You are capable of understanding definitions and drawing conclusions based on your own authority, the authority given by God through cognition, awareness, free choice. There are always clever go between seeking to be the middle man between your and your own authority. Christ is clear, the law of the prophets is clear. We are of God, we are God's. Does this absolve us from wrong doing and sin, no it requires us to act as God acts, to think as God thinks, and that is our grand test. We've been given the tools, we've been forgiven, we've had many 'do overs,' and it's time to pony up. No more training wheels, no more clever parasites. We don't need preachers, or churches outside our own church, the temple of the body, the connection to the all mighty God and the realization of this by following the moral compass of the heart and the ministry of Christ. That's what I meant by he's clever.
When it is explained that way I get the impression Jesus "slipped" them a verse of scripture to divert their attention. I believe that since Jesus is the Word He would not have to use scripture as a diversion to escape.
I was just reminding myself today that we do not wrestle with flesh and blood. We are in a spiritual war! I can’t see it but I suddenly feel/experience it sometimes and then it passes, then it returns. Like in battle when there’s a charge then a retreat. It builds our faith, doesn’t it? Praise God.

The Holy Spirit is in you. The wisdom it provides is like a radar. We may not always listen, or be willing to, but when the Holy Spirit shouts our heart hears.

Hebrews 1:5: For to which of the angels did He ever say: “You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”? And again: “I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son”?
Genesis 6. And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. Sons of God here are Angel's. But do notice they are always refered to as son's of God- plural. Jesus on they other hand is the only begotten Son Of God. Jesus is God in being and nature. We on the other hand are only image holders of God. Angels yes they do not have the image of God, but God was their maker/creator and hence God is their only Father as they are sons of God.

To become "as" or "like" is much different than "becoming" God. We became "like" God by knowing good and evil. But you can obviously see that we are nothing like God in every other aspect. We are weak, fallen, prideful. We have no power to control our own impulses let alone a speck of the power God has.

The only one that ever promises we will be gods is Satan. There's a history of it in the Bible. Here's the truth that I refused to believe before leaving the "new age" Picking out a couple Bible verses that fit the path I wanted to follow is called heresy and blasphemy. It's an idol of self, and the New Age movement is preying on amazing ppl with the most beautiful loving hearts, who are craving an incredible spiritual experience and deeper meaning. It leads to a road of people pleasing, depression, isolation, anxiety and emptiness. Can I please tell you with all genuineness and authenticity that every single day is a deep spiritual experience with the Holy Spirit, now that I'm truly following Jesus Christ and have made God the Lord over all of my life. The entire Bible is a love story. It all fits together in an incredible supernatural way that will blow your mind! God has answered prayers you wouldn't believe me if I told you-- miracles, too many to count. Life is so far from perfect but my spirit is so joyful, so peaceful, I'm happy even when things are a mess lol. I can't make sense of it, other than- it's God. You are loved, you are lovable, you are beautiful, you were worth dying for, God has a big purpose for you. Give your entire life over to Him and unlock the reason why He created you.
@@zacharybaker695 they knew good, but didn't know evil until eating of the tree. Once they knew both good AND EVIL God kicked them out of the garden and cursed mankind forever. Adam and Eve broke God's heart and broke the covenant with God. He was basically saying, "Look, they think they're like us now" (speaking to the trinity) and then the fallout for their actions was handed down. It was not a good thing. He was NOT saying they are god-like. He was merely mimicking satan and reiterated what happens when you disobey God. Your world falls apart, and you're separated from Him.

Wrong, in Job it clearly states that the angles are called the sons of God, also in Genesis it talks about the sons of God. Son of God is not a divine name. Son of Man is the divine name. But yes the angles were called the sons of God, and they slept with women way back then and bad stuff went down.
Can I create anything out of my own hands ? No, so I won’t consider myself a capital G God. But do I feel special enough to call myself a child of God? Yes, almost to a point to where I feel like a god. But if want to feel special to equal being a child of God to being a god, I can see it. Angels were created just as humans were created not saying human and angels are a like but we carry similarity by the means of being, key word, “CREATED”. To be created by God is a pleasure weather being a bird or an angel, to exist is a pleasure, to have God’s DNA inside of us, to be made with His material and formed the way that pleases Him is an honor, I feel as a god to be created by The God. We get wrapped up about the title we have. Honestly I was confused about all of this and Pastor John sort of helped me but I believe the Holy Spirit just now steered me better. Psalm 82:6 calls the judges and rulers of Israel gods and sons of the Most High. They were called gods because they represented God in executing judgement. Jesus is therefore defending himself, the argument being if God would call mere men gods why was it blasphemous for him, the true Son of God, to declare himself equal with God?

Look, Jesus related his answer of stoning with good works not being God or anything else. That means he is saying that he and his father are one in purpose not in divinity. Because earlier he said no one can pluck them from my hand and my father's hand. So, that means believers will remain in their faith. No one can derail them from their faith. He and his father will keep them in their faith. That is why he and his father are one in that purpose. But now Jews want to make false charge against him by hook or by crook. So now they are accusing him by saying you are blaspheming. Now Jesus realized what they are saying. So he answered them that he is just a son of God that means just a prophet. In the Bible you will find that almost all the prophets are called son of God. To refuse their complain more precisely, he showed them from old testament that God called Jews judges gods. But they are not real God. So he is saying that just like in the old testament using the word god, I am not even saying myself god, why are you accusing me of blaspheming. This pastor can't just assume what people were thinking and I don't think people believe they're becoming God's they believe that God is within us if I believed what Christians tell me the only thing I'm supposed to learn from Jesus is that him and God are in control I personally believe he came here to teach us that and that God is within us we too have these Powers through him only!!
Maybe I’m wrong, and I am new to the church, but I believe that Jesus Christ was not using this as a deception to get away(as God never lies). But God in heaven gave him this verse years ago to he who is Christ in the flesh, know to use this at an appointed time to continue to do the will of his father so that he could fulfill the will of his father at an appointed time by only that which God would know. And angels will never be allowed by God to Judge us, because we human beings are the true sons of God(Rom 8:16, Gal 4:6).... In fact it is we the human beings who are Truly the children of God will judge the angels(1 Corinthians 6:3 KJV)... =>>> Psalm 82 does not refers to the the angels that judged the people in a wicked way(God never allowed the angels to judge His people), But God refers to leaders of Israel who judged the people wrongly... In The Old Testament, God never mentioned about the angels as judged and even in the New Testament... I believe that what our Lord means when he calls us/ people that is, gods, is that we make gods of ourselves and others and we worship then. Before you came to know God and the Lord Christ, you worshipped other gods, which have eyes but do not see, ears that do not hear, they have noses but cannot smell, hands they have but cannot feel, they have feet but cannot walk. Now, that is the human race with out the Spirit of God, they are spiritually dead. Our Lord commands us," you shall not have any gods before me, you must not bow down to them or worship them." People who don't know God worship themselves and or other people, like famous movie starts, or singers, football players, models,ect. Did you not have posters all over your walls at one time of your idols? Sometimes we may even worship our animals. If you adore anyone over God, you are worshipping another god! So I don't agree with pastor John in this respect, although I love him and love to hear him preach God's word. But we should always search the scriptures and see if these things be true and ALWAYS ASK GOD TO REVEAL HIS WORD TO YOU! God alone can teach you his word by his Holy Spirit. It´s much simpler than this. Messiah, the King and Redeemer of Israel, came to His own, the Israelites, who were at that time, and still are, ruled under the yoke of ESAU. Herod and the pharisees, high priests etc. were of ESAU. Their "law" is the satanic Talmud. Read Obadiah, Ezekiel 25 (about Edom), Ezekiel 35 and 36. Esau has stolen back the birthright. And Messiah came at that time in order to reveal it. And of course, to join the two stick for the first time (Ezekiel 37, Isaiah 11, John 12 - the "Greeks" are Judah).
But is he not talking to men when he refers to psalm 82 and refers to those men as God's. Other interpretation is that human leaders are equated to God's as they can execute judgement. As God is the ultimate judge, if leaders (men) execute judgement they are compared to God, with only that perspective.
Yeah it’s definitely different saying “Doesn’t your scripture say “you are gods””? And “You are gods.” The former is a question, and technically it is a quote of a quote, because the psalm itself is quoting at that point, and he is quoting the psalm. He did this kind of thing several times and taught us a lot about dealing wisely with such people as the pharisees.

This argument needs more development. It leaves out the fact that Jesus is referring to the ancestors of the Jews, he said God called them gods to whom the word was given, that is why “ye are gods” was written in their laws. This explanation makes sense because Jesus is responding to their criticism that he cannot be a man making himself equal with God. If he was talking about other non human deities in his response, he would not be directly addressing the criticism. Rather he directly rebutted their argument by demonstrating that if God referred to their ancestors as gods, and they were human, surely he being a man could be referred to as the son of God. Thus we see an expansion of the definition of gods, referring to both ethereal and earthly beings. Christian’s have a hard time accepting biblical truth when it goes against the common narrative. But we have to open to expanding our minds to accept all of what the Bible says. The only way to be truly free is to accept the whole truth and nothing but the truth. “and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 KJV
This passage is actually directed towards fallen angels who used to be on the divine council. They are demons now. Its a how much more so argument. If the fallen angels of the council can be called lower case elohims or gods how much more so can the Only Begotten Son be called God.
Actually without listening to this video the higher power that people believe that we are all gods. I don’t believe that I just believe that I am a child of God and that God is in me but we are not gods. People who believe in a higher power they believe that they are a god or of the new age era and not the family of God.

There are atheist and others using this scripture with Psalm 82:6 to say that they are gods. I am looking for an explanation so that I can help bring others to salvation. I do not feel like I completely understand this explanation or believe Jesus needed to escape being stoned but I appreciate you taking it on.
They claim to be gods and David most certainly called them "gods" in that sense. But he also said they will die just like men. When Jesus referenced this it was for a reason. He had just told him he is the son of God, and he and God are one and the same. The Jewish priests yelled and said "nobody can call themselves or anything else a god! That is blasphemy!" But Jesus said "Yo dude, didn't David say, (to the beings and people who claimed godhood.) 'You are gods' ? Because he called those false gods, gods. Wouldn't you stone him?" Then they were confused. And he told them, "If my works are bad and the things I do ungodly, and if I act as one of those false gods then yes I would be lying by calling myself of God and God. But if the miracles and works I do are good and of my father in heaven, then I am not lying to you. And God and I are one and the same." Then they got angry and tried to get him. I absolutely believe you have misled the people in this.There is no referance to angels in psalm 82. Jesus was dealing with hebrew judges and law makers , a part of the 70 member supreme court, the Sanhedrin.The law givers and the judges. Most likely Pharasees. It wasn't just an escape maneuver. They accused Jesus of blaspheming for saying God was his Father. He quotes that Psalm because it says you are sons of the Most High. It is scriptural evidence that God is Father to us all and we being the sons of God, being made in His image we have authority on the earth because as sons of the Most High God we in ourselves are as gods in this world. This is what Jesus came to show humanity and we realize our divinity in the beloved, in Christ, because Jesus Christ came to take away the separation between God and man by being the propitiation for sin. We are the offspring of the Most High God just as the apostle Paul says in Acts 17.

Thx for this answer. BUT our LORD and SAVIOR doesn't have to "deflect" anyone. He is not "deceiving" by quoting Psalm 82. It makes more sense - as he is doing throughout the entire book of John and especially here in John 10 - that he is defending and confirming His identity as "more than human". That he is God. Jesus uses Psalm 82 as proof, that there are other spiritual beings out there. That's it. Plainly reading the text. Why would Jesus want to defuse? He controls when he will go to the cross, so why defuse? He walks through the Jews, who want to push him off the "mountain". He didn't need to "deflect" there. So defending his argument by using Psalm 82 and not deflecting the Jews. That is what I (and others, maybe not so many) think what is going on here. I believe John Pipers' answer here is incorrect. John Piper believes Psalm 82 is speaking of angelic powers and so makes Jesus out to be a liar when speaking to the Jews in John 10:34. Psalm 82 is speaking about the leaders of Israel, just as Jesus says. And not to angelic powers fallen or otherwise. If they indeed fallen angels, why would God demand they act with righteousness? Makes no sense.
There are multiple levels of meaning in the passage. It does teach theosis, but theosis never means a man becoming a part of the Godhead sharing in the Father's essence.

Psalm 95,3 says that "God - is king over the Gods". Psalm 100,3 says that "God created us to be his people, the people He nourishes (feeds). ... What can we NOW get out of it: -We have only ONE God (The King over all Gods). Who are those Gods? - His people. ... So to say: We have many Gods, but only ONE GOD, is in accordance to The Scriptures.

I think you downplayed the words of Jesus here.. he can also mean that we affect reality on a higher level than animals plants and basic intelligence...we have access to spirit and have an adjustable mind so we also have to be responsible and sure of the light of God because just the act of leaning towards God makes us behave better and have better control over our lives than just believing cz you have heard that it is good.
Let's just look at this from a detached perspective to examine the stakes. If we're NOT gods, then it's mightily important that we realise this. Fair comment? If we ARE gods...then....it's also mightily important that we realise it. An equally fair comment? If we're NOT gods...then it's mightily important (to god himself) that he preserves the divine right to suffer no equals? For such a belief alone, wherever it's found amongst men.... (be it right or wrong)......would be enough to annoy and anger god. That is to say....we don't have to actually BE gods to anger the "one, true god..." all we have to do is entertain the very notion or the possibility of such a thing by way of a serious belief. Why though, would this cause the "one true god" to become angry? Wouldn't it be of far more concern to the "one true god" that we'd become entangled with an untruth.....and the one thing god really wants mankind to know (above all else) is truth? So men believing "we're ALL gods" ought not really bother god too much in any significant way...other than that it's an untruth which causes people's self-awareness to be grossly misaligned with who and what they really are? Would WE become angry if an ant began to liken it's own life and consequence as being equal to that of humanity? I don't think "anger" would be one's first emotion. Amusement perhaps.....and perhaps even a little admiration that something so small, whose entire social network we could stomp out with our boot....had somehow attained such belief and aspiration, so as to equate itself "in principle" with beings who are far bigger and far more powerful than it. THIS god's problem....is not that humanity has TOO MUCH belief in it's own importance and consequence, no....this god's problem is that humanity doesn't have ENOUGH belief in its own importance and consequence. This god's problem arises whenever humans look "outside" of themselves for god....rather than "within" themselves. Humanity has adopted the habit (in the name of false humility) of believing their own hearts to be treacherous. Because of this....they psychologically relegate god to some distant, heavenly realm and claim that "prayer" is the most appropriate way to connect with their "god." So if a person's not praying, they're not connecting.....and that leaves such a person with a tremendous amount of time when they're disconnected from their god. Were people to instead believe (or accept) that god dwells within.... (even just conceptually for starters) they would never be able to get away with this externalised model of worship which keeps god as some external being who needs to be summoned...(via prayer)....but who can also be dismissed and ignored for very lengthy periods....(via the absence of prayer) The "prayer" model which targets an external god and is purported to draw him close to the individual....is also the exact, same communication model people use to keep god OUT of their hearts. Just like with a telephone....there are instances were we say: "I have my parent's phone number....they're reachable when I want to contact them, but that doesn't necessarily mean I would want them living with me full time......I have MY OWN life.....and they have theirs..." Yet this is how so many people conduct their "god" relationship.... So naturally...the notion of human beings actually being "gods" themselves contradicts this arrangement. For many, that's just FAR TOO MUCH "god manifestation" to have in your life!! No....let's keep "god" where he belongs.....they argue. Reachable.....but distant. They will argue that this is what god wants.....but really.....it's what THEY want.

We explained the fall of man and Gods resolution by His own atoning blood and transformation power and love of Holy Spirit. After asking who would want to become this new creation, 75% of the villagers stood on their feet. I just said: "Father, Holy Spirit, here are your children, keep them in your truth and make them like you". We had a general fire tunnel. All that went through it got touched by Holy Spirit, wobly on their feet. The day after we prayed for the sick. Children danced in front of us leading us to the homes where people lay sick. Some starving. All got healed. After the 9th healing we looked at eachother and said: this is what the first church was like, all got healed. A woman, later it turned out she was the wife of the head of the Village, was laying on a bed with red swollen legs. In pain. She could not walk. As i prayed for her wholeness, i looked away, looked at her legs again and was like: hey, those legs were red and swollen a second ago... How God does that... well He is God... and He is in us... Another woman had severe stomage issues. After the first "be whole, be healed" prayer, nothing happened. Someone said: "i think it is a 4th generational curse!". Well, that does not change the Gospel so we prayed again. The woman felt "something" leave her stomage and was instantly well. Etc, etc. After a week we stopped by on our way home. The son of the head of the Village. Leaped for joy and said that all we had prayed for had been healed and numereous people had had revelations from Holy Spirit. But, there was this one man he really wanted us to pray for. Antonio. He laid in a chickenshed on a broken bed. Just skin and bones. And angels will never be allowed by God to Judge us, because we human beings are the true sons of God(Rom 8:16, Gal 4:6).... In fact it is we the human beings who are Truly the children of God will judge the angels(1 Corinthians 6:3 KJV)... =>>> Psalm 82 does not refers to the the angels that judged the people in a wicked way(God never allowed the angels to judge His people), But God refers to leaders of Israel who judged the people wrongly... Yeshua didn't say WE are God's, He said, Quote... "Didn't My Father say,"" YOU are gods"". He wasn't speaking to the Church, He was speaking to The Jewish leaders who rejected His Claims of His Diety. He was referring to Psalm 82. In the context, Israel were given the title, gods, because they were separated by God to be light etc to the Gentiles. But as the Psalm explains, they failed at this and died as mere men.

Unfortunately, the Pastor does not give the proper background to the verse. He starts with verse 30,the famous being 'one' with the father verse, and then continues to assert that the Jews were claiming that Jesus was professing to be God. In reality, the background is verse 22, the Festival of Dedication, and the Jews wanted to know if Jesus was claiming to be the mesiah/Christ(v24). The Jews never envisioned the messiah as being God, but one anointed by him; sent by him with his authority. Jesus, as the messiah/Christ, does claim unity with his father, but it is not ontological. It is a unity of purpose. (Just as with the disciples later in the gospel, (John 17:20). The Jews were not claiming that Jesus was making himself 'God' but asserting that his claims made him 'a god'. That is why Jesus refers to Psalm 82 where the judges/.angelic beings are called 'gods'. If they could be called 'gods', how much more could Jesus be called God's Son. (John 10 :36). It is quite wrong to state that Jesus was making a claim to deity in this verse. Those who make such a claim are wishing their presuppositions on the text and ignoring the scriptural and historical background.

Piper REALLY needs help on this. The big thing he ignores is the "I SAID" Declaration of Jesus. Psalm 82/John 10 explained Psalm 82 was written by Asaph the Propphet. Asaph is inspired by God. When it mentions the scripture cannot be broken is about the God of the OT is the same God in the NT in the person of Jesus. The Three persons of God as One and the Same God. Bascially the Father in the OT and the Son in the NT, still the same God (Elohim) John 10: 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken)" Notice in the this verse mentions the "word of God" Jesus Links himself to the same God (Elohim) that spoken thru the Prophet Asaph in Psalm 82. Psalm 82 is for the Jews and directed to the Jews. The Jews received the word of God from Prophets as well as the law. The word of God and the law was for the Jews that is the Divine council/assembly. Where most fail, like is they do not expand on the “word” of the Lord in 3 forms. The “word” of the Lord would come to Prophets like Asaph who wrote Psalm 82. First the “word” was either “Spoken” and Second the “word” was written, this is how the scripture is given, so this is TWO forms of the “word” of the Lord. The Third form is in Jesus, since we are looking at Psalm 82 and John 10, we know that John is the Inspired Author for the Gospel of John. John wrote in John 1:14 “14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” This is how the scripture cannot be broken, linking the OT with the NT with the same God. Most teachers fail because they do not explain the Godhead/Trinity. Jesus is God as the person as the Son. There are THREE Persons of God within the Godhead....Father, Son, and Holy Spirit>>>The Godhead/Trinity. The problem with most scholars and students of the Bible is that they do not expand on the 3 persons of God, who are the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as well as the word/Word>>>>>Spoken, Writen, and Flesh. The other failure is explaining the gods of the OT of Psalm 82 and the gods of the NT John 10. Jesus answers the question on who the Psalm 82 gods are in John 10. Jesus quotes and repeats what God the Father had spoken thru the Inspired Prophet Asaph, Again Asaph wrote in Psalm 82:6 - “I said, you are gods.” Jesus says in John 10:34 “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” Here in John 10:34 Jesus links himself to the same God (Father) in Psalm 82. The phrase and title given "you are gods" is a legalistic title of Authority because the Jews were given the Law. The Jews were given the Law and 10 commandments to govern them and council them, so it is imposible for this to be nonhuman spirit beings or angels. God also established covenants with Humans, not nonhuman spirit beings or angels. For the Jews their Religion and Governig was together, not like the USA where there is a seperation of church and state. In Psalm 78 is more of a reminder chapter for the nation of Isarel. In John 10 Jesus is equating Himself to the same God in Psalm 82, Jesus uses an "I said" statement and declaration. Let's focus in on the words Jesus uses,. He uses an ‘I said”. The “I said” declaration is no different than an “I am” declaration. The “I am” statemanets/declarations and “I said” statement/declaration of Jesus in the Gospel of John are really one and the same. These are not metaphors; rather, they are declarations of God’s name and what He Said through Prphets in the OT, as applied by Jesus to Himself. The first instance of an “I am” comes as Jesus responds to a complaint by the Pharisees. “I tell you the truth,” Jesus says, “before Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58). The verbs Jesus uses are in stark contrast with each other: Abraham was, but I am. There is no doubt that the Jews understood Jesus’ claim to be the eternal God incarnate, because they took up stones to kill Him (verse 59 that would be blasphemy to the Jews because Jesus made Himself out to be God). The same logic is applied to John 10:35, Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” which directly comes from Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High.” A person can clearly see in Psalm 82 and in John 10 it would be Jews being addressed, not nonhuman spirit beings or angels, like some promote. Most people are blinded by false teaching, because the false teaching does not address the "I said" declaration of Jesus being the same God (Elohim) in Psalm 82 .

Romans 5: 12 "Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned" Aslo since God created man from the ground and dies, so man retrurns to the ground. Genesis 3: 17-19 To Adam he said, ‘Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, “You must not eat from it, ‘Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken, for dust you are and to dust you will return.’ Very clear since they die like men it is fitting these men return to the ground from which man (mortal/flesh) came and fall like every ruler/prince (mortal/flesh). God has the Supreme Authority and Rule over the Jews and the whole earth and all rullers. The false teaching as the "gods" as non human/angels blindly uses replacement theology with the rulers/princes it replaces the mortal/flesh with nonhuman/spirits/angels. Another note in Psalm 82 :6 "you are all sons of the Most High". The word "sons" is used, meaning this is Adopted sons, not nonhuman/spirits or angels. That is also replacement theology, The nation of Israel who are Chosen people of God, His Adopted son is the nation Israel. The other nations are NOT, they are pagan. So this is figuratively, not literally. How the is fulfilled prophetically and literally with Jesus as the Word become Flesh standing amoungst the Jews as the Son of God.

Jesus was sarcastic at times though. He was also deliberately confusing at times...Especially during debates. Why? To cause others to lean in and ask questions. Those who didn't care would just check out and walk away. He wanted to sift out the followers from the chaff. Read His conversation with Nicodemus in the Gospel of John. You can't read it without hearing the intonation of sass from both of them. That's bc they were speaking of something they were both incredibly passionate about. There was no wrongdoing, but indeed there is debate and convincing being done on the part of Jesus. He's up against rabbi's, theologians, well-respected religious leaders. He comes at them without formal education on His side but instead the supernatural power of the Spirit. These long discussions and debates are part of what made Him so well known at the time. Our Jesus Christ was a mighty, bold, fearless truth teller when He walked the earth! We can be just as courageous, as we have been adopted by an all powerful Father.

Now here is what religion fails to understand! It is in John 10: 32-34, where a Jewish leaders and such wants to kill Jesus, for saying he was in par with being God. Jesus then defended who He was, by reminding them all, by their own scripture, who they "once were," by the use of Psalms 82. That they, "once" (in another Time, World and Age) stood before Him "in Judgement." And, as “God,” had once said to them: "Ye are gods" [Children of the Most High, but Ye shall all die like men!]. “liken” to physical men themselves that had existed, denoting a future change, from what they were, to what they will be, in another Time, Age and World, in the far future for them all. "Thus, the very same Men," who "were all now" trying to kill Him! The very same Judge (“God”) from out of their very past. Question: Are any of those Jewish (Men) still alive today? Or are they all dead? Therefore, who are You then, that are now reading this, but “once” the very same "Children of God" that were all born from out of a woman, just as Jesus Christ was, “who are also awaiting your own time to die (Psalms 82:7-Hebrew 9: 27) then fulfilling the very same judgement, from out of your own very past.
The Statement "You are gods" is Not referring to angelic beings, but to mortals who have believed in God. You seem to have deliberately ignored how Jesus explained the verse earlier quoted in Psalm 82. I will quote from the words of the Lord Jesus who explained clearly that the expression "you are gods" was referring, "to those to whom the word of the Lord came* (John 10:35). Now we know that the word of the Lord did not come to angels, but to mortal human beings. So why do we wrestle with the scriptures and refuse to believe? The expression " you are gods" refers of course to human beings who have believed God's word ( meaning Jesus the word that became flesh). The expression does not refer to angels at all. Let us not twist God word because we find it hard to believe what the Bible has explained clearly.

There are always clever go between seeking to be the middle man between your and your own authority. Christ is clear, the law of the prophets is clear. We are of God, we are God's.
Does this absolve us from wrong doing and sin, no it requires us to act as God acts, to think as God thinks, and that is our grand test. We've been given the tools, we've been forgiven, we've had many 'do overs,' and it's time to pony up.

Sons of God here are Angel's. But do notice they are always refered to as son's of God- plural. Jesus on they other hand is the only begotten Son Of God. Jesus is God in being and nature.
We on the other hand are only image holders of God.
Angels yes they do not have the image of God, but God was their maker/creator and hence God is their only Father as they are sons of God.
Also Son of God is not the claim to divinity. Son of man is.

To become "as" or "like" is much different than "becoming" God.
We became "like" God by knowing good and evil. But you can obviously see that we are nothing like God in every other aspect. We are weak, fallen, prideful. We have no power to control our own impulses let alone a speck of the power God has.

Here's the truth that I refused to believe before leaving the "new age"
Picking out a couple Bible verses that fit the path I wanted to follow is called heresy and blasphemy. It's an idol of self, and the New Age movement is preying on amazing ppl with the most beautiful loving hearts, who are craving an incredible spiritual experience and deeper meaning. It leads to a road of people pleasing, depression, isolation, anxiety and emptiness.
Can I please tell you with all genuineness and authenticity that every single day is a deep spiritual experience with the Holy Spirit, now that I'm truly following Jesus Christ and have made God the Lord over all of my life. The entire Bible is a love story. It all fits together in an incredible supernatural way that will blow your mind! God has answered prayers you wouldn't believe me if I told you-- miracles, too many to count. Life is so far from perfect but my spirit is so joyful, so peaceful, I'm happy even when things are a mess lol. I can't make sense of it, other than- it's God.
You are loved, you are lovable, you are beautiful, you were worth dying for, God has a big purpose for you. Give your entire life over to Him and unlock the reason why He created you.

Adam and Eve broke God's heart and broke the covenant with God.
He was basically saying, "Look, they think they're like us now" (speaking to the trinity) and then the fallout for their actions was handed down. It was not a good thing. He was NOT saying they are god-like. He was merely mimicking satan and reiterated what happens when you disobey God. Your world falls apart, and you're separated from Him.

Scripture teaches theosis. Not participation in the divine essence as though we can be added to the Trinity. But participation in God's natural activities. We are supposed to image God and be like Him.

Wrong, in Job it clearly states that the angles are called the sons of God, also in Genesis it talks about the sons of God. Son of God is not a divine name. Son of Man is the divine name. Can I create anything out of my own hands ? No, so I won’t consider myself a capital G God. But do I feel special enough to call myself a child of God? Yes, almost to a point to where I feel like a god. But if want to feel special to equal being a child of God to being a god, I can see it. Angels were created just as humans were created not saying human and angels are a like but we carry similarity by the means of being, key word, “CREATED”. To be created by God is a pleasure weather being a bird or an angel, to exist is a pleasure, to have God’s DNA inside of us, to be made with His material and formed the way that pleases Him is an honor, I feel as a god to be created by The God. We get wrapped up about the title we have.

Psalm 82:6 calls the judges and rulers of Israel gods and sons of the Most High. They were called gods because they represented God in executing judgement.
Jesus is therefore defending himself, the argument being if God would call mere men gods why was it blasphemous for him, the true Son of God, to declare himself equal with God?

Look, Jesus related his answer of stoning with good works not being God or anything else. That means he is saying that he and his father are one in purpose not in divinity. Because earlier he said no one can pluck them from my hand and my father's hand. So, that means believers will remain in their faith. No one can derail them from their faith. He and his father will keep them in their faith. That is why he and his father are one in that purpose. But now Jews want to make false charge against him by hook or by crook. So now they are accusing him by saying you are blaspheming. Now Jesus realized what they are saying. So he answered them that he is just a son of God that means just a prophet. In the Bible you will find that almost all the prophets are called son of God. To refuse their complain more precisely, he showed them from old testament that God called Jews judges gods. This pastor can't just assume what people were thinking and I don't think people believe they're becoming God's they believe that God is within us if I believed what Christians tell me the only thing I'm supposed to learn from Jesus is that him and God are in control I personally believe he came here to teach us that and that God is within us we too have these Powers through him only!!

I believe that what our Lord means when he calls us/ people that is, gods, is that we make gods of ourselves and others and we worship then. Before you came to know God and the Lord Christ, you worshipped other gods, which have eyes but do not see, ears that do not hear, they have noses but cannot smell, hands they have but cannot feel, they have feet but cannot walk. Now, that is the human race with out the Spirit of God, they are spiritually dead. Our Lord commands us," you shall not have any gods before me, you must not bow down to them or worship them." People who don't know God worship themselves and or other people, like famous movie starts, or singers, football players, models,ect. Did you not have posters all over your walls at one time of your idols? Sometimes we may even worship our animals. If you adore anyone over God, you are worshipping another god! So I don't agree with pastor John in this respect, although I love him and love to hear him preach God's word. But we should always search the scriptures and see if these things be true and ALWAYS ASK GOD TO REVEAL HIS WORD TO YOU! God alone can teach you his word by his Holy Spirit. It´s much simpler than this. Messiah, the King and Redeemer of Israel, came to His own, the Israelites, who were at that time, and still are, ruled under the yoke of ESAU. Herod and the pharisees, high priests etc. were of ESAU. Their "law" is the satanic Talmud. Read Obadiah, Ezekiel 25 (about Edom), Ezekiel 35 and 36. Esau has stolen back the birthright. And Messiah came at that time in order to reveal it. And of course, to join the two stick for the first time (Ezekiel 37, Isaiah 11, John 12 - the "Greeks" are Judah).

Other interpretation is that human leaders are equated to God's as they can execute judgement. As God is the ultimate judge, if leaders (men) execute judgement they are compared to God, with only that perspective.

Yeah it’s definitely different saying “Doesn’t your scripture say “you are gods””? And “You are gods.” The former is a question, and technically it is a quote of a quote, because the psalm itself is quoting at that point, and he is quoting the psalm. He did this kind of thing several times and taught us a lot about dealing wisely with such people as the pharisees.

This argument needs more development. It leaves out the fact that Jesus is referring to the ancestors of the Jews, he said God called them gods to whom the word was given, that is why “ye are gods” was written in their laws. This explanation makes sense because Jesus is responding to their criticism that he cannot be a man making himself equal with God. If he was talking about other non human deities in his response, he would not be directly addressing the criticism. Rather he directly rebutted their argument by demonstrating that if God referred to their ancestors as gods, and they were human, surely he being a man could be referred to as the son of God. Thus we see an expansion of the definition of gods, referring to both ethereal and earthly beings.
Christian’s have a hard time accepting biblical truth when it goes against the common narrative. But we have to open to expanding our minds to accept all of what the Bible says. The only way to be truly free is to accept the whole truth and nothing but the truth. “and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

This passage is actually directed towards fallen angels who used to be on the divine council. They are demons now. Its a how much more so argument. If the fallen angels of the council can be called lower case elohims or gods how much more so can the Only Begotten Son be called God.

There are atheist and others using this scripture with Psalm 82:6 to say that they are gods. I am looking for an explanation so that I can help bring others to salvation. I do not feel like I completely understand this explanation or believe Jesus needed to escape being stoned but I appreciate you taking it on.
They claim to be gods and David most certainly called them "gods" in that sense. But he also said they will die just like men. When Jesus referenced this it was for a reason. He had just told him he is the son of God, and he and God are one and the same. The Jewish priests yelled and said "nobody can call themselves or anything else a god! That is blasphemy!" But Jesus said "Yo dude, didn't David say, (to the beings and people who claimed godhood.) 'You are gods' ? Because he called those false gods, gods. Wouldn't you stone him?" Then they were confused. And he told them, "If my works are bad and the things I do ungodly, and if I act as one of those false gods then yes I would be lying by calling myself of God and God. But if the miracles and works I do are good and of my father in heaven, then I am not lying to you. And God and I are one and the same." Then they got angry and tried to get him. Really simple, not hard to explain at all.

After the 9th healing we looked at eachother and said: this is what the first church was like, all got healed.
A woman, later it turned out she was the wife of the head of the Village, was laying on a bed with red swollen legs. In pain. She could not walk. As i prayed for her wholeness, i looked away, looked at her legs again and was like: hey, those legs were red and swollen a second ago... How God does that... well He is God... and He is in us...
Another woman had severe stomage issues. After the first "be whole, be healed" prayer, nothing happened. Someone said: "i think it is a 4th generational curse!". Well, that does not change the Gospel so we prayed again. The woman felt "something" leave her stomage and was instantly well.

It wasn't just an escape maneuver. They accused Jesus of blaspheming for saying God was his Father. He quotes that Psalm because it says you are sons of the Most High. It is scriptural evidence that God is Father to us all and we being the sons of God, being made in His image we have authority on the earth because as sons of the Most High God we in ourselves are as gods in this world. This is what Jesus came to show humanity and we realize our divinity in the beloved, in Christ, because Jesus Christ came to take away the separation between God and man by being the propitiation for sin. Thx for this answer. BUT our LORD and SAVIOR doesn't have to "deflect" anyone. He is not "deceiving" by quoting Psalm 82. It makes more sense - as he is doing throughout the entire book of John and especially here in John 10 - that he is defending and confirming His identity as "more than human". That he is God. Jesus uses Psalm 82 as proof, that there are other spiritual beings out there. That's it. Plainly reading the text. Why would Jesus want to defuse? He controls when he will go to the cross, so why defuse? He walks through the Jews, who want to push him off the "mountain". He didn't need to "deflect" there.
So defending his argument by using Psalm 82 and not deflecting the Jews. That is what I (and others, maybe not so many) think what is going on here.

And angels will never be allowed by God to Judge us, because we human beings are the true sons of God(Rom 8:16, Gal 4:6).... I believe John Pipers' answer here is incorrect. John Piper believes Psalm 82 is speaking of angelic powers and so makes Jesus out to be a liar when speaking to the Jews in John 10:34. Psalm 82 is speaking about the leaders of Israel, just as Jesus says. And not to angelic powers fallen or otherwise. If they indeed fallen angels, why would God demand they act with righteousness? Makes no sense.
There are multiple levels of meaning in the passage. It does teach theosis, but theosis never means a man becoming a part of the Godhead sharing in the Father's essence.

I think you downplayed the words of Jesus here.. he can also mean that we affect reality on a higher level than animals plants and basic intelligence...we have access to spirit and have an adjustable mind so we also have to be responsible and sure of the light of God because just the act of leaning towards God makes us behave better and have better control over our lives than just believing cz you have heard that it is good.

Let's just look at this from a detached perspective to examine the stakes. If we're NOT gods, then it's mightily important that we realise this. Fair comment? If we ARE gods...then....it's also mightily important that we realise it. An equally fair comment?
If we're NOT gods...then it's mightily important (to god himself) that he preserves the divine right to suffer no equals? For such a belief alone, wherever it's found amongst men.... (be it right or wrong)......would be enough to annoy and anger god. That is to say....we don't have to actually BE gods to anger the "one, true god..." all we have to do is entertain the very notion or the possibility of such a thing by way of a serious belief.
Why though, would this cause the "one true god" to become angry?
Wouldn't it be of far more concern to the "one true god" that we'd become entangled with an untruth.....and the one thing god really wants mankind to know (above all else) is truth?
So men believing "we're ALL gods" ought not really bother god too much in any significant way...other than that it's an untruth which causes people's self-awareness to be grossly misaligned with who and what they really are?
Would WE become angry if an ant began to liken it's own life and consequence as being equal to that of humanity? I don't think "anger" would be one's first emotion. Amusement perhaps.....and perhaps even a little admiration that something so small, whose entire social network we could stomp out with our boot....had somehow attained such belief and aspiration, so as to equate itself "in principle" with beings who are far bigger and far more powerful than it.
But what if the ant was actually right (in principle) and we were wrong? Just because we can look down upon the ant and violate it's entire world on a whim....does that give us the right to claim species superiority over it? Or does the size and power we wield in comparison to the ant...alone....settle the argument? Are WE the better, more superior species for no other significant reason than that we're just so much BIGGER than it? Are we superior solely because of our relative "might" over the ant?
This is a question that "one, true god" believers really ought to ask themselves. Do they bow down to their "one, true god" simply because they perceive him to be bigger and far more powerful than humanity as a species? Is this also, perhaps the reason why they try and take great pains not to ever "anger" such a god? If...for example, they were told that god doesn't like humanity equating themselves with him....(even just in thought)....then is that good reason alone never to be caught entertaining such thoughts? Not because it's not true necessarily....but moreso because it's just dangerous to make the "one, true god" angry?
These are question that only each individual can answer in their own case.
Let's now envisage a different god entirely. Let's envisage a god who actually wants humanity to grow, develop and become just like "gods" themselves. Let's envisage a god who does not feel "threatened" or " insecure" about such a notion....he actively seeks to promote this level of self-awareness and self-belief within humanity. A god who once made man in his own image, and who is determined to see this work through to a successful outcome.
THIS god's problem....is not that humanity has TOO MUCH belief in it's own importance and consequence, no....this god's problem is that humanity doesn't have ENOUGH belief in its own importance and consequence. This god's problem arises whenever humans look "outside" of themselves for god....rather than "within" themselves.
Humanity has adopted the habit (in the name of false humility) of believing their own hearts to be treacherous. Because of this....they psychologically relegate god to some distant, heavenly realm and claim that "prayer" is the most appropriate way to connect with their "god." So if a person's not praying, they're not connecting.....and that leaves such a person with a tremendous amount of time when they're disconnected from their god.
Were people to instead believe (or accept) that god dwells within.... (even just conceptually for starters) they would never be able to get away with this externalised model of worship which keeps god as some external being who needs to be summoned...(via prayer)....but who can also be dismissed and ignored for very lengthy periods....(via the absence of prayer)
The "prayer" model which targets an external god and is purported to draw him close to the individual....is also the exact, same communication model people use to keep god OUT of their hearts.
Just like with a telephone....there are instances were we say:
"I have my parent's phone number....they're reachable when I want to contact them, but that doesn't necessarily mean I would want them living with me full time......I have MY OWN life.....and they have theirs..."
Yet this is how so many people conduct their "god" relationship....
So naturally...the notion of human beings actually being "gods" themselves contradicts this arrangement. For many, that's just FAR TOO MUCH "god manifestation" to have in your life!!
No....let's keep "god" where he belongs.....they argue.

We had a general fire tunnel. All that went through it got touched by Holy Spirit, wobly on their feet. The day after we prayed for the sick. Children danced in front of us leading us to the homes where people lay sick. Some starving. All got healed.
After the 9th healing we looked at eachother and said: this is what the first church was like, all got healed.
A woman, later it turned out she was the wife of the head of the Village, was laying on a bed with red swollen legs. In pain. She could not walk. As i prayed for her wholeness, i looked away, looked at her legs again and was like: hey, those legs were red and swollen a second ago... How God does that... well He is God... and He is in us...
Another woman had severe stomage issues. After the first "be whole, be healed" prayer, nothing happened. Someone said: "i think it is a 4th generational curse!". Well, that does not change the Gospel so we prayed again. The woman felt "something" leave her stomage and was instantly well.

After a week we stopped by on our way home. The son of the head of the Village. Leaped for joy and said that all we had prayed for had been healed and numereous people had had revelations from Holy Spirit. But, there was this one man he really wanted us to pray for. Antonio.
He laid in a chickenshed on a broken bed. Just skin and bones. It turned out that in his teenage years he had been wandering of in to the mountains, screaming and yelling for years, returned home, laid down, never moved again, never spoke again. Total muscle loss. Total contraction. Unable to move.
I crawled up to him, embraced him on his bed standing in his faeces. Loved on him, cried over him, spoke healing, completeness over him, said it was all over, that Jesus has come to make him whole again. In the mean time i said: Jesus am i doing ok? He answered: you're doing just fine.
We washed him. Dressed him up. All on his bed. Then suddenly i heard Holy Spirit say: get him on his feet! So i took his hand and said: arise! And pulled him up on his feet. Wobly but standing, he made his first steps in 15 years. The whole village went banana's praising God. We gave some last instructions and drove home.
God stooped down in Christ to give us back the divine life Adam let go of in the fall of man. What a resolve, what a God, what a love.

And angels will never be allowed by God to Judge us, because we human beings are the true sons of God(Rom 8:16, Gal 4:6).... In fact it is we the human beings who are Truly the children of God will judge the angels(1 Corinthians 6:3 KJV)... =>>> Psalm 82 does not refers to the the angels that judged the people in a wicked way(God never allowed the angels to judge His people), But God refers to leaders of Israel who judged the people wrongly... In The Old Testament, God never mentioned about the angels as judged and even in the New Testament... Yeshua didn't say WE are God's, He said, Quote... "Didn't My Father say,"" YOU are gods"". He wasn't speaking to the Church, He was speaking to The Jewish leaders who rejected His Claims of His Diety. He was referring to Psalm 82. In the context, Israel were given the title, gods, because they were separated by God to be light etc to the Gentiles. But as the Psalm explains, they failed at this and died as mere men.

Unfortunately, the Pastor does not give the proper background to the verse. He starts with verse 30,the famous being 'one' with the father verse, and then continues to assert that the Jews were claiming that Jesus was professing to be God.
In reality, the background is verse 22, the Festival of Dedication, and the Jews wanted to know if Jesus was claiming to be the mesiah/Christ(v24). The Jews never envisioned the messiah as being God, but one anointed by him; sent by him with his authority. Jesus, as the messiah/Christ, does claim unity with his father, but it is not ontological. It is a unity of purpose. (Just as with the disciples later in the gospel, (John 17:20). The Jews were not claiming that Jesus was making himself 'God' but asserting that his claims made him 'a god'. That is why Jesus refers to Psalm 82 where the judges/.angelic beings are called 'gods'. If they could be called 'gods', how much more could Jesus be called God's Son. (John 10 :36).
It is quite wrong to state that Jesus was making a claim to deity in this verse. Those who make such a claim are wishing their presuppositions on the text and ignoring the scriptural and historical background.

Psalm 82 was written by Asaph the Propphet. Asaph is inspired by God.

First the “word” was either “Spoken” and Second the “word” was written, this is how the scripture is given, so this is TWO forms of the “word” of the Lord. The Third form is in Jesus, since we are looking at Psalm 82 and John 10, we know that John is the Inspired Author for the Gospel of John. This is how the scripture cannot be broken, linking the OT with the NT with the same God. Most teachers fail because they do not explain the Godhead/Trinity. Jesus is God as the person as the Son. For the Jews their Religion and Governig was together, not like the USA where there is a seperation of church and state.

Asaph wrote in Psalm 78 the Jews having the law. Psalm 78: 9 The men of Ephraim, though armed with bows, turned back on the day of battle 10 they did not keep God’s covenant
and refused to live by his law." In Psalm 78 is more of a reminder chapter for the nation of Isarel.
In John 10 Jesus is equating Himself to the same God in Psalm 82, Jesus uses an "I said" statement and declaration.
Let's focus in on the words Jesus uses,. He uses an ‘I said”. The “I said” declaration is no different than an “I am” declaration.
The “I am” statemanets/declarations and “I said” statement/declaration of Jesus in the Gospel of John are really one and the same. These are not metaphors; rather, they are declarations of God’s name and what He Said through Prphets in the OT, as applied by Jesus to Himself. The first instance of an “I am” comes as Jesus responds to a complaint by the Pharisees. “I tell you the truth,” Jesus says, “before Abraham was born, I am!” (John 8:58). The verbs Jesus uses are in stark contrast with each other: Abraham was, but I am. There is no doubt that the Jews understood Jesus’ claim to be the eternal God incarnate, because they took up stones to kill Him (verse 59 that would be blasphemy to the Jews because Jesus made Himself out to be God). The same logic is applied to John 10:35, Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” which directly comes from Psalm 82:6 I said, “You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High.”
A person can clearly see in Psalm 82 and in John 10 it would be Jews being addressed, not nonhuman spirit beings or angels, like some promote. Most people are blinded by false teaching, because the false teaching does not address the "I said" declaration of Jesus being the same God (Elohim) in Psalm 82 .

Very clear since they die like men it is fitting these men return to the ground from which man (mortal/flesh) came and fall like every ruler/prince (mortal/flesh). God has the Supreme Authority and Rule over the Jews and the whole earth and all rullers. The false teaching as the "gods" as non human/angels blindly uses replacement theology with the rulers/princes it replaces the mortal/flesh with nonhuman/spirits/angels. Another note in Psalm 82 :6 "you are all sons of the Most High". The word "sons" is used, meaning this is Adopted sons, not nonhuman/spirits or angels. That is also replacement theology,

So this is figuratively, not literally. How the is fulfilled prophetically and literally with Jesus as the Word become Flesh standing amoungst the Jews as the Son of God.

Jesus was sarcastic at times though. He was also deliberately confusing at times...Especially during debates. Why? To cause others to lean in and ask questions. Those who didn't care would just check out and walk away. He wanted to sift out the followers from the chaff. Read His conversation with Nicodemus in the Gospel of John. You can't read it without hearing the intonation of sass from both of them. That's bc they were speaking of something they were both incredibly passionate about.
There was no wrongdoing, but indeed there is debate and convincing being done on the part of Jesus. He's up against rabbi's, theologians, well-respected religious leaders. He comes at them without formal education on His side but instead the supernatural power of the Spirit. These long discussions and debates are part of what made Him so well known at the time. Our Jesus Christ was a mighty, bold, fearless truth teller when He walked the earth! We can be just as courageous, as we have been adopted by an all powerful Father.
@@bodyofhope I agree that at times Jesus was confusing, especially when dealing with the religious leaders who opposed Him.In fact, I would add that He was sometimes hard to understand, even by those who were closest to Him.However, sarcasm is something completely different in that it is saying something without actually meaning it, or even deceptive speech.The thing about Jesus is that when He speaks it is God speaking.That is why when He was on trial before His crucifixion, He never uttered a word, and never defended Himself, though He was actually not guilty of what He was accused of.If He would have done so, His whole intention of laying down His life would have been severely hampered and even undone by His own words.That is why He could never say something He doesn't mean to say, or say anything without intended consequences.At times when speaking He may have been vague, or even confusing, but that is something entirely different than sarcasm.You can't just explain away something in the Bible, by saying that it is just sarcasm, just because it is something controversial, and you don't understand it.That is not what Pastor John Piper did.

Now here is what religion fails to understand! It is in John 10: 32-34, where a Jewish leaders and such wants to kill Jesus, for saying he was in par with being God. "Thus, the very same Men," who "were all now" trying to kill Him! The very same Judge (“God”) from out of their very past. Question: Are any of those Jewish (Men) still alive today? Or are they all dead? Therefore, who are You then, that are now reading this, but “once” the very same "Children of God" that were all born from out of a woman, just as Jesus Christ was, “who are also awaiting your own time to die (Psalms 82:7-Hebrew 9: 27) then fulfilling the very same judgement, from out of your own very past.
This is a strange interpretation of the text. I love Piper, but I think he's off on this one.
The Statement "You are gods" is Not referring to angelic beings, but to mortals who have believed in God. You seem to have deliberately ignored how Jesus explained the verse earlier quoted in Psalm 82. I will quote from the words of the Lord Jesus who explained clearly that the expression "you are gods" was referring, "to those to whom the word of the Lord came* (John 10:35). Now we know that the word of the Lord did not come to angels, but to mortal human beings. So why do we wrestle with the scriptures and refuse to believe? The expression " you are gods" refers of course to human beings who have believed God's word ( meaning Jesus the word that became flesh). The expression does not refer to angels at all. Let us not twist God word because we find it hard to believe what the Bible has explained clearly.
