- This is my entry into the Great Guitar Build Off 2020 Unofficial challenge.
In this episode I am doing a small demo (warning, I really cant play and filming yourself in a shed makes playing even harder!)
This is a challenge being put on by Ben Crowe at Crimson Guitars in parallel to the official Great Guitar Build off.
Visit www.greatguitarbuildoff.com to find out more about the challenge and also to vote and donate to the official entries!

Great guitar. Great sound. Great news that there will be many more guitar builds! Oh and great T-shirt!
Thank you! Glad you like the t-shirt lol
Your commentary during the build process was perhaps the best I have seen and I must have watched hundreds over the years! So well described and explained better than some well known luthiers and to the point. Not to mention that the result is stunning. Love it and you have another scriber. Look forward to more.....
Wow! Thank you Derek. Very kind of you to say that. I am also glad you like the guitar. Glad to have you following along!
Not too shabby at all John, well done mate!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎
Thanks Alan!
Very pretty guitar John! I also very much like your video presentation style. Certainly will be sticking around for future builds and work 👏👍
Thank you Tony. I am glad you like it and great to hear you will stick around, thanks for watching!
way to go John, nicely done ,impressive for sure
Thank you Paul!!
Very well done! Never thought about copper and black as a combination, but it's excellent! It's amazing the solid efforts put forth by so many talented people like yourself. And then the fitting victory by Violet the Cow. Outstanding
Thanks! I was so honoured just to be included. Violet was the best for sure. A worthy winner
Great guitar John, the copper and black look really good! I have enjoyed your video series and will be watching out for more videos in the future. All the best for the competition, cheers Dave
Thanks Dave! I’ve enjoyed watching you too. I love your video style and I love your guitar. Best of luck to you too!
Two things stand out from this video
1. You can build a very good guitar
2.You can play a lot better than me
Looking forward to seeing you branch out a little in the overall design of your guitars and as you enjoy it so much I guess thats only a matter of time
Come a long way from the building of the shed John
Thank you buddy!! Yes I have been focusing on the basic principles but i do have some ideas in mind.
Nice job, good video series, I enjoyed the build. Thanks
Thank you!
Looking good.
Sounding good.
Good luck.
Thank you!!
The black and copper is a perfect combination . The guitar is simply beautiful and you are a winner for us👍🏻
Thank you Edith! Very kind of you to say
Black & brass is also a gorgeous combo.
@@tonysansom im thinking black and bronze next time! Not tried brass, something to look at!
@@JohnClothier Try it John. My preference for brass over copper or bronze is because you can get such a high shine on it. That's why it looks so good with black.
I’ll give it a shot. Thank you
Fantastic Job! Love the guitar and you did great with the demo! Good luck with the GGBO and I will be watching what you are doing next 👍
Thank you! That really is kind of you to say about my demo. Must have been quite painful to watch being that you are someone that can actually play! Thanks. I will certainly be watching your channel too. Love your build!
Beutiful, professional build...really nice and well filmed.
Thank you so much!
You might get in the top 25! I have watched about 100 or so of the contest entries and your guitar has a much a chance as anyones!
That is very nice of you to say although I would still be very very surprised if that happened!
@@JohnClothier Stay positive, its amazing how many great guitar makers there are. But its not up to one person who wins its votes!
That is very true. I’m just happy to be involved. Anything more is a bonus
Hi John, The guitar sounds fantastic and looks amazing. Well done you Sir. You get my vote just for the Pink Floyd alone. I saw them in 1974, when I was 16, in Cardiff on their Dark Side of The Moon Tour. The ticket cost me £1.50 which was weeks wages from my part time job stacking shelves at a local mini supermarket. Great series John . How about a Flying V Guitar for the net one? Take care John. Cheers, Huw
Thank you Huw! They are one of my most favourite bands for sure. I have never seen them live. I bet that was amazing!
Really nice. It's been great to take the journey with you.
Thanks Alan I am glad you have enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
I'm not dissing your playing, but it would be great to hear a really good guitarist putting this machine through its paces. Ripping it to the extreme.
I totally agree and I am hoping I will be able to do that in a week or so.
Sounds like a les paul. Well done, man.
Thank you so much!
sounds great mate.
Thanks. Imagine what it would sound like if someone that could play guitar gave it a shot
@@JohnClothier lol, well that wont be me then lol
Sounds good to me & looks great. And you can certainly play better than I do. I've hardly touched a guitar since 1962 when started learning and promptly gave up.
Thank you Miss Tee. I’ve picked it up and put it down for the last 30 years and never managed much. I love the sound of guitars and one day I would love to be able to bang a couple of tunes out
@@JohnClothier well, you now have 3 guitars to practice on 😁
Lol actually I have 5 but 2 are shop bought
@@JohnClothier in that case you have no excuse not to be the next Eric Clapton 😂🤣😂🤣
Lol I’d rather be David Gilmour lol
Hey John, bit late to the party. That turned out nice! Link to the backing track? Subbed.
Thanks! It’s a pink floyd backing track on RUclips in the key of Bm.
you're better than me....but I'm mainly a drummer....
Drumming is hard! Tried it once. I just don’t have the time keeping.
cant find where to vote for you :-(
You can yet. It will be on Instagram on the great guitar build off channel. But only if I’m picked for the top 25
@@JohnClothier you meant cant i guess mate. Oh i see fingers crossed for you buddy
Yeah sorry
