Aslaug... Deep down I think she always waited for Ragnar

The way she cringes when he first starts touching her. Smh
Yeaa Ragnar did a number on her.

True! Most of Game Of Thrones characters are way better than the ones from Vikings but no one from GoT gets close to Ragnar
Such a beautiful scene.
And indeed, Lagertha fostered contempt for Ragnar, but Aslaug didn't.
I don't enjoy him Slapping her but.....Remember when Athelstan came back to Kattegat in 2x9 and he said to Aslaug; "I came back because you Ragnar and all of you are my family"
Then in S4 Aslaug was like "All he (Floki) did was killed a Christian" like Athelstan was just nothing.
She knew what she was doing and used magic to gain him.
"That's nice...but you still can't take Ivar"

Kathryn Orozco it doesn't matter. This show is just a soapopera and Ragnar is real; he is a mixture of kings. Bjorn is Aslugs son in real life.

This scene is painfully beautiful
Oh, Aslaug, chained in a life that she believed she might have, having pain and emptiness for most of it without her children.....Ragnar should've treated her better and Lagertha shoudn't blame her for "loosing" her life, it was all in Ragnar
This. So many ignore what Aslaug endured with Ragnar for all those years. I'm glad this was added, because it addresses her pain and her suffering that much of the audience forgets or ignores in favor of bashing her.
Lagertha's main flaws are her impulsivity and lack of tact. Half of the problems and hardships she endured were because of her own impulsivity.
I'm grateful to you..that's deep very deep
She never have Ragnar kids turns
against him so I give
Her credit for that.
Tim Dane she should have done this earlier
Ragnar finally appreciated her for giving him life and love, it's his way of him telling her that he loved her. This part gets me. :'(
Ragner may have loved her for his kids but he wasn't in love with aslaug at all aslaug didn't get ragner like lagertha did and aslaug wasn't his soulmate either, the only thing aslaug had going for her was those kids, she married a man who didn't love her back only loved lagertha, lagertha was his heart lagertha had his whole heart aslaug didn't have that, that why he told her love wasn't what brought us together it circumstance that brought them together,he cheated and payed the cost for it by losing the true love of his life, some men don't know what they have good until they lose it because of a stupid mistake and because of foolish behavior,he made a big mistake in hurting lagertha and it cost him his wife lagertha the only women he truly loved,he loved aslaug for the kids but never actually loved her and wasn't in love with her like she was in love with him
This is the only Asalug and Ragnar moment I have ever and will ever appreciate. It was beautiful.
I have been waiting for this :)
Season 4 dialogue is some of the greatest in TV history.
"WHO WANTS TO BE KING?"
"And for that I am grateful"
"I am proud of you"
"If anyone deserves to go to Valhalla it is you Ragnar"
To Floki "I love you"
"Giddy up donkey"
"I was thinking of being burned alive"
"Anger is a strength"
"They will underestimate you, make them pay for it"
"Be ruthless"
"What if the gods dont exist?"
"Heaven seems like such a ridiculous place, everyone is always happy"
"Floki killed him out of jealousy, because I love Athelstan more"
"Does that matter? His death is on my conscience"
"And yours will be on mine"
"But I can see you Ragnar lothbrook, I can see you"
"Your gods are wrong, I fashioned my life and my death"
"God are mans creation, to give answers that they are too afraid to give themselves"
"It gladden me to know that Odin has prepared a feast"
"There I will wait for my sons and bask in their tales of greatness"
"ODIN SUMMONS ME HOME"
"How the piglets will squeal, when they hear how the old boar died"
Asluag: why re u saying this now
Ragnar: because it needed to be said.
That got me. What a farewell
Ragnar had words for everyone is his last days. Floki, Aslug, Lagertha… etc. and everyone one of them cried; even me,
THIS SCENE IS SO EMTIONAL😭
This was ragnar appreciating the one simple promise made to him. Auslag promised him many sons and she delivered.
He never loved Lagertha...
@@hannahdyson5603 Did u not watch the show he loved that woman dearly
This is one of the best scene
2:55 because Ragnar was prepared to die once he arrived in England, so before he goes there he visited one last time to those who were the most relevant to him in his life, first it was Floki since he was his best friend and the only one who lived long enough to be with Ragnar, then to Lagertha because she was his first wife, mother of his first son and the love of his life and finally to Aslaug who was his current wife and the mother of most of his sons
Even among the hardest people you can find tenderness.
Scenes like this is why we love Vikings. Beautiful scene while also being beautifully acted/directed. Thanks for uploading.
I don't understand why people hated Aslaug she was a good queen and great mother and a good wife true she slept with another man but I can't blame her and it's vikings that's normal thing in their life
No it was never a normal thing to sleep around, stop this 'hippiefication' of my ancestors. Cheating was not the normal thing..
Steve Hansson its normal in that time
No it was not, marriage was a sacred bound between man and women plus families sometimas clans. This is some new-age wiccan shit. Stop bullshitting MY HERITAGE
nope its normal thing in their life , they doesn't even believes in god they don't care about these things
Are you stupid? Cant you read?
This was all she wanted to hear. All she wanted was validation and he finally gave it to her.
This scene is in my top 5 scenes of the entire series
What a beautfiul supermodel.
some of you girls today can Learn a lesson from the Queen. Soon as ya get mad at a man ya wanna turn his kids against him.
Ramel Robinson true
Did you not hear the part where he said he turned his sons against her?
First need to be a dad present and you know thats clearly still hard for some!
@@lacemitchell9895 Did you hear that part where he said "But you never turned my sons against me."
Wow, he is really cleaning up shop....for his departure to never return. "The truth will set you free".
This is one of my favorite scenes
I never felt bad about Ragnar treating her how he treated her. Because she got with him in the wrong circumstances like he said “we both know that love was not what brought us together” but i respect tf out of her because she kept his sons loyal to they damn daddy and that is REAL she is a REAL LIONESS 💋 with her beautiful ass
Truly a beautiful scene.
Most beautiful scripting..
What a talented, beautiful, enigmatic woman
People seem to forget he treated her very well in Season 2, he just didn’t love her. It was only when she started neglecting her kids and repeatedly fucking Harbard that he was like fuck this.
Exactly...
@@sarahalzubaidi7794 she was spoiled and entitled. The only thing she was good for was making babies. She made her bed 🛌
This was so powerful!!!
Aslaug did more to Ragnar than lagertha.
kasim hyder delivered sons and ruined his life and made RAGNAR part from his life
exactly
Miss you Ragnar lothbrok
Whats even more touching and tragic, is that this is the last time they ever see each other.
Ragnar sneaking silently like a ninja
Most disrespectful apology ever not love that brought us together 😂
I love this scene...
Aslaug is perfect, her and Ragnar were the reasons I was watching the show. She is so complex, unpredictable and stunning. Shame both are gone now.
rewatching this series and i still feel the same. aslaug was nothing more than a baby maker. and in some way, i think she knew that but still expected more. lagertha was his love. aslaug was just his way of getting sons. period. a huge turning point for ragnar was the death of the priest. aslaug boasted about floki killing him, but lagertha never would have done that. in the end, ragnar's and lagertha's hearts were in the same place.... they both wish they never left the farm.
Underrated scene
So much emotions
Ivar is such a mamma's boy.
Not anymore lmao!
She wanted Ragnar so bad and didn't care that she was splitting up an already existing family so as far as I'm concerned, Aslaug deserved everything she got. Including the arrow in the back from Lagertha. Although I didn't think that was a bit cowardly coming from a warrior like Lagertha.
She needed to hear that so bad
He was like: you are a cool mom but that hArbbard stunt was a floozy
That’s gotta be some level of rizz it seem like she was going to be mad at him but she was speechless
Love that scene.
the music in the background called Making Peace by Trevor Morris
Both of them never loved each other. Ragnar loved Lagertha and Auslag loved Harbard
Ugi XXI and lagertha also loved RAGNAR
Ragnar never loved Lagertha ....
Ragnar did love Lagertha but he loved himself more, hence why he prioritized his legacy over her.
I think some modern day women could take a few tips on not poisoning their childrens minds against their father :p And im sure some guys could use that same advice :)
yeah, modern day women, take a few tips from a woman that cheated and let a children die
and modern people dont cheat? or neglect children? Got no sympathy for Ragnar when it comes to Aslaug, he treated her like shit
Jeffe McDougal so they should take advice? pfff ok lol
My favourite heroes are the flawed ones and yes you should take advice from her because despite how neglected she was and how cold she can be she didnt turn ragnars sons against him which many single parents do. And i love how everyone hates her for cheating yet no one hates Ragnar for cheating. Aslaug was pretty much a son dispenser to Ragnar nothing more
Ragnar is also wrong for cheating. But Aslaug is still the biggest piece of shit in this series
Am I the only one who thought she thought he might kill her up until “but you’ve endured me”? Watch her face lol
Suddeenly i feel how bad the things were between that couple.
She deserved more credit for his part.
Desearía haber podido tener esta conversación con mi padre antes de su partida. Descansa en paz José
