- A lot has happened recently, so I felt like I should really get all of this off my chest. I didn't want to just stay quiet and not speak my mind yet again... So, I figured it'd be best to be open and honest about the situation. If even a single one of you was going through this as well, I'd want you to know that you're not alone. Hearing all this left me so heartbroken, I used to watch you guys when I was 9, now I’m 17 and you guys made a huge impact during my childhood. Hearing what happened to you and your sister is horrible and I hope your brothers will come to realize that what they’re doing is wrong

Hi Bethany- i am a father of two children who grew up watching Venturian Tale. I am not a gamer or RUclipsr so when my youngest son told me a bit about what happened, I had to find out for myself. After watching this video, I’m so proud of you for speaking out, for being vulnerable and for sharing your experience. Not to be disrespectful, but it really sounds like you were raised in a Cult in which you experienced religious abuse, sexual abuse and mental/emotional abuse. What happened was NOT YOUR FAULT and you are so brave for unplugging from such a toxic environment even though that what all you knew and that was your family. I have similar experiences of being involved in cults and can really relate to the grief and trauma you are experiencing . For non-religious reasons I also had to disconnect from my siblings because of the hurt and abuse they were inflicting on me. It was so hard and I really grieved, but it so necessary for my health and well-being to do so. Regarding religion/spirituality- I trust that you will find your own path that will empower you and set you free- even if that means becoming agnostic/atheist- whatever feels right for you. I have chosen to remain spiritual but it is not dependant in adhering to any strict beliefs or practices, and I’m allowing my children to find their own way. Thankyou again for your honest and vulnerable share, stay true to yourself find your own way.
i’m two months late but honestly, reading this made me tear up a little bit. it’s so refreshing to see a parent be accepting and understanding about something like this, i too grew up with venturiantale but i know if i took this situation to my mom or dad i would be shamed for agreeing with bethany in any way or just the idea of having the non religious belief itself. your kids are incredibly lucky to have you as a father, have a great day/night :)

I know I saw this and wanted to just ignore it and not be depressed but having watched the channel for years I had to watch, and now a skyscraper worth of bricks just got dumped on me.

Cywren Caster was one of the characters Jordan made that taught me that I can be a badass woman. So when I hear that those beliefs weren't being practiced irl, it breaks my heart. I hope you're doing well Bethany, and I wish for the best in all of your siblings' journeys in navigating adulthood and its weirdness!!
This blows my mind because almost all of the characters that were created in Venturiantale’s time broke all of these gender roles and sexist stereotypes. In all seriousness, I’m so sorry you went through all of this and I don’t see religion as justification for what you went through. There’s no excuse for this type of abuse.

You see this, this actually upsets me. But Im glad I got to see one of my favorite creators from Venturiantale even if theyre no longer associated with the channel speak up. I was always very supportive of you and Jordan specifically. Idk but this Im very proud of. Publicly speaking about how you feel is never and will never be easy whatsoever. Let me know if anything here is badly written or otherwise confusing.
Basically, Her family is very religious and Christian, and it's unfortunately one of the versions of Christianity that has very strong beliefs on topics like the roles of Women, LGBT+ rights, etc.
She was very sheltered growing up. She was always prevented from making any friends other than her siblings, she couldn't talk to neighbors, fellow church members, noone. She was also home schooled which further limited her outside interactions. She became extremely self conscious about her body and appearance, as she was constantly ridiculed about her weight and appearance if she didn't get everything just right, despite conflicting rules.
She quickly became afraid to speak her mind about anything, even if she completely disagreed with what was said, as she feared being outcast and abandoned if she did.
Recently, she noticed that her family had seemingly cut contact with her sister, and thought it had something to do with an argument or something like that. It turned out it was because her sister had spoken up about her beliefs, and was basically disowned for it. Hearing about this was obviously very scary for her as this was everything she'd feared for most of her life.
But she still couldn't quite believe that after everything that'd happened, her brothers would really be willing to just write her off like that over something so stupid. So one day she privately messaged them to ask: "If I decided that I didn't agree with what we were taught, would you guys really just leave me like that?" and they said "Yes, we would cut all contact." and now they have.
It's important to note here that she states several times how how much she loves her family in general, and especially her mother, who she repeatedly calls a Saint, and all but states that her mother does not agree with any of what's happened to her.

I blame the Father. I think Paula should have kept all the Siblings away from him. He sounds abusive. She should have divorced him, leave Ohio with the Siblings and raise them herself, even if she would be outcasted by everyone.

I grew up hearing those four happy voices on a day to day basis. Laughing, smiling, and staying up on school nights watching their content.
After growing older I at some point vanished from their channel not aware of any of this content.
Until one day I decided to come back and I saw everyone had gone their own way. And then I found this video....ill never see venturian the same as I once did again.
My support goes out to you 100%. Everyone no matter who you are, your race, your color, or even your religious preference deserve respect. And I applaude you for speaking out and I hope things get better for you.

Yeah, I came back to their channel after years, because I would always watch their fnaf videos but as I got out of that phase I stopped watching their videos. But I came back and saw how different things were, they got less views, and they had all gone their separate ways. Seeing this video made my childhood kind of.. shatter I guess. In general I get so upset when someone I used to look up to or love turns out to be… not that great of a person. It’s horrible.

I feel like your brothers basically are in fear of expressing how they truly feel so they think the only thing to do is to disown everyone that thinks differently. If this is the case then hopefully they will eventually realize that what they are doing is wrong and that they will eventually try to make amends with you and your sister. When a belief hurts other people, it is everyone's business. For this and all other things, just because something is (especially only technically) subjective does not make any opinion on it acceptable. See: Germany 1930s-1940s.
I am a Christian and I find this treatment abhorrent. Some of my closest friends are athiests or non-believers. I love them as family. This is not how Christ wants us to be. Shame on them.

@@FistoftheUmbralStar-1.0 religion is used as something that provides someone with hope. Something to keep them moving. In my opinion everyone has some form of religion. You don't have to believe in a god but you do need something to keep you going. Something to believe in.
@@taznixx1126 Christianity is not a religion, it's a personal relationship with God in which you discover how much you are loved (because of God's sacrifice) and discover how much love he gives you to share with others. You see, the world has twisted that definition and created a cookie-cutter system. It's no longer about God's love for every single human being, it's about doing what a flawed human being says or its over.
Religion can be a good tool for hope and unity yet treating it like it's the inflexible truth gives way to outdated behavior and unreasonable convictions. If you are thriving peacefully from your faith that's nice though. You seem to have a good heart. There should be more people like you as well as people who realize you don't need religion to be kind.

This was *so* heartbreaking. Bethany, thank you so much for coming forward with your story- don't feel pressured to jump back on a schedule too soon if you're not well enough. There are many things I wanna touch on- but the main bit I wanna mention is.. there are no trauma "milestones" you have to hit. Healing isn't linear. You don't have to be "recovered" by now just because you're 25, and you certainly don't have to automatically "feel better" now that you've come forward with this information. It's logical that you still feel like a kid at this point, because you never got the chance to develop in a healthy way in your teens and get the chance to really be an adult. I'm *so* proud of you for moving out and getting a job, because those small steps toward independence are going to help you moving forward, but.. Don't feel like you have to speed things along. You're still allowed to like "childish" things, and you can still love your favorite interests no matter how old you are. It can be liberating in deciding what to keep from your past and what to leave behind.
And, unrelated, but I still feel like it's important for you to hear: While Venturiantale might've been influenced by these ideologies and mindsets that you all grew up with, I want you to know that the communities built around your content still managed to foster people who were different. Despite everything, I grew up a *huge* fan of the content, and I met some of my closest friends through the fandom. It was a space where I explored LGBT themes even despite bullying in the online groups, and I learned to come to terms with my own identity partially because of the fanbase for VT. I just want you to know that there was some glimmer of good among the bad, and even though you werent able to stand up for yourself when you were younger, you still managed to help create a welcoming space for others to stand up and come into themselves. And I'll always thank you for that. I wish you the best, Bethany, and just remember, there will always be people in your corner from here on out.

I don’t know how to describe with words what this video means to me. You all were my childhood, and made me laugh when I was feeling down. Hearing all of this breaks my heart, but in a melancholic way also gives me hope. I don’t know how to describe how strong, beautiful, and inspiring you are. Now, and in every aspect of your being. I know you’re going through so much right now, and that making this video was incredibly hard, but the message is so powerful and selfless and incredible. You’re so incredible, and the fact that you’re 25 and just now starting to figure this out doesn’t change a single thing about it. Your fears and struggles were and are valid, and none of it is your fault. You were gaslit and persuaded to feel that fear because of the way you were raised and influenced, and the fact that you’re coming out at all, no matter how late you may feel it is, is so important. I’m seventeen, and have been watching you all since I was around eleven or twelve. I grew up in a small town where those sexist, homophobic, racist influences ran rampant. I was told over and over that my parents would burn in hell because they were atheist immigrants who were trying to turn my sister and i away from god. It was terrifying, and I had so much shame towards myself and my body and my sexuality. Who I was as a person. It influenced the path of my life even if it wasn’t completely centered exclusively around faith anymore. I was subconsciously influenced to feel like I had to fit a specific mould that society wanted to fill people into. My body image has always been something I’ve struggled with, and losing people is one of my greatest fears. I’ve always been so afraid of bearing myself to other people emotionally and physically out of fear of being judged or abandoned, and getting “too close” to people still scares me. Earlier this year, it all finally came to a head and I was formally diagnosed with depression. I hated myself and I hated living and didn’t want to be here anymore. But thankfully, I’d found people in my corner, too, who gave me a reason to wake up every morning. Who helped me find that strength within myself to keep going. It was so scary, but I’ve grown so much in a short period of time by taking those steps out of the mould I was told by society to fill. About a month ago, I came out as non-binary. It was the happiest I’d ever felt about myself in my life. I was so scared of telling other people in fear that they’d reject me or wouldn’t take me seriously for the way I felt. I even had doubts about my own identity being correct because of this. But I gathered the courage to take that leap and I feel like the truest version of myself that I’ve ever been. I love my body, from every stretch mark to unshaven hair on my legs. To my pear shape and the scars across it. I cut my hair, I started wearing what I wanted, and I started being happier. You taking this step and coming forward and saying you want to start being happy and living your own life? Holy shit- it digs right into my core and I can feel the power emanating from you. You’re so strong and inspire so many just like me, and your experience and story has spoken to so many like myself who have indeed felt or feel the things you’re talking about. And it’s incredible, and I can’t thank you enough. Hang in there, you’re so loved and special and we will all be there every single step of your journey to self-love and acceptance. We support you and respect you until the end

I'm right there with you! My story is very similar, and it feels nice to be around the same time in my self discovery journey as you. Like you, I recently cut my hair and started wearing more of what I wanted. And I've felt more myself than ever. I found this because I wanted to check back in on venturiantale due to really just growing up with you guys as a kid who was also very Christian and homeschooled. The only sad thing about being unsheltered is you learn things you didn’t want to faster. Speaking out is one of the hardest things to do but thank you for doing it. You gave me a newfound hope that one day I can do the same.

In that upbringing a lot of the pain and guilt was out on you rather than the parents and it’s so heartbreaking to see how that effected your mindset. I’m just so glad you got out of that toxic situation. It will take time but i know you can pull through and find yourself and what you want to be and do!

Honestly I relate to that a lot. Just had a conversation with a friend about how at 21 (almost 22) I feel like I don't know anything due to my upbringing. Feels like I'll never get as far as others because I don't have the same basic groundwork to leap from. How she was raised is basically word-for-word how I was raised. It's kinda surprising to see it match up so perfectly.
Those parents tend to die alone in a nursing home . . . .. . they act surprise that their kids doesn't vist them .
I always think about VenturianTale from time to time. Huddled around the PC with my friends, binge watching their vids so many years ago.. for me, it was an escape from reality. I had a rough upbringing, and I was truly envious of how happy everyone seemed. I can't believe there were so many horrors behind the curtain.. I really hope you get a chance to be yourself and find your own success.

As someone who has followed Venturian Tale since the beginning, this video absolutely breaks my heart. I am so sorry that you and your siblings had to go through that kind of abuse abuse growing up. I am completely shocked by how Issac and Jordan acted towards you, I never thought they would think that kind of way, it disappoints me. As a Christian, I find it completely unacceptable how your family thinks, and how they treated you growing up. I find it genuinely disgusting, no human being should be treated that way. I hope you and your family can work this out in the end, and I hope you can find what kind of person YOU want to be and not what anyone else wants you to be.

This video hit extremely close. I grew up in the same household situation; Homeschooled, and being isolated from the world.
I was never allowed to have friends because they would "hurt me" I was made to think that the natural things happening to me were disgusting, and I was dirty.
I was showed videos of people being k!lled brutally, so I could see the "truth" of the outside world. I was only every taught things about the Bibles, I had to teach myself proper English, math, etc. And I still suffer from lack of education.
I was told that being gay, or trans was bad, and when I started to like boys, and girls, and feel uncomfortable in my body I punished myself.
I felt as if I needed to harm my body for god to forgive me for my sins. I got so depressed, I couldn't say anything to them because it wasn't their opinion.
I'm 18 now, and I'm struggling with self harm, body image, speaking up for myself, paranoia, anxiety, depression, and a whole lot more.
I'm still living with them because I can't work due to paranoia, but I believe I'll leave one day, and save my little sister from this.
Me, and a friend of four years plan on living together one day, and I can say I still have hope.

Venturiantale was the very first yt channel i subbed to. I watched you guys for hours on end for years. I was never really sheltered myself but i had many friends who were, people who had to cut me off, or people who weren't ready for the world by the time they grew up. It is a real issue. It's because parts of Christianity, such as the Bible, have been revised by people to include hatred of topics that some don't understand, such as sexism, racism, homophobia, rape and murder. This stuff wasn't within the original prints, they were added in over the years as a way to control and confuse people. I'm an agnostic atheist, but if god did exist, he wouldn't care whether someone loved another that shared their gender, but be glad that they found love to begin with. But...revisions of the bible have made it so you can't tell what would fall within what this god would actually think or if it's just stuff humans with hatred in their hearts put in later editions of the book.

Venturian Tale was comforting to thousands of people. They never spoke in their political or religious standards, they weren't controversial, they were a breath of fresh air from the internet. Me and my younger brother watched you all for years. We loved your dupes videos, cops and robbers, fan mail videos, hide and seek, it made us stop fighting. I built my childhood with you guys as a stepping stone to become a person I was afraid to be.
I was raised in a sheltered home as well. Low income, constant church visits, very little access to the internet, sexism, homophobia and trans phobia and racism, pedophelia, it shaped me for years. Then I started watching RUclips videos like your guy's and realized that it doesn't have to be religious to be good. Being religious doesn't make you a good person.
You're very strong. I'm sure that you've heard it a million times but I'd rather say strong than beautiful. You're an amazing person, all of your siblings are as well. My life almost perfectly mirrors yours, at least in what you described of home life. I'm glad to see all of us coming out about our experiences thanks to Bethany's video. I still hold onto my religious views, but they're definitely not the same as my family's, and I hope to be away from it all eventually and maybe heal. VenturionTale was also a bright spot for me, and I'm sad that in reality they were suffering the same as me.

Well, damn. Growing up, me and my sister loved your VenturianTale videos. What made it even better was the lack of swear words, which made it comfortable for us to watch. I knew you were a group of Christian siblings, but never have I figured the situation was this bad. You are such a brave, strong woman to open your eyes to what is actually happening, get out, and have the chance to be yourself as you heal from all of those wrong beliefs. Too many cases are out there where self-proclaimed Christians go out of their way to put down people of different skin colors, sexualities, religions, and even genders, despite the fact that God asks us to love everyone, including our enemies. My son got us into VenturianTales when he was 5, we've been watching for a decade. As much as it saddened him, I'm glad he got to see someone stand up for themselves in that situation (he had me unsub last night after watching this video). From my own experience decades ago, growing up in a similar family was like being caught in a bear trap. Once I knew I couldn't stay snared and suffering any longer, I had to chew that part of myself off and limp away. Like yourself, I was lucky that one of my siblings did the same; we were able to help each other heal and she is my closest friend to this day. You've been through what had to be the hardest decision in my own life, and I think you and Cierra are doing a great job. Stay strong.

Perhaps read all of Leviticus, and see the laws in which a slave owner was to care for their slaves, as well as what they were allowed and not allowed to do. And vice verse. I want to cry. You guys were such a big part of my childhood. I return and everything's just... painful. I found that channel way back in the day, I had to have been like 8 or 9 , and it was such an important thing to me. I eventually drifted from that content, but I'd always return and see what had happened since I'd left. I want to say I wish I'd never checked again, rose colored glasses and all that. But if I never came back, I wouldn't know what I do now. And though it hurts, I'm glad to know that you and your sister are out of that situation. I just want things to be the way they once seemed again. I really hate it so much.

I started watching Venturiantale from the start with your sister in the Minecraft series. At that time I was dealing with a HORRIBLE severe case of abuse from a parent. I used to try and stay away from them by watching your guys videos. I woke up and fell asleep on that keyboard. You kept me fighting and distracted from my (awful at the time) life. I lived with my aunt for a while as a teen, and she was VERY religious. She held a lot of the same beliefs said in the video, telling me I had to stop seeing all of my friends because none of them were Christians, tricking my best friend and I into going to an out of town church by telling us it was a women's self-defense class, and punishing me if I ever disagreed at all with her/her husband. Then she kicked me out after being there for 5 months; solely because I wasn't religious enough and I was "bad for her health"... I didn't do anything wrong, I did my best and was a good kid, I was even a Christian before/during the time I lived with her. But I just could never be good enough in her eyes...
It's a bit of a relief to see that others have gone through similar situations, but it hurts my heart at the same time...
My girlfriend is from a pretty strict Christian household, and even knowing what it took for her to open up about the stuff she went through, and how difficult its been to get her out of that situation with disownment on the table, I can only imagine how much you've gone through to get to the point of posting this video. I used to be Christian but not anymore just because I've only seen the hate. I'm exploring my sexuality for the first time and all it is is just hate and saying how I've signed and stuff and I don't want to be associated with that anymore. I've never seen many Christians who are accepting of LGBTQ stuff unfortunately

It's saddening that all wasn't well all along, but it's good that you've escaped a bad situation. I'm so sorry that some people in the comments are complaining about 'the portrayal of Christianity' or bringing up worse situations to minimize your experiences. I've had people look at my own trauma and proceed to point to another person who is suffering, saying I should be grateful I'm not in a worse situation. I hope you know that you do not need to justify or compare your trauma to anyone else. It doesn't matter that it 'couldve been worse', because that's not the problem. The problem is that is SHOULD'VE been BETTER. You never should have had to deal with this. It's not silly, none of this is silly or unimportant. You deserved so much better and I hope you are in the best place possible.

I'm in the same boat. I watch them all the time when I was younger, they made me smile and made me laugh they were my heros, now this just makes my ideas of them flip on my head.

I dunno how I didn’t manage to see this until now, but I was OBSESSED with VenturianTale when I was little. Ironically enough, I also grew up in a Catholic, conservative household- VenturianTale was my escape. Hurts to see things didn’t work out, but I’m so grateful to see that my two favorites out of the group have such strong spirits!!
A part of me finds this hard to believe even a year later, to think a lot of my memories watching you guys ever since I found the VenturianTale channel having all these videos engraved into my mind, I'm sorry this happened.
Bethany, I also have an extremely “religious” family. They will never truly accept me for not being straight. Today marks the day where I turn 18 in less than a month and will be forced to live on my own. I have around $500 to my name and I know things will be overwhelmingly difficult. But knowing that you and I have shared somewhat similar pain and burdens. It strengthens me and fuels me more to do great things. You are truly brave Bethany for speaking out. I hope you stay safe and are able to take care of yourself. There are organizations for apostates in need like yourself and id suggest you look into them if possible. I was around 10 years old when I watched VenturianTale, I loved the videos you guys made! it brought me so much joy.. I stopped watching once I was 15. The joyful one memory I have from the videos are ''Im a bird, and I'm walking awayy'' because that one video brought me a lot of joy. My heart shatters to know all of this happened.. I hope you are healthier and happier, from what I see it's safe to assume you are because you got married!! thank you for bringing my childhood to joy. Venturiantale was an important part of my childhood,the fnaf videos were my favorites,i was a bit upset when the channel stopped uploading but now i understand everything,i feel so bad for Bethany,I can’t imagine having to go through that,she is so strong and brave for breaking away from her controlling family,i hope she’s doing well.

@@rxleurn I think you can, even if it's not "legally" recognized. Chosen families can form because of any person’s experience with their biological or legal family that leaves needs unmet. Your friends might become your family of choice because they provide you with a healthier family environment and/or a network of support than the one you were raised in. I personally consider my closest friends and their families as part of my own family. At the end of the day whether you call them your family or not, surround yourself with people that will support and love you

I’m sorry you had to think a family like that was strong and well bonded, but when something is that stuck to a pattern, it’s not strong. It’s… well it’s essentially cowardly. I think the prey in society are more brave then the predator. The predator may go out hunting on prey, which some COULD call brave, but I see it as fearing something that could drag them down, and eliminating it. Stuck things are cowardly, they are too afraid to let go and bend even a bit for the people around them, no matter how much they care and that’s horrible.
I know this comment will probably get lost in the flood somewhere, but I just discovered this video after deciding on a whim to see what you guys were up to these days. It truly saddens me to hear about everything that has happened to you and Cierra after I had been watching VenturianTale for a large portion of my childhood. As someone who was also raised in a Christian household, I can confirm that the "Christian" teachings of your family were horribly incorrect and It was not right for any of them to treat you that way. I don't consider myself Christian anymore so I'm not going to say any more on the matter of Christianity. I remember laughing uncontrollably at some of your guys' videos back then. I loved and respected you guys and I still do to this day. I hope Isaac and Jordan realize that their actions were wrong, and that you guys can someday all get along again. Even if that doesn't happen, I'll still gladly support both you and Cierra. I hope everything is still going well for you and that you can continue to live the way that you want; free from any chains holding you down!
I've been a fan of VenturianTale since the year 2015. I didn't know that this was happening. I'm so sorry that all that has happened to you guys. Every time I felt sad or depressed, I always watched videos from VenturianTale. I've had depression since I was 8 years old due the same things. I've been verbally, mentally, and physically abused from my cousins since I was 4-9 years old. We moved away from them when I was 9 and a half years old in 2013. Sorry for making this about me. I'm glad that you got to speak up. Abuse is never a good thing. I hope that you guys are having a wonderful and blessed day or night. God bless
