Doing even the simplest, cheapest weaving project is very relaxing, and it also helps you to have better insights about your life as well. It's the ultimate "therapy" craft.
It's a cotton thread that I dyed, but I don't remember the weight of it! I think you can use anything, though. Slippery yarns would be tricky for a warp unfortunately.
From a design perspective, it's just visual interest, but I like to think of them as portholes of the imagination. Where might that wormhole take you if you were able to crawl through?

Spring Bird Studios I wonder if the Indians used them in their work. I do know that a weaver would work certain designs off the piece to allow spirits to exit the piece. Navajo I think but don’t quote me on that!

Yes, I think you could thread beads onto the weft thread. I think that would be lovely!
