Improper seating is a guaranteed stage 2-4 decubitus ulcer, several months to heal & costly hospital stay, possibly flap surgery too.
Even boards with padding are bad. My husband thought using boards to add support to our sagging couch frame would work…even with plush couch seat cushions it was still miserable to sit on.
I've seen some dumb contraptions on RUclips, but this takes the cake... You know they have hydraulic wheel chairs that will lift the person out without compressing their spine and launching them across the room!
As a past healthcare worker: when an elder person is standing up they move slower because it's more difficult for them gain their balance and adjust. I see the person, that uses this, falling and getting injured and being incredibly uncomfortable. They have a spacific belt that you wrap around a person so you can assist them with a little bit of lifting that way they have time to adjust. The belt is cheap and easy to find. This scares me and just looks plain dangerous & uncomfortable. 🤷
My husband was paralyzed a half size of his body, we have to help him get out of the chair, because his left size does not feel a thing. If you use this to pop him out of the chair, he cannot hold himself up when he is facing the floor. What is going on with his idea. Grandpa has a big bank account and a life insurance with his grandson's name as the sole beneficiary? Just saying !

I'm thinking of my mother in a wheelchair. With the catapult, you've got a door ram as well. Have you ever approached a door you're going to have to open with grandpa in the chair? Doors usually open out, and many don't have an accessibility button. The chair is no longer transportable in a car because it can't be folded. The way the catapult sticks out it's a danger on its own. How is grandpa supposed to get into the chair, lift his leg over the catapult or back into the chair? Design definitely needs more work.
This may be nearly impossible for a person with poor mobility to sit down on. He needs physical and occupational therapy to help him learn proper techniques for sitting and standing because getting up from the wheelchair is only one of the situations he will be dealing with. He will need a good wheelchair cushion on top if they decide to cut the catapult off. I hope this is just a joke. You could name it the Catapult of Doom.

Why don't you put a hook on a wall at about head height, attach one end of a ratchet strap to it, attach the other end to a sling then put the sling over Grandpa's head. I made one of these for my grandpa. Not only does he have an easier time getting up, if i step really hard on it, he can get launched to to bathroom quicker. No more accidents! Thanks so much for this great invention.

As a wheelchair user I approve of the out of box thinking but not the outcome. It isn't the act of standing he struggles with it's that bones, joints, muscles stiffen and to begin to move a leg or arm takes time to allow those parts to loosen enough to move. It can be extremely painful too depending on what exactly their dealing with. Besides all that in addition you need enough energy to stand and withstand all of that. The slightest fatigue makes it feel almost impossible. Then you have to straighten to take a step and hope you don't lose your balance.
When I see this sort of thing, I can't help but wonder if the creators of the internet had known this is what it would be used for, would have just canned the project.
