    Eric, one of your many skills as a teacher is your ability to remember what was hard despite having mastered the technique many years ago. Well done.

    One of your many skills is making your viewer feel that , deep down, they already know what your explaining, they just couldn't put it into words as clearly and succinctly as you. Thank you for sharing.

    A couple weeks ago a local retirement home asked me to play a singalong for the residents there. I'd never played a lot of these songs, show tunes and pre-rock hits and folk songs. Fortunately a lot of experience in knowing my chords and creating a rhythm people can sing with meant I could just pull the changes off the internet and listen to a song a few times and I was off and running. Being a better lead player wouldn't have helped me much! And it turned out to be more fun than I would have thought.

    In response to the Mazzy Star groove, that tip to hit the B and E string open while changing chords took me right back to 2006 when my first guitar teacher was teaching me how to strum. That was the key trick that got me over my first major learning hump. Syncopated strumming is so fundamental yet so difficult to get right as a beginner! If you're just starting out and you need an extra 8th note of time between your chord fingerings, just hit the B and E string open so you dont break groove!

    This was great. Like you said, I don't think Neil Young gets enough credit for the nuance to his playing. It's why so many covers of him just don't sound quite right even though they appear easy.

    • @kfr5018
      @kfr5018 6 месяцев назад

      One the issues with this is because people always say about certain riffs that “this is an easy one to play”. Then the player learns the notes and assume they have it. Nothing is easy if you focus on the nuances. Which is what music is all about. Being in time. Nailing the groove. Making the songs dynamics stand out. Etc.
      For example. “Seven nation army” is one the “easiest” songs to play. Almost every guitarist can play it. But listen how differently each person sounds playing it. Pressing the right “buttons” isn’t enough.
