Another note with Nesting Ground - the second target doesn't have to be one you control. You could even just use it to move -1/-1 counters from your creatures to your opponents'. There's probably other counters as well. For instance there was a legendary creature that put bounty counters on your creatures. I don't remember what they did exactly, but it would be useful to be able to move them around.
There's a desert version of safe haven, called Endless sands, that taps for mana. I run both in my zirilan of the claw deck, they're good at getting around his exile at end of turn downside. They also work as instant blinks for anything that has a coin counter on it in Athreos the shroud-veiled you don't even need to sacrifice them the creatures just come straight back without a counter! XD
Man, i'm so happy that i found your channel! I love to build decks just for the fun of it. And you give me such good ideas! I dont have a playgroup so i build them in my deck app and now im feeling excited to build some physical decks to play with myself. Much love and keep going, bro!
I really like endless sands. Get extra etb as well as protection for creatures. Still taps for mana and is a desert if you are running something like scavenger grounds.
I love when my glacial chasm sits there while my suspended eldrazi are getting closer and closer. Or when I drop glacial chasm with muldrotha. That usually ends the game.
I love strip mine and I put it in my 3 color kess deck a lot. Sometimes I just want to lock another player who is playing multicolor as well, then you take out that 2 color land they need. Good times.
Pretty nice to see many of the lands i love in a top list. One interaction i have used many times and that i would like to share is to remove the counter from blast zone with nesting grounds and blowing up zero mana artifacts and tokens. Many players don't see that one coming. As for the question: "how many colorles do i put on 4 or 5 colored decks?" I would say max 3. And there is gotta be a very strong interaction with the strategy overall to meet that 3 cap. In my ramos deck for example i included 2 colorless lands. Both give flash to all spells. (Don't recall the names of the top of my head) one has a simic activation and the other sacs itself. This is to maximize the usage of ramos mana producing ability during my opponents turns.
field of the deck is mainly used in a deck that like's to use a certain card, that let's you get rid of all of your lands, and swap them out for different ones from the deck tapped. I know there is a deck i saw, that had a token doubler, and then played that card, and it let them send their 10 lands to the grave, get 10 lands from the deck including field of the dead, and then get 20 2/2 black zombies on board.
Field of the dead is fantastic in 2-color decks even, especially green. You have snow covered and normal basics and at least two other lands plus field and already you are making ton of zombies. And now imagine vesuva on field and using fetch lands. 2/2 zombies are very good for earthcraft and gaeas Cradle and other creature count matters strategies.
If you plan on a proliferate strategy, Mage-Ring Network surges to ball-buster good. You put it down on a turm, next tapping it for 5+ and swinging the game.
was ice floe mentioned? ice floe: tap target creature you may choose not to untap ice floe, and as long as ice floe is tapped that creature remains tapped. this might be better than maze of ith because it can stop a creature with a tapping activated ability. but it could be also use along side maze of ith. there is a draw back though is that it can't target a creature that has flying. but has the extra perk of locking down creatures with tap abilities.
Great video! I enjoy using Scrying Sheets in my snow deck for a War Room like effect. I've also found the tutor effect from Inventor's Fair to help get my Aetherflux or something into my hand.
You probably won’t see this. But I’ve been binge watching your videos lately. For your next “commander cards you should be playing” video. Please include Ashes to Ashes if you believe it should see more play. I love this card. I really just want to hear you talk about it and ways to use it/decks to use it in. Thanks. It’s a great card because it allows you to exile 2 creatures for 3 mana, this also gets around indestructible.
Gaier reach sanitarium is an auto include for any deck running Notion Thief / Hullbreacher effects. One of my pods hates how much advantage I generate with that land lol.
I absolutely love field of the dead. I feel like I play half a dozen basic lands or less in mono color decks. I have no problems at all putting 30+ lands with different names in my commander decks, even the mono colored ones. My 2+ color decks almost never have any name repeats in my land slots.

I just replied down below, but will add this as a third recommendation for Tower of the Magistrate. Your first thought may be to give your blockers protection from an attacking artifact creature. Or vise versa. Very limited case, and not worthy of inclusion if that was all it did. I have introduced many people to the land that I call "Swords Fall Off". Also, activate it in response to Lightning Greaves on a creature they just summoned, and they don't get to attack or use a tap ability that turn. Whether it is their commander, or just a beat stick, keeping haste and shroud off it is very good. And my opponents always have the same surprised reaction. "I didn't know it did THAT!" Followed by, "Do you have any extra?" Buy a playset off ebay and see how useful they are. But, of course, your playgroup might not play with equipment cards.
you make a good case for it. but i think it's still way too specific. leaving it and another land open just so you can have that gotcha moment with an opponent is very niche i think. definitely is good against an equipment deck but only if that creature doesn't already have hexproof or shroud.
Regarding Nesting Grounds, only other card that does something similar is Slippery Bogbinder but only moves counters from your creatures to target creature.
I have a Borborgymos Enraged deck which needs the commander out so the deck can function. I loved the look of safe haven when you first mentioned it! After some careful thought though... Field of the Dead - personally i feel this is broken in Commander - I have his land nearly in all of my 3+ color commander decks - OMG - once you have the seventh land out - every land drop after + 1 zombie - that's one blocker, a creature to sac or great to get a creature to swing with :)
I run a Tatyova deck with an infinite stripmine loop and a few ways to get it online, though I NEVER use it unless I absolutely know I can end the game then and there. It's just not fun for anyone and politics are hard enough when you're drawing 1/3 your deck per turn anyways.
I prefer detection tower, because I have had one too many run-ins with my opponents making THEMSELVES hexproof in my decks that need to target my opponents lol
When you play field of the dead it's good to add one of each basic snow land for the extra card names.
Yeahhh! Griffin Canyon!

Isn't Command Beacon underplayed? Shouldn't it go into every deck where the commander is 5< and essential for the deck?
i honestly don't see command beacon that much. very surprising.
Temple of the false gods is probably my most hated land.
Tyrite sanctum is beast in my muldrotha deck
"In a golos deck this is an auto-include"
Wizards: :)
How about Mikokoro?
