    I just installed a few of these for the first time. They are great! I recently swapped out all of my misters for 18RNH (180 degree rotator) which are the older, arc-non-adjustable style. They were an upgrade of the mist style, but they didn't cover a full 180 degrees, they would leave dry spots at the start of the arc as the stream would get ramped up. This new style solves all problems since the arc is completely adjustable, and also the stream seems to start a lot stronger in the first few degrees of the arc than the old ones did anyway. I just wish I had seen these before I bought so many of the 18RNH !

    One of the best features, IMHO, is the fact that they go faster than the MP Rotator. They really put on a show! Helpful when you're a contractor showing off your system after an install. I've done plenty of jobs too where I could substitute a stream rotor where I used to use a mini-gear drive, so that was very helpful as stream rotors are more dependable usually than mini-gear drives.

    I'm replacing a bunch of hunter sprinkler heads with these because the Hunter heads are only watering near the sprinkler head and at the far distance. After having the lawn at my new house die out in large areas I did a water uniformity test and the area in between the head and the far reach of the sprinklers is practically dry. I used Rainbird at the old house and they had no such problems.

    I always used 1804prs with Hunter MPR nozzles I liked them for shrubs. The only issue I have is that my customers often don’t understand that slower is better, and they replace the MPR with standard nozzles. I also find that the MPR 800 really plug up easy. I will try Rainbirds R Van nozzles next year and see the results. Both Rainbird and Hunter sprinklers are a good product and I think it’s just personal preference

    I was coming here to see the difference and comparisons, but ooh boy! The arguments of how the R-Van is better than the MP Rotator are not arguments once you listen to Hunter and Nelson's explanations on the design of the MP Rotator.
    1. The MP Rotator was invented by Nelson, an agriculture irrigation company. Not a lawn irrigation company. Hunter bought the patent from Nelson. However, the design was not changed much except for the MP800SR to allow shorter radius.
    2. Nelson designed the MP Rotator to match precipitation rate of soil. That is why the MP Rotator requires max pressure to be 40psi so that the rotation is slower. Not faster.
    3. Hunter created the 30psi regulated body shown in this ad, and the MP Rotator specific 40psi body which allows the MP Rotator to not over spray even at 25mph wind speeds. Funny how that was left out.
    4. I will give the esse of adjustment to rainbird with a caveat. Plastic parts wear out, and every plastic adjustable Rainbird head I have tried has needed tools to adjust after a bit because calcium forms inside the crevices of the head. It is true the MPtool is a pain and does get lost, but usually a small flathead can work.
    Overall both systems work, but for matched precipitation I would choose the MP Rotator. If time constraints and changing out bodies to regulated bodies is an issue, choose R-Van.

      Step one on any installation is to check your water supply. Talk to your dealer, or find the PDF design guide & prepare for some studying.
      My local dealer lends out a rig that measures static pressure & pressure through a known orifice to characterize the water source.
      That said, these take anywhere from ~0.15gpm to nearly 4gpm depending on throw, arc, and pressure. Four 8' 90° heads will probably be fine, but four 24' 360° heads probably won't.

    very incorrect with a quote that rain bird mentioned. (in my opinion)
    1.
    rain bird said '' R-vans nozzles are engineered to allow dirt and debris to pass right through.
    NO!
    hunters mp rotators have an auto flush feature, so when it turns on and off it flushes right out without worrying about it. I have a mp rotator system thats been installed for around 30 years and the heads still work just fine
    2.
    one thing i'll say about the '' hand adjust feature '' is if its installed in the public it's likely that somebody will mess with the adjustments.

    I think attacking the competition like this is not professional... also many arguments made here against mp rotators are simply wrong. For example, yes mp rotators have more heads on the market but range between 2.5 and 10.7 meters, much more than r-vans. Also the claim this new head irrigates faster than mp-rotator also implies that it is less efficient since precipitation is higher. And so on...

    Luckily the merchant I bought them from sent me some replacements after recording a video.
    I'll soon replace all my mp rotator with the rvan.

      hmm, don't understand why your water bill went up. what creates the difference when watering a shorter time with a stronger stream vs longer run with thinner stream?
      would even assume that the 'longer with weaker stream' probably has the advantage, as soil can better accept the water and so reduces/eliminates surface water runaway.

      @@jzizzles7799 I don't have MP Rotators but their point is that they deliver water slower so there is less runoff and you are supposed to end up using less water because more is absorbed. The faster you put water down, the more runoff, the less water gets absorbed by your lawn. So faster isn't better but the MP's aren't working for you. Our water company gives us a rebate if we convert to MP Rotators. Don't know if they will with the Rainbird versions.

    • @jzizzles7799
      @jzizzles7799 4 года назад

      @@lolajoker Yes in theory, but in reality, since it puts down water slower, you have to run it longer. Which means it's using more water.
      The rainbird puts out more water and the run time is shorter. Meaning more coverage and more water getting to the grass in shorter period of time.
      Just compare the output and you'll see the raidbird offers better coverage.
      the MP rotator is like watering your lawn with a toy water pistol.
      The raibird is like watering your lawn with a sprinkler.

    • @BadAssDude69
      @BadAssDude69 Год назад +1

      @@jzizzles7799 You're completely not understanding how this works. Miles driven is like gallons of water used. If you're going to drive 200 miles, an MP Rotator is like driving 50 MPH while regular spray heads are like driving 200 MPH. It takes 4 hours for the MP Rotator to drive 200 miles while the regular spray head takes 1 hour. The MP Rotator vehicle benefits are safer driving and better fuel mileage. The spray head vehicle benefits are that it saves time. The MP Rotator vehicle doesn't drive more miles just because it's driving longer to reach 200 miles. You probably just don't have a good install.
      Since you need less pressure/gallons per minute for an MP Rotator, you may have the ability to run multiple zones at the same time which may fully make up for the overall time spent watering if that it is a real concern.
