One of my favorites is Gimme a Break. Sadly it always gets overlooked. The show may not have always had the best jokes but it had more heart than most sitcoms.
I love that show still. The jokes are still relevant today!!!
One of my favs too
absolutely.
Great show. She was a talent...
It's been over 30 years since The Golden Girls ended and that final scene is still hard to watch without tearing up.
I am the same way. Same with Cheers when Sam says, "Sorry, we're closed." Always gets to me. I think no matter how many times you watch a series, every time you get to the end it will always hit you hard. I have most of these series on dvd or blu ray so can watch them often. But every time it ends (even though I can restart it) it still gets me. Just shows how great the actors are and how great the writing is, that these characters seem real to you and a part of your life. :) Golden Girls was always a bit underrated and I hated how young people would say its' not funny just b/c the characters are older or men might say it's a show for women. But if a show is good (like GG and Designing women) it didn't matter who the main characters were or how old they are. Funny is funny, and great, well-written characters with great chemistry between the actors are timeless and should be watched by everyone.
I was both surprised and disappointed that there was no mention of "Night Court".
Very valid, a great show.
yeah, I loved Night Court and it was ALWAYS getting ignored.
@@SpamEggSausage it was for a long time. But it has popped back up into nostalgia channel rotations in the past several years. Currently runs on Catchy.
Agreed. And Mamas family
You need to make a part 2! 🎉
Even the theme songs to the shows were iconic. The Jefferson’s, The Golden Girls, Cheers and Three’s Company all had songs that I can sing decades later.
Golden Girls was a revolutionary show for its time since it was about senior citizen women, The Bob Newhart Show had a running bit where Bob would wake up in the middle of the night and tell his wife about his weird dreams, so it was doubly awesome that they used that to end Newhart.
Newhart tried two more shows but they both failed. George and Leo, and Bob.
I really liked the first season of Bob, but they retooled it too much in season 2, and it wasn't as good.
Newhart was a great show. Loved the finale
It was an awesome ending!
I enjoyed the Bob Newhart show.
I still watch reruns of The Golden Girls ❤❤❤
me too! every night almost.
Hands down, The Jefferson's was the best show...I remember being in tears from laughing so hard. Such a great time.🤣🤣🤣😂😂😁
My favorite was when George wanted Florence to be like a proper maid, and cater to all his wants. She did that and drove George insane. It was hilarious. By far the funniest show I ever saw.
Married with children & Cosby show: Jefferson
Oh yeah the Cosby show was amazing too!@@LoydKline-uw4no
And don't forget Roxie Roker and Franklin Cover as a mixed race couple, back when when that was a huge risk for a show to take.
The Jefferson were half late 1970s & early 1980s tv show: 📺 married with children was a can't miss 1980s tv show;; Cosby was a super great tv show 1980s etc etc
No mention of Cosby Show? It was basically the king of the mid80s when it came to ratings.
Wow there really needs to be a part 2 to this to include Married with Children, Mamas Family, Designing Women, Miami Vice, Night Court, Family ties, Bosom Buddies, Dallas, Dynasty, etc etc
It's about sitcoms. You name 6 sitcoms while naming 9 shows.
How could they not mentioned those shows as well as the Cosby show
All of the Norman Lear shows are timeless classics!
Every single one of these shows are great. My favorite of these was WKRP. The 70's through the 80's were the golden age of the sitcom. So many great characters and especially theme songs.
Less than 10 years after it ended WKRP was back with a new version The new WKRP. Most of the old cast reappears but new people were involved. Andy Travis and Bailey Quarters were the only two of the original cast that did not appear. With that said for showing lasted two seasons. 1991-92, 92-93. It was syndicated.
@@alanvallazza9781 Thanks for the info but I know. I watched it when it aired lmao. *sigh* Christ I'm old
AGREE.......I LOVE WKRP...I WANT TO WORK AT RADIO WITH THEM..
Some of the songs Johnny played on the station, actually help boost the careers of many singers/solo singers.
when John Ritter passed away I LITERALLY bawled like a baby I took it EXTREMELY hard! To me losing was just like losing a favorite family member. I love John so much he was cute very sweet and hilarious. Actors are nowhere near his abilities
John Ritter made everyone laugh. He was gone way too soon.
I love the first season of 8 simple rules too
The Newhart show was the only time " it was all a dream" actually worked as creative and funny!
I agree. The way Bob described the series made perfect sense. It was so absurd, it had to be a dream.
A big 80s sitcom you missed was Married...with Children.
Your channel is sooo....rad! Gnarly! Awesome! You are tripindicular!
I was recommended this channel a few hours ago. I’m so glad because I’ve been binge watching for hours 😊. I was born in 82 but my siblings were teenagers when I was born so I was heavily influenced by the 80s.
Thanks for all your hard work. Your content is great ❤
Very grateful you stopped by. Thank you for being a rockstar 🤘
Loved WKRP!!! The Golden Girls!!!
I cannot believe you did not mention the sitcom family shows that dealt with realistic story lines that were very popular in the 1980s as well. The Cosby Show, Family Ties, two seasons of Valerie, and Growing Pains. I loved all these family shows sitcoms because they showed us realism. I love realism in sitcoms and The Golden Girls had this on their show as well. I all the sitcoms I have mention and one more Designing Women. They all kept it real.
I AGREE......I WISH I LIVED WITH THE GOLDEN GIRLS....
I loved Designing Women! ❤
@jasongibson I watched this list kind of late and it spent too much time on each series. My favorite sitcoms were Full House and the Cosby Show. Different Strokes was great until they started changing all of the characters.
Cosby show should have been included. The show basically held the number 1 Nielsen's rating spot for 5 years straight which is a record i think?
I think this channel needs to have another top ten devoted to the great family sitcoms of the eighties starting with the Cosby show I loved watching it back in the day
Threes Company is one of those rare US adaptations that worked well.
You started this off the right way… Three’s Company 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 An absolute Iconic Show !
I really got a kick out of seeing all those sitcoms, and there are still some out there we didn’t even cover! Thanks so much for the laughs
The golden girls and the Jefferson oh my goodness forever my favorite TV sitcoms I watch repeats of these shows and laughing like it’s my first time seeing them hilarious best TV shows in history I ❤ 80’s tv sitcomss.
I loved 😍 ♥ some of these shows when I was little watching 👀 with my parents. I especially loved ❤ Threes a Company, The Jeffersons 👏 👏👏and their theme song, Cheers 🍻 👏 and there theme song 🎵 👏, The Facts of Life with all the girls 👧. The Golden Girls 👧 with the four old ladies just loved 😍 ❤ that one and the Golden girl Song 🎵 ❤ thanks 😇 for being a friend. They were all great my absoulate favorite Blanche and Sofia. Designing women, Night Court, The Love ❤ Boat were great too but not mentioned?? I found Roseane later on (it was ok) I really liked (Darlene and DJ the children)and Jackie Roseane sister. (WKRP)it was ok and it had a great theme song at the beginning🎵 🎶 too. Newhart was ok. Thank you for bringing back the excellent memories take care.
Love this nostalgia stuff. Never saw an episode (In college, no TV), but I believe all the women in The Golden Girls were supposed to be in their 50's. I'm now 56, nothing like what your 50's are like in the 80's. And I also believe the woman who played the oldest grandma character was the youngest of the four. Anyway...fun stuff.
Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche, was the youngest of the Golden Girls.
Cheers #1 of the 80s sitcom imho.
Agreed!!!
That scene with John Ritter as Jack at a cocktail party is hilarious Its has to be seen to believe 😊
It’s one of my top 3 episodes. From start to finish it’s perfection
A few things regarding WKRP... Les Nessman was not just the weather reporter, he was the news reporter. Bailey and Johnny had an on again, off again relationship in the later seasons. And, the closing credits were intentionally recorded so you couldn't understand them!
Fun fact the late Howard Hesseman was a real life radio station DJ
I loved the golden girls❤ I still watch the reruns
I love all these great shows! At the top of the list is my all time favorite Golden Girls!!! Watching this video put a big smile on my face but now I'm so emotional.☺️👍🏾❤️
Right before Golden Girls began Rue McClanahan was on Mama's Family, Bea Arthur had done Maude, Betty White also appeared briefly on Mama's Family and was also on Mary Tyler Moore Show, Estelle Getty was doing small parts on different shows including Newhart In an episode.
@@alanvallazza9781 Yeah, I know I remember. Mama's Family went on hiatus for about two years and when they came back for a third season Betty and Rue were already on Golden Girls. Betty did several episodes of Mama's Family before the show first ended but she did one last episode in the third season but Rue did not because they killed her character off Aunt Fran at the beginning of the third season. Also Betty and Rue switched roles on The Golden Girls.
You need to do a part 2 of 80s sitcoms- this is just the tip of the iceberg, and you know it 😉
Facts, I was waiting for Who's The Boss! 😂
Head of the Class and Wings were two of my favorites. Although Wings may be 90s.
the golden girls are so amazing
You are spitting factos!
Richard Sanders looked in his 60's when WKRP in Cincinnati and even though he wasn't that old it's crazy to think that he's still alive. As for the Golden Girls Betty White was actually the oldest and lived the longest. The Golden Girls still holds up today. Same goes for Three's Company. Seen Marla Gibbs in an episode of Young Sheldon and it was nice to see her, brings back so much nostalgia from The Jeffersons to 227. As for the Cheers theme song always made me sad and would try and miss the opening.
WKRP still produced one of the greatest TV episodes ever & one of the best casts ever.
Great Video ! Thanks !
Alot of these were big at the end of the 70's and more of a reflection of life then. The 80's was Married With Children, Cheers, Family Ties, Different Strokes, Growing Pains, Dallas
Watched all those shows when they were new. Good video , dude
Absolutely loved Cheers
Three's Company!! 😍
I still watch the reruns!! Just love John Ritter!!
It was very much a 70s sitcom, though.
Always felt more 70s to me
@@visualonestudio it was based in the 70's, ya know, like That 70's Show....
Thanks these were all great shows. 👍🏼❤
While you touched on certain storylines on sitcoms, I'm surprised you didn't mention the Turkey promotion storyline on WKRP
Loved the 80's.
I love that you showed a scene of Three's Company with Cindy. She was such a great physical comedian with John Ritter as this clip shows. I wish she had stayed on the show longer.
Loved "the Jeffersons ".
ALICE, GOOD-TIMES, ONE DAY AT A TIME, CHICO AND THE MAN! Great shows. I miss the 80's so much
These shows were definitely the best of my childhood days
Night Court
The Cosby show
Growing Pains
Family Ties
Benson
Alice
Those should've been added 2 the list but I understand if that's all u could think of. I ain't mad at cha
Liked and subscribed 🙂
These were all the shows I watched in syndication.
Amazing list.
The 80’s and 90’s had the best sitcoms
The 60's and the 70's had the best sitcoms.
You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have The Facts of Life!
It takes a lifetime to get them right.
Now from I had read many a year ago!!!. Roseanne had seen the British show Ab Fab and wanted to make a U.S. version, with her playing the character of Eddie and Jackie playing the Patsy character. But all the networks turned her down, so she just turned the last season of her show into Ab Fab. And If I also remember, Both Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley made a cameo appearance on Roseanne as their Ab Fab characters.
I appreciate the flashbacks to my childhood. This is my first time watching you.
When I was younger I loved the TV show 8 Simple Rules and my favorite character was the father (John Ritter), my mom grow up in th 80s and loved Three's Company so she recommended the show to me. I loved the show so much it would be the only thing I would watch for a good year, my mom got so tired of it she recommended the golden girls and married with children so there would be something else on (she got sick of those shows as well because of me)
You should definitely do one on The Cosby Show, Diff’rent Strokes, Family Ties, Growing Pains, Who’s The Boss & Silver Spoons
Nobody wants to talk about The Cosby show anymore. But it's such a great show.
The Cosby Show is creepy. You know what Bill was doing to the oldest daughter of the show? Sick
those all suck tho - these were top notch shows - Diff’rent Strokes was OK but not great
Mama's Family is one of my Fav's from the 80's
Your channel is a gem! Thank you for making such incredible and fun content! I think your channel will get the attention it deserves soon (come on RUclips algorithm).
When you think about it, Three's Company IS an 80s show. It just happened to start in the 70s. That said, the Chrissy seasons were It for me, I remember them most from the reruns and I had a special fondness for Suzanne Somers because of Step by Step.
I watched The Golden Girls in full starting in 2021 and I kinda regret not getting into it sooner because it's as good as they say it is.
Roseanne still holds a special place in my heart even with all the controversy surrounding the lead actress. John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, and the rest are amazing.
She was also in another little known show called. She's the Sheriff.
A lot of great 80's Sitcoms.

Love all these shows and still watching them all
Wings was a show as well.
My Two Dads had Greg Evigan as one of the Dads. Silver Spoons, Family Ties, Differnt Strokes, Who's the Boss.
So this is where the wiggle dance Ally asks George on Ally McBeal, came from? The only 80s sitcom I watched were Golden Girls, Who’s the Boss and Married with Children. Didn’t like Roseanne, and never heard of the rest.
Gordon Jump, the original maytag man ! And Jan Smithers 🤩😍😍. There was some other blonde lady, she was always in the way of Jan 🤣
Just subscribed because you are talking my language!💪
As a hobby, knowing I can never legally make any money off of it, I write screenplays for books. Maybe writing a series finale for The Jeffersons might be fun.
It was so bizarre when Roseanne was cancelled in its reboot for saying controversial and shocking things. Did no one remember what she was like 30 years before?
IT also unfortunately had the Streisand effect. Meaning, people looked up Valerie Jarrett and found many an unflattering pictures. And people who were "outraged" are too dumb to know she is not very black. She is from the Middle East and half white. They should've brushed over the thing
She was rude and crude.
all awesome shows.
Great video! Just wanted to say Newhart is now on Amazon Prime.
i missed 80s life movies, sitcom & everything , life was soo much better before internet & social media & i was a kid & teenager in 80s & miss those middle class shows & middle to older aged actors & cast ..is soo trash & f***ked up these days..ahh good ole days, yaa..those ones all was the GREAT shows & was a masterpiece would never forget & NEVER will be another , probably we watch the re-runs till we die!
I loved watching Cheers on a Friday night and such a great theme tune. Rosanna's first run was very good until some parts of the last series.
Had a huge crush on Jan Smithers (Bailey Quarters)
Her and Stevie Knicks and Pam Dawber were my teenage dream team 😍
@@paulday6875 Stevie is still one of my best picks..........
Jan Smithers is the ex-wife of James Brolin, whose now married to Barbra Streisand.
I would have mentioned The Facts of Life, Different Strokes, Punky Brewster, Growing Pains, and The Cosby Show… some of the ones you mentioned I haven’t even heard of.
Horace and Mike were the best characters on "Three's Company".
Shows that begin in the 70s are properly classified as 70s sitcoms.
I think the majority of the shows run or its best seasons are what decade it was in. Happy Days is a 70s sitcom, even though it ran until 1984
I was watching threes company today. My favorite show ever. Since I was 4
Just caught this video and happy to say that Newhart is streaming on Amazon Prime Video now.
I read somewhere that the end theme on “WKRP In Cincinatti” was actually just a bunch of nonsense words and sounds and it was put together that way on purpose since they would not need to pay any royalties to use it.
I've always heard the same story. I remember as a kid trying to figure out that mumbling 🤣. It's amazing to see how much the skyline of Cincinnati has changed. Miss Riverbend.
that would make sense. I had not one clue what they were singing and I like Bob Dylan!
The story I heard was the songwriter had written the music but didn't have the lyrics yet. He was asked to do a demo of the song and just made up jibberish. The powers that be thought that version worked and hence the closing music was born.
Loved him in Becker.
Becker was very unlikeable.
George in Newhart was also in the Bob Newhart Show a couple times playing an old friend of Bobs with the nickname The Peeper. They should have mentioned that. Would have made it more relatable and funny. Tom was hilarious on the Bob Newhart show too.
Sad story the Jeffersons didn't get a series finale. Damn shame dog😔😒
Oh well…they did get Lenny Kravitz indirectly
Most sitcoms didn't in those days. They just sort of ended.
We lived in Vermont during the show. A friend and I were driving to Montpelier and we saw three guys in a pickup truck. We both exclaimed, 'Larry, Darrell and Darrell!' Teams play softball in the snow with the bases shoveled out and softballs are bright orange!
The Golden Girls was and still is a great show pity the spin off didn’t catch on too well. I am surprised that Newhart is not on at least DVD that was a great show all the other shows you mentioned are on streaming channels like Hulu or paramount plus. Come to think the only reason I keep Hulu is so I can watch the Golden Girls any time I want
Actually Newhart is on DVD but I don't know if any seasons but the 1st that is as I recently borrowed Season 1 DVD of Newhart from my Library!
Newhart is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Great shows
The entire "Newhart" is available on DVD. I own it 😃
Three's company is more of a 70's show
Lasted into the '80s...
From watching Bea Arthur's real emotions in her final speech on "The Golden Girls," to (and I was not a fan of "Newhart") one of the BEST ever final scenes of any show (I was a HUGE fan of "The Bob Newhart Show") to what I thought was a weak ending to an absolute POWERHOUSE of a comedy ("We're closed" uttered from inside Cheers by Sam to a unknown pair of legs on the steps leading down to the bar - though Norm's speech about Sam really being there for his one TRUE love - the bar), the 1980s (I was born in 1971) I still will debate that it was the decade that had not only the best music EVER but the best TV shows ever!
Newhart's finale was just iconic.
And I agree with others, The Cosby Show really should have been on this list.
WKRP is remembered as being very funny, but in actuality it wasn't that much. It was a great show with good characters and it touched on some important topics, but the actual comedy was scarcer than most sitcoms.
I hear you on WKRP. It had great fully formed characters right out of the box, whereas most shows need a few seasons to define and establish theirs. It was a well constructed workplace ensemble sitcom, perfectly acted, but the humor hasn't traveled all that well. I might be the wrong one to listen to, though, since there are only about 9 or 10 sitcoms from 1970-2000 that I think still hold up as funny. Some are interesting. Good time capsules, but not much else.
I watch new heart and loved when they ended with Suzanne pleshette and it was just a big dream comedy genius, thank you, writers
I loved wkrp so much when i was a kid. Johnny Fever was my favorite, i knew he was so cool even as a small town, Minnesota know nothing.
"Roseanne" to me is such a 90's show,I don't think it should belong on the list, although it did technically start in the 80's,it would be like calling "Seinfeld" an 80's show.
Agreed, coming out in late 1988 and lasting until the late 90s would not make it much of an 80s sitcom. Shouldn’t be on the list.
SEinfeld Chronicles
WTF. Where is Who's the Boss!!!
Taxi was another good sitcom.
Danny DeVito was hysterical on Taxi.
George Jefferson's mother was hilarious.
She was mean and ornery.
Really no Cosby Show???? Whatever that has happened now does not take away the fact that it was #1 in the late eighties .
Tru. Tru.
WKRP was robbed, there should have been a lot more than 4 seasons 💜
I love shows thst started in one decade and went into the next of the 1900s. Each decade was so defined by clotgez and sets its fun. Like Jeffersons, very 70s show but in it final seasons, the sets and clothes got very 80s....especially the girls
The finale of Roseanne made my jaw drop and made me teary eyed
They corrected it. Roseanne was rebooted. The Connors gave us closer.
Where's Mama? "Its your dime, spill it"
Mama's Family was hilarious 😂.
Every thanksgiving my family finds the RUclips clip of the turkey scene from WKRP in Cincinnati and watches it.
There were a couple of shows that started in the '70s and continued on into the '80s like M*A*S*H, Happy Days, The Jeffersons, Three's Company, Taxi, Mork and Mindy, Charlie's Angels, CHIPs, Dallas and so on.
That's how it is sometimes. A few 90s hit shows started in the 80s
