With more than 120 years of history behind her, it's no surprise that this Victorian masterpiece has had its share of ghostly guests.
Though supernatural stories abound, most have to do with Kate Morgan, a beautiful young woman who checked into the hotel in 1892 - and never checked out. After spending five lonely and lovesick days waiting for a man who never arrived, Kate was found dead on an exterior staircase leading to the beach. Kate had a gunshot wound to her head, which the San Diego County Coroner later determined was self-inflicted (some skepticism still surrounds this finding).
Today, Kate's spirit seems to have remained at The Del, where she tends to occupy her former guestroom. But her beautiful vision -- and ghostly pranks -- can be experienced throughout the rambling resort and grounds.

I had watched a Documentary on this place several decades ago. Since then, a tea company, of all things, told me the name of it again, as I had forgotten it, yet I immediately recognized the name. That, oddly enough, brings me here. I had heard a lot about the Hauntings there. And May I say, that it's gorgeous. The Victorian Architecture is beautiful.

Thanks for your comment! While of course there are no guarantees anything paranormal will happen, we do get many stories of strange things happening in our "haunted room". Usually things like something being moved, strange smells, the bathroom light turning on, etc. Many film crews have experienced "technical difficulties" when in that room, like Kate doesn't want to be filmed. Not many have actually captured something on camera though, so we'd be curious to hear what happens. Good luck!

@chonaV Thank you for your comment. Actually, Kate Morgan was a guest of the resort in 1892. She was not a prostitute. The resort published a book a few years ago with all of the historical information if you are interested in learning more about her story!

We stayed in rm# 4138 Easter Week 2015. I have kept it a secret because i did not want to scare my children but each of the 4 nights we slept there the bathroom light would turn itself on. The first night I actually woke up moments before It came on. I could hear the switch click (it's a button switch that you press on/off) I looked and saw everyone sleeping in their beds and went to use the bathroom and turn the light off. The next night it happened again twice. By the last night I was just getting pissed having to get up to turn the light off. I am a skeptic and kept telling myself it was a switch problem but the weird thing is . . . . We never came back to the room after spending all day away to find the bathroom light on. It would only turn itself on at night after everyone fell asleep.

I was there this week and that place is amazing! I shot my own video of the haunted areas, plus my room. I had my own experience. My bathroom light would come on by itself at night. It did that two nights in a row. I was staying in room 3531, which is near room 3519 and 3502. I also went and checked out room 3327, which is the room Kate Morgan stayed and I also checked 3312, which all claimed to be haunted. So it was definitely a cool place.
How much is a night there? I was there back in 2008 but I just came in to take a look. I didn't stay at the hotel and back then I didnt know about Kate's story.
I stayed for 3 nights. Paid, $1500-ish. A bit pricy but a nice place though. Check it out and let me know whatcha think.

@hollywoodundeadboo Thank you for viewing our video. Guests often come to us with reports of strange experiences, like the light turning on or something moving by itself. But Kate is a friendly ghost! She likes to play tricks. If you are worried, you can choose to stay in the Ocean Towers or California Cabanas guestrooms because those are in a different building. We hope you do come to visit us :).

Went to a wedding back in 1981 when I was 10 years old and me and 2 of my cousins were walking down a long hallway on the bottom floor and a green leather ball with white stars rolled past us on the floor. One of my cousins picked it up and threw it. Nobody was there. We walked outside and the same ball came rolling outside. We split.

Shortie told me that it's all bullshit. I worked there for a couple of years and there were incidents where weird shit would happen, but if Shortie says it's fake, it's fake. Either that or the ghosts didn't mess with Shortie. If you worked at the Del from 1954 to 2010, you know who Shortie was.
