I have on occasion drilled a hole in the plastic bit that contains the switch and then squirted cleaner in. Sometimes that's easier than taking the whole pot apart which can mean the end of the pot.
Nice one (: I no bog all about radios but have tonnes of vintage sets i picked up from E Bay and the amount of radios even i can get working with switch cleaner has been amazing (:
Dodgy switches. Nice demo of logical fault finding 101. No need to change components until the basics are done. Makes a change from watching the cap change merchants who replace bits withough doing basic checks.
Smashing :-D That didn't take long, not even a chance of the mug of tea to go cold :-D In the distant past, i have taken switches apart, they all seem to have a black muck that coats everything inside. Record/play slider switches are always black as a black thing. Odd as it always happens. Ok ill shut my pie hole :o)
I had a French set a while back with this fault. Strange beastie with a switch that was not available. Sonolor brand..... Spent an hour working it back and forth but it came back in the end.... I would never have got one!
The analogue signal will be around for some time to come yet, whether it's 2032 or later. There has been talk for years of shutting it down, and each of those times it never happened. MW is thin on the ground, and the LW R4 signal, due to be closed on 24 March this year has been given a stay of execution again until 2025... Often for my older radios, 1940's and up in my collection, I use a MW transmitter to play whatever I want to listen to...
The BBC are preparing to go online only over the next decade. How does the MW transmitter work ? Would it for example convert the digital signal from a Wifi hub (or 5G mast) back into analogue ? I'm a little confused here tbh ! @@Codeeze
Just refurbished one myself. Changed the AF117's for modern silicon trannies. Woks well and sold on ebay. Like your video's.
What a stunning chassis. Nice size speaker too. Very interesting video. Thank you.
Very beautiful Robert radio.
Very cool your video and yours explanations.

Paul, how do you remove the chassis on these mate?
Nice...
Another very enjoyable video and a nice simple repair. Could you please tell me what is a modern replacement for the AF-117.
Check radiomuseum and it has the answers. Can't link here

I love analogue radios don't get me wrong but what are we going to do with them after 2032 when analogue signals will no longer be broadcast ?
