brb, going to go record a Vanessa Carlton-themed disco piano album now...
Thank you for having me & for all the fun requests!
Wow mate! Well done!
Good stuff, Mr. B! 😉😄 👍💖🎶
Thank you! It was great watching great pianist work on famous tunes in different genres 🎉
I was going to say! I hope you do a full version of that one! 😁
That is a pretty great idea for a PMJ cover, eh??? Hint, hint, hint....
Not sure I agree with his classifications, but Scott is insanely talented. His ability to improvise on the fly is truly awe inspiring.
It was a joy seeing Scott Bradlee again.😊
The piano is a little limiting in expressing these different genres, I feel like. It would be fun to see an entire band doing this and develop the idea to its full potential; Bandeo, anyone?
You just described Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox
@@SitoPonclose, but not quite. PMJ is not improvised, and the performers aren't brought out of their comfort zone; I'd rather say I described a jam session instead, if we wanted to give it a definition.
@@BeastOfSoda oh I see what you mean. Yeah, that would be awesome
Scott showed me my place again.
This man is an absolute genius! Amazing. Had me smiling the whole way through!
Please do that with Jordan Rudess🙏🙏🙏
It's gonna be legendary
When I grow up I want to be an improv pianist👌💯
Scott AMAZING job. Love so talented musicians.
Can we please have him teach how he approaches his left hand strides?
I've got my right hand chords and left hand octive bass notes down cold. I can easily play inverted chords. Yet, it still sounds boring. Could you do another episode on what we could be doing to jazz things up a bit? Thanks🎉
this man is so freaking Good he's a piano God
That's the guy you want at a party.
🎹🎶👍
I enjoy everyone of Scott's interpretations on PMJ, too!
Amazing
Scott always gives me pianist envy when I watch him play.
I did not want A thousand miles and I will always love you to end!
That left hand is like a serpent's strike, fast and accurately hitting chords; but without any unnecessary motion.
To respond to all the comments about the genres not coming across, I agree, and I think trying to include the lead melody made all these versions inherently fall into mall hallway or bistro dinner renditions, where he’s trying to fold the bass harmony, midrange chords, and lead melody all into one two-handed part, a true rock n roll version of that song would just be a piano part and leave space for the other instruments. If he had come in with a cool ‘50s style broken dominant 7 chords thing for Billie jeans rock n roll style, and then sang OVER that using a Rolling Stones mcjagger style vocal delivery, we woulda all been like “oh damn, now that’s rock n roll,” but by trying to squeeze that all together, our modern ears lost the rock thread and just heard a mono-genre bluesy-jazzy approach that ties all those elements together. The thing that all those genres have in common when it comes to iconic keys parts and stylistic identifiers is SPACE for the other instruments! I’d love to see a full band version of this where all of “postmodern jukebox” is there coming up with throwback versions as a group on the spot, and we can see their whole process… now THAT would be supm’
Wow. That is really impressive.
Wow! I wanna see a few of those with his band!
If I could do twenty percent of that.
People commenting about his talent and I’m like: OMG! Scott Bradlee got married!? 🙀😄
AMAZING
This is insane!
Absolutely brilliant! 😅
Wow. Can't comment... more... wow
Gonna need a recording of Piano Man now (the whole song)
Genious 😎
Derek Paravicini would crush this challenge
what a hoot!
MAKE THIS A NEW SHOW TYPE!!!! COVER SONGS IN NEW GENRES CHALLENGE!!!!!!!
Bro is unreal
Well, I **thought** I played piano, but apparently not. :)
PRL needs the new-style song-genre wheel! That would be worth several Jenga blocks
Exceptional treatment of I Will Always Love You. Almost makes up for the abomination that was Whitney Houston's version.
Think I´m selling my piano... it's laughing at me from the corner
Nah. It is beckoning you in and saying: "Play Me".
как же ахуеительно он играет
funny.. 'gangster paradise in Bossa Nova' I'm a instrumental session artist and my job line week was gangster paradise pirate style on Hurdy Gurdy..
turned out quite well actually..
ha.. even funnier.. I watched a few more seconds.. the guy is from port modern Jukebox.. I love their music but get very annoyed by their name..
My initials are PMJ.. so I've always put PMJ as my artist name in my iTunes.. now every time I import one of my own songs i get picture of a post modern jukebox album added..
Obviously a great pianist … Invite Diana Krall or Richie Ray next, let’s see how they handle this challenge.
Anomalie or Brad Mehldau would be insane also.
If you own an acoustic piano and want to be a bit crazy, can you play "any classical piece" in the style of "aphex twin prepared piano?"
To be fair...you could damage the piano if you are not careful. So make sure it is your piano and not a rental lol.
Denise dance tutorial
What "piano" is that?
not sure, but something in direction of the Roland E-Piano GP-9 , I guess
I'd buy that Gangsta's Paradise version for a dollar.
bruh ill just throw away my keyboard
Can I have your stuff?
Seriously: there are gradations to skill levels in music objectively. Yet there are also a ton of subjective and less difficult things in music that sound amazing, and you probably will not learn even at Juliard.
Music is fun. The only reason to not play music is if you lack the time to do so, or you just dont enjoy it anymore. It is very difficult to not enjoy the playing of music once you tiptoe past the beginner level. It is like an addiction.
Your jazz is rag time 😂
No disrespect, but I'm not sure that was bossa nova
AT times, sounded like tango
It’s not an exact science but it was close to it to call it that
Good pianist, but big fail for me. Love the post modern work, but these genre change challenges were all sounding the same.
This video should have been titled “turning pop hits into jazz/blues mall hallway/bistro dinner renditions”. He’s good at that, and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just a bit of false advertising.
While I didn’t hear the “rock n roll,” or “disco,” etc, all of these versions would be very welcome background music as I try on shoes.
Good pianist, but very one dimensional. Did not interpret the styles accurately at all. I am pretty sure that he received the songs ahead of time. Probably just didn’t know what style it would be.
