After reviewing quite a few videos for replacing my sprinkler head, your video is (by FAR!!) the BEST! Thanks🇺🇸
Thank you for all the tips you've given. I prefer diy rather than contract someone and have used many of your videos to fix and install my sprinkler system in our newly purchased house. Thanks again
Thanks to your videos I can install with confidence a Rainbird 32SA Rotar and Orbit metal base capped spray head. Our sprinklers have sprayed to far and have rotted away parts of the house.
Finally. A video that explains my misalignment problem with my 180 degree spray heads, and how to fix them!
Thank you thank you thank you!!
Wow...thanks for the funny pipe tip...that will solve several coverage problem areas I have❕...tip...I use a small tarp or a large plastic bag works just as well, when I dig up heads, keeps the grass clean and easy cleanup!
Great video...Thanks! 😎
Very thorough, great presentation. Thanks prepared me in the invent of a problem, new owner.
Thank you , I plan to install a system myself ,so I'm gathering How To videos . Yard isn't that wide but wraps around the house quite a bit ...
Thanks again
Great vid man. Thanks for taking the time to demostrate the fix start to finish.
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I'm glad my videos have helped on your new house.
I HAVE THE SAME SPRINKLERS NEXT TO THE DRIVEWAY AND MAN MY R SIDE OF THE CAR WAS COVER WITH WATER SPOTS . AFTER WATCHING THIS VIDEO I WAS ABLE TO ADJUST THE VOLUME OF WATER . SO THANK YOU IScaper1
Thank you for posting this video. I have a few that I am going to replace this weekend.
Ty Terry
Thanks Ty and good luck.
Thanks for posting. I'll be tackling two of these later today or tomorrow.
Andy Cingolani
Thanks Andy and good luck.
Nice video! Very informative and thorough. I've got a Rainbird 1800 that is not getting above the grass line anymore so I need to re-adjust. This was very helpful, as I'm a new homeowner and have never messed with my sprinklers before. Thanks!

@@Iscaper sprinkler systems are my favorite
$5 fix and 5 minute fix too - much appreciated
Thanks for the feedback.
Awesome video, really informative and very well explained 👏👏👏 thanks a lot! 😉😉👍👍
Great job. Thanks for doing this.
Thank you good info but would have do a leak test before covering up but this was helpful thanks again
Probably could have done a leak test, but I've done this type of repair hundreds of times and tend to skip certain steps.
this is exactly what I was looking for! great vid thanks!!
Ron King
Thanks Ron.
This video helped me solve my sprinkler problem. Thank you.
+MrGrummpy
Thanks, I'm glad the video was helpful.
they go bad many times over the years
Nice informative video thank you sir!

Thanks Rubber Duc.
Thank you for the good info. very helpful for us beginners.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your time very good video 👍
Us long kitchen knife to cut around sprinkler head and the cut piece will come much easier than shown here.
Excellent, I'm glad the video was helpful.
You have the best videos.
Very helpful. Thanks.
Great information 👍
Thanks for watching.
Cant thank you enough for this video!
Thanks.
I really appreciate this video.Oh and another suggestion I have as well is how to install a rainbird 1812 where there’s shallow piping.😎🤩
The 1812 has a side inlet, do you need more depth?
Yes please and I’d appreciate a video showing you installing one your way😎😎
@@heroknaderi Use 2 SBE-050 barb adapters. Thread one into the tee on the sprinkler pipe and push on one end of the funny pipe. Thread second barb adapter into sprinkler head side outlet with the barb pointing down. Loop funny pipe down into the hole you've dug for the 1812 sprinkler head. Level top of head with the ground, cut the funny pipe, and attach funny pipe to the barb on the adapter pointing down.
thank you sir. Very nicely done video.
Thanks Ritesh, I appreciate the feedback.
very helpful ,,,,thank you
I will be doing this job soon. the information here and on other sites like this is most helpful////will find out soon: Do I have 'funny pipe'? we shall see.
plumbing jobs have a way of growing out of all proportion, once you start digging in.
Thanks David. Funny pipe (SPX-FLEX) makes raising, lowering, or repositioning a sprinkler head very easy and quick.
good video. thanks. but you dont nerd to remove the head to set your left edge. you can just rotate the stem once complete.
Very good!!!! Smart...Thanks.....
Thank you Sir, very informative!
Thanks Luis for watching.
Carrie, I like sprinkler systems
👍
This is great info
Thanks!
Very helpful- coiling the hose was the key hint for me. Couldn’t for the of me figure out how to make the connections in hole.
Glad it helped
Thorough, just right for the 9-thumbed installer.
Very good video
Thanks!
Quick repair here, materials and labor around $30.
thank you
hi Kerry I hope u had a good holiday 1 question what kind of wire tracer do u use to find sprinkler wires and valve boxes
+john Kosheluk
Hi John. I had a wire locator similar to the one in this link: www.amazon.com/Greenlee-521A-Wire-Valve-Locator/dp/B002JB005S/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1451236767&sr=8-6&keywords=underground+wire+locator
They're a little pricey. You can also rent them, but the last time I did that the locator was $50 per hour.
Awesome 👌🏼
Thanks!
Nice vid...thanks.
Thanks for watching.
should the hose be lower so when you are ate the hose doesn't get caught up
Thanks
Thank you!
Thanks Jason for watching.
Kerry i watch a lot of your videos i think i have seen all your sprinkler videos i learn alot from them i just started a spr bis i have i questshion what would a job cost like the 1 i just washed
I made myself a tool that can be used to get the whole sprinkler out of the ground without digging. It usually takes me 20 seconds to replace one. The materials including the tool, the sprinkler (body), the head are about $7.50. I will make a video about how to replace a sprinkler with my tool.
You make this look so easy. Now lets pray I do not complicate the beejeevies out of it.
+L.A DiNiro
Good luck!
dont have to use funny tube
Quick sidenote you don’t need to tighten the funny fitting that tight there plumbing threads your not working on an old Chevy lol but good video for beginners also the 1804 ratchets so you don’t need to separate the body to line the spray pattern
VERY NICE
Thanks.
M412-005. 1/2 inch marlex and short piece of spx. I'v seen spx kink from doing what you did.
thanks
Aspersões Orbit 55025 PULSE XL Impact, How to replace the NOZZLE/, Como substituir um bico/nozzle?
Crazy how the grass looked luscious green in the before shot and looked brown and dried up in the finish shot
I like the funny pipe idea .if the morons that installed my sprinkler system had used those i could've raise or reposition everything instead of replacing.
Excellent video. Is the hose also a Rainbird product?
+Mesaman0825
Yes. Ask for swing pipe or funny pipe. Rainbird part number is SPX-FLEX.
Your funny pipe is going to be damaged if anyone decides to dig that head up in the future. I think the loop should have been buried way lower. or at least under/over the pvc pipes.
I could not follow exactly the type of tube. What is the name? This is a perfect vid. Much appreciated.
Rain Bird funny (swing) pipe. Here's a link: www.rainbird.com/products/spx-series-swing-pipe
I’m new to landscape sprinkler system ... do you have to buy the head tip or does it come with the head? I noticed you pull a orange cap and put on a tip .
You buy a nozzle to install on the sprinkler body.
Correction: that is a orbit sprinkler head at our house we have a similar sprinkler head like that
Hey kerry when i turn my system on i get a mass of land being rounded by water that is not escaping. what could be the problem the valve boxes are near could it be a submerged sprinkler head?
Could be. Dig down where the wet spot is to find the problem.
The sprinkler head was repositioned too close to the concrete (originally it was about 6" away. After replacement it was about 2" away from the concrete). You run the risk of damaging it with trimming tools etc.
Wow
i noticed you did NOT use teflon tape on threads..do you NOT recommend that? i am using it and getting leaking around the threads..
You don't need teflon tape with funny pipe adapters.
No leaking happens with the funny pipe connection points? Thank you :)
I've never had any trouble with Rain Bird funny pipe fittings or funny pipe. I have had trouble with funny pipe blowing off some aftermarket fittings I tried. Needless to say I only use Rain Bird fittings now.
I noticed I've seen you use pipe dope sometimes on the barbed fitting pipe threads, sometimes not. Is it optional?
As a general rule funny pipe and barb fittings don't need teflon tape or paste. For example: using a 1/2" funny pipe barb elbow on the bottom of a sprinkler head. PVC fittings do need teflon tape or paste. For example: connecting a 1" PVC male adapter to a sprinkler valve at the manifold.
@@Iscaper Thank you for that. Then wouldn't the connection between the funny pipe barb elbow threads and the PVC tee threads get the paste or tape?
Can we convert a non pop-up head with a pop up head w/o messing with the underground pipes?
All we have to do is replace the head right?
Depends on the depth of the pipe under the head. If the non pop-up head is on a riser and you have at least 3"-4" of depth from the top of the head to the inlet of the supply pipe then you could buy a pop-up head, add a close nipple in the bottom of the head, then thread the new pop-up head into the tee in the supply pipe. If you don't have the clearance you need then you could use funny/swing pipe and adapters to make a pop-up head work.
You never put impact or gear driven sprinkler head on a spray head line because spray heads are spraying the same amount of water constantly to the same area whereas impacts and rotors I'm moving so they do not get the same gallons per minute on the same area it takes twice as long for them to give the same amount of water as a spray head
Hard to appreciate what you are doing.
Honeypipe???
Great video.. can I replace an 1803 with an 1804?
Yes, remember the 1804 is an inch longer.
6:36 if you plan to mow any time soon (within the next few weeks) do not cut up the sod to smaller pieces as the mower will suck up small pieces out of the ground if there is not enough dirt to weigh them in as long roots = more dirt = more weight & over whelming resistance to deck blade vacuum lifting pressure. there's a reason why there are flat blades with no wings, blades with slight wings, and high lift wing mower blades.
If you are careful to remember where they are you could probably just avoid them with a mower and instead weed-wack those areas carefully at a slight height without whipping the actual ground. I use an electric weed wacker so it's easy to feather the trigger in bursts. I always do weed wacking every time I mow anyway so it would just be a matter of avoiding the sprinkler head areas with the mower.
does rainbird make a sprayhead to go to 270 degrees. My lawn was replaced and the sprinklers wont reach side to side. The
Yes, the 15VAN (Variable Arc Nozzle) will water from 0-360 degrees with a 15' radius.
thank you much.I actually went to home depot and found a 0-360 and it worked perfectly.Dont know why the lawn man didn't do that in the first place You are a great helpm Thank You. BTW what does VAN stand for

Variable Arc Nozzle
got it...Thank you
Hi kerry i have a q when u check 4 gpm or flow st a hose bib du u do the bucket test or something els i have a res that i am doing a install at i 4 got the bucket 2 test 4 gpm i have 70 psi at the hose bib and a 3/4 brass line out of the house i thare a nother way 2 do a gpm test or is the bucket test the way 2 go o have u ever used the rb1804 sam bodies
Hi John. When I try to figure out how many gallons per minute I have available I first find the smallest pipe or fitting that I will be dealing with. If it's 3/4" pipe then I know I probably have between 8-13 gpm to work with. If possible I want to keep the water velocity around 5 fps (feet per second). An easy way to do this is to use pressure loss tables.
If you go to my website on the downloads page, find the RainBird Irrigation 2012 catalog. Download the catalog. Go to page 233 and there is a pressure loss table for Schedule 40 steel pipe. Go to the 3/4" column and you'll see that to keep the velocity around 5 fps you can use 9 gallons per minute with 13.48 psi pressure loss. If you go up to 12 gpm (gallons per minute) the velocity would be 7.22 fps and the pressure loss would be 22.98 psi. Where your static pressure is 70 psi I would probably try not to use more than 9-10 gpm.
you should turn the sod upside down so grass is on grass.
I fix my sprinkler from you think you
Howard stern
Hi Kerry what does the 9 h mean on a rainbird nozel
john Kosheluk
Do you have a 9SST nozzle?
The "H" is for half.
Thanks, what to do if the sprinkler head doesn't fully pop out of the body?
It could be you have a faulty head or not enough line pressure to pop the head up. I would change the head first and if that doesn't work I would check that sprinkler zone for a line break or obstruction.
@@Iscaper Everything is brand new and should be working optimally. I'm using a 1hp monoblock water pump with Hunter 10A pro sprinklers.
@@AshwanikumarSainiARTER If you only have the one head on the zone that isn't working properly I would remove it from the tee and check for obstructions. You could also take the head apart and see if there is a problem there.
Correction WaterMaster
at about 7:30 of the video you change the overall direction of the head. When I do this, my sprinkler does not stay adjusted, and I have to turn it to face the proper direction multiple times over the course of the summer. Why would this happen?
Make sure the nozzle is tight on the threads on the shaft. You shouldn't have to do multiple adjustments once set.
Those poly risers are crap break way too easy. I like to use funny pipe with the two elbows spiral male and female just in case a lawn mower hits one .
In my company we use poly pipe instead of pvc pipe
No one cares idiot 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Orbit watermaster 100 series.
Why.u sprinkles are v
Don't think I'd ever trust the funny pipe stuff, I'll stick with hose clamps, elbows and 3/4" tubing
You should try it, but use Rain Bird funny and fittings. Every sprinkler contractor I know uses it. It's a big time saver.
I thought they were called rainbird 1800
1800 is the series. You can buy a 1804 (4" pop-up), 1806 (6" pop-up), or 1812 (12" pop-up).
iScaper1 oh ok and the 1802 is 2” pop up
@@harrisonragno284 Yes.
Thanks, but I do use the hunter pro spray with hunter MP rotators and hunter PGP rotors
And I only have two 1806 pop up with hunter MP rotators
I use 6 inch pop ups
And one more thing can you do a video of you replace a sprinkler nozzle with HE VAN nozzle
Your funny pipe is too close to the surface. The lawn can have a brown spot if plastic is just under the sruface.
Using funny pipe is jerry rigged... mine are attached directy into the pvc quicker and easier.
That is so incorrect
What a dirty job
thank you
