I don't need a solar generator but love to watch the HOBOTECH vids for the sound effects, slight sarcasm and comedic mood. Just the best.
I love the Rammstein bang bang, Feuer frei! effect
Was checking RUclips every 2hrs when i found out you were going to do a review on this since i bought one about 4 months ago and i figured the claim of a LiFePo4 battery was a bit of a crap shoot. Super rad of you to do a tear down to get to core of the matter. Once again sir your review covered everything i needed to hear and did a brief dance when i found out the batteries where indeed LiFePo4. Props to the Professor!
Bought one of these in Feb 2021. Within 3 months, the led screen started going blank. When I contacted the company, they asked for a video of it going blank. They sent a new replacement with a good screen after I sent them the video.
Did you just send them a short video on GMail or whatever? My GMail won't support a long video. My brother's Hotmail will not support a long video, either.
@@TheDesertwalker My email won`t support video, but when companies want video proof of the issue and I mention uploading to RUclips and sending a link they panic.
why'd that happen in the first place?

Hands down best review channel on YT.
So glad you took it apart! That's the one thing I was waiting for in this video since I already own one of these. Thanks for your thorough work!
I was waiting for this. I met all the things the professor suggested we get so when I saw it I knew I had to buy it.
Thanks professor hobo for your great instructions and information. I've learned so much!
I bought this several months back and have been very happy with it, but I was still waiting on your review to co-sign on the choice! Thank you Sir! 😁
I bought the 300 watt unit on sale for 199 and was pretty impressed. I hope they make a larger one with decent price point. Jackery and goal zero prices are out of control
I have had it for a month, liked it so much I also bought the GOLABS150 which is about half the size but still includes the 60wUSB C PD. I am mac based and these are both fabulous because of the USB C, the small one slips into a backpack for overnighters and has the light on the side which is great because it works like a flashlight. Now $130 online. I use the TISHI HERY 120W panel which works fine and includes USB C outputs for directly charging my APPLE stuff. All three together make a nice light, triple redundancy weekend travel getup, $500 plus tax- Amazing what you can get now.
thank you sooo much. i need to run a guitar amp in my class c for practice. this video has been a savior, i really appreciate your reviews...your the best man!
Opening up the units is a great addition to your review!
I'm glad you've added the interference/amp noise test to your arsenal man! Thank you!
Agreed!! And I have a feeling yours will be one of the more popular comments!! Great call, Tom! 😎
Just got one for a CPAP backup. I have a Resmed Airsense 10. It only used 23% of a charge for 8 hours of sleep with the humidifier and heating off. Thanks Hobotech for the review and the discount.
Prof. Hobo you rock with interference test. I keep coming to this channel for measurable reviews! I'm an amateur radio operator and the radios are sensitive to interference noise.
Great review! Loved that you addressed the specific needs of ham radio users.
I picked one up for a hundo off and a rockpals 100 watt solar panel for a buck thirty two as an Amazon return. $332 bucks for the complete rig. WINNING!!
Competition keeps driving the prices down - good for consumers. Looks like a solid “entry level” unit for a lot more people to wade into portable energy.
A very through review. Hit all my questions. Buying!! Thank you Hobotech !! 💯
Thank you for review. I pulled the trigger on this solar generator and thank you for the discount.
Thank you SO much for this! It helped me make my choice. I got a STEAL on a returned R300, in "Very good" condition for $90! All seems to work well. I bought a Dokia 100w suitcase panel w/ a 12v controller to go with it, for $97 shipped because of a $40 Xmas coupon! The hard part was first understanding the specs I needed to pay attention to for a match, then matching up the open current voltage VOC of a solar panel kit that wouldn't exceed the R300s 22.6 voltage limit. You totally helped me with that. SUBBED! I'm feeling pretty stoked about the setup. Thanks, HOBOOTECH!
I THINK I LOVE YOU! Never stop doing this! you're info helped me learn SO MUCH. Not only educating but SO entertaining!
I absolutely love this guy, He's so funny, Your a genius bro, Good job.. I wouldn't of wanted a review from anyone else.. I can't wait until mine arrives.. thanks for all the testing and everything you saved so much research and time for me. I appreciate you HOBO Dude! Peace!
wow, this review filled in all the questions I had. I wasn't sure about buying one of these from a new seller on Amazon but this is amazing.
Still love my Jackery. Used it Memorial Day when the power went out. Great review!
We ordered a Westinghouse 500w unit twice from Home Depot. Had to send them both back immediately because they were both defective. We ended up getting a Jackery. We used it on a camping trip and it didn't perform as well as we would have liked. It will run a small space heater for 2 hours. It's definitely better than nothing for running a small hot plate and recharging some things but I hope people don't expect too much for the money. We also purchased a portable solar panel for it, so for both it was just under $1,000.
Hey I just want you to know your reviews are awesome man. It may not seem like much but myself and many others are thankful. What I'm saying is, thank you...
Thanks for the in-depth review as always! I knew I made a good decision being an early buyer of this. I’m glad you found the upper AC limit on this. I only tested mine to empty using what I would use:: a 250w space heater which runs about 260w. I’ll keep it, because for higher wattage needs I have several larger units. They all have a purpose. I love this as one of my smaller unit options.
Thanks for the tear down and proof of LiFePo4 cells!
LiFePO4 are actually a type of lithium ion battery (I think?).
Thank you Professor, picked up one, will be my 4th solar generator!
Great review thank you. I purchased one of these in February when there were hardly any reviews, and so far so good. For $279 CAD it would have been rude not to.
Been using mine for months. Huge bang for the buck
I order mine this morning. Thanks for a great review!
Thank you for including the RFI test.
Man this guy is great such in depth info, wish I’d found him before, makes a really uninteresting subject wanting more more more, will certainly be back, I knew what two and subscribed.
Great review! Thank you for real budget item review
Great review, Professor! I took a chance and ordered one for $199 when you gave us the heads-up before Memorial Day weekend. I’m glad it got a solid verdict. I charged mine to full with a 60w solar panel at 50w. I’ll be using it camping this week for a c-pap machine. I’m pleased with the build quality for the price so far.
How many nights can you run the cpap?
Hey..great review, thanks; you helped me decide on the R300. For any musical people out there, today I powered my 40 watt guitar amp (Victory Duchess head through a 1x12” cab) and an 8-pedal board( mostly analog 9 volters, a Strymon Flint, and an 18 volt eq) on the amp’s full power setting for 3 solid hours and an hour of standby between sets. Volume was pretty loud for the room (avg 86 db @ 1 meter, peaking at 101 or so). Started at full charge, ended at 71%…so..not even a third used. I sensed absolutely zero issues with the pedals or amp behaving strangely, and the R300 never even got warm, though the fan did turn on and off..could hardly hear it even when music stopped. Great! Solid. Thanks again.Cee
Purchased one of these after your review. Charged it up and waited for a power outage to use it. It sat in the corner and I checked the charge every month. Fast forward after the warranty expired, which is one year, the thing starts beeping every 3 minutes, then it went dark, no response. Sheeeesh, I never got to use it. Great product sir. Tried going on the manufacture website and voice a complaint and the website would not let me because I was a robot?? WTF....
Seems like a great value to power a 12v fridge/cooler when paired with a cheap solar panel for emergencies or a trip.
This was a fantasticly thorough review
Very good review, thank you!
I was actually confused on if the GoLabs power stations offered faster charging. The different power stations from all the brands look alike, so thanks for setting the record straight. This was a great comprehensive review, unlike others on RUclips who claimed to "review" it minutes after unboxing it.
Great deal. Thx for bringing it to us. Purchased.
Just got mine today. It came with a 52% charge on the battery. Plugged it into an ac wall outlet and it took 2 hours 50 minutes to 100% charge. So roughly half charge in just under three hours. I like it. Plus with shipping it cost $244, a very sweet deal indeed!
Planning to get a Bouge RV fridge/freezer now that there's a capable and affordable power station to run it. No more costly and messy bags of ice in the cooler. Thanks Hobo for showing us how to make van living so much more comfortable and affordable.
I love your battery capacity tests!
Picked it up a few days ago on Amazon for $170 after a new coupon. At that price point, I don’t think anything compares. Your review was EXTREMELY helpful in setting my “this is too cheap to be worthwhile” mind at ease. :)
EDIT: 1y later, still holding up great.
I guess if I’d seen this review before I bought mine I would probably have not purchased it. Obviously I got lucky and it’s been a year since I bought it and it still works fine but yeah.
My jackery 240 laughs at this
@@JeffSh00ts Weird flex, since the Jackery 240 is behind in every way, including price.
This channel has the best testing methods!
I did pick up this up in Nov. 2021, as they had a deal on Amazon combining this with the GoLabs 100W solar panel. The deal was decent at the time with the solar panel costing $10 less than it does currently on Amazon (Dec 2023) and the power station got it for $230 Cdn. This was my first experience with power stations and solar, and I’m a lot more knowledgeable now. I think from a price point it was definitely a good buy, especially for back 2 yrs ago. Everything on it still works, and I use it now with my SetPower PT45 (45L) dual zone fridge where I get 20+ hrs out of it (so perfect for 2-4 day trips). If only this thing charged at a faster rate, then it would be perfect to use for a week of over-landing. But I’m happy that the price point is still low, even for today’s market, especially since i only use the DC ports on it. For bigger inverter loads, I recently picked up the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max, and added a DC/DC Victron to my 4Runner so now I’m good for traveling 1-2 weeks at a time.
ALWAYS GREAT REVIEWS...THANK YOU!👍
Tom, Love your extensive product testing videos. Just a minor thing: at 10:30 you mentioned it being a 5525 port, I think it’s a 5521.
Thanks for adding the switching hash noise test. I've been wondering about this since at some point I'm sure I'll try running my ham transciever on whichever I get.
I think it would be fine with ham equipment as long as you don't turn on the inverter. Use DC ports only.
Appreciate this one. I had my self all set-up with a panel/portable power from Overland Solar. Someone broke into my car and stole the portable power, and Overland Solar does not appear to be offering these any more, and I need something to replace it !! Appreciate the discount offer, worked just fine for me a few minutes ago 6/12/21. Thanks.
Nice review. Full of good details.
Thank you for doing the amp test with interference very interesting!
Another fine review thanks
Great job! Thanks for all of the very detailed information :)
We love the teardown thanks.
Thank you, Thomas, for the tear-down and batt verification... Ecoflo + Amp = 'white noise' and 'OK' to use... GoLabs + Amp = 'Trouble' and Do Not Use Under Any Circumstances'..... Did I miss the outcome of the vac pass-though/charging test..?? The 100% no mail-back replacement for 1 year is what is 'regulating' the max input voltage (smart for them).. Interestingly, with high input voltage applied, this BMS will show an error and save itself. Just about all the others in this price range/output will instantly burn up and become a paper weight (BTDT).. It was the reason why I held my nose & purchased the J 300 to backup the AC50s. Admittedly, the LiFePO4 of the GL is a good thing... Thanks again, 'Professor'..
Thanks for the amp test, for us rockers out here!!
Thanks a lot for your review !!!
Greatly appreciated !! Made me decide to pull the trigger on this unit.
Don’t know if it’s because I am in Canada or if it’s because Amazon already had a discount on it, but your code didn’t work... ohh well, still an excellent purchase !!
Keep up the great work !!
Deal is only for USA.
It's really great to have this audio test (starts at 15:34) has it is never mentioned in other reviews and tests I read/watched so far! However, there maybe a flaw in this test since I noticed that the GoLabs is located much closer to the test amp than the EcoFlow. Since ac inverters are switching type of circuits, they generate electromagnetic noise by nature so the noise we can hear in the amp's speaker might be due to EM emissions and not conduction (via the amp's power cord) and, if it is the case, the distance between the inverter and amp (and even the relative orientation of the generator relative to the amp) is a major factor in the level of noise the amp might output! I would like to suggest to redo the amplifier test with both power generators located a the same distance as the EF in the video! I know it's a long comment, so thanks for reading ;)
I appreciate the amp test and the comedy 🙂
Take them all apart Tom!! It shows all the details. Another great review!
You're awesome. Thanks for this insanely indepth review. Instant sub✅👌🏾🍻
Thanks for the review. Just ordered from Amazon Canada for $399.99 cdn with $100 cdn off. Ships from Canada, sold and shipped by Gotrax will arrive in a week or so. Cheers
Just pulled the trigger for this. It's again at $199 and I haven't found a competitor with a better bang for your buck. Hopefully it lasts many years! Thanks for your review!
What a review! Thank you!
I love your videos, they are very well done and informative. But FYI, most ham radios will run off the 12 volt ports. Maybe larger 10 meter rigs run off 110 but from my experience most if not all vhf/uhf radios are made to be installed in a vehicle so they run directly off 12 volts. Keep up the great work.
I just love your reviews!!!!!!
For me the purchase was due to the USB c charging. I love it.
Great review!! Thanks!! 👍
Really great and thorough review there Professor, and it helps out low tech dummies
like me, make it a lot easier to understand and buy one of these. Best reviews I've seen,
but would like to see you hook up solar panels to them, and harness the free Sun energy.
I notice you say in your video, you can only use 100 -110 watt solar panels, which did
answer my question about which type and power levels of sun panels are compatible.
Enjoyed the video ( from Canada)
Just bought one for my iceco 30l, seems like a great deal for $199 thanks for the discount code
Thanks for review, purchased one.
Blown away, literally, via my GoLabs 300. My CPAP runs on 12v and I got a wonderful 7 nights out of it without recharging.
Seven hours later and they're already sold out. Lol. Great review, Tom. 👍
Not sold out.
@@HOBOTECH not under @199 either.
It was $199 when I posted. I'm working with the company to find out why.
@@HOBOTECH That's so weird. When I click on your Amazon link in Brave browser, which is what I use to watch youtube, it thinks I'm in Germany. So yeah, they're sold out in Germany. Lol. Sorry I didn't notice that it did that. I copy/pasted the link into Firefox and it went to the US Amazon and indeed it's in stock and listed for $299. But then they have a $80 coupon for it. 🤔
They have UPGRADED it!!! You need to take another look. The NEW one has a cover over the cigarette lighter port. I was able to draw 325 watts for 30 minutes on the new one.
Good information. I bought one. Thanks for the technical information.
Great little product for us who work from our vehicles.
What a great review, HT. I think BTTF is right on, man. I think electronic types like a flawless protagonist.
Really appreciate and trust your reviews.
I like that you did an interference test, I'm a ham radio guy and that was important to me! I have a Bluetti EB70 coming this week and wonder how that will do. I may have to get some torroids to combat the RFI if that produces some hash.
Wow, as a fellow EE, you are very professional.
I've got a lot of experience with RF noise being picked up in audio signal. You have to test with the identical wires and placement each time and maybe do a far and close test to see how far/loud the RF noise is for this to be useful testing. If you moved the Golabs further from the amplifier you might get less audible buzzing noise considering you compared the noise to the other solar generator farther away from the amplifier. Different areas of your room will also change results.
Great review - Thanks!!
just have to say why don't this guy have more subs..the best review in youtube i must say
I just subscribed and love you content. It would be great if you could put a spreadsheet on your page listing the pros / cons, features, and your recommended picks for these in different sizes. It is so confusing trying to pick one of these. Thanks for your work.
Been waiting for this review. I picked mine up about 6 months ago at the discounted price of $200. Really can't beat it for the money.
You're amazing! Hilarious and really informative. Thank you!
One concern I would have is the output waveform of the inverter. If you really need pure sine wave output it's not even a 200W inverter. 100W looks good based on the waveforms shown in the video, though I'd like to see it thrown on a THD analyzer to be sure.
The fact that no power conversion is used on the 12V output is great for ham radio. That inverter may be noisy but you won't be using it, which means it won't be generating RF noise. A 4S LFP pack is the Goldilocks battery for most radio applications; the output voltage is Just Right. BUT... the lack of regulation on the DC outputs means that they are likely to be noisy if you are charging the battery, which could matter to some; this is not a battery that will support charging while in use for radio. Charging it while also using the USB charging outputs other than the 60W port should be fine, though you may not get much net charge if you load those down.
The 10A maximum DC power is disappointing. Most LFP batteries in the 20 Ah range can handle 20A out; you've not going to get that much power for very long but it is useful once in a while. That means it can't, for example, run a typical VHF/UHF mobile ham radio at full power output. (For example, my Kenwood TM-V71A may need up to 13A.) Nor can it run a typical HF radio at full output, which may need 20A or more.
All in all, it's a great battery for a portable radio operator who uses low power and needs something more flexible than a bare battery. Built-in solar charging, bidirectional USB-PD charging support, quick charge for older mobile devices without USB-PD, and the inverter all add value. The carry weight of 9 pounds is reasonable, considering that the battery alone represents 6 pounds or so of that based on the weight of other LFP batteries.
great vid! i love the McGyver vibe music at 6:06.
Thank you Robotech, I got mine a few days ago. I bought it to charge devices when dry camping and not wanting to run a smelly, noisy Harbor Freight generator. The added bonus is this unit will power my vintage electrically heated jacket and glove liners for motorcycling in cold weather. I had the liners laying on a couch and plugged into the R300 for 3.5 hours with the heat controller at the half way point. The jacket liner was at 115F and the glove liners at 112F. Together the jacket and glove liners were pulling 93 watts, my bike only has an output of 175 watts total. The R300 will easily fit under the seat of my Yamaha Xmax 300 scooter. After 3.5 hours the R300 was down to %66 capacity.
HOBO-tech. Duh!
For clarification for people who think the battery is incorrectly labeled, Lithium Iron Phosphate or LiFePO4 is a Lithium-ion battery technology just like Lithium Cobalt Oxide, Lithium Manganese Oxide, Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide, Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide, and Lithium Titanate. They are all classified as Lithium-ion battery technologies. Even though they all have vastly different characteristics they all still store and transfer charge via Lithium ions.
Okay, I'm sold, ordered one today, $100 coupon still works, total price $215. Thanks.
I picked up one of these to supplement my Bluetti AC50s for my DIY camper minivan. Should help me keep the fridge running if I'm camping in a shady spot for a few days.
David, Is the charge port on the Bluetti and the Golabs the same? The center pin looks larger on the Golabs.
@@stuartstuart866 nope. Very annoyingly they different. GoLabs uses 5.5mm x 2.1mm and the Bluetti is the 8mm.

Great review, I purchased this solar power station for emergency power outages.
Hello Professor hobo,
Just wanted to bring up a couple things, first off, I am glad to see you do a noise test, so far this is a first, I have not seen anyone else do that, however that being said, I would love to see you do that on all of your reviews, and it would be great to see that taken even further, not just with an amplifier, but with an HF receiver, to look at spectral anomaly's across the amateur radio bands. This would also give us a bit of an idea, as to how well the various ones of these units might be at withstanding and EMP event, which is based on careful design and good shielding.
One thing I noticed when you were testing the amplifier, I was unable to see the other unit well enough to see if it had actual grounded receptacles, or just 2 pin receptacles with a hollow spot for the ground pin like the Golabs does, because I think if you were to use one of those ground pin adapter plugs, and run a jumper between the ground wire on the adapter and the ground or negative side of the battery, which would be the outside of the cigarette lighter socket, you would find that the noise disappears, and also, speaking of the cigarette lighter socket, sense there is no regulation circuitry, and it can provide 10 amps of current, could it not also receive 10 amps of charge current, of course you would have to provide external current and voltage limiting, but it could allow you to charge at upto 120 watts?
Thank you professor!! I did win a nickel today lol!!! I yelled out the answer 6 hours. Love this review, it helped me make my decision.
Back in stock ! Great price !
