Ye Are Gods! What Did Jesus Mean? John

  • Are we gods? Didn't Jesus say "ye are gods"? This view is pushed by heretics like Benny Hinn, Creflo Dollar, Joyce Meyer and Steven Furtick. In this short video I take a closer look at the words of Jesus in John 10:34 and examine the true meaning behind the text. The little god heresy is blasphemy and completely unbiblical. When the church allows uneducated men like Benny Hinn and Kenneth Copeland to have so much influence then it ends up being filled with false teaching and blasphemy. I have also created another video where I expose Steven Furtick for claiming to be like God. In that video I discuss the true meaning of Genesis when it says we are made in the image of God. Check that video out.
Pretty much every bible commentary and study bible will agree with my interpretation of the Bible on this topic and subject. Therefore, the fact that many professing Christians believe differently is very disturbing. It means that people are not studying the Bible. They are going to churches and listening to pastors and teachers in the Christian world who do not read the Bible or care about the true meaning of the text. Heresy abounds and its time that Christians begin to expose heresy and mark false teachers.

He is correct except for the fact that the connection Jesus was making with those human judges and himself was to confound them from the accusation that he was equal to God; . Translations that say "for you although a man make yourself God" are wrong because theos there has, as in John 1:1 no definite article (the)before it. thus should have the indefinite article (a) before it , to read "make yourself a god. This would agree with the human judges being referred to as gods. The reason the human judges were called that is because the first meaning is that word is of being a mighty or powerful one which is what judges were over the common people. Likewise Jesus as the son of God likewise had power over the people whilst not being God. At John 8:40 Jesus called himself a"man".
So did Paul at Romans 3:15 and 1 Tim 2:5.

    • @ralphgoreham3516
      @ralphgoreham3516 3 года назад

Koine Greek did not have the indefinit article (a) Thus one properly should be inserted. That went for any noun. If I said there is a door It would in K Greek be "there is door' If I said there is the door you would translate it as is.

Michael Heisner is a Bible scholar who teaches Psalm 82:6 is referring to the divine council of God and not mortal men, in 82:7 "However, you will die like humans..." I listened to our local Christian Radio station in my country where the Pastor also told the congregation that he teaches his children that they are Royal! yes we all are whom are children of God, but not on this earthly realm, only in the Heaven's. Doing so instills pride, a feeling of being better than the rest. for Jesus was of royal blood, but came to earth as a humble man, not dressed with expensive silky cloths and gold and silver.
we should therefore only trust the Holy Spirit to translate scripture and not man, because it can be easily taken out of context, which then lead many deceived!!

    • @ralphsanchico2452
      @ralphsanchico2452 Год назад +1

Not trying to start a spiritual food fight, But I respectfully disagree! 1st Peter 2:9 is not speaking of the heavenly realm, but the here and now. The reason why one may believe that embracing the Royal belief is akin to pride, is because they define it according to how the world portrays it. Obviously when we see a Queen or King, we see the external aspects of them IE: Royal Robes crowns and all the earthly regalia that's portrayed and exhibited. The scripture in 2nd Peter is speaking in terms of our character. Biblical Royalty Transends the outward appearances. But more importantly he not only identifies our character but out position. And that's the position of Priest or Priesthood! And the purpose of this is to show his goodness which brought us out of darkness into his marvelous light! Kind'a hard to show that if you don't believe how God see's you!

He is essentially calling them unjust judges because they are accusing him of blasphemy yet he is doing the work of his father. Yet they won't bringing accusation of blasphemy against the psalmist who is calling these wicked judges gods . The psalmist is inspired to call them gods because they have been given authority by God to judge and they are abusing this authority.

Great detailed interpretation. I understand that many in the evangelical community may take this "god" term or description out of context and it has created a lot of unnecessary confusion, But what I believe is being misunderstood, is that we are NOT gods in terms of deity but rather, we (believers) have AUTHORITY in Jesus name to execute the commands he has given us prior to his being taken back to heaven. I mean, common sense would dictate if a person (believer or otherwise) attempts to act as if they were DIETY, then God would gladly step aside and just say: "HAVE AT IT"! And they'll find out real quick how deified they really are!

Reading Psalm 82 in light of the principles presented in Romans 13 is also very helpful in terms of identifying judges and authorities as administers of justice.
I am shocked by how people are ignoring the Creator/creature distinction so clearly presented in scripture to try and say that we are gods in the supernatural sense. This is definitely the meat of the word and not the milk only, however your interpretation is wrong. Psalm 82 is a criminal trial, in heaven, of the lessor created gods. Psalm 82 starts with Elohim [the pre-Incarnate Jesus Christ] has taken his place in the Divine Council, in the midst of the elohim [lessor created gods] He holds judgement.
The Indictment; 'how long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked'.
The Law; 'Give justice to the weak and the fatherless, maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy, deliver them form the hand of the wicked'.
Judgement, 'I said, your are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince'. ESV

By the middle/ early 2nd Century it was then well under way. We see at 1John 2:18" Young children it is the "LAST HOUR" because many false prophets had gone into the world". .....they were not of our sort by which fact we know it is the "LAST HOUR", Like the man of lawlessnes is composite so is the antichrist. It is a myth to say some man will gain the worship of the whole world. The wild beast (Greek therion) emerging from the Figurative sea is the world wide political set up as iit is in these "last days". Eventually Christendom by the 4th century did proclaim "himself" "a god" and still does although religious influence is waning. Translators being lazy and plagiarists Ignore the fact that there is no definite article before theos at 2Thess 2:4 Hence the indefinite article must be placed there since Koine Greek did not have one.

Anyone that calls other people derogatory names is antichriste, and also makes them selves gods.
It isn't far from the truth to call one self godly. Because if you serve the correct God, that is what you are. But not a single Christian would call themselves God. The false believers do though. And it is a system loophole that God placed into religion.
Which is why people should not follow religion, but follow God. God is a Person, Divine and alone capable of Judging the earth. Which is why He called Himself a Man.. because one day He alone would judge the world. Christians do not escape judgement. (There are some false believers that teach this)

Excellent. You are absolutely correct. Also they were not “angels” as others claim they were; they were men. These men were given the power to judge like God. And in judging they also had the power of declaring life or death. That is why Gods called the judges “gods” “Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.”
    ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭22:28‬ ‭ The “gods” here are Israel’s judges
Moses was also called a “god” by The Lord.
“And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.”

Grace is multi-portioned. We know the grace of forgiveness, and we have the ability to grow in grace. Righteousness, holiness and then this, called "the good part." This is about "the way of life." God says, "seek my face." No one actually sees God's face, not even Moses, to whom the word of God definitely came. But he shows us the way through 3 courts to the Mercy "Seat." The pathway turns upward, here. Jesus is the physical manifestation of God and this is his throne. His face is covered by the Cherubim. Our journey is meant to be a return to the garden experience of walking and talking with God. In the last year of his ministry, Jesus had 4 groups of students. The gospel of John records lessons to the few closest to Jesus at that time. There are the 12, the 70 and "the other 70." The other 70 are those recently "established" in the kingdom, מערה. Matthew or μετθεου are the 70. This gospel is about the spirit of the Father and the will of the Father in us. By faith we can say "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I see this in מאת. The third portion is the "latter" blessing or לוק. This is a quickening of the mind through the Holy Spirit. With the 3 trimesters Jesus is fully formed in us. God is triune. By that I understand the father, the son, the holy spirit and a union of the 3 who we call The Most High God. If you look carefully at the variations of the gospels, the pattern is clearly evident in every passage of the Greek. I am no scholar. I have no education. I am simply a member of the elect drawn to the the King of Kings by the cords of love. :) Ελεκτον--->Πρωτον. Perhaps a coincidence? And perhaps the 3 courts/shells are coincidence. But to me, this is the pattern of all things. And I hope this explains how it is that we can be called "sons of God."

When a person read it in the original Hebrew, and you will see the difference between Yahweh as Elohim above all Elohim and the council itself as a lower classification of elohim.
Jesus answers the lower classification of elohim (gods) in John 10: 34 35.
Asaph the Prophet writes Psalm 82: 1 "God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: Psalm 82:6 - “I said, you are gods.”
John the Disciple/Apsotle writes Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),
The lower class of elohim (gods) in Psalm 82 are human NOT non human/angels
WHY because the word of the Lord came to Prophets, God Spoke thru Prophets to the nation of Israel/Jews (Human). The Jews were also given the Law and had the Prophets. NO nonhuman/angel is ever referred to as a Prophet in scripture or were given the Law, Of course angels are messengers in scripture, but that is it.
The Law and Holy Scriptures were given to the nation of Israel/Jews NOT to non humans/angels. How God takes His place in the divine council is by the Prophet Asaph who wrote Psalm 82 and by the Law which was given to the Nation of Israel. What is KEY is that a Prophet of God like Asaph carried and handled the words of the Lord God, Prophets were the VOICE of God that is why it is IMPORTANT that Jesus fulfills these words...... Psalm 82:6 - “I said, you are gods.” ........Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken)," The "I said" declaration of Jesus as God is no different than an "I am" declaration. The "I said" and the "I am" declarations are all found in the Gospel of John.

Even common sense tells us that NO book in scripture is named after a non human being or an angel. The Lord God is in a Covenant relationship with MAN, NOT non human beings or angels. God lifts up Prophets in the Old Testament so Jesus can FULFILL what is written and spoken in the OldTestament Fulfilled by Jesus in the NewTestament. Jesus holds the answer of the "gods" (lower class elohim/gods), they are human in both Psalm 82 and John 10.

Why do people go to the Book of Psalm to try to run away from what Jesus explained on this verse which says that " we are gods". Remember that the Old Testament scriptures were fulfilled in the new Testament and not the other way round. So you cannot reject what Jesus explained in the new Testament by referring back to the Old Testament. And rejecting what the Bible says does not nullify God's word. Jesus explained clearly that the term, "you are gods" referred to those people to whom the word of the Lord came ( John 10:35). And we know that Jesus is the word of the Lord which became flesh and came to his people, who rejected him. So those to whom Jesus came, meaning those who received God's word, are the same people being called "gods". Why do we not just believe the scriptures?

Agree. Michael Heiser’s thorough development of the Divine Counsel helped me understand how each of the nations disbursed following the Tower of Babel to each was assigned an elohim. These elohim (sons of god) disobeyed Yahweh’s instruction on how to rule the disbursed Nations but became themselves corrupt by ruling unjustly. In Ps 82 Yahweh is calling them to account, finding them both corrupt and corrupting their nation, and condemns them to death like mere men. In this context I think the Jewish rulers listening knew Jesus was ALSO talking about their unjust rule over the nation of Judah/Israel.

So basically his explanation is (they didn’t really mean “gods” they meant “Elohim” which could also mean “judges”..... ) “so basically he is saying “ye are judges.....”
Typical religionism. “This book is the direct word of god” unless it doesn’t fit in to my box then I will rewrite the words to something that makes sense to my strict view.
There were dozens of books left out of the canonized bible. Because people believe in the authority of man that’s why. They took out all of the spiritual truth like the gospel of Thomas which predates Matt, Mark, Luke, John....
To deny the godliness of man is to deny god itself.... Acknowledging we are gods with a lowercase “g” is different than saying “we are Gods” only religious dogma says its blasphemy to acknowledge what god endowed us with.

This was done post Tower of Babel in whom he allowed to rule of rebellious people who were sent out to nations and He set the borders of these nations.
He also spoke about other princes as a supernatural such as the Prince of Persia and Tyre. Remember Daniel had to battle the prince of Persia? How would a human judge be a problem for a supernatural prince of the most high?!
I suppose you don’t believe that rebellious BeniElohim came down to mate with mortal women creating Nephilim?
This is why YHVH makes a big deal about other gods, (if they were imaginary then He would tell us so!)

Jesus then defended who He was, by reminding them all, by their own scripture, who they "once were," by the use of Psalms 82. That they, "once" (in another Time, World and Age) stood before Him "in Judgement." And, as “God,” had once said to them: "Ye are gods" [Children of the Most High, but Ye shall all die like men!]. “liken” to physical men themselves that had existed, denoting a future change, from what they were, to what they will be, in another Time, Age and World, in the far future for them all. "Thus, the very same Men," who "were all now" trying to kill Him! The very same Judge (“God”) from out of their very past. Question: Are any of those Jewish (Men) still alive today? Or are they all dead? Therefore, who are You then, that are now reading this, but “once” the very same "Children of God" that were all born from out of a woman, just as Jesus Christ was, “who are also awaiting your own time to die (Psalms 82:7-Hebrew 9: 27) then fulfilling the very same judgement, from out of your own very past.

If you'll notice in John 10:34 & Psalm 82:1. It is a lower case "g". We are not Gods or even godlike. We have been given gifts and authority from God. To which we should always remain humble. Casting out demons. Praying to God. The gift of the Holy Spirit. In Psalm 82, it was in regards to people in God-given positions of authority abusing their power in favor of the wicked. Like the gentleman in the video stated. Elohim has been translated as "judges."
In Exodus 20:3, God tells His people. "You shall have no other gods before me." Lower case "g". God is not actually saying there are other gods. There is a book that is titled "Return of the gods" based off this principle. And in this book it's not actually saying they are gods but that they are worshiped as gods. Same with God's scripture. So, there's a lot of contexts from the Bible where "god" is used but they aren't actually gods.
1 Corinthians 8:5-6, "For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), yet for us there is but One God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but One Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live."

I think people are just scared of this truth because it can be abused by false teachers. In reality, through Christ, we are gods. We will even judge angels!
What I'm saying is that in Christ we are like those judges that Jesus is referring to. It makes no sense to say that those judges are gods but we today, who are in Christ, who will inherit the world, who will judge peoples and angels, are not gods! Everything said to those judges applies to us in the future coming of Christ.
I think too many authentic teachers, such as yourself, fall into the trap of worrying about what evil teachers will do with this verse instead of accepting the plain reality of it and trusting that us, Christians, will still be humble about ourselves since we will "die like men" anyway.

@@iThinkBiblically Alternate view ... The context of John 10:34 is that Jesus is showing the ruling body (Sanhedrin) that just as the "word" went forth to the "sons of God" of the divine council in heaven, then they should not be surprised that the "word" (Son of God) must also go forth to its mirror image on earth, which is, the Sanhedrin. The Jews understood that the Elohim of Ps 82:6 were spiritual beings not humans. Elohim always refers to spiritual beings and never human beings. These Jews knew there is a temple, throne room and temple furnishings both in heaven (Is 6:1-7 & Revelation) and on earth, then there is also an assembly of heavenly hosts who have been granted authority to oversee earthly dominions. The members of this heavenly council are the "sons of God" (Deut 32:8) which is mirrored on earth as the Sanhedrin - see Ex 24:9-11 and Num 11:16-17. So, Jesus in John 10:34 is simply saying they should not be surprised that Yahweh has consecrated and sent his Son to them, just as he sent forth his word to the divine council in Ps 82:6. Furthermore, Jesus is warning them that just as the disobedient and rebellious divine council will be judged, so too will the disobedient and rebellious members of the Sanhedrin be judged. Whenever we read about the earth and the heavens being shaken, we are reading about this pending judgment to come.

We may not be like unto the most high but with God all things are possible and people like Samson or Solomon Joseph or Daniel Elijah or Elisha, Paul or Barnabas, Ham or Moses, David or Joshua, Noah or Aaron, or any prophet... what they could do was godlike and without their heavenly father they won't have power.
