I think the tipping point for Ryan would be is if he found out what Homelander did to his mom. Ryan would probably tear Homelander's head off with laser eyes.
We all know it’s Inevitable for Ryan to Fight his Father and when you think about it Billy is the Father Ryan Truly Needs, but because he’s attached to his Mother and understands what is like to have so much Potential and shares the Same Pain as William was raised in a Unhealthy Relationship with his Father while Homelander is using Ryan as a Extension of his Legacy and there’s a Difference between Loving and Caring, Homie cares for Ryan but he doesn’t love him like a Parent Should, one way or another Ryan will figure out how he was Created and the Monster Homelander actually is that will Snap Him into Madness.
When that timeskip hits, Ryan gone turn The Boys to THE BOYWONDER

Man this guy cooked, Butcher will ask them to care for Ryan with his dying breath
I think Ryan will overpower Homelander in a heat vision struggle and both will be heavily injured by the explosion of the collision,then an injured Butcher will go to Homelander who is on his knees and he will use the Kessler tentacles to strangle Homelander to death to finish him off(a bit like Davy Jones chocking that guy).
As Homelander will be dying there will be flashes of everyone he has killed and disappointed before we see him drop down dead with his eyes open.
This has been my prediction for a while.
Its vital that we see Ryans true power but also that Butcher actually is the one to finish it.
The writers did btw once state in an interview that can be found in article that "When Ryan is enraged,his heat vision is FAR more powerful than Homelanders"

I don't think Homelander wants Ryan to replace him. I think he wants to take over his body so he can extend his life.

More than once he's told Ryan that he wants them to merge and become one. He probably has scientists working on that. He even wanted to harvest Queen Maeve's eggs when he had her locked away in season 3.
homelander probably expects to act like ryan's puppetmaster once he's too old to do hero stuff. tell him what to do, how to do things, where to do things, when, etc.
Yeah, I think Ryan will turn out good. It's really hard to convincingly write a character like that to turn bad. It's as you said, he was raised in a loving (albeit sheltered) home enviroment, something Homelander didn't get growing up which is why he can't quite get his perspective through to Ryan. I think the show wants to reinforce that message

It's a shame Ryan's writing is so inconsistent. He goes from empathetic behavior to sociopathic tendencies like a see-saw. It's like they're trying to write his internal struggle but believe people won't get it if it's subtle so they bludgeon them over the head with it.

8:19 theyre not gonna do a time jump and recast Ryan. And the eye beams arent more poqerful, Ryan just wasnt able to control them. Homelander holds back A LOT.
