Good morning Betsy. I suffer from a bulged disc (L4 L5) and have been in pain now for the past 4 years. I have tried physical therapy, received a Platelet Rich Plasma shot and both have not worked. You were highly recommended to me and would love to schedule an appointment with you to get some guidance on what to do next. I called your office a couple weeks ago to set up an appointment with you and they told me you weren’t accepting new patients. Is there any chance you could make room for one more?

I'm currently active duty. I am about to a surgery on my herniated disc (l4/l5). Can I go back to my full duties after I recover? What would be my limitations after recovery?

I had the same surgery. My disk reherniated. If your duties require you to lift heavy, frequently bend below the waist or squat, I would suggest you try to adjust your day to day. After my surgery I went back to work. I worked at a warehouse and it required a lot of physical labor. I was constantly squatting and lifting, and I was pulling pallets with a hand jack. These pallets would sometimes weigh over 300lbs. I fucked up thinking it would be fine. I even had a therapist pull up at my job and couch me on how to adapt with the surgery and working. Even with proper form I thought it was all ok. It wasn't. If your regular duties require minor bending and your just standing or walking you'll be fine for the most part.. just remember to stretch and work in your lower back. Lift light and try to avoid bending over and squatting frequently. Not good for the disk. If it's unavoidable you might have to quit what you're doing. I had another surgery and believe me, you don't wanna come down this road. One more herniation and I'm getting a fusion. I'm mortified and do not want that to ever happen to me.

@@hector60938 I am 80 days after micro surgery L5-S1. I feel uncomfortable of sitting and standing. Though no shooting pain, I don't dare to sit and stand for more than 20 mins. The reherniation risk gives me a lot of mental pressure. I could not focus on my job.
