My story is similar, I'm older than you though! Like you said, BLACKPINK changed my life and my whole world view of music and people as well. I had a preconceived image of K-Pop and seeing BLACKPINK totally opened my eyes. Even more, by watching them behind the scenes I realized how alike people are, no matter where we are in the world. We all want the same things; to be happy and healthy, and we all struggle in our own ways. I found them at a pretty low point in my life and they helped me find my smile again. Seeing them in Newark was kind of hard to describe, I don't want to use the word religious, but I felt the love in the room that night. I felt the love that we were all aiming at the girls and I could see and feel the energy that they got from it. They felt it too, for sure.
Because Blackpink's videos are literally handmade with no green screen, they take months to plan, build, shoot and edit, not to mention developing and learning the choreography to perfection. I'm awed by the creative product that this group releases into the world. Eye popping and memorable MV's filled with symbolism.

You should the check out whistle, whistle is their another debut song, its included mind blowing things too. While you are listening whistle you can hear someone whistleing. That whistle belongs to a member Jisoo. Its amazing!!! She is the visual and lead vocalist to group. Actually you can noticed her with her husky and deep voice in every song. And she is super super super beautiful. Every girl is beautiful in Blackpink but Jisoo hits different.
I really think you'd enjoy their Dance Practice videos, as well as their behind the scenes "Making of" videos. It's pretty cool to see their sets etc. If I could make the next song suggestion (beyond "Whistle" which released the same time this song did), do them in order! It's great to just see their growth and how they've evolved.
Sorry but no one debuted like that, even now after almost 5 years I watch it and think how legendary it was😍😍😍 they debuted really hard, music, dance, outfits, looks, mv everything top quality 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The more you watch of Black Pink, BTS and other artists in this industry, the faster you'll be able to read the closed captions. You'll surprise yourself how quickly you'll pick it up. Plus I've seen these videos tons of times. Because they're all so good.

Your point about kpop being incredibly versatile is definitely on-point. It's been that way for a long time. My favorite kpop group is T-ARA, a 2nd generation kpop girl group that debuted in 2009, and are still active (but mostly now as actresses and solo artists; although they've said that they will release more music as a group sometime this year). The T-ARA members are super talented, and T-ARA is known as the chameleons of kpop for their ability to do pretty much any genre of music and any concept - hip-hop, ballads, EDM, and pop in many different styles, from super cutesy (Bunny Style and Roly Poly) to very dark and brooding (Day by Day and Cry Cry). They've done tributes to Michael Jackson's Thriller in their videos (their Lovey Dovey MV), nostalgic throwback videos (their Roly Poly long form video) and even mini-movie videos in 2 parts that last over 30 minutes. They have a massive discography with a huge number of hit songs. Despite coming from a smaller company and going through a bullying scandal that nearly ruined them (later proven to be completely false), they have become one of the top selling kpop girl groups of all time. Though they are less known than the newer kpop groups in the US and Europe, they are still hugely popular in China, Vietnam, and SE Asia. Their story - how they went from being perhaps the most popular kpop girl group ever and hugely successful to being almost universally hated literally overnight, endured it all, resurrected their careers in Japan, China, Vietnam, and SE Asia, and were finally vindicated and regained their popularity in Korea - is for me anyway, actually inspiring and is one of the things that made me a fan.
