Grasping at straws as answers here. If you want to actually know something either look up PhD Michael Heiser or the Eastern Orthodox Church that has a deep understanding on these things from the very beginning, that is, from the primitive Church that speaks to these things in spades! In the multiplicities of choice among the protestant communions and without an organic link to the apostolic church some real knowledge has simply been lost. It's no one's fault per se, but things simply are what they are. For the few that investigate the road less travelled you won't be disappointed.

these guys are just putting their own interpretation on the bible, even though he said we will die as men, doesn't mean we can just say that meant that he didn't say we were gods. He said we are gods, but ("BUT" is the key word here, meaning we posses everything of gods, except for eternity in this flesh) will eventually die.

Ps 82 the context is judgment. The allegations against The gods and the responsibility of gods and the punishment of gods is death. Not necessarily gods are going to die. The judgment because of the allegations is death. You can see as case study Adam's life. Adam created immortal but because of the allegations against him the penalty was death.

If you want a good answer, here’s one that I heard that I’ll pass along. Since I think these gentleman may have caused more confusion.
Jesus makes a bold statement claiming to be one with the father. The Pharisees understood this as Jesus calling himself God. They then accuse him of blasphemy.
Jesus backs up his claim of deity by pointing out he does good works. So he asks them, for which of these good works do you stone me for?
The Pharisees respond that they don’t stone him for the works, but for his claim of deity.
Now Jesus quotes psalm 82 for the “are ye not gods” the context of the verse is simple. God is calling out the false judges for the wickedness. If you read 82:7 you see what the charge is for the false judges. They will die like mortals.
This is exactly what jesus was saying to the Pharisees. They incorrectly judged him for blasphemy. So by quoting the psalm the Pharisees knew the judgement that Would be upon them. They too will die in their sins.
That’s why they picked up stones to stone him with this response.
Anyway I hope this helped anyone.

Context is key here! The panel starts by saying that we were created in God's image - which is not Jesus' point here...but they eventually go right to the source and nail down the point of the context of Psalm 82.
The problem of the World is that people respond to these difficult passages with a knee-jerk reaction and back up their own interpretation with another passage that skews the truth of what Jesus was really talking about. Going straight back to Psalms 82 is what Jesus was doing and he knew the Pharisees knew the rest of the passage and what it really meant. He was NOT saying we are gods or will become gods or that since he (Jesus) is the Son of God and God himself, that we will follow suit and become gods like him...or that we will become one with God as Jesus is. Of course, the New Age movement is rife with "we are all one". This is the occult and is not Jesus' teaching, NOR is it the teaching of the Old Testament Scriptures. Jesus was NOT saying this but this is the interpretation people have by not going back to Psalms and reading the passage Jesus was referencing.
People just assume what Jesus meant and they go no further. This is dangerous and falls into Satan's trap. This was Satan's lie to Adam and Eve, that they/we should become like God. Remember, even Satan knows scripture but he very carefully twists it and warps it to drive people away from Jesus and God's true message of our needing Salvation and Jesus being the ONLY way. We will never become little gods...not in this life or in eternity! Satan continues to twist and warp Scripture, even today!...but Jesus knew the Scriptures and always gave the CORRECT context, which the Pharisees also knew and understood! They were NOT ignorant of the Scriptures and what Jesus meant by this...they were without excuse! We need to read the entire passage for the correct context, as the panel has done here!

I beg to differ slightly. It is important to note that Jesus was quoting Psalms 82, which is addressed to heavenly beings called the sons of God but not men. See the psalm mentions how one of them had fallen, and others with him hence not doing Justice and God is rebuking them! Those are the beings who are tasked with the control of nations (see Deut 32:7-8). See how they gather to God in Job 1:ff and how God address one of them - Lucifer! In fact he was telling them their law says there are beings called sons of God and Jesus' claim was not misplaced. They're also called princes. Paul calls the fallen of them principalities/powers. Just as Jesus rebuked Peter calling him 'satan' and to 'get behind him' he knew the Jews were being influenced by the principalities and he addressed the forces directly!

John Piper gives a really thought-provoking answer to this question, entirely redirecting it. Per Piper, the "ye" was never meant in reference to humanity but to angelic beings. They were "gods" (little elohim) in the sense that they had some degree of control and power -- some sense of dominion. (In Scripture, "elohim" can mean anything from the Godhead to mere mortal judges.) So it could be that our big mistake in reading this verse is that we completely misunderstand both to whom the word "ye" references and to what the word translated as "gods" refers.

your opinion is completely wrong in my opinion. actually we don't need to interpret anything more about psalm 82 verse 6. Jesus himself has interpreted what that verse means, using that verse he can refute the arguments of the Jews about himself who is not God. So if you say to me, that I am not God. I would argue with the same arguments that Jesus did with the Jews. so it seems to me that it is true that we are little gods like the egg theory.

Jesus is simply saying that we (the body) are all REFLECTIONS of God. Meaning God is INSIDE all of us. We all place the importance of these passages (such as John 10:34, & John 10:30) on our physical body. Jesus isn’t referring to the body (of himself or anyone). Jesus is referring to the SOUL of you and I and everyone. The soul of man is “GOD”. God lives INSIDE each one of us. This is the DEEPER meaning. Sadly our “Pea-Size Brains” cannot digest this phenomenon.

The meaning behind this is that we are one with God. God is within all of us, God is not separate from us. It becomes sin when you try to place yourself on a higher pedestal than God. But God sees through our eyes, thinks through our minds, speaks through our mouths and feels through our body's. God is within us therefore we are one with God. This is spoken in the gospel of Thomas. The gospel of Thomas is one of the books removed from the bible ( which was for conformity and to hide our true power and God's true nature) but it speaks on the fact that we control the very world around us and that we control our experiences and our reality. God is within us. We are not higher than God. I hope this makes sense. Look up the gospel of Thomas and it may prove to be more informative then my explaining.

    I think it's a reference to Matthew 23:12
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Not calling yourself a god is godly, because it's humble.
While if you call yourself a god you will be shown that you are not, and will not be.
Also, consider the parable of the prodigal son. From my understanding the Father is God, and the two sons represent a relatively righteous person and the other son represents a serious sinner who repents and comes back to God.
The father (representing God the Father) tells his righteous son, after asking why he was never given a fatted calf despite always being holy, was told:
    Luke 15:31
And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.
So in summary, the righteous will inherit all the God has, and God has everything.

The Hebrew language hold no caps. what Jesus said is what he meant that was very straightforward. Jesus teaches the commandments, which of them is not clear? the problem is we has use our Freedom of will and actions to contaminated the original order of life, with our lust for power, craved for pleasure, desire for dominance and superiority over others, the very things Jesus spend his time teaching the danger of, we have no clue how the world would be in the absence of sin because sin kill our spirit from that knowledge. now we are drifters like a person in the dark, that was born blind. Jesus teaches his deciples that they could do greater things than what they where witnessing with him, that's was the most profound and powerful insight into what we are capable of.

I have to say these are some very intelligent comments! My take is that this statement by Jesus makes orthodox Christians VERY uncomfortable because it doesn’t fit neatly into the born sinner piece of garbage nothing without God narrative. He was actually saying that he realized his God-nature and we are all capable of doing the same. I know he was referencing the Old Testament, but his iteration of it stands on its own merit. In this case a literal interpretation is actually correct 😂 It’s absolutely hilarious that people believe Jonah spent time in a whales belly when it’s clearly an allegory, but won’t take Jesus at his word...?!

There is no need to elaborate any complex interpretation. Let's take it literally.
In the Psalm 82 a congregation of Elohim took place.
One of the Elohim stood up and reprimended the other Elohim due to the way they were governing unfairly.
He remarked: "I have said: you are Elohim and all of you are sons of El Elyon" (who's the El above them all, translated in english as the 'most high'), they however are like every man (made with flesh and bones) so they could die like everyone else.
This psalm doens't need any interpretation. It's never been a mystery. The Elohim are a plurality of powerful individuals, all of them subordinated to El Elyon. Elohim always been men, "anashim", like every other human being.
Some theologian exegetes tries to explain "gods" as judges, but judges in hebrew is "shoftim". There is no way those Elohim were something different than a group of individuals with similar power and same ranking.
    What did Jesus say, then?
Jesus mention psalm 82 to the Jews:
"Isn't written in you law: "You are gods?" - the word used by the author of the gospel in the greek language to mean god is "THEOI" which is the EXACT meaning of hebrew Elohim.
This means that Jesus himself prove that the congregation speech concerned about "Elohim/gods" and not judges.

These “pastors” don’t know anything. The first thing you have to understand is that the Bible is not monotheistic. When Christ quoted Psalms “are you Elohim” he was not referring to people or humans. He is referring to the Celestial beings in which he was a part of. We are made in “their” image. God the father is Set apart and is Spirit and has no form.

Context is key, and your like those who believe they are little g gods take these verses out of context.

The Father said humans are gods in Psalm 82:6, which is more than sufficient to answer Pharisee charges. However, one might go on to ask what the Father meant in Psalm 82:6, where He said man was god? First, the rank order in heaven and earth: God>>Jesus-SoG&HS>>SoG's>>Arch-Angels>>Angels>>Man>>(beasts, plants, etc., creations of man, demons, etc., ...these in unknown order). If we concern ourselves with those who rank above man, we can see 1) Jesus came from a race in heaven called "Son's of God" (SoG's). Many balk, but Bible clearly states it in Gen-6, Job-38 and elsewhere. (more...)
Jesus was pressed on the question of whether he was the SoG, he did not run around bragging, nor did he prefer the title. Throughout the Gospel, Jesus refers to himself as "Son of man" (SoM). Ever wonder why? Was Jesus expressing some sort of fake-humility? Or hiding his SoG title from authorities? Clearly not. Jesus preferred his SoM title over his SoG title, because the SoM crown has greater glory in heaven. SoM is the superior rank.
Now the question arises where man will find himself in the rank order in heaven, assuming he makes it to heaven? God and Jesus are both telling us that we will find ourselves ranked above SoG's. Why? Because we too suffered this life on earth. We paid as much of our wages as one death can pay. Jesus picked up the rest of our tab by virtue of his sinless life, yet having paid the same wage as we through death. We put our bill on Jesus tab.
Every human soul that makes it to heaven will owe Jesus that debt. And God wants our souls. He wants and values every single human soul beyond measure. And every single soul owing their position in heaven to Jesus, means Jesus sits at the Right Hand. And we take our place next to our savior and our brother SoM Jesus.
So when Jesus asks, "Do you not know that we will judge angels?" 1Cor 6:3, it is because humans in heaven will find themselves in a rank-order position above the angels. These passages are not there to make us arrogant, but to remind us our responsibility. Someday, we will judge the angels and the angels will be sorrowful by our slightest disapproval and joyful by our approbation. And all this depends on our graduating this earth and going up, not down. Jesus is reminding us that we carry the burden of our actions and those actions should be worthy of the station we seek.

I think man has misunderstood the word of God. I belive that we have the chance to be God like. That this earth realm that we are in, is a place for us to either show we are worthy for the kingdom of God or not. We have the choice to show him that we are godly and to create and do things that God's can do. So when we die as men we will be reborn as God's.

No man can claim Sonship exclusively. JESUS said We are One and We Share His Glory. The only difference between us and Jesus is, He knows the truth, we are still finding out. We have been given of The Father all that Jesus has. The difference is Jesus has nothing else, while we still hold on to illusions.

Humans or people do NOT possess the ontology of “sons of God.” These are angels who were given rule of cosmic and geographic dominion on earth but they have become corrupt and unjust that’s why they were summoned in judgment in the divine Council. The Apostle Paul refers to these divine entities as “Principalities and powers in heavenly places” in Ephesians 6. The key to this argument that these “gods” are not human judges is in verse 7 which says, “Ye shall die LIKE men. Besides, the venue of this divine council is in the skies or heaven. Please read Psalm 89: 5-7. How can humans stay in the skies? When Jesus quoted Psalm 82: 6, He was corroborating His claim that He and the Father are one which He was charged of BLASPHEMY and the Jews were about to stone Him. In other words, He is saying to the Jews that He is the GOD of verse 1 of Psalm 82 presiding the divine council. Take note of the grammatical mode that He used is in the first person, “I said, Ye are gods.” Jesus was the one addressing these erring sons of God. The Scriptures is the third evidence that Jesus proved that He is GOD besides His words and His works.

Who do you chose the scholar or the Shepherd????..........The Shepherd makes more sense and is the Right choice.
Jesus answers the question on who the Psalm 82 "gods" are in John 10.
Jesus quotes and repeats what God the Father had spoken thru the Inspired Prophet Asaph, Again Asaph wrote in Psalm 82:6 - “I said, you are gods.” Jesus says in John 10:34 “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”. Here in John 10:34 Jesus links himself to the same God (Father) in Psalm 82. Prophets were the VOICE of God in the OT, God would SPEAK thru them. Prophets handled and carried the words of God to write down and also to Speak the words of God to the nation of Isarael (Jews).
John 10: 35>>> " If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came and the Scripture cannot be broken"
Notice in this verse mentions the "word of God"
Jesus Links himself to the same God that spoken thru the Prophet Asaph in Psalm 82. Psalm 82 is for the Jews and directed to the Jews. Asaph the prophet wrote Psalm 82. Asaph was the voice of God in Psalm 82.
The Jews received the word of God from Prophets as well as the law. The word of God and the law was for the nation of Israel (Jews). The "Divine council/congregation of the mighty/Great Assembly", more specific would be Jewish Judges and Rulers, because they had the law to judge and rule with, so that would be a HUMAN Divine Council, NOT a non human (angels) Divine Council like some promote.
This is also fulfilled prophetic words fulfilled by Jesus so scripture cannnot be broken with OT scripture and NT scripture, Psalm 82 "gods" are Linked with the John 10 "gods" so the gods are human in both Psalm 82 and John 10. Jesus is addressing Humans ("gods") in John 10, Probably Jewish rulers.
The phrase and title given "you are gods" is a legalistic title of Authority because the Jews were given the Law and as well as judge with the law. The Jews were given the Law and 10 commandments to govern them and council them, so it is imposible for this to be nonhuman spirit beings or angels. God also established covenants with Humans, not nonhuman spirit beings or angels.
In John 10 Jesus is equating Himself to the same God in Psalm 82, Jesus uses an "I said" statement.
Let's focus in on the words Jesus uses,. He uses an ‘I said”. The “I said” stament is no different than an “I am” statement.
The “I am” statemanets and “I said” statement of Jesus in the Gospel of John are really one and the same. These are not metaphors; rather, they are declarations of God’s name, as applied by Jesus to Himself. The first instance of an “I am” comes as Jesus responds to a complaint by the Pharisees. “I tell you the truth,” Jesus says, “before Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58). The verbs Jesus uses are in stark contrast with each other: Abraham was, but I am. There is no doubt that the Jews understood Jesus’ claim to be the eternal God incarnate, because they took up stones to kill Him (verse 59 that would be blasphemy to the Jews because Jesus made Himself out to be God). The same logic is applied to John 10:35, Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” which directly comes from Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High.” The word children in verse 6 can also means "sons", how this is used is in an "ADOPTED' sense and use of the word....Again that would be 'Human", NOT non human like like some promote.
A person can clearly see in Psalm 82 and in John 10 it would be Jews being addressed, not nonhuman spirit beings or angels, like some promote.
Focusing more on John 10 Jesus is using a figure of speech for the sheep to "HEAR" His Voice with 2 of the "I am" statements Jesus uses. John 10: 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice."
So many IGNORE the voice of God, whether it is the Voice of God thru the prophet Asaph in Psalm 82 ("gods") or the Voice of God from Jesus in John 10 (god's), Jesus is God the 2nd person of the Godhead (Trinity). There are 3 persons in the Godhead>>>>Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
This all in CONTEXT because the "I said" statement" in John 10: 35 " “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”>>>>>> Jesus as the Gate/Door and Good Shepherd
John 10: 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.
John 10: 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
John 10: 16 " And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd."
    >>>>>>>>>>> Jesus is speaking ot TWO flocks of sheep, One flock are Jews and the other flock are Gentiles. The Shephard lays His life down for His sheep>>>>>>John 10: 17,18 "For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”
Basically Jesus being the Good Shepherd the sheep would hear the voice of the Shepherd with the "I said" statement of Jesus in John 10: 35, which refers to Psalm 82:6 - “I said, you are gods.
The gods in Psalm 82 are 100% human, just like John 10 the gods are 100% human, not non human in Psalm 82 which Bible teachers and even scholars promote. When reading John 10 the false teachers that promote the "gods" as Non Human (angels) would be the "Thief" that is discribed. Johyn 10: 10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly."
Some Bilble teachers are blind and def to the "Voice" of God whether by the prophet Asaph in Psalm 82 or in John 10 makes him apostate, they litteraly rob and steal the word of God, which is fulfilled by Jesus, it actually destroys Truth and the Promise of Jesus fulfilling the words of God on who the "gods" are in Psalm 82.
What is Ignored In John 10 and Psalm 82
    1. The law (Authority for the Jews and Jewish Elders/Judges)
Also see In Exodus 22:8 & 9 here is where a person can find how the role of these Elders/Judges ("gods" or "elohim), established by Moses. The law was given to Moses.
    2. The prophet (Asaph wrote Psalm 82)....Prophets were given the word of the Lord in the OT, they carried and handled God's words to be directed to the Jews. Prophets were the VOICE of God in the OT, God spokle thru them.
    3. The " I said" (word/Word of the Lord Written/Spoken thru Prophets in OT Revealed in NT Word bacame Flesh (John 1)>>>>Jesus/Son).
    4. Linking OT Scripture with NT Scripture (Scripture cannot be broken). John 10: 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken)" The word of the Lord and the Law came to the Jews (Human)
    5. Psalm 82 and John 10 are directed to Jews, NOT nonhuman spirit being or angels like Mr. Heiser promotes.
    6. Explainig the Godhead/Trinity as always existed even before creation, Father, Son, Holy Spirit are THREE persons of ONE and the SAME God,
    7. Expalining since the Jews had this law of God and from God, Puts them in a High level of Authority to Judge and carry out the law of God and represent God, but they will die like men becasue they do a poor job of representing God and the law.
    8. ESV Psalm 82: 1 "God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: NKJV Psalm 82: 1 "God stands in the congregation of the mighty;
He judges among the gods.">>>>>>>This is also a Prphecy fulfilled by Jesus when He came to earth and litterally stood amongst the :gods" who are Huamn, probably Jews and the Jewish rulers (Pharisees), Nothing to do with Psalm 89 and 1 Kings 22 where the scene is the in Heaven/Heavenly realm. In Psalm 82 it is word of God that stands and holds judgment among the human "gods">>>Jews.

They were not really prepared to answer this. The NT word Jesus used was not elohim, but he quoted from Psalms 82:6 which does use elohim, and it is a reference to the system of judges set up to administer justice. The judges, patterned after principalities and powers had become corrupt and would ultimately die. It was a rebuke to the Sanhedrin. These men, sadly, do not appear too have ever witnessed to a Mormon and feel compelled to comment on something they haven't studied in great depth. They were not gods, but rulers, judges presiding over the affairs of God's people. The one guy did not look. Up the NT word as is written in Greek and not Hebrew. Btw, we are not gods and neither were they. This is a continuation of the lie from Genesis 3, that "ye shall be as gods". Everything and everyone that exalts themselves, shall be bright down. Our victory, is in Jesus, and comes through surrendering, our lives and out will unto Him, even unto death.

These guys tried, but mostly demonstrated that the original language Scriptures were not initially directed to Westerners. It’s clear in Psalm 82 God’s conclusion of the power positioned judges (‘gods’) were ‘mere men’ ... and in John 10 Jesus was rebuking the Pharisees who were so proud of their high political positions in Israel...denouncing them also as ‘mere men’. Concerning His own deity, they clearly understood His personal claim making Himself equal to God - also implying that He is also the One in Psalm 82 calling false judges (elohims) ‘mere men’ who did NOT help the fatherless, etc. The Hebrews already knew Yahweh commanded there are NO other gods beside Him. Therefore, the English rendition ‘gods’ carries a different mentality for the western mind.

The flesh is not our true self, only garments that we are using on this realm. I don't care what they say.. I know I am that I am, and God is the true self of that which I am. Knowing this, that we are made in his ' image ' ...' our image ' ...speaks to the Bible as a Guide, not a script. We have the power of decision, but it can only be harnessed as 'a people '. We are the mountain that has a head, a face, a back, an arm, a foot, a leg, that if we have faith can tell where to go. God is no respector of persons. Sure the mountain might not have all human topographic traits, but then neither do those handicapped, missing those traits, but are yet even more talented because of their faith to overcome, and excell beyond normal capacity. At the appearing of Christ death was abolished and brought life and immortality to light for them that seek for glory honor and immortality, eternal life. For this reason he that believes will not die like men and judges having the mind of Christ > 1 Corinthians 1:30-32, 2:15-16.
It’s amazing to me that they who say they believe the gospel of Christ don’t know they have immortality or know why they won’t die like men and judge with the mind of Christ and are as ELOHIM/God who’s workmanship created the believer IN Christ: SEE ALSO Romans 8:28-30, 2 Corinthians 3:18, Ephesians 1:4-5, 4:13, 4:23-24, Colossians 3:10. In context John chapter 10 the Jews disregarded the works that Jesus did; the miracles that showed He was God. Instead, they wanted to only judge Jesus on what He said. They wanted to kill Jesus because He said He was equal with God the Father. Jesus pushed them again about His many good works and yet they didn't want to talk about that! So, since they were ignoring works Jesus met them on their level and discussed THE LAW. Psalms 82 deals with Hebrew judges because they were interpreters of God's law and justice. If the Jews in Psalm 82 were willing to call these judges "gods" because the word of God had come to them then how could the Jews want to kill Jesus because God sent Him? Jesus' miracles, works etc. agreed with His message and gave evidence of who He was. Jesus tells them again to look at His works and believe. Instead, they wanted Him dead for blasphemy. (In other words, Jesus was dealing with people that said: "Let's not look at evidence let's just look at what you say then it's easier to kill you")

Jesus is quoting Psalm 82 :6 which is either a reference to human judges or heavenly sons of God. In either case it illustrates that in the Bible, the word God has a wider range of meaning. In scripture, Moses, Hebrew Kings, Judges, angels and even the devil are called God/god. Thus Jesus was making it clear that if others could be called 'God/god', then how much more could he be called a God/god, as Yahwehs messiah, the Christ, the Son of God.

    Psalm 82
His words as God (Father and Son) . "You are gods" is used twice in scripture, once in Psalm 82 verse 6 and once in John 10 verse 34. This is a similarity because it is the words of God spoken through the prophet Asaph in Psalm 82 and then again said again by Jesus the son of God in John 10. Both accounts this is the "word" of God (Father and Son). The Jews, God was referred to as Yahweh in Hebrew. Another use in Hebrew is Elohim (God), Jesus name in Hebrew is Yeshua. God in Greek is "Theos".
Psalm 82: 6 " I said, “You gods, And all of you children of the Most High. The word "gods" is lower case meaning elohim.
I said, “You are gods>>>>>>God the Father "words" speaking through the prophet Asaph. Asaph a “seer” or prophet. The word of the Lord would come to prophets in the Old Testament and God would speak through the prophet.
John 1 14 " The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."
God would speak the "Word" through a prophet like Asaph in Psalm 82, in the NT the "Word" was spoken by God incarnate in the flesh by Jesus in John 10.
John 10: 34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),>>>>>>Jesus the Son speaking as God in the flesh. Jesus repeats what the Fathers words "You are gods" from Psalm 82:6 that were spoken and written by Asaph the prophet.
When the text says "You are gods" is directed to humans not angels or spiritual beings in both Psalm 82 and John 10, very clear. The "gods" (elohim) are Jewish officials that are in the position to rule and judge certain matters with in the nation of Israel, they are to represent the law and God.
God instructing Moses certain men in Israel to be judges, rulers, or elders ("gods" or "elohim). A Divine Council, Congregation of the Mighty or the Great Assembly
    Exodus 18 25-26
And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the
people: rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers
of tens. 26 So they judged the people at all times; the hard
cases they brought to Moses, but they judged every small case themselves.
Psalm 82 with commentary Psalm 82 is also written Poetically by Asaph
1 God (Elohim) stands in the congregation of the mighty; (divine council, great assembly)
He judges among the gods. (elohim>>>judges, rulers, and elders with in the Nation of Israel) Note: when God "stands" and" judges" this is by the spoken/written word of the prophet
Asaph, because the word of the Lord would come to prophets in the OT.)
2 How long will you judge unjustly,
And show partiality to the wicked? Selah
    3 Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and needy.
    4 Deliver the poor and needy;
Free them from the hand of the wicked.
    5 They do not know, nor do they understand;
    They walk about in darkness;
All the foundations of the earth are unstable. ( Verses 2-5 Is a court setting, where the courts were intended as the place where the
needy could find justice, but they were not fulfilling this responsibility. They are judging unjustly
and are favoring the wicked, they are being questioned and scolded.
These verses could also be applied to Pharisees in the time of Jesus, basically bad rulers/elders,
not representing God or the law.)
6a I said, “You are gods,
((((Father's "words spoken and written by the prophet Asaph who wrote Psalm 82 ">>>>>Son's "words" addressing Pharisees who are Jewish rulers/elders a certain sect at the time of Jesus.
John 10: 34-35 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods”’? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken).
Israel was made up of 12 tribes or 12 nations, the nation of Israel was given the law. Also in John 10 34-35 Jesus is claiming to be equal and is God when He said....'I said "You are gods".
The “I said” is really no different then an “ I am” that is mentioned in the Gospel of John. There are 7 "I am" in the Gospel of John spoken by Jesus.
Note: Looking back at verse Psalm 82 verse 1, since God "stands" this is the prophetic fulfillment with Jesus (God in the flesh) as the Son of God would literally stand before Jewish rulers/elders the Pharisees, since Psalm 82 is written by the prophet Asaph a seer. Jesus also stands before Pharisees in John 8 scolding them (saying they are of their father, the devil), scolding like in Psalm 82.
John 8: 13 "The Pharisees therefore said to Him, You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true.”
John 8 42-44 "Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. You are of father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own for he is a liar and the father of it."))))
Verse 6b cont. And all of you are children of the Most High. (The children of the Most High are Israel, Jesus the Messiah is to come through them)
7 But you shall die like men, (referring to those bad elders, rulers and judges with High Authority, they favor the wicked and judge unjustly, they do
not follow through with their responsibilities, duties, and do not represent God, these High Officials are just men, so they will die like men)
And fall like one of the princes. (referring to earthly rulers or even angels, satan is the prince of the power of the air Ephesians 2:2, even Israel in Hebrew means prince of God )
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth; (God is the supreme Judge)
For You shall inherit all nations (God inherits the nations by Jesus the son, Jesus is the coming King)

Look at the context of Psalms 82 , understand it and you will get what Jesus is saying, Jesus is not saying they are gods but He is mocking them as Psalms 82 says and the Jews understood it , the context is God is talking to judges humans who knew His laws and had power of life and death over the people they were entrusted to ,in that sense they were gods small G but they were unjust and God to pass judgment on them . in this context Jesus is mocking the Jews and at the same time vindicating Himself
