I live near the city too - where did you find a DISCOUNT TABLE, and why did you change your growing in water.... I am trying for the first time barefoot living in a vase and watering only twice weekly, dry out and then soak.... thanks in Mission - Georgia
Hi James 🙂 I am in Vancouver, Canada. Discount Tables!! The only place to find those are at the grocery store when they are trying to get them out the door before they die! I still grow in water, I just changed from full water culture to semi. I did this for a couple reasons. When I was recovering a couple Phalaenopsis that had lost their roots, I noticed how one who was in semi water culture grew hers alot faster than the other two who still had a couple roots that stayed in water did. I then experimented with a couple others and observed that their new roots were growing out larger than the other roots that had been growing in water fulltime and were retaining their size. I coupled this with how these orchids grow in their natural habitat and my past viewing of other bare root Phalaenopsis growers and decided to change to the 2 days wet/5 days dry semi water culture cycles. I have observed that this method is producing strong and healthy roots, resulting in vigorously growing plants. Thanks for watching 💕
You want to ensure you have a good balance of air and water so start off with low levels and see how they do. If the roots look 'soggy', cut it back... they should be vibrant green and firm.
That $10 Phal 😍 great find!
Right?! Crazy!

Welcome to you Elyce 😁
How will I know what they like as far as the water level being high or low? I don’t get it.
