- The 2025 Volvo EX30 will be Volvo’s smallest, most affordable vehicle when it goes on sale next year. While it may be small, the EX30 is absolutely packed with value, and its low price is hard to ignore. In this video, Edmunds’ Alistair Weaver gets behind the wheel of the EX30 to find out just how compelling Volvo’s latest SUV really is.

Do you think the price is right, or is the EX30 just too small for your needs? Let us know in the comments.
Price is still TOO HIGH>
Price seems okay. But it’s way too small. This car is basically for 2 persons
How small is it? Is it the size of a KIA Soul or smaller? @@feverpitchxx
Price is right. People who are saying it is too high are not considering that Volvo needs to try not to lose money on the car and make a reasonable profit. for the performance it has, the car is reasonably priced (in most markets, not Canada) if you lay off the more expensive options. The car is small but it depends on one's needs. It's too small for anyone who needs to use the back seats often.
i think it is priced okay considering what else is out there and what it brings to the table. It is in the same size range as the Kia Soul which for us fits the bill since we own a 2020 GT Line. However, I don't have an issue with regular backseat use on the Volvo or any car, sitting in the backseat and trying to reach the steering wheel or pedals tends to be a bit difficult. lol @@benjaminsmith2287
That is an outstanding package. $500 to reserve on the Volvo site seems fair. Great city car.
Love this car. It will be a great seller I'm sure, its a strong effort and good value proposition. Looks nice too!
I've been driving a Citroën C4 Picasso for the past decade and some... Its display is in the middle of the dash, like the EX30. Absolutely NO problem.
I think you missed the fact that the dual motor is not just acceleration, but 4wheel traction wich gives excellent grip and is very usefull for winter time
i absolutely love this little thing, im actually considering one!
We owned a 2020 Chevrolet Bolt and it seems like the space is pretty similar. We used the Bolt as a commuter car not our primary family hauler and it was perfect for that. I'm really excited about the EX30 and may look to trade in our Mustang Mach E in 12 months.
I think this is the car I’ve been waiting for
I'm just glad you said putting the speedometer on the screen to the right because it's safer.... total crap lol
I am a student driver and I’ve only driven Tesla’s but I have had no problem with the speedometer on the screen
Looks, Price and Performance on POINT. Also finally another car with the same minimalist interior as Tesla Model 3 and Y. Take my money Volvo!
You mean China?
Let's not forget that Tesla models and a comparably sized Chevy Bolt EUV qualify for the various incentives, and Volvo does not. A loaded FWD Bolt EUV Premier that's also cheaper and well equipped with leather heated/cooled seats is only $33K, qualifies for $7500 federal tax credit and also qualifies for additional rebates in some states, up to $4K. That's quite unbeatable. It also appears to be having a much better leg room in the back.
Not for the Model 3 in 2024!
@@thedualtransition6070 oh, is that a fact? Where did you see it?
Volvo EX30 awd or the Polestar 2 awd performance? Which would you go for?
Wait for the NACS plug. Bolt EUV - 170L - 70W - 64H / EX-30 - 166.7L - 72.3W - 61.2H
I drive a Chevy Bolt which I really like, and the ex30 is one of the few I'd consider trading the Bolt for.
I don't like the lack of traditional gauges and switches in the ex30, but I'd have to try it.
Agree. I also have a Bolt EUV, except the sometimes bouncy stick-axle rear suspension and the lack of over-take power at highway speed, it’s perfect car for me. Looks like this Volvo will solve both of those problems for me.
Great job Volvo! I drive a Model 3, that I love, and this is the only other ev I would consider.
Have reserved one. What more can I say
I am so excited about this! However due to the unpredictable distracted and arrogant drivers here in LA, for me a vehicle that has a bigger footprint is what I need!
Man, he has a large Mole on his neck, reminds me of that scene in Austin Powers, lol.
I drive a Volvo xc40 recharge and charge at Teslas chargers as they are the cheapest option her in Scandinavia. Also the Volvo has same set up as Tesla on charging port location so you don't take up more space then a Tesla. Strange there is no uniform set upnon ev cars for where the charge port is located.
That square steering wheel is giving me Austin Allegro vibes. Remember that post-modern, space-age design classic? Hmmm, probably best not to.
❤❤❤
Did I hear you say that the dual-motor setup is out of character with the car, and then down the line, say the car isn't sporty?
How do you start it?
You don't. You sit in it and it is on.
Can u start it/warm it up before you enter?
@@gennasmithers I'm really not sure. I think you can warm it or cool it before entering but not sure or about preconditioning the battery.
Sometimes less is more, but size-wise, I think I'd be happier with an EV version of the XC40. But nevertheless, they will sell a ton of the EX30.
This has a HUD system
In South Africa Mini SE it’s actually more expensive than the EX 30 single motor and Volvo EX30 even if it can be small but it’s actually an answer for us here in South Africa in terms of pricing as compared to Mini Cooper SE which is smaller and more expensive…
So to answer your questions it’s actually cheaper and better than SE even when it comes to range Volvo is much better
Why is this one compared to the Model 3 and not the Y?!
It's much, much smaller than the Model Y. It's not comparable to either one IMO. It's a tall hatchback being called an SUV.
☀👍🌟👍☀
Actual driving efficiency during your time with it? I've seen 2.7miles per kwh on carwow for mixed driving in awd perf trim. 3.8-4.1 in slower city driving for the rwd trim. Others have said 3.2miles per kwh in mixed driving for awd and 3.5miles per kwh for the rwd trims. 🤔
And in typical Edmunds tesla bashing fashion. You left out the tax credits the model 3&Y qualify for&Volvo doesn't. 😏
It's a bit small for my wants but there's a lot to like about this car.
XC40 recharge is larger so there's that if you're interested in a little more space
@@joelbolton7252 good point. If I were shopping now I'd have it on my list. I actually test drove a Polestar 2 back when I was shopping.
It looks really nice, even if the rear end looks a bit like a Cadillac. But it's not easy for everyone to shift to EVs, if this had a hybrid or PHEV option this would become Volvo's best seller for sure.
It’s not even 2024 yet. WTF? Does this thing qualify for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit? If not, it’s more expensive than a Tesla Model 3.
Volvo has strayed way too far from their focus on safety with this design. Everything cluttered into on screen in the center makes for a VERY distracting user experience. Eyes off the road entirely from looking over and down is far worse than slightly out of focus from a glance straight down
Not that much different than what they have with the current car. They've just removed a few buttons but those were screen-centric as well.
Good for 2 people, back seat looks cramped
My main grudge is that distracting and dangerous touch screen instead of normal physical knobs and buttons.
$53,000 Canadian. Not a chance.
And that’s just the base model! You’re looking at up to $73,000 with tax for the higher end model!
@@genericreference6969 Certainly redefines what "affordable" means.
Especially for a subcompact hatchback based on a hand-me-down design from other cars by the same manufacturer. This car needs to be at least $10,000 cheaper. As it stands, even the Tesla Model 3 is a better value here!
Ummmm.... Are you really asking Americans, with their ridiculously gargantuan pickups, how much they "need"?
I’m an American, and I love small cars. In the EV segment particularly the demand, at least here in California, is for affordable vehicles with practicality, and as a commuter car it doesn’t need to be huge.
I live in a city and my parking situation means I can’t have a car any longer than 170 inches. My choices are basically this or a gti/R. Having driven a gti for 12 years I’m ready for a change and to go electric. This will be my next car.
I also live in America and love small cars.
Americans don't "need" their big pickups / SUVs. Since birth, they've been bombarded with "bigger is better" so they don't really think about "need" - they want bigger.
I’m American and I agree why do we need 5 mpg trucks I call them trucker fuckers I drive a Mazda 3 for now
No space no range just like a city car, it just costs 3 times more. Elon is laughing his ass off...
It’s not an SUV. Its a slightly puffed subcompact hatchback. And that alone means its not as honest a proposition as Volvo would want you to believe. Plus the pricing in Canada is atrocious. Hard pass.
They have to call it an SUV due to marketing. A lot of what are called SUVs aren't SUVs in the current market.
$36k? Wow, for $40k you can get a Honda Ridgeline. Which has a range of 375 miles. And you know, a gastank, so there is zero range anxiety. And you can put a sheet of plywood in the back. And the interior space is way bigger for all 4 seats... etc etc etc..
unfortunately when i do my 600mi + road trip i would still have range anxiety with the Ridgeline.
@@wBONw So on your 600+ mile route, there is not a single gas station? RIght....
Will you embrace the EVs that will be available in the next few years with a 700+ mile range?
@@tomheim9516 I own an electric motorcycle. I'm not "anti-ev"... But the current crop of evs don't have the range, and cost significantly more than their gas counterparts. Not to mention the horrible charging infrastructure.
@@bikebudha01Fair enough. Agreed on both points. I am very much looking forward to the coming years, as I believe range will increase significantly and (relative) cost should decline.
Made in China?
Yes--a Geely product=Polestar
First time that I have watched this channel but I will not bother again. Poor review. Not enough emphasis on the awful cost cutting
Too small, not for US market.
Correct this sized segment overall does about 300-400k total unit's out of a 13-16,000,000 unit market place.
In China, the EU and UK plus other Asian countries with small framed shorter people it'll sell very well imo for a little while anyways.
A lot more compact segment 20-30k ev compeitiors supposedly coming in the next 2-4 year's now. This is actually slightly smaller than a bolt euv overall fyi. 👍🏻😎
Do not waste your money.. buy a American car!
Like a Tesla? No thanks
lol the irony of “buy a American car”😂
I wish EV makers would think about the insurance cost implications before giving their cars ridiculous acceleration that the car is clearly not designed to handle.
Yes, not designed, just as Ford and GM demonstrate with their overpowered muscle cars.
Agree. Cars that have way too much power for their suspensions and brakes aren't limited to EVs.
they have a single motor option
Clearly not designed to handle how?
insurance? acceleration? -- that whole post makes no sense
