I've seen far too many people who "know everything" and love nothing more than to call people out. Many of us have been on a popular military truck site and have encountered a certain moderator who like to make it known he knows everything and we know nothing. I would far rather educate to what I have experience with and first hand knowledge of than start running off at the mouth with what I've heard or read.

When you were talking about running gasoline in this engine, I think you may be mistaken as to the operation of this engine. It's very similar to a diesel as you know from your extensive knowledge of the IP however the IP operation, the injectors, and the pistons in this engine are designed to burn the fuels differently than a regular diesel. It's called hypercycle operation which is why the fuel is injected in at 20 degrees BTDC. The fuel is injected into a special dish inside the piston where the fuel evaporates to be burned rather than atomization by the injector. Just thought you might like to know why it was designed that way.

Actually, many multifuel motors have had their cranks snapped when people run gasoline. This is experience not guessing and not ramblings. As I like to tell people, your truck do as you wish but be warned.

Also, being a multifuel and being able to run gasoline in the engine is why the IP has supplemental oil flow instead of just being diesel lubricated.

Open up the HH, hydraulic head, and you will see there is oil at the gear but not in the compression piston. The piston itself only gets lubed by the fuel, it's not oiled any other way. I'll try to get a video made to show that.

You can actually start the engine without that side cover on?

You can have the truck running with the fuel cut off cover open? It doesn't kick oil everywhere?
The tm just said torque specs and gap tolerance. What's this procedure you said you would have to inform the new owner of the pump about because you replaced that o-ring?

If you tighten those two screws down to "torque spec" you will have an issue. The only proven way is to do it a little at a time and make sure you still have play. Yes you can have the cover open and no oil will not spray everywhere. Yes there is a very small amount of oil there but nothing of note.

Okay. I just replaced the o-rings on my hh and I tighten those screws until it would just be able to bounce back everytime I moved it. I thought that would be enough but maybe I've gone to far. I've been looking around on Steel soldiers and now saw this video and I'm thinking it's just a little too tight.
The truck drives and runs good but when I go into neutral at a stop sign it's rpms drop so low it almost stalls. Sometimes it's hard to start. Was working just fine before all this.

I pulled it off and started the truck and ran just fine. I think the gasket makes I put on it was touching it somewhere. It oozed inside a little. I need to test drive it when I get a chance. Thanks for the tip about the oil not leaking out while running. Helped me examine it.

Thanks for this video! SS has some great info, but you can't beat seeing it being done. Two questions, if you run the truck with the cover open, how do you shut the truck off? What if the truck goes into a "high idle" and you have to shut it down quickly? And what position is the plunger on the shut off go? Does it go all the way to the left? Thanks!

I run 100% diesel fuel all the time on my deuce. Is it really a good idea to at least add one quart of brand new engine oil inside the gas tank?
