I like the idea, can you add a little bit of history, like when the price tag explode and why. For exemple, bazaar of Bagdad was not played when it was printed, and was cheap, his price tag have strongly change with dredge. Tabernacle has always been a played card, so his price has always been high. I understand that may be subjective. Thanks again for your videos.
@@lanfrancoadreani9212 you could be right about birds of paradise, but the foiled 7th edition one... it would maybe be on the list. as for most expensive artifacts... everyone knows the top 6 already lol.
This is a video I stumbled on recently and I was shocked what was on the list. I got into the game pre alpha and stayed for only a few years but got into it again recently after finding my old binder full of near mint or mint as I sleeve or store cards strait from opening and looking over it I have several cards that seem to be worth a lot. Including about a dozen copies of Gaea's Cradle I thought was a neat land back in my teenager days. This is pretty damn cool, thanks for the epic video you just made my day!
This type of top 10 was interesting. Unlike the usual ones the discussion surrounding each card was more widely ranged. Not only did you discuss tournament results but also edh play and the specific history surrounding each version to explain the prices. Overall enjoyed this type of top 10 and look forward to seeing some more of these
I love this video! Maybe add the month year in the title (or maybe it's added when we revisit the list in the future). Also love the history touch in the card's writeup! Great work as always
Value Top 10's would be a cool series. Most expensive card types, cards that have increased most from release to now, cards that depreciated most from realease to now, or even most expensive top 8 decks would be fun to see.
Having watched countless previous iterations of this series of yours, I can tell you that I found this take on it also entertaining. I think that coupling the card prices with the stories of the cards themselves, why they are so expensive, how they were made, and what decks they were in really makes this enjoyable for me. It's also important to keep a longstanding series fresh, and I support this take on it.
Honorable mention for summer magic duals. There currently isnt even a price on them as they are so rare there are basically no listings anywhere. Probably more rare than alpha edition and possibly more expensive but its hard to prove.
I like the idea of prices of certain types of cards, but not as much specific printings. Cards with the highest minimum value would be more interesting to me personally, mentioning an especially expensive printing would be neat but not as much as a card where even the cheapest version is still significantly expensive. Expensive printings of cheaper cards could easily be its own series though
This it what I came to say. It should be most expensive minimum price. No one plays with Arabian Nights City of Brass, having so many cheaper options. But Duals, the Tabernacle, and Gaea's Cradle... that's another story. The video itself could be a commentary on scarcity, lack of meaningful reprints, and the Reserved List.
I love the twist on this type of list. maybe a list just about different versions of basic lands? guru lands and summer lands are special version that most don't know about. but I am sure that a historian such as you can find more interesting cases?
The Mutavault is foil. The guru basic lands have another unique feature: The eye symbol where the expansion symbol is located is a metallic stamp in an unusual color, i think it was violet or orange or something.
Really cool video! I liked this fresh perspective on Magic history. Especially relevant given the absurd price hikes that occurred over the past few years.
Got it in Japanese and Korean at quite reasonable prices that would not make the list. No reprints no foils no fancy versions just straight up Urzas Saga, the last set to not include foils.
Price is an interesting ranking mechanism along with discussion of its place. I think that the most interesting parts were where you discuss how the price aligns-or doesn't-with its pro level performance.
Despite being very much not a wealthy person, I always like to think I can appreciate a good super expensive thing, especially card games. I was convinced Tabernacle would be #1, forgetting that the dual lands had more expensive prints. But what I'm most of all convinced is that many of these cards would absolutely make it onto "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!
Great concept! I'm just at the start, but my bet is 100% on Bazaar of Baghdad being #1. Having owned 2 back-in-the-day when I only had to pay $125 for each, they've gone completely haywire in price since 2005. Edit: Bazaar is #4??? Wow, Nizzahon, you truly have my undivided attention (after I type this) at what is at the top of the list, but given it includes special versions, I am curious to if there's any regular versions higher in the list.
When it comes to cards from Arabian Nights, Antiquities and Legends, I strongly believe that the value is largely linked to the scarcity of their original printing, especially in excellent or near mint conditions, but I don't think that the RL has as much of an impact on them as many people believe. Examples such as ARN City of Brass or ATQ four season of Mishra's Factory, cards that have been later reprinted to the ground and whose newest versions are worth pennies, would appear to suggest so. Different story for cards of the Urza block and that era with larger print-runs, or with the (admittedly ugly looking) Revised Duals, which I am convincent would see significant drop in value were they ever reprinted in a signifcant manner.
The thing is, it is already priced in. What would Birds of Paradise or City of Brass be worth without reprints? It is priced in that some have been reprinted a lot and others have not. If Mishras Workshop had been printed into the ground and strip mine would only exist in antiquities, their prices would be flipped around.
Oh, it's certain that the scarcity of the original printing is a major factor, but the inability to reprint is also one as well. The scarcity of original print run affects cards which only had one printing because the supply is the same for a higher demand, since both collectors AND players want them. If they have a reprint, only the collectors really want the most expensive version, where as the players will take what they can get.
You're missing out on the two most expensive lands! The Summer lands as well as the Foil testprints of City of Traitors! The latter definitely won't go for less than 30k$
of all the cards on the reserve list to me the original duals should not have been put on it. Thanks to it we have been stuck with sub par to awful duals for way too long. I like this new format .

@@ROMANTIKILLER2 Of course, I mean that the reserve list is highly flawed. I want them to reprint the duals in just supplemental sets like masters or commander sets. Make more affordable printing without affecting format legality.
@@johnnyjoestar4473 I would join the class action lawsuit against Hasbro if any of my cards lose value due to reprints. You can sue for the price difference in that case.
@@kurtilein3 There wouldn't be much of any. When WOTC has taken cards off of the list in the past, no one ever filed a lawsuit. Removing any other cards, by that reasoning, would have the same outcome.
Another interesting list. Personally, I would like to have seen how many points each of these cards would have based on your system. Looking forward for a few more of these sorts of videos.
The "Judge's Foil" Gaea's Cradle actually wasn't only given to judges. During the "Player Rewards" program, WotC would send a DCI player premium cards in the mail based on the number of tournaments they played in (a minor card for the first tournament, a major card after 10, if I remember correctly). Often, these would be foil versions of cards not available otherwise (Wasteland, as an example). The "Judge's foil" Gaea's Cradle was sent out as part of this program. I can attest to this, as that is how I got mine. Per my understanding, WotC ran out of the cards they intended to send out and simply substituted extras they had of these. It wasn't an insignificant number, either. Many people who stated they have this card said they got it in the mail and were not a judge.
Full art mutavault was a top 8 price at a 2 headed giant champs event in the UK, 16 were given out at this 1 event. Theres got to way more than 100 out there.

I liked this! I’d be more interested in comparing least expensive near-mint versions, or at least including the least expensive price tag underneath the most expensive price tag for reference.
An idea for a future list of this nature (though I suspect this one may need to be saved for a milestone video, because the research time is likely going to be substantial compared to an average video): Basic lands excluded, what are the top 10 most cost-efficient cards in Magic? The 10 cards with the most points per dollar, based on your ranking system, using the cheapest printing.

And to think I sold my full set of Unlimited dual lands (40 cards) for about $800 back around 2000 (I forget the exact year and price, but something like that). I had already sold my power nine a few years earlier when I had stopped playing, mainly due to my local group disbanding. If I had kept everything I had until now, I could just about retire off of them, but at the time I need extra cash, so it is what it is. :P
I was really hoping you would get around to price points. One of the ideas I have been wanting to pitch to you is in your deck history videos, could you price out the decks so that I don't get Psyched out on a particular archetype only to find out that it is a $750 Modern decklist?
I like this, but I'm torn on how it's being done. To me (my opinion), it makes more sense to base this only the *cheapest tournament legal* versions of each card. I feel this falls more in line with previous MTGT10 videos, which focused on the playability of cards. Multivault is a prime example. Anyone can get the card comparatively cheaply; they just need to ignore the ~100 oddball exceptions. Still, it's a fresh idea and I'm down for it. Great content as always, Nizzahon!

Why didn’t the foil original Polluted Delta from Onslaught make the list? CK has NM listed for $1,699 (but not in stock) and that’s within 12 hours of uploading this. Is this just meant to show items that are only available for purchase from the site?

Including alternate arts and treatments of cards really makes the point of this list moot, as the #10 spot shows. If you can get Mutavault for $7 USD then it's not really an expensive land. If you do this list in the future, I'd like to see you take the prices of the versions that are the most recent, draft booster, non-special treatment printings.
I'm sad you didn't include summer magic on this list I do understand they are very hard to price out. but they are by far the most expense basics and compete with alpha for dual pricing.

Yes, yes, more please. I was wondering if the Guru lands woukd be on here. I remember when we were shocked to see basics for 10$, never thought they would be this high tho. I wish my lil brother had kept his collection to sell for future kids or something cuz he gave away most of his cards to the LGS. Tho at least I'm happy to see Gaea's Cradle on here. I have a regular Spanish version so hopefully it is around the same price as the English version. I don't ever plan on selling my cards but when i die im sure my family will enjoy the small payday to help ease the expenses of death
Thumbs up for this kind of videos! I'll never be able to buy any cards like this, but it's fun to dream.
Definitely like this idea for a new set of videos!
i think a great idea would be : MOST EXPENSIVE of each color.
Trick question - Proxies and knockoffs mean all lands are effectively the same price.
I like this idea for lists, keep it up!
Yeah this was an amazing idea. Really appreciate the content!
Why didn’t the foil original Polluted Delta from Onslaught make the list? CK has NM listed for $1,699 (but not in stock) and that’s within 12 hours of uploading this. Is this just meant to show items that are only available for purchase from the site?
For whatever reason, the way I did this list didn't include foils unless they were separate printings. So, yeah -- the foil fetches from Onslaught should have been on here.
@@NizzahonMagic right on! Was just curious. They have a soft spot for me because I got my delta for free at scourge prerelease. I had quit magic around Urza block and came back for scourge as a buddy invited me. I put down a buck for a random drawing, and won a booster box of onslaught and it had the foil delta in it. My buddies freaked out and I was like ‘uhh what’s the big deal’ LOL now it’s the most expensive card I have
I know of a certain Magic collector and content creator grinning behind his binder of Bazaar of Bagdad's.
The original dual lands also have the stripey card backs of wonder. XD
Awesome, but really want to see the price for cheapest version for every member.
Or even do the opposite, compare not the most expensive, but the cheapest prices. It might be even cooler.
I'm not crying because I had multiple dual lands that were given away and a City of Brass.
Surprised you didn’t mention the revised versions of the dual lands.
lol :)
i just went back and check my old magic cards i got 2 gaia cradle, according thos this each card is 900 bones, so i got 1800 bones, how do i go about and sell these without going thru ebay and craiglists
Always enjoy your content.
Glad to hear it!
Where’s the best place to get tournament info about old formats like the late 90s?
I like the idea, no complains from my side
I liked it Nizza, fantastic as always.
I'm sad you didn't include summer magic on this list I do understand they are very hard to price out. but they are by far the most expense basics and compete with alpha for dual pricing.
I like the new top ten. I would love to see more expirementation.
if you can continue this serie it would be awesome!
